removing the sun

Well, i am a big fan of vampires... more than i should let you all know... but i want to ask, if you team up with the vampires is the sun REALLY removed from the day? I mean yes the vampires do hate the sun.... but the sun is the thing keeping their meal alive, blood... So can anybody tell me, if you team up with the vampires is the sun removeed from the game? — Unsigned comment by 72.182.42.124 (talk) at 08:54 on June 11, 2012

Nobody knows at this point, and nobody will know until Dawnguard is played through. Once it is, that information will be added to the appropriate quest pages. Vely►Talk►Email 15:47, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Nobody even knows yet. --JIGSAW 4 17:31, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Well here is a little spoiler...if it is true of course, so don't read if you don't want to know (again i am not sure if it is true, just read it from someone who had the privilege of playing some of it) that even if you choose the vampires you still have to kill harken because he plans on sacrificing his daughter, serena. Her mother supposedly tells you something and promises to give you the elder scroll if you deal with him. so either way, the sun still shines. 217.137.157.197 23:26, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
How would you know? Do you work for bethesda?--Cole1 23:31, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Read it from someone who played it early, bethesda apparently gave a few people a limited time to play it and one person typed about it, again I only said "IF IT"s true and even then, one must have to believe the person played it. I will reserve my opinions on it when I myself actually play it. 217.137.157.197 23:36, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
I have played Dawnguard and you can take out the sun, for a certain amount of time. — Unsigned comment by 75.54.86.104 (talk) at 19:20 on 29 June 2012
small spoiler their is a way if you become a vampire when you get Auriel's Bow get some elven arrows tell serana to coat it with her blood then go outside and shoot at the sun (only lasts 1 (one) Day. — Unsigned comment by 24.94.225.201 (talk) at 02:21 on 10 July 2012
Don't have to be a vampire, or even play for that team. --DaedalusMachina 11:01, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

eye color change

After i downloaded Dawnguard this morning i noticed that my vampire character eyes were glowing like Lord Harkons, i then went over to the dawnstar sanctuary to see if the DLC affected Babette but it appearit didnt,so it looks like it effects only the player character and new vampires not preexisting one, 174.253.225.3 01:42, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

That's probably because Harkon (and his family, followers, etc) are a different species of vampire. There's a book about it in Skyrim, cannot remember the name, but it talks of his breed hiding under the ice and being more powerful. — Unsigned comment by 68.12.183.44 (talk) at 19:09 on 3 July 2012
I think it has more to do with Babette being a child. Even disease player vampires get the eye change. --DaedalusMachina 10:58, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Immortal Blood 174.254.1.33 04:53, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

All vampires are the same species in skyrim, Harkon and his family are just pure-blood and the first of their clan bloodline. All vampires in skyrim get the same upgrade of glowing eyes and in the case of npcs, bat-like faces but there seems to be a bug for some races such as the nords, high elves and beast races because they don't get the new faces. High elves and nords just get glowing versions of the old eyes. Mr.Scryer.

How is it that the vampire women from the Morthal quest (the one who's mission it is to turn all the guards in Solitude) eyes are normal yet Sybille (from Solitude, vampire court mage) eyes are yellow? Love the new look and way vampires work in Dawnguard. --SamGhadiali 08:27, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

New Achievements

Are there any new achievements for Dawnguard? If so, does it include completing each faction or can they be gained by being just a Vampire? Also, although I know its an opinion, which faction is better? (Saddy69 10:26, 2 July 2012 (UTC))

You can get all of the Achievements no matter which side you join. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 10:27, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I just actually looked in the section called 'Achievements' and found the answer! My bad! So no particular benefit to being one faction or the other then, just preference. (Saddy69 10:32, 2 July 2012 (UTC))
That's correct, also for the achievement for changing your face you don't actually have to change your appearance, just talk to the girl and you get it straight away. RIM 10:44, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Sweet. Thanks. I'll start tonight and see how I get on! (Saddy69 11:00, 2 July 2012 (UTC))
Actually RIM, that's not true, at least if you're a Vampire. • JATalk 23:40, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes but that's because she doesn't talk to you if you're a vampire. RIM 13:42, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Can Aela give you lycanthropy again if you marry her?

I'm trying to get every achievement and the one I can't get requires you to be a werewolf for the skills, however I cured myself and now talking to Aela I see no option to get it again. Is there some other quest that needs to be completed first? I am married to her — Unsigned comment by 99.251.189.111 (talk) at 06:51 on 3 July 2012

I'm pretty sure the companions only give you lycanthropy once, however, I think that in the dawnguard questline there is a character who can make you a werewolf. I haven't played that side yet so I'm not sure though. RIM 13:45, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Actually, she has been given some new dialogue which implies this is possible. I haven't been able to verify in gameplay or find the related quest in CSlist yet, but I wouldn't assume it's impossible just yet. ABCface 16:00, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Well I've read in a couple different places, in fact it even says it on many of the pages here (Aela's for one) that she does indeed give it to you again as part of the DLC. But seeing as I am married to her my conversation options are that of a spouse (make me food, buy from the store, etc.) so I think this may be a problem for me. Was just wondering if anyone who is cured and married to her has been able to regain Lycanthropy. — Unsigned comment by 99.251.189.111 (talk) at 06:19 on 4 July 2012

You don't need to marry her, you just ask her to become a werewolf again and she says something like "hircine not liking fickle people but you have proved your worth before" and then she turns you back into a werewolf, I tested it myself by getting my lycanthropy cured and then talking to her. Mr.Scryer.

Further issue found with Dawnguard uninstall/reinstall Breezehome Alchemy Laboratory issue workaround

Xbox360: So I reloaded my save, made my way to Proventus, saved, uninstalled the Dawnguard DLC, bought Breezhome and related paraphenalia, saved, reinstalled Dawnguard DLC, and loaded.

Sweet. except for one thing. I was on the 'Trouble in Skyrim' radiant mission for the Companions questline, between 'Take Up Arms' and 'Proving Honor', and noticed that the game had 'forgotten ' the location of the target. In my case it was Moldering Ruins, a short way west of Rorikstead. I headed there anyway and cleared it out, but there was no message to return to Farkas, and indeed when I saw Farkas he still considered the quest as being unfinished. Result: Campanions questline broken.

Guess I'll be reloading again and clearing Moldering Ruins BEFORE attending to the Breezehome issue, see if that works...

Queinty 22:54, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

UPDATE: Reloaded, cleared Moldering Ruins and returned to Farkas to close the quest successfully. Made the Breezehome purchase with Dawnguard uninstalled, then reinstalled to find that Skjor is happy to give me the 'Proving Honor' Quest. After however, in the completed quest list, 'Trouble in Skyrim' still reports the location as 'forgotten' (replacing it with [...], and the marker for Moldering Ruins has been removed from my map, presumably until I hear of it via Radiant or I rediscover the location myself. But I'm able to continue on with the Companions questline, so no worries really.

Hope this helps anyone in a similar situation.

Queinty 09:33, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

I bought Breezhome aware of this glitch. I tried buying it in different orders to see if that might make a difference (buying first, buying last) to no avail. I also tried reloading to see if it has to do with existing quest. I am playing as a vampire and have most of my stuff at castle Volkhair so I really don't want to uninstall. I was wondering if anybody else has come up to a nice work around for this yet? --SamGhadiali 08:23, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Dawnguard and the Mannequin Duplicate Glitch

I'm not sure if the Dawnguard or patch for dawnguard comes with an update that fixes the mannequin dupe glitch. I can no longer use this glitch to dupe my gear. I didn't know if I should put this on the Skyrim glitches or not due to spoilers but if this is the case then I wonder about the Oghma Infinium, which I havn't retrieved yet. Is there a way to check this?--50.135.172.120 18:02, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

I don't know where the mannequin glitch info should be placed, if it's true for everyone, but I do know that the Oghma glitch still works, as my partner just used it two days ago. ABCface 18:14, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
The mannequin glitch is on the main skyrim Glitches page, so info should be placed there. KingK 21:29, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
If it's already on the main Glitches page, that's where the new related information should be placed. Thanks KingK. ABCface 12:54, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Dead Dragons Spawning Everywhere!

I started experiencing this bug as soon as I installed Dawnguard. It sees to be a particular problem when walking out of Jorrvaskr; a dead dragon will just randomly spawn right on top of me. But sometimes it happens when I quick-travel too. In fact, quick-traveling seems to attract dragons to me, especially if it's to an area I haven't been to in a while, whether it's a town or dungeon. (Went to Western Watchtower and found a dead dragon, who's soul I automatically absorbed. I was then immediately attacked by another dragon.) For reference, I'm playing on Xbox. SonGoharotto 14:18, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

This happened to me once or twice but not in while. There seem to be a lot of new glitches added by Dawnguard, they will probably be patched soon though. As for your problem, you could try re-installing DG to see if that makes any difference or start a new game if it is a big problem. RIM 14:26, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
I'm 116 hours into my first game, so no, I will not be restarting, lol. Hasn't caused any major glitches. It's just weird walking out of the pub and right into a dragon's ass. SonGoharotto 15:25, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
I was 146 hrs into a game when I reset for Odahviing because I fount out his level is set when the player first meets him, (I was lvl 9), so it don't matter bout resetting as its always fun :)KingK 22:20, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Uninstall

What happens if you delete the update or remover the DLC. ie. do you loose items stored in one of the castles, (Dawnguard Castle for eg.) and if yes, do you get them back when you reinstall the DLC. Also if you remove the DLC when you have an item from the DLC eg. Dragonbone Weapons, do they dissapear or stay KingK 11:41, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

If it follows the same rules as uninstalling any addon or mod, then yes, you will lose everything added by Dawnguard and everything you have placed in a Dawnguard area (such as stored in a castle). If you load a saved game after uninstalling and then save that game, reloading that game with Dawnguard reinstalled will not restore anything you achieved in Dawnguard. Dragonbone weapons were added by Dawnguard and would thus be removed on uninstallation. Vely►t►e 16:20, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Four New Dragon Shouts

The page says there are 4 new dragon shouts. But there's only three: Summon Durnehviir, Drain Vitality, and Soul Rend. There's no 4th shout. Since the page is locked, I can't fix that error. Ghilz 19:35, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

There is actually four: Drain Vitality, Soul Tear, Summon Durnehviir, and also Soul Cairn Summon. The last one, however, is only used by Durnehviir, and cannot be used by the player. Thanks for bringing this up though, because it might lead some players to believe they can access all four new shouts. I'll reword it so it's clear that only three are useable by the player. Thanks! -ABCface 19:56, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Sub Section

I am wondering why we don't Dawnguard as a subsection of Skyrim? We have the expansions of Morrowind and Oblivion as a subsection shouldn't we be doing the same for Dawnguard? 21 July 2012 05:37 (UTC) — Unsigned comment by Warof7 (talkcontribs)

There was some discussion on this earlier, getting to the conclusion that, since there's not a whole new place like Solstheim or the Shivering Isles were (well, yes there is, but it's not the bulk of the content), integrating it into the existing content would be a better approach, just as the content alters the province of Skyrim by adding a few new places (in the same landmass) and creatures. Knights of the Nine was integrated into the Oblivion pages and does not have its own subsection, so that is similar to this. Vely►t►e 14:46, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Dawnguard for PS3 & PC

Any idea when it will be arriving for these platforms? KingKTalk 09:00, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Well the 30 day xbox exclusive time has ended, but there is still no confirmed date yet for the PC or PS3. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 09:20, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Dawnguard downloaded, but not showing up in Add-ons!

I downloaded it using my 360 hard drive on my brother's console at his apartment (I don't have wired internet at my parent's house to do the download). Now, a few days later at my house, when I try to use features that appeared when I tested it out at my brother's house, it doesn't work! Would it have anything to do with the fact that I overwrote the autosave where I first used it? I don't understand what's going on. I know the download is there because it's taking up storage space on my ancient 20 GB hard drive, and it shows up when I look at Skyrim in the storage menu. I'd look at the installation issue page, but that link just takes me to the add-ons page and it's talk page, with little specifically about this crazy bug.--Playerseekingbugs 20:03, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Are you using a different gamertag on your console than you used to purchase/download it? Maybe it has to do with using a different gamertag in the marketplace? ABCface 20:18, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
No. It's the same one I used for the download. Otherwise I wouldn't have had access to the save I used to test it. I do note that my avatar has turned white in the menu, as if it was deleted and I need to make one again. I also note that even though the download isn't being registered by the game, achievements that must have come from it are listed under Skyrim in the achievement menu. I also encountered the Alduin never lands glitch when I tried to test making a new character. I doubt it would have helped anyways; as I know that my most recent saves register Dawnguard content just fine as long as the stuid game itself does. Surely being connected to live isn't required to have the add-on active, right?--Playerseekingbugs 20:34, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
you need to do a liscense transfer on ur xbox — Unsigned comment by 96.51.212.89 (talk) at 00:15 on 30 July 2012
The anon has it, here is a link to the full info on xbox.com[1]. But in short take your xbox to your brothers, hook it up to the internet and follow those instructions. The only way you can play the DLC without doing the license transfer is over Xbox Live with the gamertag you used to download it. --SPMcKinneyTCE 00:46, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
Thank for this information. I didn't know that using the same gamertag and hard drive wasn't enough for purchased add-ons to games. The most recent patch I downloaded using my brother's sytem, but my hard drive worked fine, so I assumed there shouldn't be any need to bring my entire system to download Dawnguard.--Playerseekingbugs 02:15, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Possible Problem with the eyes

My character that I did my first run through of Dawnguard is a lvl 68 Nord. After I turned vampire, I looked at my characters eyes, and realised that one of them was a vampire eye while the other one was still the normal eye I had before. I don't know if this is the way it's supposed to be, or a glitch in the system. I'm just looking for some verification. — Unsigned comment by 68.2.160.33 (talk) at 06:58 on 1 August 2012

Yes that is a glitch, both your eyes are supposed to be glowing orange/yellow. RIM 11:32, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Cannot Summon Durnehviir

When I was talking to Durnehviir after defeating him, he only gave me one of the shouts needed to summon him. Not all three. I then used a dragon soul to unlock the one and not realizing I played a little more of the game and saved over already so I cannot reload and go back. I'd rather not start a new character just for this. Please tell me if there is a way to fix this bug. I have heard of other people having trouble with the shout as well, not the summoning but the shout itself cause of a bug happening when you unlock with a soul. Please please help. Also, for help references I am playing on the 360 — Unsigned comment by 76.25.189.147 (talk) at 21:19 on 7 August 2012

Have you tried going back to the Soul Cairn and speaking to him again? I chose the option that i was busy and he didnt teach me any of the words, but when i went back a few hours later he gave me the words. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 21:23, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
I cant find him in there. Unless he is being a ninja. Where would he be in the soul cairn? thank you — Unsigned comment by 76.25.189.147 (talk) at 21:26 on 7 August 2012
If you go to the gate of the boneyard where you originally met Valerica. go down the stairs, and face the door. Go right and you should see a gap in the wall. He is on what looks like a word wall but it has no word to teach... sorry if these directions are bad! — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 21:30, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
