Upgrades not available?Edit

Anyone else having issues buying the upgrades? I've brought the house, gotten the book and yet the guy won't sell me any upgrades at all. No dialogue appears about buying upgrades or anything. Can anyone help with this?--Dro'Bakha 09:16, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Hm, weird. It works fine for me. I'm assuming you're using the steward of the Jarl in Whiterun.
I have noticed that in Skyrim, sometimes certain dialog choices will not appear at certain times. Sometimes if the NPC is considered somewhat busy, or has just finished another conversation with you. Usually to fix this you can wait (I wait a whole day just to be safe) and go and visit them again. Dunno if that'll help

You have to talk to him about decorating your home. If it's not there, possibly glitch. But from some of the posts on the forums, it mostly seems to be player oversight. Just something you may have missed. -Zydrate[][] 18:39, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
I managed to get the dialogue after doing a bunch more quests. So it took a while for it to come up.--Dro'Bakha 20:01, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
I can confirm that the dialogs seems to not show up all the time: First I talked to him in the throne room where he offered to sell me the upgrades, then I talked to him out on the balcony of the keep where he didn't offer me them and finaly I bought them off him while standing next to the map in the room between the throne room and the balcony. --212.3.14.177 13:27, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Then that particular dialog line is probably treated as though he is a shopkeeper. The "what do you have for sale?" line is only available as a conversation option when they are in their place of work and within store hours. If you catch Eorlund, for example, walking to or from the Sky-Forge you can talk to him but you can't buy/sell from him until he's actually at the forge. Most likely the steward is considered "off duty" when he's out of the throne room.--QuillanTalk 15:31, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Try talking to the steward when he's inside Dragonsreach, the dialog doesn't pop up otherwise. — Unsigned comment by 24.222.39.211 (talk) at 07:48 on 20 November 2011

() I can also confirm that the dialog option to buy upgrades does not show up while he's on the balcony. Kerrick 23:01, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

I never met this problem until today - but before I had all the DLCs but Hearthfire, now I have this one too. So, I talked to Proventus Avenicii in the Balcony area and he offered every single upgrade but the Bedroom one ! I reloaded, left Lydia behind, waiting for me but still the same problem. Finally, I awaited till he got inside Dragonsreach and there he offered every upgrades, including the Bedroom. — Unsigned comment by 193.251.8.129 (talk) at 14:39 on 10 October 2013‎
Since there have been multiple reports of this bug, I've put it on the main page as a confirmed bug. I don't think this bug applies to the Stormcloak steward if Whiterun is controlled by the Stormcloaks, but if there are any reports of that then post them here. --Morrolan (talk) 14:54, 10 October 2013 (GMT)
Just an FYI, I altered the wording to make it clear that this bug doesn't always occur, as I was able to purchase the child's bedroom from him while he was on the balcony just fine. I even have a screenshot of it that I took for an unrelated discussion. --Xyzzy Talk 01:42, 11 October 2013 (GMT)
Xbox One Skyrim SE, I too had the problem for the first time (after about 6 play throughs from xb360 and Xb One) of being able to purchase the home, but having no option to decor or furnish the place. Like someone else mentioned, while Avonici is on the balcony of Dragon's Reach having some tea, I gave him Adrianne's sword, then purchased the house but no options were available to purchase decor nor furnishings. I went to the home to check in case it had all the furnishings to start, and it DID NOT. I went back up to contact Avonici again, and inside the main room, he still did not have decor and furnishing dialog available. To work around this I had to load a prior save and insure that I talked with Avonici while he was inside the main throne room, then the decor and furnishings dialog then appeared as available selections. 216.58.27.151 07:28, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Buying the book after overrunning Whiterun with the Stormcloaks?Edit

Perhaps I'm just missing something, but I can't even talk to Balgruuf's steward anymore, nor does the new one in Dragonreach have anything to say about the home after I bought it. Anyone else having similar problems? — Unsigned comment by 69.183.59.246 (talk) at 02:24 on 16 November 2011 (UTC)

To be honest after I took over Whiterun I lost being Thane and now I cant do anything new in the house...help? — Unsigned comment by 85.65.178.174 (talk) at 11:22 on 21 February 2012
If you buy all the upgrades for Breezehome, the steward loses his dialogue for upgrades. --Morrolan (talk) 14:46, 10 October 2013 (GMT)

Breezehome bedroom not updatingEdit

I just bought the bedroom upgrade of Proventus and the bedroom has not been upgraded. I tried the commands listed on the Breezehome page but they don't work. If anyone wants to help me please leave me a message on TES Wikia. My username is Alduin1996. 79.65.155.233 20:22, 19 September 2014 (GMT)

If you want to add a bug report, please do. Just make sure your current game has or has not had any mods or unofficial patches installed. —MortenOSlash (talk) 04:49, 29 September 2014 (GMT)

Breezehome LockedEdit

I was playing Skyrim and I went to Breezehome only to find it locked. I went to the steward and talked to him and he said I had fully furnished it (I had). I reloaded the auto save and still nothing. I like putting my keys in the drawer so I don't have to mess with them. The only thing I can think of is that I did the Civil War quest and attacked Whiterun did that mess it up? — Unsigned comment by 184.155.49.44 (talk) at 05:52 on 7 January 2015 (GMT)

It sounds like you probably hadn't been to Whiterun in a long time and the door reset. I believe that's normal, intended behaviour. Much like locking your keys in the car, you've now just locked yourself out of your own home, only nobody in Skyrim as a spare set or a coat-hanger. If you're on the PC, you can use the Console to unlock the door (pull up the console, click on the door, and type unlock). If you're not on the PC, your only recourse will be to load an earlier game where you can still get into your house. Robin Hood  (talk) 19:30, 7 January 2015 (GMT)

Door errorEdit

Is it me or does the door to breezehome have opposite hinges from the inside? 151.226.76.187 21:28, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

Disable/enable console codes aren't enough for children's bedroom.Edit

I have the Unofficial Dawnguard patch, and the Unofficial Hearthfire patch. All of them, really. Where it says "prid e4ef9 disable prid e4ec8 enable" for the Alchemy Lab? I'm perfectly able to purchase it from Proventus, but I can't buy "Replace my Alchemy Lab with a Children's Bedroom [...]" (no dollar amount, but it takes away money). There's another fix for the children's bedroom "prid e4ef9 disable prid 04004274 enable". The game does not recognize it, even though it's there. I can't suggest for Lucia to move in. Arthmoor insists that there's a mod overwriting, but see, I started a clean install months ago and have this same issue. The first new game, I was able to purchase it without any problems. Then a second new character can't do that at all. Does anybody know how to get Skyrim to recognize that you have the children's bedroom, via console maybe? — Unsigned comment by 66.69.36.26 (talk) at 21:09 on 10 November 2015 (UTC)

I think I've got an solution for that. Try these console commands:
stopquest BYOHRelationshipAdoptable
resetquest BYOHRelationshipAdoptable
setstage BYOHRelationshipAdoptable 0
stopquest BYOHRelationshipAdoptableOrphanage
resetquest BYOHRelationshipAdoptable
setstage BYOHRelationshipAdoptableOrphanage 0
setstage BYOHRelationshipAdoptableOrphanage 100
They reset the Adoptionquests. After that, I was able to adopt Lucia and Sofia to live in Breezehome.

Breezehome and Whirlwind SprintEdit

If you are over-encumbered and Fast Travel to Whiterun while mounted, aim for Breezehome's door, and use the three words of Whirlwind Sprint. You will end up against the door (or at least very close to it), saving you the trouble of slowly walking there. William JCM (talk) 11:49, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Follower in Prison GlitchEdit

I've had this happen twice now on two different files where I walk into Breezehome, and when I leave my follower isn't there. I go to the Whiterun prisons and they're stuck in a cell. Is this a just a Breezehome glitch or does this happen in other places? I figured it was related to Breezehome because it happened there both times. Can anyone else confirm this glitch? Should this be added to the list? --Hanzo36 (talk) 19:47, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
