Location of Soul Essence GemEdit

Where is the Soul Essence Gem? — Unsigned comment by 67.142.165.20 (talk) at 00:56 on 4 August 2012

Its in a chest under one of those giant floating gems. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 01:36, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
The chest is on the roof -- you have to step on a portal to be transported up. -- Gataroja 14 July 2019

Can't interact with ValericaEdit

> While you are able to speak with her, she cannot be reached due to an invisible barrier. During the course of interacting with her...

In my case, the first time I saw her I was blocked by the barrier. She's too far for me to even talk to her, and she made no attempt to come to me. After I killed one of the keepers (I might have killed one or two keepers before that point, to the left side of the dividing wall), wandered around, killed the unrelated reaper, and returned to her (to see if I could talk to her to get the quest markers), the barrier was then gone, I could reach her, but pressing action key had no response. 50.0.25.231 00:03, 31 December 2012 (GMT)

I see. I lost Serana somehow and upon finding her she wouldn't follow me again. prid and moveto player work. She and Valerica need a little reunion speech first before the quest can continue. 50.0.25.231 00:32, 31 December 2012 (GMT)

Keeper weaponsEdit

I went into the Soul cairn at least twice with dragon armor and weapons and was able to loot the weapons of the keepers. So if you have the dragon armor perk you will be able to loot the weapons a dragonbone battleaxe, mace and bow respectively. — Unsigned comment by 82.73.72.148 (talk) at 13:23 on 5 January 2013

Soul Essence Gem ProblemEdit

This quest won't come up for me. I opted to have her partially soultrap me, but the dialogue never came up. Is this a bug?

EDIT: Ah, it seems I removed the "Weakened soul" problem with a Cure Disease potion. I drank it, then the disease-like problem vanished. 98.65.232.216 13:11, 28 February 2013 (GMT)NimhShambler

I wonder if that's supposed to happen. Seems to "easy" to me; I think that should be added as a bug. --Enodoc (talk) 22:56, 12 March 2013 (GMT)

LootableEdit

(PS3 user) According to the article, "the Keepers will have 1-4 minions (bonemen, mistmen or wrathmen) that will attack you, usually ahead of your encountering the Keeper. Sadly you can't pick up any of their armor or weapons that they drop." Not in my case. Except in Reaper's Lair, EVERY minion was lootable for me (they yielded weapons, soul gems, etc.) but I explored the Soul Cairn and defeated all of them before ever talking to Valerica. Maybe that's why? Or Maybe the Keepers spawn different minions after Valerica gives her task to the player?MrC (talk) 19:39, 12 March 2013 (GMT)

That could be a case of ambiguous wording. You can't take the armour or weapons of the keepers, but you usually can take that of the minions. --Enodoc (talk) 21:29, 12 March 2013 (GMT)
You're right about the Keepers' armor. But their weapons are lootable.MrC (talk) 22:41, 12 March 2013 (GMT)
I think the weapons are lootable only if you are at an appropriate level (above ~40). If you are below that level, you can't get the weapons either (based on discussions at SR talk:Keeper). --Enodoc (talk) 22:56, 12 March 2013 (GMT)
Interesting, I didn't know that. Also unfortunate for lower level players, since I got my first three dragonbone weapons off of the Keepers!MrC (talk) 22:58, 12 March 2013 (GMT)

Weakened Soul Disease BugEdit

I've removed the bug report claiming that the "Weakened Soul" effect could be removed with a Cure Disease potion. This is not possible as Weakened Soul is applied as an ability, and cure potions only operate on spells flagged as a disease. Arthmoor (talk) 06:58, 27 April 2013 (GMT)

Ah, fair enough. Perhaps the editor above was confused over what they had actually done, or perhaps one of the patches corrected its flag from disease to ability. --Enodoc (talk) 12:19, 27 April 2013 (GMT)
No, the bug and fix appear to work as the editor suggested. Prior to speaking with Valerica, I had explored the Soul Cairn and found my soul essence fragment. Upon adding the item to my inventory, it converted into a black soul gem. The weakened soul ailment persisted. Then, the option to ask Valerica about how to cure my weakened soul never appeared. The cure disease potion then removed the weakened soul status. This occurred on PC.--Zthomasack (talk) 02:40, 10 January 2021 (EST)

Valerica won't initiate conversation with seranaEdit

She doesn't walk up to the barrier and neither will serana, I've killed a keeper already, could that be the problem? Emzi43 (talk) 13:31, 30 June 2013 (GMT)

KeepersEdit

I can only find 2 of the Keepers. I have no indicators of where any of them are. I have the 2 directly across from each other. Where is the third? Why don't I have any indicators? — Unsigned comment by Baldy56 (talkcontribs) at 05:13 on 24 July 2013

See my section below "Lost Serena, can't talk to Valerica". You need to enter the Reaper's Lair and find Serena. Once you have Serena with you she will be able to speak to her mother, and you can join in the conversation and get the quest markers to lead to the keepers. I think this is a glitch as none of the walk throughs say anything about it and list "talk to valerica" as the first step (which is impossible because she won't come over and talk to you until after Serena initiates conversation). — Unsigned comment by 99.67.230.16 (talk) at 14:58 on 7 March 2014
I had something completely different happen. After Valerica gave me the quest, I had all three markers pop up, but after I killed the first one, two of the markers disappeared. When I killed the Keeper whose marker was still there, the quest prompt said "Completed: Kill the Keepers (3/3) / Return to Valerica", even though I had only killed two of them. The quest progressed just fine from there. --Shahrazad the Listener (talk) 14:23, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Lost Serena, can't talk to ValericaEdit

[PS3] Upon entering Soul Cairn Serena was gone and I couldn't find her. The quest marker showed Valerica but I could not talk to her. I wandered around for approximately 3 hours and killed two of the keepers, but the third keeper never showed. I finally found Serena in the Reaper's Lair. I already had some reaper gem fragment's, so I was able to activate the thing in the center of the room. After I left Serena finally followed me and the quest continued as normal. Very frustrating and glitchy quest. — Unsigned comment by 99.67.230.16 (talk) at 14:54 on 7 March 2014‎

Valerica will sometimes not move when returning to her after killing the Boneyard Keepers.Edit

[PC] Moving out of the Boneyard into the Soul Cairn and moving back in fixed the problem as well.

[PC] What worked for me, Selecting the container with the Elder scroll, type disable in console, take scroll, type enable in console. Then go back and speak with Valerica to continue the quest.
