Skyrim talk:Aura Whisper

Keeping Hidden statusEdit

I know Aura Whisper's description says that it's a whisper, but does using this shout cause enemies to detect you?

On an unrelated note, combining a Necklace of Talos with Talos' Blessing reduces the cooldown time of the three-word version to 30 seconds, so you can use it right after it wears off. --Fluff 22:17, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

It doesn't cause enemies to detect you, although I have had guards run up and do their "Don't shout, it scares people" speech. I had that happen twice while doing a thieves guild quest, so the guard did that speech, and then immediately detected me and tried to arrest me for trespassing.
So, aside from that glitch, Aura Whisper allows you to stay hidden. Chris3145 22:28, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
I actually alert people while using this 'shout', however very slight and I get back to hidden status in just a few seconds. Is that part of this glitch?-Zydrate[][] 02:26, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Same here. It is a "whisper" in the sense that it isn't a Shout, but NPCs can still hear you use it if they're close enough. As Zydrate says though, it's very faint and doesn't seem to hold their attention long. (Xbox) — Unsigned comment by 24.247.177.201 (talk) at 21:34 on 6 January 2012 (GMT)
I also have noticed on multiple occasions, enemies, and locations that this shout will alert enemies if used. If used very nearby (but out of sight) an enemy can be alerted, although they do not seem aware of your location. They just become "alert" and show up as a red dot, in addition to your sneak-eye beginning to open. Even when not nearby, it's noticeable that certain enemies will go into the half-alert status. Your eye will stay closed the entire time, but the enemy will change from just "standing" and occasional "wandering around" to "ready for battle". They will develop the hunched-over status, will prepare a spell or hold out their weapon, and they will suddenly start pacing around very fast, as if searching. In both cases, just holding still will generally make them go back to "normal," but there was one case in which I held still, and the enemy came around a corner and started attacking. We may need to update the description. It's definitely not good to say it won't alert enemies when it might. (Xbox)--Amsuko 06:04, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
If you're in third person view, you will notice that you stand up and run while using this shout, if you are moving at all. This may be why it can sometimes cause enemies to detect you. Peterguard (talk) 14:46, 29 September 2013 (GMT)
All magic spells and Dragon Shouts make a noise enemies can hear unless Illusion: Quiet Casting is unlocked. However, Aura Whisper is "quieter" than other shouts. Even with Quiet Casting, "shouting" in or near a town, even in stealth mode and undetected, will cause a guard to be assigned to track you down and tell you to stop. If you enter a building with a loading screen before the guard catches up to you, they lose interest but if you shout again a new guard is assigned. They don't do anything though, other than the dialog, so you can keep shouting if you need to such as using Whirlwind Sprint to move quicker when overloaded. On Dragon Wall translationsEdit

I was wondering if anyone thought I should translate some more and post them. I'm pretty new to wiki's and I'm not sure if I'm formatting things correctly, so I apologize in advance --Kevalan 19:44, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

One of the main reasons I translated it was to hear how it sounded spoken in dragon, as I cannot read the runes. I felt it appropriate to add the words in the roman alphabet. --Kevalan 22:33, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
The translation should go at the location of the word wall, not on the Dragon Shout page. You can get different words depending on which order you visit the walls, so you can't say that the current translation will always be for Laas. --Fluff 02:26, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
Actually, that can't be true, because the word you just learned is in the text. I actually was curious if any of the words of power were in any of the other texts, so I started deciphering them. So far, no word of power is written on any wall other then the one you learn it from. Perhaps the words can be learned at different locations, but when you get Laas this is what it will read on the wall, which means the exact opposite: The location of the wall is not what matters, and it is the word that you are learning that decides what goes on the wall. --Kevalan 2:50, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
Indeed, I didn't even consider the possibility that what was written on each wall might not be static. In retrospect, that makes sense since the word that you're learning has to be on the wall. My bad. --Fluff 03:06, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
The last two words are transposed on the page. Nir is the second word. When you use the shout the player is clearly trying to say a mangled dragon version of "I see ya!" 72.83.47.93 15:25, 12 September 2013 (GMT)

Centurion Steaming BugEdit

I just encountered a bug where using Aura Whisper in Blackreach caused my character to start steaming like a Steam Centurion. I noticed afterwards that this is somewhere in the UESP forums, but thought it may be worth mentioning so it could be added to the article as a bug. --Enodoc (talk) 13:08, 24 November 2012 (GMT)

Wall confusionEdit

One of the first walls I was directed to by the Greybeards was Valthume. However, not wishing to encounter Hevnoraak while still a fairly low level character I went and got the first word from Northwind Summit. When I read the word, the game responded as if I'd found the word in Valthume. Later, on actually going to Valthume (I'd got the second word from Volunruud), I had no trouble getting the third word. Peterguard (talk) 14:54, 29 September 2013 (GMT)

Valthume Bug - Removed from articleEdit

  • If you learn the first word of the shout at Northwind Summit and then go to Valthume, you'll learn the third word next, but it won't appear in the shouts list because the second word hasn't been learned. After this, the word wall for the second word in Volunruud won't work at all (the word wall sound effects are played, but nothing happens when it is approached). The same thing happens if you go to Valthume after learning the first two words.

The lines in itallics have been added by Special:Contributions/178.252.126.70(Talk). However I'm removing them again because they seem rather weird. If you go to valthume after learning the first two words, the reason for the third word not to appear can't be that you don't know the second word, since you already know the second word (as stated in the first half of the sentence). It rather seems to me that this is just a common "Word Wall not giving word"-bug -- SarthesArai Talk 19:25, 17 December 2013 (GMT)

Draugr Eyes GlitchEdit

Seeing that this glitch is still unfixed on consoles, does anyone know specific, repeatable conditions that cause it? I feel that it would beneficial to know. — Unsigned comment by 66.249.85.230 (talk) at 23:57 on 26 January 2014 (GMT)

It may help to know that I had 2 of the 3 words when I noticed I had the draugr eyes, and fixed with the console. After I unlocked the third word, I decided to use the shout to make my way through Blackreach. I did not experience the glitch at all. So it may be that location and number of words unlocked are factors. Something to keep in mind for future investigations, at least.23.228.165.159 11:38, 14 March 2015 (GMT)

Trivia on the wordEdit

If casted it sounds like the german "leuchte mir" which means "give me light".

Coincidence and worth noting this anywhere? — Unsigned comment by 88.217.0.24 (talk) at 00:41 on 14 August 2014 (GMT)

We don't list etymologies on the wiki. They're too subjective and almost never noteworthy. Zul se onikaanLaan tinvaak 00:47, 14 August 2014 (GMT)
We do list them, but only in exceptional cases where their connection to the subject is strong enough. In this case, I don't think it's worth noting, as the Aura Whisper is a shout that detects life, not a source of light. —<({QT>> 01:24, 14 August 2014 (GMT)

The Comma in ContextEdit

Regarding this edit, I will make my case here on adding the comma back. The edit states "[...] the context seems to imply that he [Undveld] slayed servants, not that he was a servant and slayer". I believe this fellow Undveld was, in fact, both.

Here's the translation of Nir as it stands, for reference:

Here fell (the) fearless archer Undveld, servant[disputed comma here] slayer, wolf, and lord of (the) Great Hunt.

Lord of (the) Great Hunt. I imagine it's a weird concept to be both a servant and a lord, but I believe its possible, as the Great Hunt and wolf parts are obvious references to Hircine. Thus Undveld was a lord of the hunt, but ultimately a servant as well. (Besides, what Nord wants to be known for slaying their own help? It's not like its a great feat of bravery.)

So I'm adding the comma back, unless someone finds a better reason for it to go. —likelolwhat talk lulzy to me 07:45, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

First Word Sounds Misspoken (for Dunmer Player)Edit

after you have all three words, when you use it (full three words), the LAAS part sounds like LIFE, laas indeed means life, but i guess maybe the voice actor forgot that he has to pronounce the dragon language not human language, and the producer said "ah well, just let it be"...just my opinion. — Unsigned comment by Endly (talkcontribs) at 23:56 on 25 January 2017 (UTC)
