Stops working as a trainerEdit

I've noticed one some of my characters which are not leveling one-handed that he appears to stop offering training, perhaps after doing his quest or beating him up for the Companions quest? — Unsigned comment by 202.154.154.150 (talk) at 11:38 on 28 November 2011

I was still able to use him after I did his quest, but he stopped having that conversation item (not that he could help me anymore) after I did a companion quest regarding him (this time: finding him after he got kidnapped). So I guess it's the latter of your two missions. --Ulkomaalainen 18:45, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
As soon as I got to level 50 in one handed (I used his training to get there) the training option disappeared for me. Not1975 14:14, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
Well, that is a usual behaviour for common trainers, since they only train up to level 50 (see Trainers). Him stopping to train while still being below 50 is the case needing investigation. --Alfwyn 14:36, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

DialogueEdit

Is it just me or does the option 'You're not from Skyrim, are you?' not appear when playing as a Redguard? — Unsigned comment by 24.52.216.121 (talk) at 18:31 on 13 May 2012

It's due to a glitch. There's supposed to be a Redguard-specific dialogue option, in which he says:
"Ha! And neither are you, eh? Good to see another Redguard. I like to think we bring a little heat to this frozen wasteland."
However, instead of checking if the player's race is Redguard, it checks if the player's race is Nord. This is clearly a glitch, and it doesn't look like it was patched, so it's not just you. • JATalk 01:16, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
This has been fixed in the Unofficial Skyrim Patch.--Danice123 (talk) 20:17, 23 December 2012 (GMT)

Quest unavailable?Edit

I was playing a character the other day (Xbox version) who specializes in one-handed weapons and I took a long time before actually going to Whiterun after the start of the game. When I finally did end up going to and inside Whiterun my one-handed skill was already well above 50, which is higher than Amren can train you, even though my block skill was only in the 20's, he never gave me the quest to find his father's sword even after I stood and watched him argue with his wife and talked to him immediately after like usual. He only keeps saying I might be suited for mercenary work. I suspect the quest is unavailable for this character since my skill is higher than his and the reward is supposed to be a skill increase, but I'm only guessing this is the case, can anyone confirm/refute? 75.87.249.240 20:11, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter what level you are. Do you have this quest active for Shahvee? It would probably read "Find Shahvee's Amulet of Zenithar in Location" in your quest journal. With many of the radiant quests in Skyrim, there are similar quests which cannot be active at the same time. So if you have agreed to help Shahvee find her amulet, you must complete that quest for her before Amren will give you the quest. ABCface 21:24, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
I loaded up the save to check and I do not have that quest in my journal at all, let alone have it active, so it can't be that one. I double checked the misc. section as well and I don't currently have any radiant quest of that type listed at all, just stuff like joining the Stormcloaks/Legion, or going to Windhelm to talk to Aventus Aretino. I don't think those would have an effect on this, but hey I could be wrong. 75.87.249.240 06:09, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
my one-handed skill is currently at 23!! and it has nothing to do with it, since i have similar problem...and NO i have no other active radiant quests in my journal! i only visited Whiterun and Riverwood right now and hasn't discovered any other locations yet...so you could figure by i haven't spoken to Shahvee by that... — Unsigned comment by 91.90.15.51 (talk) at 19:15 on 5 August 2012

Schedule: SleepingEdit

The article says that Amren never sleeps. I just observed him sleeping between 7PM and 9PM on Middas. I was told to leave the house at 9PM. I am on PC with version 1.9.32.0.8. I have the unofficial patches installed, but I did not see anything in their patch notes regarding Amren sleeping. I don't believe I have any mods that would affect this. Someone may want to verify that. It's pretty easy to train with him and then steal your gold back while he sleeps. --Ignotus (talk) 01:17, 30 April 2013 (GMT)

That would be his WhiterunAmrenHomePackage (link). It is actually not an eating package but a sandbox package that allows him to do a number of different things while he is in the house between 7pm and 11pm. This means that you can't be sure he will be asleep, as he may as well decide to eat, wander, or just relax in a chair. I'll correct the article. --Krusty (talk) 04:42, 30 April 2013 (GMT)

Vampire GlitchEdit

Found a possible glitch. My character was a Nord Vampire, and when I spoke with Amren, he did not acknowledge me as a Nord. It seems that Vampirism overrides the Nord dialogue. --ChaoticQueen (talk) 02:06, 22 June 2014 (GMT)

When you are a vampire you are a different race (NordRaceVampire) compared to when not (NordRace). Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 03:07, 23 June 2014 (GMT)

"Mercenary Work"Edit

One of Amren's dialogue options is "You tried mercenary work? It might suit you." I know that he's a mercenary, and his quest is to hire you to hunt down his sword, but I was wondering if it might also gesture to the 'Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard.' It's by Bethesda and focuses on you, a male Redguard mercenary... Its not that much, but is anyone on this with me? Who knows, it might just be a coincidence. 67.163.130.147 02:31, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Redguards have a history of being employed as mercenaries and sailors, and if you think about it, a lot of the quests in Elder Scrolls games can be considered mercenary work. This probably is just a coincidence. Zul do onikaanLaan tinvaak 11:32, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
