Quick WalkthroughEdit

  1. Purchase the torture room upgrade from Delvin Mallory.
  2. Talk repeatedly to any of the four torture victims in the Dawnstar Sanctuary.
  3. Find the hidden treasure and claim it for yourself.

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

After purchasing the torture room upgrade for the Dawnstar Sanctuary from Delvin Mallory, you will find four very unlucky prisoners who all have quite a bit of gold hidden away in the wilderness for one reason or another. Talk to any of the four abductees repeatedly and they will reveal the location of their hidden treasure. Your journal will be updated with a new quest which points to the treasure's location. Now all you have to do is find the hidden treasure and claim it for yourself. You can interrogate all four victims at the same time to prevent multiple trips back to the sanctuary. You may only claim the treasure once, as it does not respawn.

The InheritanceEdit

Old woman

"Why are you people doing this?"
"Is it information you want?"
"This… this is about the inheritance, isn't it? All right! I'll tell you where I've hidden it."
"It's in a hollowed-out tree stump. In the marsh, south of Solitude. Now please, you'll let me go now. Right?"
"Why don't you be a dear and let me go now. All right? I won't say a word to anyone. Our little secret. I promise."

The tree stump south of Solitude

Even after the elderly Nord practically hands you her inheritance in exchange for freedom, you can do nothing but let her hang in the torture room and claim the gold. Traveling to the Abandoned Shack is a quicker option than Solitude, and you are bound to have it on your map. From the shack, proceed through the marshes in a southwesterly direction until you reach a small island several yards northeast of the Apprentice Stone. It is now a simple matter of taking the gold from the hollowed-out tree stump.

No More PainEdit

Red-haired man

"I'll tell you anything. Anything! Just please stop… hurting me…"
"I just…can't take the pain. Not a second longer."
"I'll give you money. Treasure. I have some things hidden away. Take them all. They're yours. Just please… stop."
"Just north of Windhelm. There's a hollowed-out rock. I have some things hidden in there. Take them! They're yours."
"I've told you everything I can. I don't know what else you could want…"

The rock near Windhelm

The hollowed-out rock sits out in the open, near the walls of Windhelm, on the northeastern side. The easiest path is traveling to Hollyfrost Farm and crossing the river. If you are in Windhelm, you will have to swim in an easterly direction from the city gate to get around the walls and reach the rock. In any case, locate the anonymous-looking rock halfway up the mountain, and beware of the wolves or other dangers in the area.

Kill me and be done with it...Edit

Long-haired man

"Please…"
"What is it you want?"
"Just… just stop. And I'll tell you where I've hidden my treasure."
"It's… in a hollowed-out rock. In the tundra. A bit west of Whiterun. Now please… please stop."
"Oh gods, you've taken everything I have. Just kill me and be done with it…"

The rock near Whiterun

This rock will spawn due west of Pelagia Farm, south of Whiterun. Travel to the farm and head west towards the mountainside. There is no need to climb the mountain; just stay on the ground and you will reach the rock in no time. It is squeezed in between two larger rocks.

Canceled WeddingEdit

Young woman

"You… you can't do this to me."
"Do you have any idea who I am? When my father hears about this, he will gut you."
"Ah, now I understand. This is about my father's hidden cache, isn't it? The dowry for my wedding?"
"Ha! Well it's safely hidden away, in a hollowed-out tree stump. Just outside Riften, tucked away nice and secure. You'll never find it."
"Damn it. I gave it away, didn't I?"

The tree stump near Riften

This victim's father apparently saved up money for his daughter's upcoming wedding and stashed it in a secure place outside Riften. With her being tied up inside the Sanctuary, the wedding is obviously canceled, so the savings are yours to take. Travel to Riften and proceed northwest, a few feet past Merryfair Farm. The hollowed-out tree stump is easy to spot and the gold is yours to keep.

NotesEdit

  • The hollowed-out rocks and tree stumps don't exist until you have interrogated the victims.
  • The rewards will, in most cases, easily cover your expenses for the torture room, and even net a maximum profit of 3000 gold. If your luck does not hold, you may actually lose up to 1000 gold. It is advised to save before talking to your victim and traveling to the location to check.
  • As the torture victims are completely restrained, they can easily be used to train skills on, as long as they are healed.

Notes
  • Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage DBTortureTreasureMiscObjective1 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest DBTortureTreasureMiscObjective1.
