Dawnguard Rune Hammer
"A powerful warhammer imbued with magic that places warding runes on the ground to obliterate it's [sic] wielder's foes."Florentius Baenius

The Dawnguard Rune Hammer is a powerful warhammer received as part of the Lost Relic quest. Its enchantment gives you the unique defensive ability to create a Fire Rune by bashing with the hammer while aiming at the surface the rune is to be placed upon, however the range at which the rune can be placed is not particularly long unless you have the Destruction perk Rune Master.

  • Use of the fire rune ability will level your skill in Destruction magic. However, it will not expend any magicka, but it does use stamina each time you bash with it which limits how many times in succession you can place runes with it before allowing your stamina to replenish itself. Since the fire rune spell is so powerful as to warrant having one of the highest magicka costs of any non-continuous spell, this makes the rune hammer a very effective means of grinding that skill.
  • The Dawnguard Rune Hammer is affected by the Destruction perk Rune Master.
  • Myrwatch's galleryCC contains a special holder for this item.
  • The weapon glows a bright golden light around its edges when equipped and drawn.

  • If you drop the hammer from your inventory, it will disappear completely.
    • Putting the weapon on any weapon display furniture will also cause it to disappear, however, this bug does not occur on PS consoles with the most recent update.
  • The hammer does not gain extra damage against vampires.
  • The rune may not cast when bashing.
    • Bashing right on the enemy might not cast the rune, so try to aim at their feet or the ground before them for best results.
