Travel to the College in hope of gaining entry

Quick WalkthroughEdit

  1. Hear or ask about the College of Winterhold.
  2. Travel to Winterhold and approach the College.

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

During conversations with certain NPCs, namely innkeepers and spell merchants, you may be given the option to ask them about magic training. You will usually be directed to either the local city's court mage or the College of Winterhold itself. Asking about the college directly will result in a new map marker and also brings up a miscellaneous quest to visit the College of Winterhold.

Arriving At The CollegeEdit

After arriving in Winterhold, you can see the college and the bridge leading to it. When attempting to cross the bridge, Faralda, a college mage guarding the bridge from unwanted visitors, will stop you and initiate the first college-related quest, First Lessons.

BugsEdit

  • This quest may be shown as incomplete if you successfully persuade Faralda, the Gatekeeper.
    •   The Unofficial Skyrim Patch, version 1.1, fixes this bug.
    •   Use the console command setstage MG01Pointer 200 to complete it.
  • The quest may also show as incomplete (and will point you to Nirya) if you tell Faralda that you are Dragonborn and show her your "shout".

Quest StagesEdit

Objective 10: Visit the College of Winterhold
200 Finishes quest
  • The following empty quest stages were omitted from the table: 255.
Notes
  • Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage MG01Pointer stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest MG01Pointer.
