Success

To start this quest you need to read Adonato Leotelli's Journal which can be found on a table on the upper floor of Candlehearth Hall. You will then need to travel to Cronvangr Cave.

At the end of the lair, the web mother will drop down and attack you alongside some frostbite spiders. The web mother can spit projectile spiders. The spirits of Holrik Frost-Sword and Grenwulf the Brawler will join the fight, and once the web mother is dead, will walk to their corpses.

Investigate Holrik's body and you will find the Ice Blade of the Monarch and Holrik's Note. Investigate Grenwulf's body and you will find the Fists of Randagulf and Grenwulf's Note.

NotesEdit

At the bottom of the first large chamber within Cronvangr Cave there is a button that opens to a vampire lair. This is an optional quest overlap location. This is the lair location of one of the “Pets of Skyrim”. Behind the gory shack on the upper ledge and in a cage is the Tamable Frostbite spider named “Arachnia”. It can be picked up now or later on following its associated quest.

BugsEdit

Sometimes the quest won't start even after reading Adonato Leotelli's Journal. ^?
- Manually triggering the quest by using console command setstage ccBGSSSE069_quest 20 will solve this issue.
After killing the Web Mother, Grenwulf's ghost may not lead you to his corpse after Holrik has done the same.
- Exiting the Broodlair into the main cave and returning will remedy this.
- You can also use resurrect 0 in the console.
Grenwulf and Holrik can be given follower commands by holding the action key. Doing that, then waiting for them to disappear and then giving a command to either one will instantly crash the game. ^?

Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage ccBGSSSE069_Quest stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest ccBGSSSE069_Quest.
