Detailed WalkthroughEdit

FarmingEdit

Once you have completed The Unquiet Dead, Goldenhills Plantation is now yours. You will be given this quest to walk you through the various farming activities needed to get the place up and running.

Your first step will be to plant 10 crops in any of the plots of Fertile Soil around the property. There are plenty of plots on the property, and you can change your selection of crops at a later date if you so choose. Once this is complete, you will be prompted to hire a personal steward. Many potential followers will be willing to work as your steward if you bring them to the farm. You can also move your spouse to Goldenhills and ask them to take over as steward instead.

StewardshipEdit

With your choice of steward in place, the next step will be to hire some manual labor for the farm. You can speak to your steward about this and they will hire two generic farmhands. Alternatively, if you wish to provide your own hires, you can recruit Angrenor Once-Honored, Brenuin, Embry, or Narfi.

Once you have hired two farmhands, you will be prompted to construct an animal pen. This will require you to use the Farmer's Workbench near the entrance to the farmhouse. There are several construction options available, but for the animal pens all you will need is three firewood and a set of nails. Build it and you will be prompted to purchase some livestock via your steward. They will arrange for the purchase of cows, goats, and chickens for the farm.

HarvestEdit

With all this in place, you now have a fully operational farm. You will have to wait a few days for the plantation to begin turning a profit. When your first income is available, you will be prompted to collect payment from your steward. Your farm will continue to generate revenue passively, which you can collect from your steward at your leisure.

The final step to complete this quest will be to investigate the Pantry Cupboard inside the farmhouse. Open it and you will receive the following tutorial message:

Crops, milk, and eggs produced by the farm will be automatically stored in this cupboard.

Within the cupboard you should find the first few samples of auto-harvested crops. This cupboard will continue to be filled passively over time, depending on what you choose to grow on the farm.

Congratulations, you have completed setting up your farm! There are plenty of other upgrades and activities to do at Goldenhills to develop it into a truly profitable enterprise.

BugsEdit

  • It is possible that you will not get the dialog options to make any of your followers a steward after planting the crops.
  • It is possible that even after hiring a steward, the quest marker will be stuck on stage 10.
  • It is possible that the quest will not automatically start after completing The Unquiet Dead.

NotesEdit

  • If you hire Narfi, you may still have to kill him later for an early Dark Brotherhood writ. It is possible to hire another farmhand to replace him if this occurs.
  • The quest will still start as usual if The Unquiet Dead is completed via console, but you will not have received the key or ownership of the house. This means that you cannot hire a steward or farmhands, nor interact with the workbench, which renders it impossible to complete the quest without the use of further console commands.

Quest StagesEdit

Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
0 Now that I've laid the ghosts haunting <Alias=FarmLocation> to rest and claimed it for my own, I should see about getting my new homestead restored to its former glory. First I should get some crops in the ground.
Objective 0: Plant crops (0/10)
10 I should find a steward to manage the day-to-day operations. Perhaps one of my allies would be willing to take on the job after I show them the place? Or I'm sure my spouse could run the farm, if I make this our home.

Notes
  • Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage ccVSVSSE004_RestoreFarmQuest stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest ccVSVSSE004_RestoreFarmQuest.
