You will find her hiding by the shore. When approached, she laments.

"Oh, please be here. Y'ffre damn this swamp! Where can they be?"

She will need help finding her belongings after escaping brigands:

"Please, don't hurt me! I have nothing of value!"
I won't harm you. I'm not a bandit.
"Thank the Eight! Forgive me. It seems like everything in this horrible swamp is trying to kill me!
I saw brigands on the road earlier and hid my belongings for fear they'd be stolen. Now I can't remember where I left them! I was so frightened."
I may be able to help.
"Would you, really? I'm not used to kindness from strangers. I'd welcome your help!
I put my things in several hollow tree stumps, then I got all turned around. All of the stumps here look alike, and there are crocodiles everywhere!"
Then we'd better start searching.

Suriel following you while searching the stumps

Speaking with her again:

"You're very kind. I'm sorry to make you go to all this trouble. I feel like such a fool.
I don't have much, but I'll pay you what I can."

If you leave the designated search area, she calls out to you.

Suriel: "Come back! Don't leave me!"

She asks you to help her find her belongings. They're located in rotting tree stumps. After finding all of her belongings:

Suriel: "You did it! Now follow me, quickly!"

You must follow her to the riverbank where she is too anxious to escape:

"Look, see? That abandoned boat is my only chance!
Please, give me my things. I need to get away from here!"
Your chance for what? I don't understand.
"There's no time. I've already had years of my life stolen from me! Please, just give me my belongings."
Years of your life stolen? What are you talking about?
"Sheor's teeth, she's coming!
Keep those blasted trinkets. I have to get out of here before she catches me!"

Suriel and Aldyna

Suriel will get up and run again, this time to the north. Follow her. An abandoned boat lies in wait. Meanwhile, a Dunmer woman approaches from the north.

Suriel: "Help me push it into the water!"
Aldyna: "Somehow, I knew I'd find you here."

You will learn that Suriel is an escaped slave and begs you not to return her back to Aldyna:

"Please, don't let her take me back! I'll give back the trinkets, but I can't go back!"
These items belong to her?
"Yes, they're her property. And so am I, according to Vvardenfell law. Why should I honor the laws of slavers?
You're working for her, aren't you? I can't believe I trusted you!"
You're wrong. I don't work with slavers.
"What? But you're one of the Pact! I thought you were all the same!
You'll let me go free, then? What about Aldyna?"
This should be enough to buy your freedom. [Advances the quest.]
How did you come to be a slave?
"There was a drought and my family's crops failed. There were too many mouths to feed.
Some Dark Elf traders arrived in port. I didn't even know what was happening until I saw my father walk off the boat. I was only fifteen."
This should be enough to buy your freedom.[Leveled gold] [Advances the quest.]
This is between the two of you. Leave me out of this. [Advances the quest.]
You admitted to stealing. I'm not sure I can trust you.
"You are all the same! Savages, all of you!
I should have known better than to trust a member of the Pact. I'll never make that mistake again!
This is between the two of you. Leave me out of this. [Advances the quest.]
Calm down. Tell me how you became a slave.

"I … I don't know how to thank you. And I'm so sorry I insulted you.
Truly, I'll never forget your kindness!"
You'd best get going. I'll make sure she doesn't follow.
"I can use Aldyna's own belongings to buy my freedom. Freedom … I can hardly believe it!
Farewell, my friend. I hope we see each other again."

Suriel and Aldyna will confront one another after the choice is made. The conversation differs depending on what you chose to do.

If you let Suriel go free:

Aldyna: "So, you've found yourself a champion, eh Suriel?"
Aldyna: "Know this. If I see you again, we will not part under such … amicable terms."

If you gave Suriel the money to buy her freedom:

Suriel: "I'm not going back with you. That life is over."
Suriel: "Here—take this. Consider yourself fully paid. By your own laws, I'm a free woman."

Suriel returned to her mistress

If you let Aldyna take Suriel and speak with her again before handing in the quest:

"Leave me alone. I have nothing more to say to you."

Once you finish the quest by talking to Aldyna, Suriel will kneel in front of her:

Suriel: "I knew I shouldn't have trusted you!"
Aldyna: "Don't be so dramatic. You've bread and shelter here, which is more than you had in High Rock."
Suriel: "Oh, father. How could you do this to me?"

Speaking with her if you intimidated Aldyna into letting Suriel go free:

"She's going to let me go, just like that?"
You should leave before she changes her mind.
"I must get as far away from here as possible before Aldyna captures me again.
Perhaps I'll stow away on a merchant's ship. I doubt anyone else would show me such kindness. Goodbye. And thank you."

Speaking with her again after the quest:

"I thought the Pact was full of people like Aldyna. I'm glad you proved me wrong. I won't forget your mercy, friend."

  • If you return Suriel to Aldya, she will continue to have the follower indicator displayed above her head. Same is true if you intimidate Aldya to free Suriel. ?
