Mettle and StoneEdit

Outside the cave, you'll find a fretting dunmer:

Selveni Andalor: "The Tribunal, my grandmother, and the hero of Mournhold are counting on me. So why am I pacing out here like a flat-head?"

Speak to him:

"You're a s'wit, Selveni.
You just have to power magic rocks made by a Living God. Find some spirits. Free them. Oh, and leave the False Martyrs' Folly without dying painfully. It'll be fun!"
Are you talking to yourself?
"Ah … yes. I do that. I wasn't expecting anyone—oh!
Lord Sotha Sil, I'm doing what the Tribunal asked. I have the three Mother Stones and I know where the energy fonts are. I'll free the spirits from the False Martyrs' Folly, I swear!"
I think you have me confused with someone else.
"No? Oh, you're in disguise. I'm glad you're here. Saving Ordinator Nilera and Grandmother—Priest Sovisa's—spirits from Mehrunes Dagon? I can't do that alone!
But I can give you tribute, um, payment? For the help of an … adventurer."
I'll help you free Ordinator Nilera and Priest Sovisa from the False Martyrs' Folly.
"Thank the three! I have the Mother Stones I got from Almalexia's priest—though we do still need to attune them with the energy fonts inside. But, with your help, we'll free Nilera and Sovisa's spirits in no time!
Now, to enter the Folly …."
What happened to Ordinator Nilera and Priest Sovisa?
"Is this a test? Are you checking if I know who I'll use the Mother Stones on?
They both died years ago. They protected the Temple from Mehrunes Dagon when he decimated Mournhold. I was there, hiding under a table. That was a day I won't forget."
I didn't hear about Mehrunes Dagon attacking Mournhold a few years ago. / What did you mean when you said that Dagon attacked Mournhold a few years ago?
"The decimation of Mournhold? In 2920? The end of the first era? My lord, is there something terribly wrong with you? You—you were there. How could you forget?"
Selveni, that was nearly six-hundred years ago.
"Six-hundred ….
No, this is a test. Almalexia's priest gave me the Mother Stones only a few weeks ago! I know how long I have been standing outside the Folly. Mehrunes Dagon's realm can't hold me captive. Not like the spirits I need to save."
What more can you tell me about Ordinator Nilera and Priest Sovisa?
"They were both incredible women. Heroes in their own right who stood in the face of a great threat. I … I really look up to them both. I mean, one is possibly the greatest Ordinator to ever serve the Tribunal. And the other is my grandmother!"
How did Nilera die? / And how did Nilera die?
"She was protecting the Temple from Mehrunes Dagon's attack a few years ago. I remember hearing her call him a Sar-shemand fetcher. It was the most heroic thing I've ever heard.
I cried when her screams stopped."
What's an Ordinator?
"They're the guards of the Tribunal temples. Warriors who serve the Living Gods and protect their houses throughout Morrowind.
I wanted to be one—like Ordinator Nilera was. But, I'm not a fighter. I've … seen my life's share of blood."
How did Priest Sovisa die? / And how did Priest Sovisa die?
"We were visiting her at the Temple on the day of the attack a few years ago. When Nilera died, Sovisa rushed outside to take up her sword. She wasn't a warrior, but she managed to keep the horde from reaching the doors.
I never got to say goodbye."
Why did Mehrunes Dagon trap them in the Folly?
"Maybe to gloat over them or use them as a warning to others. I'm not sure which.
Either way, an entire garden filled with living statues of people I knew? That makes my skin crawl."
How are the False Martyrs trapped?
"All I know is that most of the statues here are from the time when Dagon attacked Mournhold. They're just on display here. The fallen. On display. For all Daedra to see. Oh … I might lose my nerve again."
What are the Mother Stones? / You said the Mother Stones would free the spirits? / How will the Mother Stones free the spirits from the statues?
"You might have missed the explanation. You are busy.
I got the Mother Stones from a Priest of Almalexia. She said that the Lady of Mercy created them. Once we attune them to the energy of the Sever, these stones will take her children home."
Why do the Mother Stones need to be attuned to the Sever?
"They won't work properly unless they're attuned.
Right now, the stones couldn't return me to Morrowind. They need a lot of power to save Ordinator Nilera and Grandmother Sovisa. I mean, they're both dead and they've been trapped here for years."
How do the Mother Stones get attuned?
"I asked about that in Wretched Spire. There are these energy fonts that should be just the things we need.
No one in Wretched Spire could really tell me where the fonts were, but given their name, I think they won't be too hard to find."
What makes you say that?
"Well, have you looked into the Folly? Lightning strikes happen all the time! Maybe I'm wrong, but I've always seen lightning strike the most in areas of high energy.
If we follow the storms, we should find the fonts. I hope."

Enter the Folly and he'll follow:

Selveni Andalor: "All right Selveni, if you were an Energy Font, where would you be? The northwest? There are a lot of storms there."

Speak to him again:

"You made it! I was only a little worried that you'd disappear and make me face the Folly alone.
Right. Are you ready to head for the energy fonts? They're probably where the lightning is striking the most. I'd say over in that direction."
Selveni Andalor: "The air changed, like the storm is about to get worse. We're close!"

At the first energy font:

Selveni Andalor: "That was a marvelous display of power Sotha Sil! Only two more stones to attune."

Speaking to him after attuning one stone:

"That's one stone attuned. There's still more to do before we can move on from finding these energy fonts. I hope we can make our way to next one quickly."

The second:

Selveni Andalor: "That's it! Only one energy font left to find!"

At the last font:

Selveni Andalor: "Now that that's done … um … my lord, can I have a word?"
"I don't want to tell you what to do, but please be careful with those stones. They look … erratic.
You may be the Magician. But for someone like me, holding onto erratic power seems unwise?"
We attuned the Mother Stones, what next?
"Next we need to … think Selveni think ….
We need to find the statues. There should be an altar in here that's used to locate statues in the Folly."
Where is the altar?
"I, uh, kind of had to figure that out on my own since an acolyte of Lord Vivec was called away before he could tell me.
But, I ran into someone familiar with this area in Wretched Spire. The altar is farther in the Folly. In a Daedric building."
Why do you keep calling me Sotha Sil?
"Oh, right. You're in disguise. Sorry!
Your disguise isn't bad. In fact it's flawless. You look nothing like yourself. But, no one else knew I was here. So when you appeared, I could just tell who you were. I hope that's all right."
You're not going to stop, are you?
"Why would I do that? Not respect you with your titles and name? I was raised by a Priest of the Temple! Even if I wanted to, I couldn't anger Grandmother Sovisa like that."

Speaking to him again:

"Selveni, don't lose your head. All you need to do is go on a nice stroll through a monster infested fiery plane looking for an altar. It'll be fine."
Why do we need to find an altar?
"What? Oh, we'll use it to find the statues of Ordinator Nilera and Grandmother Sovisa. From what I heard in Wretched Spire, the altar is a sort of dowsing rod. It helps Daedra find the statues they want to sneer at.
The Folly is very popular."
All right, is there anything you need to do before we place the Mother Stones?
"I hope not. The altar probably needs energy to work properly. So, we just place the stones and then pray to Mehrunes Dagon I guess.
You…may want to stand back after you place the stones."

Enter the Divination Chamber:

Selveni Andalor: "The altar! Place the Mother Stones there and we'll be able to locate the statues. Somehow."

Place the stone at the altar:

Selveni Andalor: "Now we have to praise Mehrunes Dagon? I … should probably do that. Spare you the embarrassment."
Selveni Andalor: "Ahem. Lord Dagon? Help us find Nilera and Sovisa so that we can do … evil."
Selveni Andalor: "Ah! The stone!"

Speak to him:

"I don't know what went wrong. I started praying to Mehrunes Dagon and then—the Tribunal, you, my family. I've brought shame to everyone!
We only have two stones now. We need three."
What happened?
"I don't know! We put the stones on the altar and then I prayed and a stone just exploded!
Is Almalexia's power not compatible with the altar? Did Dagon figure out I'm not an evil cultist? Am I terrible at praying?"
Do you know where the statues are?
"Oh, yes. Here, let me mark the location for you. I … may have obliterated one of the stones, but at least we have the information we need."
So what do we do with the Mother Stones now that one's broken?
"Originally, there were three stones. One to free Ordinator Nilera. One to free Grandmother Sovisa. And the last one was supposed to take me back to Mournhold.
Without that third stone, someone has to stay here—Sovisa, Nilera. Or … me."
Tell me more about Ordinator Nilera.
"Ordinator Nilera was the glaive of the Tribunal. And after Mehrunes Dagon's attack … well, I don't know anyone who'd say she wasn't the greatest Ordinator ever.
Freeing her spirit from this … place, would bring peace to many."
Tell me about Priest Sovisa.
"Sovisa was … my grandmother. She was kind and smart. The sort of person who always pushed you toward compassion.
She was a priest at the Temple, not a warrior. But she saved so many from Mehrunes Dagon's horde when they attacked Mournhold."
Would you stay behind, to free both Nilera and Sovisa?
"I can't believe …. Is that what you—what the Tribunal wants from me?
Maybe it's better than letting two spirits stay in eternal agony. But, Sotha Sil? I don't know if I can do that. Not even for Ordinator Nilera and Grandmother Sovisa."
Now that we know where the statues are, what is the next step?
"All right. Uh, would you … grab the Mother Stones? I don't think I should touch them anymore."
I'll pick up the remaining Mother Stones.

Speaking to him again:

"My lord, please take the remaining Mother Stones from the altar. We'll need them when we find the statues, and I'm clearly not meant to touch them."

Take the stones and he'll head out of the chamber:

Selveni Andalor: "All right. I have some control over my emotions. Let's get moving."

Try to speak to him and he'll still be absorbed in his own emotions:

"Selveni, you're grown now, you can handle disappointment. Find the statues and don't cry in front of Sotha Sil."

Reach the statues:

Selveni Andalor: "Here! I'd recognize their faces anywhere! Sotha Sil? May I have a word?"

Speaking to him before making a decision:

"Well … here we are. Can't put it off any longer. Time to make the difficult decision.
Gods, I can't really damn myself to save them. Can I? But then, how can I leave one of them here?"
So we can only free one spirit?
"Or—or we could free both, but then I'd be trapped. If I was better at magic, or even understood what Almalexia's Mother Stones did then ….
But no. There is no way to free both spirits and ensure my escape. I'm a failure."
What if we used both stones to free Nilera and Sovisa?
"They'd leave their tortured undeath at the hands of the Prince of Chaos. But … I'd be stuck here. Alone.
Still, I guess the spirits would be free and I'd have done my duty to them and the Tribunal. Is that what you want me to do?"
What if we used the stones to free one of the spirits? You still need to get back.
"Free just one of them? How could I even begin to make the decision between the two? I'd be saving one and dooming the other to an eternity of torture at the hands of Mehrunes Dagon!
Wait, would you make the decision?"

Free both spiritsEdit

[Persuade] We should use the stones to free both spirits.
"I—I—you're right. Ordinator Nilera and grandmother Sovisa would never leave the helpless to suffer.
I can do this. Let's free them. Quickly."
Tell me more about Ordinator Nilera and Priestess Sovisa.
"They are heroes in Mournhold. They protected the innocent. Stood up for those who couldn't do it themselves. Fought a gigantic, four-armed Prince of Destruction. Sacrificed their lives for others.
I can't live up to them!"
Who said you had to live up to their example? / Who said you had to live up to Ordinator Nilera and Priestess Sovisa's example.
"Grandmother Sovisa died protecting me. Ordinator Nilera fought Mehrunes Dagon himself, to keep me safe. The Tribunal—yourself included— sent me here to save their spirits!
But I am nothing like Sovisa and Nilera!"
But you're still going to save them.
"I—I am, aren't I? Are you saying that maybe it won't be that bad?
I guess I have done a lot of things that I never thought I'd be able to do. Travel through the Deadlands. Go on a quest with a Living God. I can handle a little more time here."
What did Ordinator Nilera do?
"Ordinator Nilera? She defended the Temple in Mournhold when Mehrunes Dagon attacked the city. I remember hearing the sounds of her battle.
Many in Mournhold revere her as the greatest Ordinator to ever serve the Tribunal."
What did Priestess Sovisa do?
"My grandmother served the Temple. When Ordinator Nilera died fighting Mehrunes Dagon, she rushed outside and picked up Nilera's sword.
She—she wasn't very good at fighting. But she managed to hold the hoard back until you and Almalexia arrived."

Approach Sovisa's statue:

Selveni Andalor: "Grandmother Sovisa … she still looks the same as she did when I was a child. I can't leave her!"

Approach Nilera's statue:

Selveni Andalor: "Ordinator Nilera. I feel more hopeful even now. Is that the sort of effect freeing her will have on everyone in Mournhold?"

With both spirits free, he'll remark:

Selveni Andalor: "Our work is done here. Let's leave before something horrible happens. I'll meet you outside!"

Meet up with him outside the Folly and he'll greet you:

"We—we did it! They're free! I can't believe this. After Mehrunes Dagon cut them both down outside the Temple and then trapped them in the Sever—unable to move on—it was too long. Thank the Three. And you! Especially you, Magician!"
So both Ordinator Nilera and Priest Sovisa are free?
"As far as I can tell, the Mother Stones worked. They worked, the spirits are free, and we're alive! I know that last bit was mostly your doing.
Here. I can't say when I'll make it to Mournhold. This is all I can give to the Tribunal now."

After the quest:

"All right Selveni. Now you just have find a way off this plane. With its lightning strikes, monsters, and murderous, blood-thirsty Daedra.
No. Be positive. You saved two spirits from the heart of the Deadlands. You're a hero."
What are you going to do now?
"I'll make my way back to Mournhold. I'll only tell everyone as much as you want me to, of course!
Sotha Sil, I'm honestly still a little scared about how things turned out here. But I know I can push through that, thanks to you."
How will you get back to Mournhold?
"I … don't know yet. I saw other mortals when I was in Wretched Spire, so there has to be other ways into this realm. I suppose I'll have to ask someone who's made the journey or find my own way back to Tamriel. It shouldn't be too hard. Right?"
You seem very hopeful.
"It's either that or get so scared that I can't move forward. Again.
I refuse to mourn the loss of my way home. So I won't. I just have to focus on making it back to Mournhold and stop being the s'wit that I am."
So you're definitely going back to Mournhold?
"B'vek yes! I don't want to be here any longer than I have to. Did you see that six-legged creature back there? That thing was terrifying! I am leaving this realm as soon as I can."

Free one spiritEdit

We should free one spirit and use the other stone to get you back to Nirn.
"How can I decide who should be free? The woman who died after a lifetime of service to the Tribunal or the one who knew she would die but still did what was right? Nilera or my grandmother?
Sotha Sil, free the spirit you choose, I won't stop you."
Tell me more about Ordinator Nilera.
"Ordinator Nilera? She defended the Temple in Mournhold when Mehrunes Dagon attacked the city. I remember hearing the sounds of her battle.
Many in Mournhold revere her as the greatest Ordinator to ever serve the Tribunal."
You heard Ordinator Nilera fight Dagon?
"Oh, yes. I was—I was hiding in the temple while Mournhold burned.
Ordinator Nilera was standing on the steps outside with her shoulders back and her head held high. It was a striking sight for the short time I saw it."
What will happen if you don't free Ordinator Nilera's spirit?
"Didn't you hear me? Everyone thinks Ordinator Nilera was the greatest Ordinator to ever live? Not saving her? I'd fail in my mission. You—the other members of the Tribunal would despise me. Everyone in Mournhold would shun me!
It would be awful!"
What is an Ordinator?
""Is this a test? All ... right. Ordinators are priest-warriors. They protect the temples of the Tribunal throughout Morrowind, including the great temple in Mournhold. It's their job to serve you and the rest of the Tribunal.
Tell me more about your grandmother, Sovisa.
"She was a priest at the temple. When Ordinator Nilera died fighting Mehrunes Dagon, she rushed outside and picked up Nilera's sword.
She—she wasn't very good at fighting. But she managed to hold the horde back until you and Almalexia arrived."
What will happen if you don't save your grandmother's spirit?
"My family would shun me. My ancestors would desert me!
And not just Grandmother Sovisa, all of them could leave me. That may not seem like much, but being out of favor with your own ancestors? I could lose everything!"

Against All HopeEdit

If you helped Selveni during Mettle and Stone, return to Fargrave after defeating Nokvroz and seemingly all of Fargrave has turned out to celebrate your victory. Seveni will simply say:

"Oh! Lord Sotha Sil, I didn't expect to see you here."

Hope Springs EternalEdit

Join the celebration at Leyawiin Castle:

"L—Lord Sotha Sil! Look! I've made it back to Tamriel! I wasn't killed in the Folly, eaten by horrific monsters with far too many teeth, or lost between realms!
Selveni, you're an s'wit. Stop making a ruckus. You're ruining Seht's disguise."
How did you get here?
"There was a caravan moving through the Sever. We ended up in a city called, um, Fargrave. A group known as the Saraathu tong helped me get back to Tamriel from there.
I said that you'd helped me in the Folly, I hope that was all right."
But why are you in Leyawiin?
"Oh! I, uh. Selveni, of course Sotha Sil wants to know what you're doing here.
My lord, I was there when you saved Mournhold from Mehrunes Dagon. After I heard that you'd defeated him again, I wanted to congratulate you in person."
Selveni, I'm not Sotha Sil.
"Oh, yes. I know. Obviously you're not the Magician. How could you be?
But, in the event that you are, your secret's safe with me. I promise."
Selveni? How did you get to Fargrave?
"A very kind Nord woman in Wretched Spire said that there was a group here who could help me. I've been trying to find them, but I don't have much coin—
Oh, I'm sorry. But then I heard you defeated Dagon? Again?"
You're still confusing me with Sotha Sil?
"I'm not confused—right. Right. You're in disguise too!
I'll keep your secret here. I won't tell a soul, not even the Saraathu Tong when I find them. Your secret is safe with me, Magician."

After Eveli gives her speech:

"You, the Magician, defeated Mehrunes Dagon! Again! This is incredible.
I—I need some mead."
