After finding the cave entrance, you will find Scout Kanat lying mortally wounded:
- "Those nix-hounds won't take me! Won't make me into a husk.
Bled myself with my own blade. No use to them now. That'll show them." - Hang on. Open your eyes. Come on, now.
- "I ... what was I saying?
Did Scout Mamyne send you? I was glad she got away. The others ... they're all gone."

If you haven't started the quest, he will say:
- "You don't look like a Maulborn."
In his dying moments, he will tell you to destroy the wards that keep the Maulborn from being infected from the Llodos plague:

He will tell you to go deeper in the caves to find the wards:
- "Those wards keep the Maulborn from getting infected by their plague.

When you return from the shutting down the wards, Kanat will have passed.
