The Toothmaul PloyEdit
When you enter Toothmaul Gully, you will find Nelanya holding a blade to Pirondil:
- Pirondil: "Easy, just put the sword down."
- Nelanya: "Quiet! How many more of you are there?"'
- Pirondil: "You're Veiled Heritance, aren't you? I should ask you the same thing."
After she hears you approaching, she will run off, allowing you to talk to Pirondil. You may hear him mutter:
- "I almost ended up with a few extra holes there."
Checking up on him:
- "Good timing. You saved my neck, whether you meant to or not."
- What's going on here?
- "I'm called Pirondil, an investigator for the First Auridon Marines. I spotted a Goblin sneaking into this cave … it was wearing Elven armor.
I followed it, but I was ambushed by that woman." - You think she has something to do with the Goblins?
- "Maybe, but I prefer facts to speculation. I don't know who she is or why she is in a Goblin cave, but I'm not prepared to go in there alone.
You willing to help the investigation? I'm going to set up a signal fire outside." - Sure, I can help out. I'll see what I can find.
You have to opportunity to ask him some questions.
- "Watch your back in here. The goblins are well-armed for their breed"
- I have a few questions.
- "All good investigators always have questions to ask. What did you want to know?"
- What is this place?
- "These caves were an uninhabited gully last I knew. Merchants sometimes used it as a waystation to dump illicit cargo before checkpoints, but no one ever laid claim to it.
It seems like the Goblins found a troubling new use for the place."

- What kind of threat do Goblins pose?
- "The easy answer for the Mer is to say, "None," but that goes beyond hubris—it is plain foolishness. Goblins are extremely difficult to root out.
This batch may be some escaped slaves from the mainland. It's not unheard of."

While in the Gully, you will make a deal with Byz to be allowed to talk with the chief about the contract. Once you have the document you will find Pirondil threatening Byz outside the Chief's Chamber.
- Pirondil: "If you so much as squawk, I will fill you full of arrows."
Talk with him to show him the contract.
- "Good, you're here. I found this little runt snooping about. I was just about to put him out of his misery."
- Stop. The Goblin directed me to find a contract. You'll want to look at this.
- "Let me see that.
This doesn't even make sense. I can't think of a court in the land that would take this seriously. The wording isn't even in the Goblins' favor. They think this is going to buy them some kind of status?" - The Goblins probably don't know that.
- "Make no mistake, they are still Goblins. Still, if we can break up the alliance here and now, it will save us much grief."
- Maybe the chief can be reasoned with. Byz here can let him know I come in peace.
- "Magnanimous of you. I'll leave you to it then, and go to see if the signal fire brought in any backup.
Break up this alliance and find this Nelanya person. See if she likes being threatened with sharp objects." - I'll find you at the entrance once I've dealt with the situation.
Pirondil will then sneak away to the entrance. You can speak to him again:
- "Good luck in there. Let's hope he sees reason."
After you have negotiated with the chief and confronted Nelanya, Pirondil will be at the entrance with Auridon Marine reinforcements.
- "Reinforcements at last! How did you do?"
Your response will depend on what you decided to do to Nelanya.
- The bargain with the Toothmaul tribe is void. Nelanya was driven off. (Nelanya Spared)
- "Driven off?" You mean she's not dead? I hope you know what you're doing.
We'll oversee the Goblins from here. Their continued cooperation will ensure that they are spared."
- Nelanya is dead, and the bargain with the Toothmaul tribe is void. (Nelanya Killed)
- "Excellent work, I knew I could count on you.
With the reinforcements here, we can see to the Goblins as peacefully as we can. There will be restrictions, of course, but their willingness to stay out of the fighting may well save them."
If you talk to him afterwards:
- "We'll take charge from here. With any luck, we can relocate Koth and his tribe somewhere that they don't cause any more trouble. If not, well ….
Goblins should remember their place."
Deprecated ContentEdit
In the earlier versions of the game, there was the option for Pirondil to kill Byz and for you to kill Chief Koth. This choice was considered the aggressive route:
- Not worth negotiating. I'll kill the goblin chief and disperse their tribe, then deal with Nelanya.
- "It's grim business, but goblins can't be trusted. I'm going to see if the signal fire brought any reinforcements. Good luck against the chief and Nelanya, if you can find her.
I'll deal with this runt." - I'll find you at the entrance once I've dealt with the situation.
Pirondil will draw out his bow and kill Byz:
- Pirondil: "One less goblin to deal with."
After you killed Koth and dealt with Nelanya, he will wait near the entrance:
If you killed both Koth and Nelanya:
- "Messy business, this is; never seems to be a job where there aren't bodies stacked high, these days. You're back, so may I assume Nelanya is one of them?"
- It's done. Both Nelanya and the goblin chief are dead.
- "Not a tough choice, I imagine. Even those rare goblins capable of speaking are little more than animals.
We'll take it from here. The Toothmaul won't be helping the Veiled Heritance any time soon."
