Sai Sahan is a Redguard noble martial artist and master swordsman. A member of the Five Companions, he was the leader of the Imperial Dragonguard and harbors feelings towards Lyris Titanborn, whom he calls Snow Lily. He was imprisoned in the Halls of Torment by Molag Bal in an attempt to find out where he hid the Amulet of Kings, and you will need to rescue him. He will thereafter regroup with his fellow companions in The Harborage, reuniting them at last.

He returns in Dragonhold.

Main QuestEdit

The HarborageEdit

Sai is helpless to watch as Mannimarco betrays the Emperor

In flashback visions, Sai Sahan can be seen facing Lyris Titanborn as they stand in front of Varen's table in a tableau state. Later on, he will appear in a vision showing what led up to the Soulburst:

Varen Aquilarios: "There it is. The Dragonfire brazier. Mannimarco, you're certain this will work?"
Mannimarco: "It will work, my liege. The Amulet of Kings will rekindle the Dragonfires, and ensure your rightful place as Emperor. You have my word."
Lyris Titanborn: "It better work, Mannimarco, or you'll find your neck at the business end of my axe."
Abnur Tharn: "My Lord, I wonder if you'd muzzle your half-giant pet? She really is annoying."
Sai Sahan: "Enough, both of you! We are here to ensure My Lord's rightful claim to the Ruby Throne."
Varen Aquilarios: "Abnur, begin the ritual. I have a destiny to fulfill." [The Dragonfire lights up]
Varen Aquilarios: "By the lighting of the Dragonfires, I claim my rightful lineage! By the fires of creation, let me be reborn! By the will of Akatosh, I proclaim myself ... Dragonborn!"
Mannimarco: "Varen Aquilarios, you are no heir to Alessia! You will pay for your sacrilege! The veil between Tamriel and Oblivion tears and splits asunder!"
Abnur Tharn: "What's happening? The sky is opening up! This is bad! This is very bad!"
Varen Aquilarios: "This isn't supposed to happen! What's the meaning of this? Mannimarco, what have you done?"
Mannimarco: "Gullible fools! The veil between Oblivion and this world has been torn! My master, Molag Bal, is free to claim Tamriel for his own!"
Varen Aquilarios: "Akatosh! Forgive me! Have mercy on our souls!"

Mannimarco levitates above the brazier and immobilizes Varen and soon the other three companions, using the power of the ritual to tear open a veil between two worlds, causing the Soulburst. The vision then fades out.

Daughter of GiantsEdit

You first see Sai in a projection while rescuing Lyris:

Lyris Titanborn: "Sai! What's happened to you? What have they done?"
Sai Sahan: "Lyris! Lyris, I can see you! Are you really there?"
Lyris Titanborn: "Sai, it's me! We're seeing some kind of vision of you. Do you know where you are?"
Sai Sahan: "I... I don't know. They're torturing me. They... want the Amulet of Kings. Want me to tell them where it's hidden. But I haven't broken. Not yet."
Lyris Titanborn: "We'll find you! Somehow, we'll get you out of there! Sai? Sai! No! Bring him back, you bastards!"

The Tharn SpeaksEdit

Inside the dungeon Abnur Tharn sends you to, you'll find a speaking stone next to a copy of The Unbreakable Redguard. Activate the box and you'll hear:

Sai Sahan: "You will not break me, King of Worms!"
Mannimarco: "I can, and I shall! Where is the Amulet of Kings?"
Sai Sahan: "You cannot break the will of a son of Yokuda! I spit on you!"

Halls of TormentEdit

Sai Sahan in the Halls of Torment

As you near his location, you'll hear the Duchess of Anguish trying to learn the location of the Amulet of Kings:

Duchess of Anguish : "Where is the Amulet of Kings? This can all be over if you just tell me. You can finally rest. You'd like that, wouldn't you, Sai?"
Sai Sahan: "Have I been here two years, or two thousand years? I can no longer tell. But I will never break! Never!"

Meeting Sai in person for the first time:

"I do not know you. Why are you here? Who sent you?"
Varen sent me. I'm a friend.
"The Emperor? He lives? This day is filled with wonders."
Did they force you to reveal the location of the Amulet of Kings?
"They tortured me for many months―years, perhaps―but I did not break my vow. The amulet is hidden, and safe."
Can you walk? We need to get out of here.
"My strength is returning. Lead on."

After his rescue back at The Harborage before you speak to Varen, he'll say:

"It is bad luck to owe a life debt to a stranger, so I have decided that you are my friend. Know that my people do not take such things lightly. If by life or death I can serve you, I will do so without hesitation."

After you speak to Varen:

"I owe you my life. My Lord calls you Vestige? A strange name. Is it true your soul was taken from you?"
Yes, it's true.
"Stranger still. My people say that bravery and honor are the hallmarks of a great soul, yet you have both of those things in great measure.
I had begun to think that honor was a relic of the past. You give me hope."
How are you feeling?
"I cannot say. Physically, I am unharmed. But mentally …?
I feel a darkness in my heart. A weight on my soul. I do not know how long this emptiness will remain."
How do we get the Amulet of Kings?
"I hid the Amulet in a sacred catacomb, protected by magical wards. The means of lifting these wards are in the keeping of my old mentor, Kasura.
As soon as I am able, we must meet with her."
We will, as soon as you're well. You should rest, now.
"I will try to rest, but I am a warrior. We cannot sit still for very long.
And I should certainly bathe before we meet with Kasura. I am unpleasantly fragrant, and if she happened to be downwind of me, I would never hear the end of it."
As you say, Sai.
"The path ahead of us is a dark one, but it pleases me to know that I shall walk that path with friends. May we all rest a little easier tonight. I know I shall."

If you spoke to him and exit out of the conversation before turning the quest, he will say:

"We will meet with Kasura as soon as I am well enough to travel."
As you say, Sai. (Same quest completion dialogue)

If you speak to him again before leaving he'll say:

"My wounds are superficial. They will heal in time. But the debt I owe you will never be erased. I am honored to call you friend."

If you left the Harborage and come back before the next quest starts, he will say:

"Come to see how I'm doing? Don't worry—I'll recover. Really, I'm just happy to have cleaned up a bit."

Valley of BladesEdit

Sai Sahan in the Valley of Blades

In the Harborage:

"Honor and faith to you, my friend. We are nearly ready to depart. My Lord Varen requested that Tharn and Snow Lily join us, for safety's sake, though I have seen fewer places as tranquil as the Valley of Blades."
Why do we need to go to the Valley of Blades?
"An old friend, Kasura, dwells there. Before I was captured I placed an enchanted ring in her keeping.
The ring is a key of sorts. Without it, we will not be able to open the secret chamber where the Amulet of Kings lies hidden."
Tell me about Kasura.
"She was my first mentor and instructor, a true master of blades. She still trains young swordsmen in the valley. Those she deems worthy of her instruction."
What does she teach?
"Swordsmanship, but much more than that. Her teachings revolve around a trinity of body, blade, and brilliance. The sword-singers of old were said to be masters of all three.
Look, there will be time for questions later. Are you ready to depart?"
I'm ready to travel to the Valley of the Blades./Yes, I'm ready. (Ends the conversation and Varen will open the portal)

At the Valley, you can speak to Sai.

"Do you smell the scent of burning embers in the air? We may be in for a treat if Kasura is teaching the firewalk!"
Do all Redguard swordsmen shave their heads?
"It is tradition for Redguard men to shave their heads following a time of great trials. I shaved mine long ago, when I failed in the task to restore the lost tradition of the sword-singers.
Also, long hair gets in the way during battle."
But you didn't shave your beard.
"There is an old Redguard proverb. A man is only as great as the beard that wears him.
A full and healthy beard carries with it a sense of great honor and wisdom. Also crumbs."
Couldn't it be grabbed in battle?
"Oh, a few have tried, but a fool and his fingers are quickly parted."
Which way are we heading? (Advances quest)
"The abbey is just down the path.
We're fortunate that my Lord Varen opened a portal for us. This landslide appears to have blocked the valley's only approach."
What could have caused it?
"I cannot say. I've never known these mountains to experience earthquakes. Strange."
Let's go

As you walk through the valley, your three companions will engage in conversation.

Sai Sahan: "It is strange to return to these mountains. Memories of youth flood my mind, each one bringing its own sorrow, or its own smile."
Abnur Tharn: "Oh, joy. We've been here less than five minutes and Sahan is already getting maudlin and weepy."
Lyris Titanborn: "Shut up, Tharn! Don't let him get to you, Sai. Let him roll his yes. Maybe he'll find a brain back there."
Sai Sahan: "Kasura often said that rudeness is a weak man's imitation of strength. She is wise beyond her years. You will like her, Snow Lily."

If you speak to him again, he says:

"We should get to the abbey. Kasura and I have much to discuss."

When you arrive at the Abbey, you will find it on fire.

Sai Sahan: "What is this? The abbey burns!"
Lyris Titanborn: "So much destruction! What could have done this?"
Abnur Tharn: "I'm afraid I've seen this before. Keep an eye skyward, Titanborn!"

After you find the injured Kasura.

Sai Sahan: "Kasura! There!"
<He runs to her side.>
Sai Sahan: "Kasura! Are you injured? What happened?"
Kasura: "Sai Sahan! Intruders … cultists … they attacked the abbey. So many of my students have fallen …."
Sai Sahan: "The abbey is in ruins, Kasura! How could they …?"
Kasura: "A gigantic beast … like nothing I've ever seen! The cultists … they're opening rifts to Oblivion!"
Sai Sahan: "Save your strength, Kasura. We will make them pay, I promise you!"
Lyris Titanborn: "What do you think? Trap?"
Abnur Tharn: "It's only a trap if you don't know about it. I assume everything is a trap. Therefore, it's a challenge."

If you talk to him while hunting for sigils:

"They will pay for the innocent lives they have taken!"

If you speak to him after the Titan arrives:

"Watch the tail! I will try to distract it!"

Sai will fight the Titan with his fists, as he lacks a weapon. If you speak to him after defeating the Daedric Titan summoned by Mannimarco, he'll say:

"Kasura is injured. We must help her."

Kasura will lead you to the ring's hiding spot.

Kasura: "Follow me. The hidden entrance will not be obvious."
Lyris Titanborn: "Why would a crypt need a secret entrance?"
Abnur Tharn: "It's a wonder there's an unplundered crypt in all of Skyrim! You Nords could learn a thing or two from the builders of Hammerfell."
Sai Sahan: "Perhaps Hammerfell could also teach Nibenay the virtue of good manners."
Kasura: "Here we are. Watch your step as you descend."

Speak to him before entering the crypt:

"Quickly! To the ancestral crypt!"

Speaking with Sai here:

"I can feel the presence of my ancestors whenever I come here. I am burdened with a great responsibility to honor their sacrifice and uphold their legacy."
Your ancestors are interred here?
"Aye. Along with some of the most renowned sword-singers who ever lived. We must tread carefully and with great respect."
Why did Kasura hide the ring here?
"We both thought it would be well protected in the Valley of Blades. The most gifted young swordmasters of Hammerfell are invited to train with Kasura. The town was bristling with strength and steel before the Titan showed up."
How did Mannimarco find out about this valley?
"I cannot say. Perhaps someone told him of my past. Perhaps he pried the memory from me during my time in the Halls of Torment.
Either way, I am to blame for the valley's destruction. No one I love will be safe until Mannimarco has been dealt with."
We'll stop Mannimarco.
"Then I shall need a proper weapon.
Kasura said that my father's greatsword lies with the ring. It seems proper that I should wield it in his honor."
Let's go.

Speaking to him again:

"The ring, and my father's sword, lie in the back of the crypt. We must hurry."

Within the crypt:

Sai Sahan: "Tread lightly. Few living have been permitted to walk among these honored dead."

If you approach the various statues of his ancestors, Sai will talk to you about them.

Sai Sahan: "Divad Hunding, son of Frandar do Hunding Hel Ansei No Shira, the greatest of the Sword Saints. The hearth of every household in Hammerfell has small alcove containing a copy of his father's greatest work, The Book of Circles."
Sai Sahan: "Ra Abah was a warrior of great renown. He fought alongside Frandar Hunding in the seven great battles against the Armies of Hira, and survived. At the final battle at Hattu Mountain, more than three hundred thousand gave their lives."
Sai Sahan: "The twins of sword and spear, Ra Hasa and Ra Huzar, and their mother, Ansei Satameh the Tigress of Dragonstar."
Sai Sahan: "It seems fitting that the Ring of Stendarr's Mercy lies with my father's greatsword. We will need both for the battles that lay before us."

If you talk to him during this, he will tell you, "The ring, and my father's sword, lie at the back of the crypt. We must hurry."

Sai Sahan: "It seems fitting that the Ring of Stendarr's Mercy lies with my father's greatsword. We will need both for the battles that lay before us."

Sai takes his father's greatsword.

Sai Sahan: "By the sword of my father, Nazir Itaf Sahan, I pledge myself to the destruction of Mannimarco and the liberation of Tamriel from the tyranny of the God of Schemes, Molag Bal!"

If you somehow talk to him afterwards he will comment on the greatsword:

"My father's blade. It's strange to see it again after so many years. I will use it to strike down our enemies, in his name."

After you talk with Kasura, a projection of Mannimarco will appear.

Mannimarco: "I knew you would lead me to the ring, eventually. Give it to me!"
Sai Sahan: "Your presence defiles this place, Mannimarco!"
Mannimarco: "Give me the ring and I might spare your pathetic lives!"
Lyris Titanborn: "We struck down your Titan and we'll strike you down soon enough!"
Mannimarco: "The Titan was a prelude of what's to come if you continue to defy me!"
Abnur Tharn: "Defy you? Your delusions of godhood are laughable, your ignominious corpse-herder!"
Mannimarco: "Very well, then. I'll simply take the ring from your corpses."
Sai Sahan: "Blasphemy! How dare you raise the honored dead to fight your battle!"

If you're able to speak to him before he charges into battle, he will say:

"I'm grateful for your rescue. Time twisted in ways beyond my comprehension and it felt as though my torments would never end."

After defeating Ansei Kalam an Ra Adia:

Sai Sahan: "Hold the line! They must not get the ring!"

After successfully defeating the last of the honored dead:

Sai Sahan: "Rest in peace, honored dead."
Kasura: "I swear on the souls of my ancesters [sic], I will avenge Mannimarco's blasphemy!"

Speaking with Sai after defeating the undead:

"The ring is ours for the time being. Guard it well."
I'll guard it with my life.
"You must return to the Harborage and give it to Lord Varen. It will remain safe in his keeping until it is time to travel to Sancre Tor.
Lyris, Abnur and I will remain here, to help Kasura bury the dead, and tend to the injured."
How will I return?
"Lord Varen has been observing our progress. He will open a portal for you to return.
There it is, at the top of the stairs. Go, quickly!"
I'll tell him what happened.

While you deliver the ring, the trio will stay behind to help the Abbey.

Kasura: "The damage is great, but if you had not arrived when you did, there would be nothing left to rebuild. Be safe in the coming days, my friends. I look forward to your return."
Sai Sahan: "The Abbey of Blades will rise from these ashes. If I survive the dark path we must walk, I will return to help Kasura shape a new generation of blademasters."
Lyris Titanborn: "A noble goal, Sai. Perhaps I'll join you. For now, we should see to the survivors."
Abnur Tharn: "You continue to surprise me, Sahan. And just when I thought I had you figured out."
Sai Sahan: "You can never know me, Tharn. In the Book of Circles, Divad wrote that the greatest warriors suffers his pain in silence, for he knows that an open oven bakes no bread."
Abnur Tharn: "My great grandfather Knavus Tharn put it another way: better to keep your silence and be thought an imbecile, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!"

Before you go into the portal and before he exit out of the tomb:

"Go now. Lord Varen awaits."

If you return to the Harborage immediately after the quest is completed and before the next quest begins, he will be back:

"So much of my past is now a scorched ruin.
It is yet another reason to hate Molag Bal and his twisted minions."

Shadow of Sancre TorEdit

In the Harborage, if you talk to him before Varen he will give you an update on the Valley of Blades.

"Honor and faith to you, my friend. Kasura sends her regards. She is recovering quickly, and reconstruction on the Abbey of Blades has already begun."

After talking with Varen, Sai will brief you on Sancre Tor.

"The time has come for us to enter the catacombs of Sancre Tor. Do not underestimate the dangers that await us.
In ages past, Sancre Tor was a place of light, but I fear that is no longer the case. We must be prepared for anything."
Have you fully recovered from your wounds?
"I have been through much, but this body is tougher than the great oaks of Valenwood. I go with neither hope, nor fear. It is useless to guess at a future that has yet to be written.
You may hope if you wish, my friend. I will not judge."
What's our plan?
"My Lord Varen will open a gateway to Sancre Tor. The amulet lies in a vault protected by powerful magic: a ward of Stendarr, the God of Justice and Mercy.
Also, a God of Well-Earned Luck. I thought this could not hurt."
How do we break the ward?
"The catacombs contain two shrines dedicated to the Divines. We must consecrate them in Stendarr's name. When that is done, the Ring of Stendarr's Mercy should open the vault doors."
Tell me more about Sancre Tor.
"It is written that Alessia received the divine inspiration for her slave rebellion at Sancre Tor, and so, built her holy city there. But that was long ago. The city is a ruin, now.
It has become a dark place, with areas best left undisturbed."
What sort of areas?
"We should avoid the Crypt of Heroes. I saw enough angry dead there to fill nine lifetimes. Kasura and I barely escaped with our lives. We will enter through the inner courtyard and avoid it entirely.
Now, come. Time waits for no man."
Let's go!

Speaking with him after the portal to Sancre Tor opens, but before he walks through it:

"Steel yourself and enter the portal. We will follow."

Once you arrive in Sancre Tor:

"Sancre Tor. Seeing these walls again brings a flood of memories. I do not even know how long it has been. Two years? Three years? Time had no meaning in the Halls of Torment."

Lyris will then question Sai about his dubious choice of hiding places:

Lyris Titanborn: "You could have hidden that amulet anywhere in Tamriel, and this was your first choice?"
Sai Sahan: "It seemed like a good idea at the time."
Abnur Tharn: "Brilliant. Why is it that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the ones who are most certain of them?"
Sai Sahan and Lyris Titanborn, simultaneously: "Shut up, Tharn."

Mannimarco appears:

Mannimarco: "What brings you to Sancre Tor, old friends? Looking for an amulet, perhaps?"
Sai Sahan: "Mannimarco? How did you find this place?"
Mannimarco: "Do you really think I'd allow you to escape the Halls of Torment if I couldn't track your every movement?"
<Sai Sahan is lifted into the air with magic.>
Lyris Titanborn: "Sai, no! Mannimarco, stop! You're killing him!"
Mannimarco: "Where is the Amulet of Kings? My master, Molag Bal, demands it!"
Abnur Tharn: "Your master. Please! You would use the amulet to betray Molag Bal!"
Mannimarco: "Fool! When I ascended, you could have been at my right hand, Tharn. Instead you chose to allign yourself with mongrels and imbeciles. Now you'll die with them!"
Abnur Tharn: "You won't get away with this. Do you really think you can betray a Daedric Prince?"
Mannimarco: "With the Amulet of Kings, all things are possible! Nations will tremble and bow before me! I will be a god!"
Sai Sahan: "The Amulet of Kings will never be yours! It is protected by a ward of the Divines!"
Mannimarco: "You mean your ward of Stendarr, God of Merciful Forbearance, patron of gutless, law-abiding dimwits? It won't even slow me down!"

After listening to Mannimarco's projection you can talk with Sai.

"Mannimarco has been watching our every move. We led him right to the amulet!"
We must reach the Amulet of Kings first.
"Mannimarco may be powerful enough to break through Stendarr's ward eventually. If we can get to the shrines quickly and receive Stendarr's blessing, we can pass through the ward, but leave it in place. He may not be able to follow for some time."
How do we get to the shrines?
"We must make our way to the Inner Courtyard. From there we can access the chambers where the shrines are located."
Let's go.

After you speak to him:

Lyris Titanborn: "Sai, are you well enough to continue?"
Sai Sahan: "Have no fear, Snow Lily. I am Redguard. We are like mountain bamboo: far stronger and more flexible than we might appear."
Abnur Tharn: "I find it hilarious that Mannimarco chose such a massive projected appearance. He's obviously overcompensating for something."

If you talk with him then, he will just say:

"We must keep moving. The Inner Courtyard is just ahead."

When you arrive at the entrance to the Crypt of Heroes:

Sai Sahan: "Through that gate lies the Crypt of Heroes. We can enter, if you wish. But it is a foul place, where the dead are restless and angry."

When you enter Mannimarco's projection will appear again and he will explain his ambitions to replace Molag Bal.

Mannimarco: "Persistent, aren't you? Do you really think you can keep me from acquiring the amulet?"
Sai Sahan: "The Amulet of Kings is under the protection of Stendarr's ward! It will never be yours!"
Mannimarco: "Ah, Sai. You still don't understand, do you? My plan will succeed because of your ward of Stendarr! It will prevent Molag Bal from observing or interfering. By the time the ward is down and the amulet is mine, it will already be too late!"
Lyris Titanborn: "You're insane if you think you can betray the God of Schemes!"
Mannimarco: "Naive child! You know nothing! Chim-el Adabal, the red diamond at the center of the Amulet of Kings, is the most powerful Soul Gem ever created!"
Mannimarco: "With the amulet in my possession, I will absorb Molag Bal's power, reducing him to an empty husk of ethereal flesh. Then I will trap his essence within the gem!"
Mannimarco: "In time, the name Molag Bal will be forgotten! In time, all of Tamriel will bow down before me! Soon, the God of Schemes will have a new name: Mannimarco!"

The projection disappears and a bunch of undead minions attack you.

Sai Sahan: "I do not like Mannimarco as a mortal. I think I will like him even less as a god."

If you talk to him again:

"We are almost at the Inner Courtyard. Make haste!"

Once you reach the Inner Courtyard, Sai will need a break:

Sai Sahan: "Please. A moment, my friends. I … I must rest before we continue."
Lyris Titanborn: "Sai? Are you all right? That bastard really hurt you, didn't he? I swear to the gods I'll take his head off!"
Sai Sahan: "I'll be fine, Snow Lily. I just need a moment to catch my breath."
Lyris Titanborn: "Take all the time you need. I'll keep watch. If there's anything I can do, just name it."
Abnur Tharn: "An enchanting moment. I'll be over here, bringing up my lunch."

Speaking with Sai here:

"Zeht's tears, I thought I could handle this! Mannimarco's sorcery brought back all of the pain and doubt I felt inside the Halls of Torment."
Are you going to be all right?
"I have pushed my body much further than this. It is my mind that pains me. Mannimarco filled my head with shattered memories. They are like broken glass. With every beat of my heart, they stab into me."
Take a moment. Catch your breath.
"That voice … Mannimarco's voice … it taunted me over and over in an endless cycle, for years on end. He never broke my will, but he broke … something."
Will you be able to make it through this, Sai?
"I will make it through this, my friend. I did not endure years of torture in the Halls of Torment, only to give up now!
My pain has subsided. Let us make haste, and finish this."
Where do we go from here?
"We must consecrate the two shrines with Stendarr's blessing before the vault can be opened.
The first shrine rests in the Dragonguard Tomb, where so many of my fallen comrades were interred. We must take care to respect their resting place."
Let's go.

If you speak to him before entering the tomb, he'll say:

"Onward to the Dragonguard Tomb. The first shrine is there, and we must consecrate both before the vault door can be opened."

When you arrive at the Dragonguard Tomb, Mannimarco will have a surprise for Sai Sahan.

Sai Sahan: "The shrine is on the far side of the room. Quickly, we must find our way across!"
Mannimarco: "I've a surprise for you, Sai. Do you remember your fallen comrades from the Dragonguard? I've taken the liberty of raising them, and they're quite anxious to see you."
Sai Sahan: "Again, the King of Worms defiles the memory of the honored dead! I have no wish to disfigure the corpses of my old comrades of the Dragonguard, but we must consecrate the shrine."

If you talk to him:

"The shrine is on the far side of the room. We must be cautious."

Once you start the ritual, Sai Sahan will recite the prayer at the shrine within the Dragonguard Tomb:

Sai Sahan: "Stendarr—God of Mercy, Charity, and Justice—empower us with your wisdom and vision. Help us to right the wrongs of this world through your grace and with your guidance. Encourage us as we smite the wicked and punish the unjust!"
Sai Sahan: "Now, we have only to consecrate the second shrine before we can enter the vault."
Lyris Titanborn: "You certainly did a thorough job hiding the amulet, Sai. Couldn't you have just stuffed it in a mattress or something?"

If you talk to him:

"We have one more shrine to consecrate. Onward!"

Before entering the Reman Tomb, Sai Sahan will mention the puzzle.

Sai Sahan: "The second shrine is in the chamber beyond. There is a trick to reaching it, a puzzle of sorts, but I do not recall its solution."

Once inside he'll say:

Sai Sahan: "The altar is on the far side, but to reach it, the drawbridge must be lowered."

Speak to him before lowering the bridge and he'll tell you:

"The shrine is on the other side of the chasm. We must find a way across."
Can we lower the drawbridge?
"The drawbridge is controlled by those levers. There is a pattern to it. All the levers must face the same way for the bridge to open. But which way? Forgive me, I am just not certain. The Halls of Torment took a great toll upon my memory."
We'll figure it out.
"I seem to recall that using one will cause the adjacent levers to switch their positions. Perhaps that will be of some help."

Praying at the Reman Tomb shrine:

Sai Sahan: "Stendarr, God of Mercy, Charity and Justice, by your grace and through these consecrations, we beseech you to lower your wards and grant us safe passage into the Vault of Kings."

As you head towards the Vault Antechamber you will listen to an enchanting conversation:

Abnur Tharn: "Dank corridors, crumbling walls, nauseating smells. This place has all the charm of a Riften brothel. It must feel very much like home to you, Titanborn."
Lyris Titanborn: "You mean a crypt filled with the rotting corpses of inbred kings and failed statesmen. Must be what it's like at a Tharn family reunion."
Sai Sahan: "It is more pleasant in the summer months."

If you talk with him, he will mention that you are near the door.

"We have received the blessings of Stendarr. The door to the Vault of Kings is the only thing that stands between us and the amulet!"

Unfortunately a projection of Mannimarco will interrupt.

Mannimarco: "Your pathetic efforts will not succeed! The Amulet of Kings will be mine!"
Sai Sahan: "I swear by Stendarr's grace and the sword of my father, you will not win, Mannimarco!"
Mannimarco: "Soon, you will know the extent of my power and bow before me!"
Mannimarco: "Through the power of the Amulet of Kings, I will be transformed!"
<Ghostly figures of the various national leaders will appear in a circle surrounding you.>
Mannimarco: "All the nations of Tamriel will bow before me! They will worship me and beg for my mercy! All will know the name of Mannimarco as their one, true god!"
Lyris Titanborn: "You'll never get away with it, Mannimarco! We'll fight you to our last breath!"
Mannimarco: "By all means, my old friends. Try and stop me!"

If you speak to him while in battle, he'll say:

"Send these abominations back to their graves!"

Speaking to him before entering the vault, he'll say:

"There is no time. The amulet! Get to the amulet!"

Once you reach the warded door, you can ask Sai Sahan what to do.

"There it is. The door to the Vault of Kings."
What do I need to do?
"The shrines have been consecrated in Stendarr's name. Now, you must use the Ring of Stendarr's Mercy to open the vault doors!"
How?
"Stand in the casting circle and direct the ring at the doors to lift the ward. The doors should open wide!"
I'm ready.

After giving instructions, he'll remark:

"You have done it! Open the vault door, Vestige!"

Having opened the Vault door:

Sai Sahan: "Look! The Amulet! I can see it from here!"

If you speak to him after you enter the vault, but before engaging Mannimarco in battle, he says:

"This is no projection. It is Mannimarco, himself! Stop him! He must not reach the Amulet of Kings!"

Mannimarco will also be waiting for you in the Vault. During the fight, Sai Sahan will hold off one of the monster producing portals.

Mannimarco: "Minions, arise! Obey me!"
Sai Sahan: "I will hold them at the portal! Focus on Mannimarco!"

After killing Mannimarco and witnessing Molag Bal curtailing his plans:

"It is finished. Mannimarco's fate is well deserved.
It's time to take the Amulet of Kings and leave this befouled place."

Once you take the Amulet of Kings, the trio will have a conversation.

Lyris Titanborn: "Everything Mannimarco did was designed to pit us against each other. We can't let that happen. Look what we can accomplish when we work together."
Abnur Tharn: "How uncharacteristically optimistic of you, Titanborn. I may have that embroidered on a pillow."
Lyris Titanborn: "The Divines gave you a nose for a reason, Tharn. So you can keep your mouth shut and still keep breathing."
Abnur Tharn: "Well played, Titanborn. Well played."
Sai Sahan: "We are finished here. It is time to go home."

If you speak to him before he enters the portal, he says:

"At long last, the Amulet of Kings! My Lord Varen awaits our return. Let us leave this befouled place."

Back at the Harborage with the Amulet in hand.

"You have outdone yourself, my friend. Mannimarco is defeated and the Amulet of Kings is ours.
My Lord Varen awaits. Speak with him and tell him of our victory."

If you spoke to Varen but haven't turned in the quest:

"I wasn't prepared for such an ordeal. Without your help, I…I don't know if I would have survived. Thank you, Vestige, for all you have done."

After you talk with Varen:

"The Amulet of Kings is in our possession and the traitor Mannimarco has been defeated. But we are not yet finished. The blessings of Akatosh must be restored if Nirn is to remain safe.
But tonight, we rest."

If you return to the Harborage immediately after the quest is completed and before the next quest begins, he will be sharpening a knife:

"This Amulet is incredibly important. We will protect it until we are ready to use it."

Council of the Five CompanionsEdit

When you arrive at the Harborage, you'll find Lyris to the side of the main room playing her lute to Sai. Speak to him before speaking to Varen and he'll only say:

"Be welcome, my friend. I would have words with you, but my lord seeks your attention first."

If you speak to him after approaching Varen, he says:

"The greatest of the Sword-Saints, Divad, tells us that destiny is a chain, forged one link at a time. Our chain is nearly complete. There is but one link remaining."
What is this link?
"It is you, my friend. You are the link.
I will not bore you with effusive praise, but state it plainly. You are a great warrior and a trusted friend and we would like to extend you an offer."
What offer?
"When Emperor Varen first brought the Five Companions together, he did so in the hope of creating a Tamriel where all men could live freely and safely beneath one banner."
Go on.
"The Five Companions failed, betrayed from within by one of our own: The Worm King Mannimarco. All that came after was the result of one man's treachery.
Now four of the five are reunited to right that great wrong. But destiny requires a fifth."
What are you suggesting?
"We want you to join us as our fifth member. You are the champion we should have had with us back then.
Don't look so grave. This is largely symbolic. But please … humor an old soldier."
I am honored to join you as the last member of the Five Companions.
Sai Sahan: "My lord, with your permission."
Varen Aquilarios: "You needn't call me that anymore, Sai Sahan. We are equals now."
Sai Sahan: "All those years ago, when we fought beneath our lord's banner to free the Empire from the Longhouse Emperors, we did so with a dream of freedom and peace in mind—not just for the Empire, but for all of Tamriel."
Sai Sahan: "Together we forged a fellowship stronger than any blade, only to see it shattered upon the rocks of deceit by one of our own."
Sai Sahan: "That fellowship is no more, yet we four have assembled here, united by a single purpose. It is not vengeance that drives us, but truth and loyalty and justice."
Sai Sahan: "I, Sai Sahan, steward of the Abbey of Blades, call for the Five Companions to be reforged this day."
Sai Sahan: "By the light of Stendarr, and the heart of Lorkhan, may our blade of fellowship be forged anew. And may the Vestige, our mutual friend and ally, become its tip, that we may thrust it straight into the heart of a Daedric Prince."
Lyris Titanborn: "Sai Sahan is right. You are the member that we should have had all those years ago."
Varen Aquilarios: "It is as the Scrolls foretold. The soulless one will become the brightest of five stars, and they shall guide us to the coming dawn."
Abnur Tharn: "Oh, please. You melodramatic sots! Fine, fine. If seeing one of your foolish prophecies come true will help to ensure the safety of the Empire, I'll play along."
Sai Sahan: "We stand united once more—the Five Companions are reforged, and together we will strike down the God of Schemes!"
The Five Companions failed. Let's not risk repeating history.
Sai Sahan : "I … perhaps you are right. Forgive an old warrior's foolish notions. This is not the time for silly dreams. You should go speak with Lyris now."

Regardless of what you choose, Lyris will want to speak with you. If you speak to Sai before doing so:

"Lyris wishes to speak with you."

After speaking to Lyris, Tharn will want to talk to you. If you speak to Sai before doing so, he'll say:

"Tharn would like to hiss in your ear. Beware that snake's venom."

After the conversation with Tharn, the rest of the group will argue about the needed sacrifice.

Abnur Tharn: "Of course it is. The fact of the matter stands, however. One of the Five will need to give their life to fuel this attack, when the time comes."
Lyris Titanborn: "So you said before the Vestige arrived. And I've already thought it over. I'll do it."
Sai Sahan: "Snow Lily, no! You should not need to give your life this way. This is my duty—penance for my numerous failures. This is my chance to make things right."
Varen Aquilarios: "The Scrolls said nothing of this moment, and so I am not bound to their dictates. Vestige, I ask that you let me do this one thing. All that has happened was because of my hubris. I shall be the one."
Lyris Titanborn: "Sire, you've done enough. This was Mannimarco's doing, not yours."
Abnur Tharn: "As the one who will fight the Daedric Prince, the Vestige should decide."
Lyris Titanborn: "I don't see you leaping to volunteer, Tharn. Saving your own backside again?"
Abnur Tharn: "Hard as it may be, Lyris, don't be an idiot. I am the only one who knows the ritual and we don't have time to teach anyone else."
Varen Aquilarios: "That's enough. It won't be decided here and now. Vestige, come here. I have some final words for you."

Speak to Sai before Varen:

"My lord Varen has more to say to you."

If you exit out of the conversation with Varen before turning in the quest:

"Lord Varen has not finished. Heed his words."

After speaking to Varen, he'll say:

"You needn't make the choice now, but when the hour comes, know that we will stand with you and accept your decision."

If you return to the Harborage before you receive God of Schemes, he will be sharpening a knife again:

"Good hunting out there. We're all counting on you."

God of SchemesEdit

When you speak to him inside the Harborage:

"When Lord Varen revealed his true identity, you felt betrayed, and rightly so. In The Book of Circles it is written that when you forgive, you set a prisoner free, and quickly discover that the prisoner was you. Consider that, Vestige."

Sai Sahan fighting with Lyris at Heart's Grief

When spoken to without need at Heart's Grief:

"Courage, my friend. That is the most important of all virtues. Courage is not a lack of fear, rather, it is the realization that there are things more important than fear."

Inside the Vestibule, if you have spoken to the Duchess of Anguish:

Duchess of Anguish: "You! You did this to me! Sai Sahan, my love... let me out, would you? I promise you an eternity of delights..."
Sai Sahan: "Vile seductress! You have earned your place here!"

Arriving at the Seat of Tyranny:

Varen Aquilarios: "Molag Bal is here. I can feel his presence. Sense his foul breath upon the wind."
Varen Aquilarios: "There. That place should serve us well. Let us assemble and prepare the ritual."
Lyris Titanborn: "What do you suppose this place was?"
Sai Sahan: "A temple of some kind. The Dark Anchors may have pulled it into Coldharbour. Or, perhaps it was created by the Daedra to mock the Divines."
Abnur Tharn: "What does it matter? We can't wait any longer. We must perform the ritual. Vestige, it is time for you to make your decision."

You can then speak to Sai, and have the option to choose him as the sacrifice:

"I see that look in your eye, Vestige, and I wonder―am I to be the one? Know that I would consider it a great honor. It would be a fine death."
You sound very confident.
"When you live each day as if it were your last, as I have, eventually you will be right.
I was born to die a hero's death. I have always known this, and I have always been prepared for it."
Do you really want me to choose you?
"I once swore to protect my Emperor and failed. I cannot allow him to sacrifice his life in my place. Nor can I ask this of Lyris, my Snow Lily. She is more important to me than she will ever know.
Please. Give me this honor."
Very well. I choose you, Sai Sahan. (Sai Sahan is sacrificed in the ritual)
I need more time to decide. (You exit dialogue and can speak to him again, or to others)

Once you have made your decision on how to sacrifice, Abnur Tharn will bring out the Amulet of Kings and say:

Abnur Tharn: "Position yourself over there, Vestige. And brace yourself."

Sai being sacrificed for the ritual

If you have chosen to sacrifice Sai Sahan:

Lyris Titanborn: "Sai, I... I'll never forget you. And we'll finish this, I swear it."
Sai Sahan: "I am honored to make this sacrifice. When you think of me, I hope you remember me fondly, and sing songs of this day while you toast to my memory."

If you have chosen to sacrifice Lyris Titanborn:

Sai Sahan: "Snow Lily, no... don't do this. Please."
Lyris Titanborn: "Death is simply life's next great adventure, and I am prepared to make the journey. I hope to see you all again one day, in Sovngarde. Until then, it has been my greatest honor."

If you did not choose to sacrifice Sai and speak to him, he will say:

"No time for words now! Get moving!"

Back at the Harborage, events will turn out differently depending on the sacrifice that was made:

Sai and Lyris, should they both survive

If Varen was sacrificed:

Lyris Titanborn: "What... what happened? How did we get here? I remember being overwhelmed, but then..."
Cadwell: "Right. Sorry about that. I called in a bit of help to pull you out of there. I do hope I didn't overstep my bounds."
Sai Sahan: "Snow Lily, I..."
Lyris Titanborn: "I know, Sai. It's over. It's all over."
Cadwell: "Well then! Happy endings all around! Smashing! Who's got the brandy?"
Sai Sahan: "Wait, where is Tharn? Did he survive?"
Cadwell: "He vanished. Ran off, I think. And he took the amulet you chaps found, with him."

If you speak to him before Lyris, he'll only say:

"Honor and faith to you always, my friend. My part in this is over."

You can then talk to him.

"So, this is where our roads diverge."
You and Lyris are going back to the Abbey?
"For a time. There is much to rebuild there, and I owe it to Kasura to bring her the news of our victory personally.
Snow Lily and I, well … maybe we shall finally have some time to ourselves."
Aren't you going to chase after Tharn?
"To what end? No, let him return to his Imperial City. He played his role, and that is enough. Grudges are like poison to the spirit.
But perhaps, once the Abbey of Blades has been rebuilt..."
Yes?
"I have never been content to remain in one place for too long. It is not my nature. Eventually I am overcome by the need to endanger myself. Between comfort and adventure, I always choose adventure."
Then perhaps we'll meet on the road, some day.
"I would like that. It has been a singular honor, Vestige. Although I suppose that name is no longer appropriate, is it?
Varen would be proud of you. I know we are."
Farewell, Sai Sahan.

If Lyris was sacrificed:

Sai Sahan: "How have we returned? The last thing I remember was being overwhelmed!"
Cadwell: "Right. Sorry about that. I called in a bit of help to pull you out of there. I do hope I didn't overstep my bounds."
Varen Aquilarios: "He is gone! Molag Bal no longer touches my mind! I am finally free of him!"
Sai Sahan: "My Lord Varen, are you injured?"
Varen Aquilarios: "I'm fine, Sai. But where is Tharn? I do not hear his steps nor his breath."
Cadwell: "He vanished. Ran off, I think. And he took the amulet you chaps found, with him."
Sai Sahan: "I cannot believe Snow Lily is gone. Why did she do it, My Lord?"
Cadwell: "Here now, my good man! Lyris Titanborn is a good hero! She gave her life for a noble cause!"
Varen Aquilarios: "Sir Cadwell is right, Sai. We will all mourn her, but it was her choice. her sacrifice to make."

You can then talk to him, though he will you blame you for Lyris' death.

"Honor and faith to you always, my friend. My part in this is over."
What will you do now?
"Snow Lily is gone, and I will mourn her passing, but my duties are not yet finished.
My Lord Varen and I will travel to the Abbey of Blades to help rebuild. Then I will devote myself to the creation of a new generation of blademasters."
Will we meet again?
"Who can say? I do know that I need time to heal. I cannot help but blame you for Snow Lily's death. Perhaps that is unfair—it was her decision as much as yours—but it is the truth."
I'm sorry. Things will be all right, in time.

If Sai Sahan was sacrificed:

Varen Aquilarios: "The scents of the Harborage fill the air. But what happened? How did we return? Lyris? Lyris, are you there?"
Cadwell: "Not to worry, not to worry! Lyris is fit as a fiddle, and you all seem quite intact, as well."
Lyris Titanborn: "I'm here, sire. But where's Tharn?"
Cadwell: "He vanished. Ran off, I think. And he took the amulet you chaps found, with him."
Lyris Titanborn: "That bastard! Sai died for that Amulet!"
(?) "The Amulet's power is expended for generations to come. It will be of no use to him, now."
Varen Aquilarios: "Things feel different. Molag Bal's hold on my mind has been lifted. I am finally free of him!"

Afterwards, when you talk with Cadwell, he will deliver a eulogy and you will catch a glimpse of Sai's spirit.

Cadwell: "I don't know that this world will ever see the like of Sai Sahan again. He was the embodiment of loyalty and discipline—qualities that he tried to share, not by word, but by deed.
You can make use of that. He's part of you now, you know."
Cadwell: "Our noble Redguard friend may have shuffled off this mortal coil, but his spirit will live on, through you.
That's all well and done, then. There's just one bit of business left."

Dragonhold PrologueEdit

The Dragonguard's LegacyEdit

Sai Sahan in the Valley of the Blades

Sai Sahan's dialogue when you speak to him varies on whether you have started the Main Quest and who was sacrificed during God of Schemes.
If you have never met him before, he'll greet you with:

Sai Sahan: "Ah, Kasura sent word to expect you. Come, let us speak."
"Greetings, warrior. I am Sai Sahan, former captain of the Imperial Dragonguard."
You were the captain of the Dragonguard? So you know how to hunt Dragons?
"No, but I am trying to learn. The ancient Dragonguard were the Dragon slayers. My order simply served to protect the emperor.
Since the return of the Dragons, I have dedicated myself to discovering the old ways of the Dragonguard."
Perhaps these maps will help. They show the location of two Dragonguard sanctuaries.
"Yes, yes. The maps appear to be the right age. The sanctuaries they lead to may well contain the knowledge and relics I seek. We must visit these sites as soon as possible.
I just need a little time to study them and determine their orientation."

If you have met him before:

Sai Sahan: "My old friend! Kasura sent word of your imminent arrival. Welcome back to the Abbey of Blades."
"It's good to see you again, Vestige. Ready to once again answer Tamriel's latest cry for help?"
Of course. What have you been doing since we last met, Sai?
"I returned to the abbey to help Kasura rebuild. I'm not much of a carpenter, but I do what I can.
When the Dragons invaded Elsweyr, I knew my duty was to fight against them, and I began to search for the wisdom of the ancient Dragonguard."

If you sacrificed him during God of Schemes:

Sai Sahan: "It's good to see you again, Vestige. By the look on your face, I suspect you never expected to encounter your friend Sai Sahan again."
You sacrificed yourself to empower the Amulet of Kings. You should be dead!
"Yet here I am. I wish I had an answer, my friend.
I remember that fateful day in Coldharbour. Death dragged me down into darkness, but then I awoke here, at the Abbey of Blades. The rising sun never looked so good to my battle-weary eyes."
You've been here ever since?
"I needed to rest, rebuild my strength. Besides, Kasura required help with the abbey. When the Dragons invaded Elsweyr, I knew it was my duty to fight against them.
I've been searching for the wisdom of the ancient Dragonguard ever since."

Perhaps these maps will help. They show the locations of two Dragonguard sanctuaries.
"Yes, yes. The maps appear to be the right age. The sanctuaries they lead to may well contain the knowledge and relics I seek. We must visit these sites as soon as possible.
I just need a little time to study them and determine their orientation.."
What do you want me to do in the meantime?
"Speak to Kasura. She uncovered an ancient Dragonguard tool known as a grappling bow. Such a device may prove useful in our journey to come. Why don't you try to figure out how to best utilize it?"
Can I ask you some questions before I go?
"Speak quickly, for the sand in the hourglass never stops falling."
Why do you want to find a way to battle the Dragons?
"As far as I know, I'm the last of the Dragonguard. Once, my duty was to protect the emperor and defend the empire. Now... now I must carve a new path from the legends of old.
Now I prepare to hunt Dragons."
Seems like you're putting a lot of faith in old legends.
"Someone needs to take up the mantle. Besides, faith and legends go hand in hand. They are the whetstone that sharpens my blade.
Let us see where my faith in old legends takes us before we dismiss the notion that my predecessors were Dragon slayers."

Depending on your actions and progress in the main story, you'll unlock the following dialogues:
If you choose to sacrifice Sai Sahan in the quest God of Schemes:

I still can't believe you're alive. How did you survive the sacrifice?
"I remember closing my eyes as death embraced me … and then opening them to see the sun rising over the Dragontail Mountains. Beyond that, it's all a blank slate.
Believe me, Vestige, I would not keep such a secret from you."

If you choose to sacrifice any other:

What have you been up to since Coldharbour?
"Ah, our grand battle within the Daedric realm …. I was ready to lay down my life to protect Tamriel from Molag Bal's dark schemes. Then the battle was done.
I was looking for a new purpose when I heard that Dragons had returned to Elsweyr."
So you new purpose is to stop the Dragons?
"A noble goal, wouldn't you agree, Vestige? Evil must be defeated, innocents must be protected. And so we continue to fight.
At this point in time, I know of no greater evil than the Dragons that rampage over Elsweyr."

If spoken to again, he'll say:

"Find Kasura near the entrance to the training hall, just north of here. She has a grappling bow that you can train with.
Meanwhile, I'll study the maps you found and make ready for our journey."

After you finish talking to him, he'll walk away:

Sai Sahan: "Meet with me by the stables after you speak with Kasura."

Once you've completed Kasura's training:

"This old warrior has deciphered the first map. It leads to the Wind Scour Temple, hidden atop the ruins of HoonDing's Watch.
I saw the light of the brazier. I take it you were able to utilize the grappling bow?"
Yes, I used it to reach the roof of the training hall.
"Excellent. As the saying goes, a weapon is only as reliable as the soldier who wields it. With that being said, it would be best not to drop the device. It's incredibly old.
Now, are you ready to depart for Wind Scour Temple?"
What are we looking for in the Wind Scour Temple?
"Anything we can use against the Dragons. Tomes describing hunting techniques and strategies, weapons... honestly, whatever appears to be useful.
If you spot something of value, let me know."
I'm ready to depart for Wind Scour Temple.
"Let's be on our way, then. Kasura has agreed to let us borrow her horses.
The sooner we search these Dragonguard sanctuaries, the sooner we can uncover their secrets."
Wind Scour Temple

Exploring Wind Scour Temple

Once you've made your way to the Alik'r Desert, before you continue towards the temple, Sai will say:

Sai Sahan: "I'll secure the horses while you go on ahead."

After entering the Wind Scour Temple, Sai will meet you there:

Sai Sahan: "To think that a Dragonguard sanctuary was hidden beneath HoonDing's Watch all this time!"

If spoken, he'll say:

"Though we may search for the Dragonguard's secrets, we must be careful not to disrespect their sanctuary. Take only what you believe will be useful to our cause."

As you go deeper into the sanctuary, Sai will say:

Sai Sahan: "It seems this sanctuary won't easily give up its secrets. Come, let us speak."
"It appears the sanctuary's archives are out of reach. There doesn't even appear to be a place to use the grappling bow.
I...I don't know how to proceed."
There must have been a way for the Dragonguard to reach it.
"I agree. After all, with the proper application of will, the way always opens.
Hmm. Perhaps the answer lies in these statues."
Do you know anything about these statues?
"I am familiar with these personages.
The statues represent the four greatest Grandmasters the Dragonguard have ever known. Ghelin-Brol who helped establish the order, Ettiene Volusus who chronicled their history, and so forth."
And how do these Grandmasters help us reach that ledge?
"A brazier stands before each. Perhaps if we were to light them, they would reveal a way forward. Though I also suspect there's a proper order to it all.
Read each statue's plaque and see if they contain any clues."
All right, I'll read the plaques and try lighting the braziers.
Sai Sahan: "We honor you, Grandmasters of old. May your flames burn eternal."

You can speak to him for a clue if needed:

"I suspect we must light the braziers in a specific order.
Have you a chance to read the plaques? 'First of the Grandmasters, laid to rest.' That describes Ghelin-Brol, the Akaviri warrior who helped Reman establish the Dragonguard."

Once all braziers have been lit, a grappling post will appear and Sai will say:

Sai Sahan: "That did it! Look, a grapple point has appeared on the platform above!"

If spoken:

"It seems that we have use for that grappling bow, after all.
You should search the archives above. Gather anything you believe may prove useful to our efforts."

As you make your way to the archives:

Sai Sahan: "What an archive! If the Empire knew anything, it was the value of keeping good records."

Once you found the clue you were looking for:

Sai Sahan: "How goes the search? Come, tell me what you discovered so far."
"Have you found anything useful? Dragon hunting techniques, perhaps? Maybe even a weapon?"
I found a journal. The Dragonguard came here in search of the Horn of Ja'darri.
"The Horn of Ja'darri? This journal claims... it's a Dragonhorn of great power! And the last of the original Dragonguard went in search of it.
Incredible. I thought Dragonhorns were merely legends, but according to this, at least one exists."

If you've completed Elsweyr storyline: Or what quest exactly? Tutorial horn counts?

I used a Dragonhorn in Elsweyr.
"Truly? That makes your experience invaluable to our efforts.
Tell me, what does a Dragonhorn look like? How is it used?"
Well, it looks like a big horn. The one I used sounded and knocked Dragons out of the sky.
"So the legends are true. Incredible.
A Dragonhorn would give us the edge we desperately need to combat the Dragon invasion of Elsweyr. After all, a Dragon is far easier to fight on the ground than in the sky."

If you haven't done Elsweyr's storyline:

This seems like the sort of relic you were searching for.
"Indeed! A Dragonhorn would give us the edge we desperately need to combat the Dragon invasion of Elsweyr.
Provided this horn is as powerful as the journal indicates."

After this, the dialogue will be the same:

They didn't find the Dragonhorn here, but they were going to search Storm Talon Temple next.
"Storm Talon Temple? That's the location revealed by the second map. It's near the entrance to Aphren's Hold in Stormhaven. We should head there at once and see what we can find."
I'd like to look around a bit more before I leave. (Do Not Fast Travel)
"I recommend you show your respects to the Grandmasters before you depart. We owe them all a great deal."
I'll head to Storm Talon Temple and meet you there. (Fast Travel to Stormhaven)
Storm Talon Temple
Sai Sahan: "So this is Storm Talon Temple. Seems more like a maze than a sanctuary."
"It appears this sanctuary has fallen into ruin, blocking our path to the archives.
As the Dragonguard say, every path is worthy of pursuit. Though it seems the path we seek is a rather tricky one. Hmm."
Do you have any ideas?
"Why don't you try using your grappling bow? There may be a path forward that we just can't see from this vantage point.
I suggest you pick a direction and see where it takes you. If you become stuck, feel free to return here and try again."
All right, I'll try to grapple to the archives.

If spoken again, he'll say:

"You must try to find a pathway to the archives. If you fail, return to me and try again."

When you finally reach the archives, Sai, despite the really long distance between the two of you, will somehow say:

Sai Sahan: "Excellent work! Now see what you can find in the archives!"

Once you've retrieved the information:

Sai Sahan: "Any luck over there?"
"Were you able to find the Horn of Ja'darri?'
No, but I found another journal. It says that the Dragonhorn resides in Dark Water Temple.
"Interesting. We should prepare to face further challenges. Neither Wind Scour nor Storm Talon were easy to navigate. I suspect this next sanctuary will prove similarly difficult.
Does the book indicate where this Dark Water is located?"
The sanctuary's in Eastmarch, south of Windhelm.
"We can take the horses to Windhelm, and then search on foot from there."
You should go on ahead. I'll join you soon. (Do Not Fast Travel)
Let's head for Dark Water Temple right now. (Fast Travel to Eastmarch)

If you choose the first option, Sai will just walk away after saying:

Sai Sahan: "I'll meet you at Dark Water Temple."
Dark Water Temple

When you meet with him in the Dark Water Temple, he'll say:

Sai Sahan: "I don't see a way farther into the sanctuary. Perhaps you'll have better luck.
"The path leading farther into this sanctuary is hidden from us. I see neither grappling points nor braziers to light.
There must be another way."

As you check the bookshelves for clues, he'll comment:

"No, that doesn't seem helpful."
"You should try looking somewhere else."
"Nothing useful yet? Hmm."

When you finally find an useful clue

Sai Sahan: "A grapple point! And there's an urn beside it. Why don't you see what it contains?"

If spoken:

"Why don't you use your grappling bow and see what's in that urn?"

When you check the urn and take the dragonbone powder out of it, he'll say:

Sai Sahan: "That's Dragonbone powder. The ancient Dragonguard used it in their ceremonies."
"There must have been a reason that Dragonbone powder was kept near the entrance of the sanctuary. Try using it on the altar."

As you spread the powder all over the altar, a bridge of shining particles appears in front of you. Sai will say:

"Of course. The powder reveals a hidden path. Follow it, quickly!"
"Another archive, but no Dragonhorn in sight. Let's look around."

If you talk to him:

"The archives must contain information about the Horn of Ja'darri. Let's see if we can find anything useful in these stacks."

When you go to inform Sai about the new clue on the Dragonhorn whereabouts:

"Did you find anything? Something about the Dragonhorn?"
I found another journal. It says a Dragon named Vahlokzin stole the Dragonhorn.
"By Leki's blade! Of all the possibilities I imagined, that was never among them.
No matter the dangers, we must retrieve that Dragonhorn. The fate of Elsweyr depends on it! Did the journal indicate where Vahlokzin lairs?"
The Dragon makes its lair in a dormant volcano in Southern Elsweyr. The journal includes a map.
"Such a journey requires planning and preparation. Let's return to the Abbey of Blades and check in with Kasura."
Let's depart then. (Fast Travel to Abbey of Blades)'
I want to explore the sanctuary some more. (Do Not Fast Travel)

If you choose the lastest, you can talk to him again to travel back to the abbey.

"These Dragonguard sanctuaries, hidden for so long. How many more lie buried in the dust? How much knowledge remains lost to us?"
Let's head back to the abbey. (Fast Travel to Abbey of Blades)
Valley of Blades

When you return to the Valley of Blades and speak to Kasura, Sai will come running up:

Sai Sahan: "I assume you told Kasura of our adventure, warrior."
"When you brought the Dragonguard sanctuary maps to me, I had no idea what we would find. Hunting techniques, perhaps. Maybe a weapon or two.
But the promise of a Dragonhorn! That's more than I dreamed possible after all this time."
We don't have the Dragonhorn yet.
"Those who risk nothing inadvertently risk it all. Either we face this single Dragon to gain a Dragonhorn, or we face a horde without such a weapon at our side.
But what's risk without reward? Here's something for the aid you provided thus far."

The Horn of Ja'darriEdit

Before starting the quest, Sai will comment when close by:

Sai Sahan: "This may be the first Dragon we face together. Leki willing, it won't be the last."

He can be spoken to in the Valley of Blades to start the quest:

"The journals we discovered in the Dragonguard sanctuaries point to one obvious conclusion. The Horn of Ja'darri exists, but was stolen by the Dragon Vahlokzin.
We must enter the Dragon's lair in Southern Elsweyr and retrieve the horn."
That happened so long ago. Can we be sure the Dragonhorn still exists?
"The journals indicated that the horn was indestructible. And Stendarr knows that Dragons are as close to immortal and unchanging as the earth and sky.
Fate has placed the Horn of Ja'darri in our path for a purpose. I believe that with all my heart."
Were you able to determine the location of the Dragon's lair?
"Despite its age, the map we found in the journal clearly indicated where we must go. The Dragon Vahlokzin lairs in a dormant volcano in Southern Elsweyr.
I ask you, friend, will you make this journey with me?"
I'll accompany you to the Dragon's lair, Sai.
"The horses will carry us to the nearest port. From there, we can charter a boat and sail to Southern Elsweyr.
Thanks to the map you found in Dark Water Temple, it should be easy enough to find Vahlokzin's lair."
Before we depart, can we review what we learned at the Dragonguard sanctuaries?
"An excellent idea. Wisdom and reason are sharpened into focus every time we scrutinize the things we learned.
What would you like to discuss?"
What's the significance of the Horn of Ja'darri?
"When Emperor Varen made me captain of his Dragonguard, I swore to protect the Empire. With the return of the Dragons, I knew I had to find a way to fight the beasts—just like the Dragonguard of old.
The Horn of Ja'darri could be our best weapon."
The horn is a weapon?
"It's a Dragonhorn of great power, nearly indestructible and able to replenish its innate magic. It has no equal!
With the Horn of Ja'darri, we have a chance to defeat the Dragons of Elsweyr. Without it, the Dragons have a distinct advantage."
What do we know about Vahlokzin's lair?
"The journal described a dormant volcano near the coast of Southern Elsweyr, though I suspect we'll find a cave or ruin nearby. Dragons prefer secure lairs and aren't known to nest out in the open.
Plus, it needs a place to hide the stolen horn."
How do you think Vahlokzin managed to steal the Dragonhorn?
"I never heard of Vahlokzin before we saw the name in the journal, but Dragons are clever creatures. Besides, the Dragonguard was dissolved around that time.
In all likelihood, the sanctuary was abandoned, leaving the Horn of Ja'darri undefended."
Are we truly prepared to face a Dragon?
"What an unusual question. Don't you know that great deeds set the stage for greater victories? And what a deed you already accomplished, facing down a mighty Dragon!"

If you finished both Lair of Maarselok and Moongrave Fane he will instead say:

"What an unusual question. As I understand it, you've already faced a mighty Dragon. After all, great deeds set the stage for great victories."
Yes, I defeated a Dragon in Northern Elsweyr. (If you have played the Elsweyr chapter)
"Rumor has it that all of Anequina knows you to be a mighty Dragon hunter. Honestly, I find it invaluable to fight alongside someone with your expertise.
Vahlokzin should prove little trouble for you and I."
It's true. I defeated the Dragon Maarselok near Grahtwood. (If you completed the Lair of Maarselok dungeon)
"Yes, with the help of the Changeling spirit Selene no less. I suppose she would find offense that a Dragon had begun to spread such corruption in the forests of her home.
I hear it was a mighty battle of flame and decay."
But I had allies to aid me in that fight. Can we face a Dragon with just two of us? (results in same answer)
I faced off against the Dragon Sahrotnax in Moongrave Fane, but it was Grundwulf I killed. (If you completed the Moongrave Fane dungeon)
"Still, you faced the Dragon's flame and rage. And Grundwulf .... A vampire Dragonguard, yes? A difficult foe to defeat.
A shame that one of my order would fall so far from grace."
But I had allies to aid me in that fight. Can we face a Dragon with just two of us? (results in same answer)
It's true. I battled the Dragons Sahrotnax and Maarselok. (If you completed both Lair of Maarselok and Moongrave Fane dungeons)
"And lived to tell such a glorious tale! I hear they were mighty battles both, filled with fearsome vampires and fiery destruction. You have proven yourself a worthy warrior, ready to hunt down the Dragon Vahlokzin."
But I had allies to aid me in that fight. Can we face a Dragon with just two of us? (results in same answer)
I don't think we should take this Dragon's threat that lightly.
"Regardless of the risks we face, we have a duty to Tamriel to retrieve this Dragonhorn.
As a blademaster and captain of the Dragonguard, I am quite up to the task of helping you take down this Dragon."
I'm ready to depart. (Fast Travel to Vahlokzin's Lair)
Vahlokzin's Lair

As you make your way into the ruins:

"The Dragon's lair should be nearby. Be on your guard, warrior."
"That Khajiiti ruin in the distance. A fine place for a Dragon to nest."
"Prepare yourself, warrior. Who knows what awaits us in there?"

Eventually, you'll finally get into the dragon's lair, which apparently was an abandoned kwama mine. Sai will comment as you get even further:

"Curious. It seems this place once served as a kwama mine, though it appears abandoned now."

As cross the first hall of the ruins, Vahlokzin's voice will reverberate into the place:

Vahlokzin: "Visitors? I have not entertained guests in untold centuries."
Sai Sahan: "You hide in the shadows, beast. Come fight us in the light!."
Vahlokzin: "You sound just like the Dragonguard who last graced these halls."

You can find Dragonguard Remains as you progress through. Sai will say something after each has been searched:

"The Dragonguard who sought the Horn of Ja'darri in ages past. May your light burn eternal, old warrior."

As you search the second of those corpses later on, Sai will say:

"It appears this soldier was killed by kwama. It must have been a massive swarm."

Before that, Vahlokzin voice will rumble once again and Sai will comment on that:

Vahlokzin: "You seek the horn of my cowardly brother? Pathetic. Like the Dragonguard before you, death will be your only reward!"
Sai Sahan: "The Horn of Ja'darri? Is that the horn of Vahlokzin's brother?"
Vahlokzin: "These pitiful Dragonguard found only death in Vahlokzin's lair!"
Sai Sahan: "Stay alert. I fear the beast lays a trap for us."

As you get closer to the exit of the mine's ruin, you hear Vahlokzin's roar, which causes the kwama to suddenly swarm on you. Sai will say:

"The Dragon's roar has stirred the kwama! Defend yourself!"

And after you defeat the swarm:

"The Dragon uses kwama as a form of defense. How cowardly."

Once you finally get out of the mine, onto Vahlokzin's domains, Sai will say:

"Step quickly. We don't want to be caught in the open."

You come across a raised drawbridge. Sai will say:

"By Sep's scales, a drawbridge blocks our way! See if you can find any clue as to how to operate the pulleys."

If you speak to him after finding the Final Letter of Sergeant Berarah, Sai will say:

"Notice the pulleys. They should help us lower the drawbridge. Unfortunately, I'm not sure which combination of settings will open the way.
See if you can find anything that could assist us."
A Dragonguard tried to lower the drawbridge. She left a note behind, which contains a riddle.
"Tried to lower the drawbridge, you say? Well, that certainly doesn't bode well for us.
Tell me the riddle."
"Khenarthi flies overhead. Alkosh stands in glory. The Mane bows before their greatness."
"Hmm. Khenarthi is the Khajiiti god of travel, not unlike Tava, the Bird God. Alkosh is called Akatosh by most, the Dragon God of Time. And the Mane is a Khajiiti spiritual leader."
What do they have to do with the pulleys?
"Each pulley features an icon—a bird, an hourglass, or a Khajiit. This riddle must hint toward where to position the two pulleys of each icon.
Remember, "Khenarthi flies overhead. Alkosh stands in glory. The Mane bows before their greatness.""

As you finally decipher the riddle and lower the bridge, Sai will say as he crosses it:

"I see it! The Horn of Ja'darri is just ahead!"

"At last, the Horn of Ja'darri!"

When you find the Dragonhorn: If spoken before grabbing it, he will say:

"What are you waiting for? Grab the Dragonhorn before Vahlokzin arrives!"

Once you grab it:

"At last, the Horn of Ja'darri! Now we finally have a chance against this Dragon threat."
Here, Sai. You should take the Dragonhorn.
Sai Sahan: "We have reclaimed the Horn of Ja'darri!"
Vahlokzin: "A Dragon's horn, willingly given. Pity I don't share my brother's sentiment."
Sai Sahan: "The beast attacks! To arms!"

As you fight the dragon, Sai will try to use the horn on the beast:

"Prepare yourself! I'm going to blow the horn!"

Once Vahlokzin has been defeated, Sai will say:

"Vahlokzin is dead. We should return to the Valley of Blades."

If spoken to before leaving, he'll say:

"A moment, if you please. Our battle against Vahlokzin left me quite exhausted.
Return to the Abbey of Blades and let Kasura know that we succeeded. I will follow as soon as I can."
Valley of Blades

Back at the Valley of Blades, as you approach Kasura, Sai will appear and say:

"I have returned and I bring the Dragonhorn. Come, let us speak."
"Now that we have the Horn of Ja'darri, our true work begins.
As the saying goes, strike when the opportunity appears or stand by and do nothing. I can never do nothing."
And the Horn of Ja'darri is an opportunity?
"Most certainly. You saw how it knocked Vahlokzin out of the sky, granting us a significant advantage in battle. If it's as indestructible as the journal says, it will prove invaluable in the battles to come.
I just wish we knew the Horn's origin."
Does the origin of the Dragonhorn matter?
"Vahlokzin implied that the Dragonhorn was willingly given by another of its kind. But what manner of Dragon would give away its own horn? And for what purpose?
Ah, well. Perhaps things will become clearer with more study."
What's your next move, Sai?
"I must train with the Dragonhorn and prepare for what lies ahead. And so must you, warrior.
When the time comes, I will call for your aid. Together, we shall fight back against the Dragons and drive them from Elsweyr. This, I swear to you."

Or if you stop the conversation before finishing the quest, Sai then will say:

"Could the Horn of Ja'darri truly be a gift from a Dragon? Vahlokzin said it was a Dragon's horn, willingly given … but for what purpose?
Ah, well. Perhaps I'll learn more in due course."
What's your next move, Sai?
"I must train with the Dragonhorn and prepare for what lies ahead. And so must you, warrior.
When the time comes, I will call for your aid. Together, we shall fight back against the Dragons and drive them from Elsweyr. This, I swear to you."
"When a Dragonguard dies, we say a prayer. May your flame burn eternal.
It's a promise to honor them, a desire for their legacy to live on. And it's an oath that we uphold, to never forget those who came before. An oath I will always honor."
After you train with the Dragonhorn, what happens next?
"Reports tell me that the Dragons have moved into Southern Elsweyr, ravaging towns and villages along the way. That is where I will go, and I'll send for you when I get there."
Just the two of us? Will that be enough to turn the tide of the Dragons?
"We won't be alone. We'll rally others to our cause, those willing to take up the mantle of the Dragon hunters of old. It will be glorious!
We still have so much to learn, though. So much to do to reignite the Dragonguard."

If the Main Quest has been completed [verification needed — see talk page], you can ask:

Have you spoken with the other Companions lately?
"I've been far too busy. Between helping rebuild the abbey and finding a way to fight the Dragon invasion in Elsweyr, there's been little time to socialize."

Then you'll have different dialogue to now on, depending on your actions in the main story:

If you sacrificed Sai during God of Schemes, you can ask:
You haven't spoken to anyone? Not even Lyris?
"I'm not certain where Lyris is, truth be told. Kasura told me that she visited the abbey, but departed soon after. And as I said, I've been quite busy.
I do plan to find her, eventually. If only to make sure she's doing well."
If you sacrificed Lyris during God of Schemes, you can ask:
How you handling Lyris's death?
"It's not a matter I'd like to discuss, Vestige. Not when there's still so much to do.
I don't plan to forget her, of course. But there is little time to deal with grief when so much is at stake."
If you sacrificed The Prophet during God of Schemes, you can ask:
What about Lyris? Wasn't she going to help you rebuild the abbey?
"Yes, she did. For a time. I hoped she would join me in my efforts to reclaim the wisdom of the Dragonguard.
But something else called my Snow Lily away. Something Lyris felt she had to do."
What caused her to depart?
"I'm afraid she did not say. Perhaps it was something she wished to do alone, or perhaps she was afraid I would forsake my duties and join her.
She did promise to write, though. I eagerly await her letters."

DragonholdEdit

The Dragon's LairEdit

Find Sai Sahan near the wayshrine in Senchal and you'll hear him being told by Centurion Ancrus that "the general doesn't see anyone without an appointment."

If you have not completed the prologue quests, he'll tell you:

"It's a shame. Dragons ravage nearby villages and Senchal fears the approach of Dragonfire. Yet no one seems willing to fight back.
Hmm. You seem like a warrior of worth. Perhaps you can aid me?"

Otherwise he'll say:

"The time has come at last, my friend. We now have the means to fight back against this Dragon invasion and save Elsweyr from certain destruction. This is where we start, in the city of Senchal.
If you still wish to join me, that is."
What do you need my help with?
"A Dragon nests on a nearby island. I believe it plans to attack Senchal. We need to slay the creature before it strikes.
Unfortunately, there's not a ship in this city that will sail us to a Dragon's lair. Believe me, I've asked."
So what's our next step?
"General Renmus, leader of Senchal's military forces, could commandeer a ship to sail us to the island. We need to arrange a meeting with the general and convince him to support us.
What say you, warrior? Will you help me slay this Dragon?"
I'll help you deal with this Dragon threat.
"Now, meeting with an Imperial general is faster said than done. The paperwork alone would take days to file, and the Dragon we seek could attack the city at any moment.
So I found an … alternative method."
What does this alternative method involve?
"Your aid and this handful of jewels.
First, you must bribe Renmus's scribe Nadama to put us on the schedule. You'll find her in the tavern. Next, you need to speak to Darkhu in the city's outskirts, just south of here. He can forge our credentials."
Anything else?
"You also need to delay Arniel Branck, who is scheduled to meet with the general today.
Arniel's ship just docked in the harbor. If you steal his vessel's manifest, the dock master should detain him. That will give us enough time to speak with the general."
Bribe the clerk, pay the forger, and steal the manifest. Got it.
"Leki be willing, all will go well and our meeting with General Renmus will commence without issue.
Meet me at the palace when you're done. Meanwhile, I'll learn all I can about our upcoming Dragon hunt."
Tell me more about the situation in Senchal.
"The outlying towns have already been ravaged by Dragons, and refugees have come pouring into Senchal as a result. They hope that stone walls will stop the Dragons' wrath.
But it's only a matter of time before the Dragons attack Senchal."
And you believe the Dragon on this island will be the one to attack.
"Why else would it roost so close to the city?
I believe the Dragon is evaluating Senchal's defenses and preparing for the right moment to strike. We must slay it before it gets that chance."
And do you think General Renmus will help us?
"That is my hope.
No matter the risk, our best option is to slay this Dragon on its own island, away from the innocents of Senchal. Let's hope the general agrees with that logic."
<If you haven't completed the prologue>:I'll help you fight the dragons, but you still haven't told me anything but your name.
"I was once captain of the Imperial Dragonguard. I swore to serve Emperor Varen and protect his Empire. But now, with Cyrodiil in disarray, I find myself forced to carve another path.
And so I prepare to fight Dragons."
Why do you want to hunt Dragons, though?
"The Dragonguard of old were both proud defenders of the Empire as well as Dragon hunters. I may no longer serve Emperor Varen, but I wish to continue their traditions.
I was even able to find one of their Dragonhorns, the Horn of Ja'darri."
The Horn of Ja'darri?
"It's an ancient relic that forces the most powerful of Dragons to come crashing to the ground. It gives us a tremendous advantage in battle.
I've already used it to slay one Dragon. And with your help, I hope to slay many more."
<If you have completed the prologue>:Have you brought the Horn of Ja'darri with you?/Do you still have the Horn of Ja'darri?
"Of course. I would hardly ask you to join me in this battle without it.
I've also been able to train with the Dragonhorn and become more attuned to its powers and limitations."
What have you learned?
"We know that the Horn of Ja'darri can force Dragons out of the sky. I also believe that it's practically indestructible.
However, I find that the horn needs time to replenish its magic after every use."
What does that mean for battle?
"I can only use the horn occasionally in battle. That limitation aside, it's still a powerful weapon. It will greatly aid us in the hunts to come."
How did you come up with this plan to meet General Renmus?
"You'd be surprised what people tell a respectable gentleman with a distinguished beard.
Take Nadama, for example. I heard that she's been seeking a way to leave Senchal for weeks. A few gems would certainly help pay for her passage."
And what about our forger, Darkhu ?
"It was easy enough to learn about that braggart. I overheard him in the tavern, claiming that he could forge any document in Senchal. For the right price, of course.
Let's see if he has the skills to back up his boasts."
And what about Arniel Branck? Why do I need to steal his ship's manifest?
"All ships coming into Senchal are subject to a cargo inspection, unless they present a sanctioned ship's manifest. If you're able to steal Arniel's manifest, he'll be held up in customs for hours.
That will give us time to speak with the general."
And you're sure all this will help us get an appointment with the general?
"Yes, Leki willing.
Had we the time, I would go through official channels. But with so much at stake, we can't afford the delay. We have no choice but to use these underhanded measures."

Complete your tasks and he'll be waiting at the bottom of the steps leading to the palace entrance:

"Were you able to secure a meeting with General Renmus?"
I was. Everything's ready for our appointment.
"And so we must prepare for our first battle, my friend. A battle of wits.
Remember, we must convince General Renmus to commandeer a ship for us. With it, we'll sail to the Dragon's island and slay the beast."
What do you know about the Dragon or this island?
"Not much, and what I do know I'm not sure what it means.
A ship sailed directly to the Dragon's island recently. It displayed no banners, and no one in Senchal recognized it. It's possible we're not the only Dragon hunters in Southern Elsweyr."
So we might have allies to help us take down the Dragon?
"I won't discount the possibility, but I also won't plan for it. For all we know, this ship was bound for another destination. Or it has other business on that island, though I'm at a loss as to what that might be.
Let's head to our appointment."
All right. Let's go speak with General Renmus.

As the two of you approach the entrance, Centurion Ancrus will stop you and ask your business:

Centurion Ancrus: "Halt! Official business only!"
Sai Sahan: "We have an appointment with General Renmus. Here. Our papers."
Centurion Ancrus: "These seem to be in order. All right, you can go in."

Follow Sai into Rnmus' office and the general will address the warrior:

General Renmus: "It's not every day that Captain Sai Sahan graces my office."
Sai Sahan: "Greetings, general. I am here to request a ship to hunt down a nearby Dragon."
General Renmus: "Slay a Dragon? And this from a man who couldn't even protect our emperor?"
Sai Sahan: "Perhaps you should speak to my companion. They can share the details of our plan."

After you're done speaking with the general, Sai leaves the room.

Sai Sahan: "Thank you for your time, general. Come, my friend. Let's speak outside."

Meet him outside the palace, and he'll notice that Aeliah Renmus is closely following you:

Sai Sahan: "Well look there. We have a guest."
Aeliah Renmus: "Wait! Hold on!"
Aeliah Renmus: "I think I know someone who can help you."

Speak to him and he'll ask:

"Well this is unexpected. Why would a member of the Shields of Senchal wish to speak with us?
Best if we see what she has to say."

After speaking to Aeliah, Sai will comment:

"Let's see if this Za'ji fellow is as honorable as young Aeliah believes.
Would you care to walk there together? There's much about Senchal I can tell you. Otherwise, we can meet in the city's outskirts."
I'd like to hear more about Senchal. Let's walk together.
"Very well. Follow me."
After you, then.
I'd rather meet you in the city's outskirts.

If you say you'd like to walk and talk, Sai will impart the following points:

Sai Sahan: "Refugees from the recent Dragon attacks have flooded Senchal. They have lost homes and livelihoods. Despite the city's best efforts, most go to sleep hungry each night."
Sai Sahan: "Many take advantage of these hopeless souls. Thieves and cutthroats steal any item of value they still carry. While these refugees languish, the city's underbelly thrives."
Sai Sahan: "While the Dragons ravage this land, these people will suffer. That is why we must fight. Not for glory, not for fame, but for the innocents of Elsweyr who cannot fight for themselves."

Arrive at Za'ji and Caska's location in the southern corner of the city (not far from the Senchal Outlaws Refuge entrance), he'll say:

"Seems our smuggler is a bit distraught. Let's hope it's nothing serious."

After Za'ji tells you you need to look for his ship in South Guard Ruins, Sai will say:

"We don't need another complication. Especially when we have no idea when this Dragon will strike.
Still, we can't set sail without a ship. Let's make our way to South Guard Ruins."

When you arrive at South Guard Ruins, you'll find Za'ji and Caska discussing tactics. Speak to Sai.

"Our new companions certainly love to quarrel.
Za'ji wants to infiltrate the encampment and take Nartise by surprise. Caska, on the other hand, suggests we launch a frontal assault and deal with him directly."
I'd rather take my own approach. Perhaps we should split from Za'ji and Caska.
"Very well. We'll start our search at the north entrance. I'll follow your lead.
Meanwhile. Za'ji and Caska can make their way to the other side of the encampment. I'll leave their strategy to them."
Any ideas where we should search?
"Luckily, Za'ji provided a map of the area. I've determined a few locations where I believe Nartise may be, given their relative isolation from the rest of the encampment.
At the very least, this path should let us search most of the camp."
Let's head to the north entrance, then.

With that, Sai will give orders:

Sai Sahan: "Enough! Do you accept the plan?"
Za'ji: "It is an excellent plan! We'll circle around to the back, yes?"
Caska: "And knowing your mouth, we'll alert every pirate in South Guard along the way."
Za'ji: "What? Za'ji is the epitome of discretion!"
Sai Sahan: "I'm going to take the lay of the land. I'll meet you at the entrance to the camp."

At the first location, he'll say: :"I don't see Nartise. Let's move on." At the next, he'll add: :"No sign of the Dark Elf here. Let's head north."

Enter the Desolate House and Nartise will scream and lock himself in the Escape Tunnel.

Nartise Merys: "Ah!"
Sai Sahan: "Stop right there!"
Sai Sahan: "He locked the door. Stand back."
Sai Sahan: "Quickly now, after him!"

On the beach at the end of the tunnel, you'll find Nartise in magical chains held by Za'ji while Caska crouches ready to pounce.

Sai Sahan: "That's one way to catch a thief."
Za'ji: "Walkers, good to see you! Look who Za'ji found! Why don't you say hello?"
Nartise Merys: "Please, Za'ji! Don't let Caska rip out my throat!"
Sai Sahan: "I'll stand guard while you interrogate Nartise."

Speak to him before speaking to Nartise, and he'll say:

"It was a good call to split our forces. Let's just hope our friend here is feeling cooperative."

After you question Nartise, and Za'ji sends him into the ocean, he'll remark:

"Za'ji certainly has a flair for the dramatic."

Speak to Za'ji and he'll tell you his plan. Sai will have reservations, but agree to go along:

"Against my better judgment, I think we should follow Za'ji's plan. Besides, it's best if you help secure the boat. We wouldn't want our new friends sailing off without us."
Do you think they'll rescind on their offer to sail us to the island?
"Let's just say I'm not discounting the possibility. Aeliah Renmus seems like a respectable woman, but she may not be the best judge of character.
For now, let's hold up our end of the bargain."
All right, I'll head to the ship then.

Once you and Caska have seized The Perfect Pounce, Za'ji and Sai will arrive:

Za'ji: "Ah, it is good to be home!"
Sai Sahan: "We should sail for Senchal before reinforcements arrive."
Za'ji: "Excellent point. Hey, walker! Get us out of here!"

Sail the Pounce back to Senchal. Once docked, the rest of the crew will board along with Aeliah Renmus. If you speak to Sai, he'll say: "It seems that young Aeliah has joined us. See what she has to say."

After speaking to Aeliah, he'll talk to you more:

"Now that we've secured a vessel, our next step is to infiltrate the Dragon's lair.
Za'ji will stay on his ship in case we need to make a quick retreat. Caska, on the other hand, has asked to join our hunt."
Aeliah wants to help us slay the Dragon.
"If she wishes to protect her home, she should have that chance.
Once we reach the island, we'll search for the Dragon. Luckily we have the Horn of Ja'darri to help us fight the beast."
A Dragonhorn will certainly make this fight easier.
"Indeed. Our journey to recover the relic may have been a long one, but it's proven to be an invaluable weapon.
That being said, we may find more resistance than just a Dragon on the island."
More resistance? What do you mean?
"Another ship was seen heading toward the island. I'm not sure if its crew are friend or foe, but we must be prepared for the worst.
We can set sail immediately. Or perhaps you would like to take a moment to become familiar with the crew?"
I'd like to speak with the crew before we set sail.
<Speak to four crew members>
I'm ready. Let's set sail for the Dragon's island.
<Sail to Tideholm>

If you speak to him before sailing, he'll reiterate: "It never hurts to get to know your companions, especially on the cusp of battle. Just don't take too long. Our mission is urgent. The sooner we set sail the better."

Once you arrive in Tideholm, he'll say:

Sai Sahan: "Let's discuss our plan of attack."

Speak to him and he'll say:

"Judging by that docked ship, we're not the only ones who have business on this island."
How do you want to proceed?
"There's a Dragonguard proverb. Prepare your counter before the blow. In other words, if they swing at you, be ready to swing back.
I also recommend we split our forces to cover more ground."
Where do you want me to go?
"I spotted a cavern northeast of here. Scout ahead and see where it leads. Meanwhile, Caska, Aeliah, and I will search for the main entrance to those ruins."
Search the cavern northeast of here. Got it.

Sai will then address Aeliah and Caska standing nearby:

Sai Sahan: "Aeliah, Caska. You're with me. Stick close and prepare to fight."
Caska: "I'm always ready to fight. Just keep an eye on the little one."
Aeliah Renmus: "I can take care of myself, you know."

Speak to him again and he'll only say:

"The cavern passage lies to the northeast. See where it leads and prepare to defend yourself. We have no idea what dangers lurk on this island."

Travel through the cave to a balcony and you'll find Sai, Caska, and Aeliah already there:

Sai Sahan: "Sep's scales, this gate won't budge. Does anyone see a lever?"

Pull the nearby lever and he'll say:

Sai Sahan: "Good to see you, warrior! Thanks for the assistance."

Continue through the complex and come upon another balcony with New Moon warriors waiting to ambush. Your friends are on the other side of a closed gate:

Sai Sahan: "Hold your positions!"

Pull the nearby lever and open the gates while triggering a flame trap killing all the New Moon enemies:

Sai Sahan: "That was certainly effective. Well done, my friend!"

Reach the third balcony and you'll hear:

Sai Sahan: "Damn this gate!"
Aeliah Renmus: "Look, above us! The Dragon!"
Sai Sahan: "Prepare yourselves!"

Pull the nearby lever and he'll yell:

Sai Sahan: "Inside, now! Follow the beast!"

Speak to Sai inside and he'll exclaim:

"These banners, the motifs … there's no mistaking it. This is a Dragonguard sanctuary! How dare a Dragon desecrate these hallowed halls!"
All the more reason for us to slay this Dragon.
"Well said!
I was able to track the Dragon's movements. It should be just up ahead. Aeliah and Caska have agreed to guard this hall while we move forward."
Got it. I'll follow you.

Follow Sai to the next courtyard and Nahfahlaar will land at the far end:

Sai Sahan: "Where are you, vile beast? Show yourself!"
Sai Sahan: "Prepare to meet your end!"

Sai blows the horn, but Nahfahlaar shouts back at him causing him to stumble:

Sai Sahan: "The horn didn't work … how?"
Nahfahlaar: "Of course not. That's my horn, mortals. Tell me how you came to possess it."
Sai Sahan: "My companion will speak with you, Dragon. But make one wrong move and my blade will cut deep."

Speak to Sai and he'll warn you:

"See what this Dragon has to say, but be wary. I'll be prepared to strike if it moves against us."

After speaking to the dragon, he'll say:

"Well, I certainly didn't factor this into my plans.
The Dragonguard were very clear about their dealings with Dragons—hunt them, slay them, use their parts. Yet this one shares our goals."
What goals do we share?
"This Laatvulon seeks to destroy all of Tamriel. If Nahfahlaar wants to stop that, I'd say we have a common cause.
As the Redguard proverb tells us, if we share an enemy, let our blades strike as one."
Are you suggesting we make an alliance with Nahfahlaar?
"I may not like it, but Nahfahlaar possesses knowledge about Laatvulon that we just don't have. And the might of a Dragon at our disposal isn't something to toss away lightly.
Yes, I'd rather have Nahfahlaar on our side than against us."
But we came here to kill the Dragon.
"Our mission was successful, my friend. It just didn't end as we expected.
We secured passage to the island. We found the Dragon. And we made sure Senchal was safe … at least from this potential threat. Not bad for a day's work."
And now we're negotiating with a Dragon.
"We also need to learn more about this Dragon, Laatvulon. If it does indeed wish to destroy all of Tamriel, then an alliance is our best way to end that threat.
I'm just glad I have your support in this. Your help has already been invaluable."

ReformationEdit

"If we're to fight back against Laatvulon, we'll need more than a single Dragon. We'll need an order dedicated to eradicating this threat.
The time has come to reform the Dragonguard."
Did you have any candidates in mind?
"I do. The crew of the Perfect Pounce already helped us on one Dragon hunt. I'd like you to see if they'd join us for many more.
Speak to Za'ji and see if he and his crew want to join our order."
All right. I'll ask Za'ji if he and his crew want to join the Dragonguard.

You can continue to speak to him for more information:

"Let's hope Za'ji takes our offer seriously. He may find it hard to believe that we want his crew to join the Dragonguard. In fact, I'm having a hard time believing it myself. But by Leki, we need them."
Tell me more about the Dragonguard.
"The Imperial Dragonguard was formed centuries ago by Reman the First, founder of the Second Empire.
Though we seek to emulate the order's Dragon hunting practices, the Dragonguard was originally created to act as Reman's honor guard."
Why would the emperor's honor guard also hunt Dragons?
"I suspect it has to do with the order's Akaviri origins.
When the Akaviri invaded Tamriel, they were defeated by Reman and ultimately swore loyalty to him and his heirs. They eventually became his Dragonguard."
And what does being Akaviri have to do with hunting Dragons?
"The Akaviri have a long history of hunting Dragons in their homeland. And so the Dragonguard were both the Emperor's honor guard and accomplished Dragon hunters.
This lasted for nearly two centuries, until the assassination of Reman III."
What happened when Reman III was assassinated?
"The Dragonguard was officially disbanded.
Some members swore loyalty to the Potentate and acted as his spymasters, while others became mercenaries. There were even members who continued to hunt Dragons, though in much smaller numbers than before."
Do you think our companions are Dragonguard material?
"Members of the Dragonguard were the premier soldiers of the Empire. They were master strategists, disciplined and honor-bound. It's no exaggeration to say they were the best of the best.
We, on the other hand, have a crew of pirates."
They're smugglers. And we also have a general's daughter.
"Yes, how could I forget. I led young Aeliah in her first battle.
None of them are my first choice, but they've all shown themselves to be dedicated to protecting Elsweyr and its people. They will have to do."

After convincing Za'ji and his crew to join the Dragonguard, he'll say:

"Nahfahlaar and I have come to an agreement. We'll work together to defeat Laatvulon, but only that. After our battle is won, Nahfahlaar will peacefully depart from these lands.
Now, what did Za'ji say to my proposal?"
Za'ji agreed to join our Dragonguard and will speak to the rest of his crew on our behalf.
"Excellent. I'll meet with him and his crew to discuss the particulars.
For aiding me in the establishment of our new Dragonguard, accept this reward. Oh, and talk to Nahfahlaar when you have a moment. He requested your help with a small matter."

Uneasy AlliancesEdit

After speaking to Nahfahlaar, he'll say:

"Finding this Dragon will be no easy matter.
Perhaps Za'ji will have a better lay of the land. He's traveled a great deal over the course of his time as a ship captain. At the very least, he may know who we can speak to."

When you arrive at the sanctum after finding Nahfahlaar, Aeliah will be giving the news to Sai.

Sai Sahan: "There's nothing you could have done."
Aeliah Renmus: "I know, I know. I just wish we'd gotten there sooner."

Speak to him and he'll say:

"You did well today. Yahgrondu may not have joined us, but neither will his corpse become a tool of Laatvulon. A small victory, but a victory nonetheless.
Did you discover anything else?"
The cult is mining a strange green stone. Nahfahlaar thinks it can amplify magic.
"An army of Dragons with the means to amplify their power? That doesn't bode well.
I don't like that we're going into this fight blind. There's too much we don't know about Laatvulon and this cult of his. We need more information."
It sounds like you have a plan.
"I do, but first I have something for you. I found it in the sanctum's treasury.
But let's keep this between us. If a certain smuggling crew knew we had a treasury, they'd empty it faster than Za'ji can drain a bottle of plum brandy."

Order of the New MoonEdit

"If we can't outmatch our enemies, we must outwit them.
I want you to infiltrate the cult. Learn where their base of operations is located, how large a force they command. And, most importantly, what they plan to do next."
How do I infiltrate the cult?
"Aeliah believes the cult is recruiting in Senchal. I want you to find a recruiter and join their ranks. As a member of the cult, you'll be privy to a great deal of information.
But first, you'll want to speak with General Renmus."
Why do I need to check in with General Renmus?
"If there's cult activity in the city, Renmus should know something about it. I want you to see if he has any leads you can follow.
Aeliah's agreed to get you into the palace. No need to schedule another appointment."
I'll meet Aeliah at Senchal Palace then.

If you continue to speak to him, he'll give you a run-down:

"When you've learned all you can about the Dragon cult, return to the sanctum and report your findings."
I'd like to review what we've learned so far./Very well. I'd like to review what we've learned so far.
"A wise request. Our enemy is Laatvulon, a Dragon of great power and greater evil. He seeks to destroy Tamriel, though we do not yet know how he plans to do so.
We do know that he leads a large cult and has several Dragons working with him."
What do we know about Laatvulon's cult?
"They worship Laatvulon and seek to help him destroy our ally, Nahfahlaar. One of the cult's prominent members, the necromancer Ra'khajin, has demonstrated how they use a strange green stone to amplify magic."
And you think this green stone is important?
"You saw its power, not I. Did it not allow the necromancer to raise Yahgrondu from the dead to attack you?
Regardless, you must infiltrate the cult and learn more. Find out what they're up to. Why they follow Laatvulon."
What have you been up to, Sai?
"Training our new Dragonguard. The Pounce's crew may be the best smugglers in Elsweyr, but that doesn't make them Dragon hunters.
Luckily, I was able to outfit them with weapons and armor from the sanctum's stores."
So now they're ready to fight Dragons?
"They don't have a choice.
Their homeland has been invaded and they want to protect it. I'll do my best to help them, but there's only so much we can accomplish with the limited time we have."
It doesn't sound like you think we have any hope of defeating Laatvulon.
"There's always hope, my friend. Even in the darkest night, a candle can shine.
This is the time. To stand against this rage of Dragons. Victory isn't certain, but what in life ever is? We have to believe we have a chance, or all is lost."

As you leave, you'll hear Sai and Aeliah chatting:"If we can't outmatch our enemies, we must outwit them.

Aeliah Renmus : "I'll meet you outside the palace after I wash the stink of dead Dragon out of my armor."
Sai Sahan : "The stink. You get used to it."
Aeliah Renmus : "Ugh."

Return to him at the sanctum after exploring the New Moon Fortress and tell him what you witnessed.

"Report in, Dragonguard. Were you able to infiltrate Laatvulon's cult?"
Yes. They're called the Order of the New Moon and they're a sizable force.
"The Order of the New Moon? Strange. I've heard the Khajiit speak of Bright Moons, Dark Moons, even a Hidden Moon. But I do not know the significance of a New Moon.
What about the green stone you saw in the quarry? Did you learn more about it?"
It's called aeonstone. The cultists give their life energy to it to empower Laatvulon.
"And Nahfahlaar believes this aeonstone can enhance that energy as well.
By Leki's Blade, this looks grim. A sizable Dragon cult that's able to directly empower their Dragon gods."
There's more. They're mounting an attack on a place called Pridehome.
"Then we must do everything in our power to stop the attack.
Thanks to your efforts, my friend, we now know where the cult plans to strike next. Here, take this treasure from the sanctum's stores. You certainly earned it."

Pride of AlkoshEdit

After your infiltration of the New Moon, Sai will immediately set direct you to the next target, "We must speak about the attack on Pridehome."

However, while he knows that there will be an attack, he will ask you to question to Nahfahlaar while he rallies the rest of the order.

"We now know that the Order of the New Moon plans to strike against Pridehome.
While I don't doubt your information, I have no idea why the cult would target such a place. What could they possibly hope to gain by attacking a peaceful temple?"
I wasn't told the cult's objective. Is there anyone who might know more?
"Nahfahlaar might. He's dealt with Laatvulon in the past and may have a better understanding of the cult's motives. Why don't you talk with our Dragon ally?
Meanwhile, I'll rally the rest of our companions and head to Pridehome."
I'll speak with Nahfahlaar and meet you at Pridehome.

You can ask him more about the task at hand.

"Situated to the north, Pridehome sits on the outskirts of Tenmar Forest. I'll note the location on your map.
Hopefully, Nahfahlaar can shed some light on what the cult might want there."
What do you know about Pridehome?/I can try. Now, what do you know about Pridehome?
"It's a temple dedicated to the worship of Alkosh, the Dragon God of Time. A strikingly similar deity to the Imperial Akatosh.
I only know of Pridehome through the legends of Grandmaster Vashu-Pir and his fight with the Black Beast."
Who is Grandmaster Vashu-Pir?
"You haven't heard the tale?
"Pridehome, hear my call!" Vashu-Pir shouted. "The Black Beast scorches your land and devours your people. Only with the wisdom of Alkosh may I defeat this Dragon, and only with your help may I hear the Dragon God.""
So the Moon-Priests of Pridehome helped Vashu-Pir defeat a Dragon?
"I wouldn't take it quite so literally.
The Dragonguard always tried to show respect to the local population. They probably asked for Pridehome's blessing as a sign of goodwill. I doubt the priests helped in a direct manner"
How is Nahfahlaar doing?/Let's talk about our Dragon ally. How is Nahfahlaar doing?
"I couldn't tell you.
Nahfahlaar comes and goes as he pleases. He doesn't feel the need to report in to us mere mortals. Not that I expected courtesy from a Dragon, mind you."
It sounds like you're not very pleased with our Dragon ally.
"I won't deny that. If Nahfahlaar doesn't wish to fight alongside us, I'm not sure why he agreed to this alliance.
Perhaps you can get through to him. Make him understand that we need his help to defeat Laatvulon."

When you arrive at Pridehome, Sai Sahan is examining the corpse of a moon-priest.

Sai Sahan: "Search the area! We need to find out what the cult wants with Pridehome."

Speaking to him:

"I've sent the others ahead. I want you to check in with them and see if they've uncovered anything about the cult's motives.
I'll meet you deeper inside."

Speak with him before entering the temple grounds.

"The cultists moved through Pridehome swiftly. I suspect more await us beyond this gate.
The Moon-Priests here didn't even possess weapons to defend themselves with. Why would the Order of the New Moon attack this peaceful place?"
I'm not sure why, but I think they're after the Clan Mother.
"A Khajiiti wise woman? Hmm. Perhaps they seek her knowledge. It's said the Clan Mothers keep many secrets to themselves, often deceiving others with half-truths and riddles.
Do you know where this Clan Mother is?"
I'm told she fled through here to the inner temple. The cult wasn't far behind.
"Then let's hope we get to her before the cult does. We should get moving."

Speaking with him again:

"Let's make haste to the temple and find this Clan Mother."

Approaching the temple:

Sai Sahan: "The inner temple is just ahead. Let's move!"
Sai Sahan: "Look. Above us. Nahfahlaar! He decided to show up, after all."

Sai comments on the destruction when you reach the temple.

Sai Sahan: "So much death. What could possibly warrant this massacre?"
Caska: "Quick, walker! Get to the Clan Mother. We'll watch your back."
Aeliah Renmus: "You can count on us!"

Inside the temple:

Sai Sahan: "Sep's Scales. See if she's still breathing."

The Clan Mother passes.

Sai Sahan: "Step away, Dragonguard. She has passed."
Sai Sahan: "The Clan Mother spoke of the statue. We should examine it."

Speaking with him before reading the statue's inscription:

"I know it may seem cruel, but we can't abandon our mission. We'll see to the Clan Mother's body once we out this cult.
For now, let's examine the statue she spoke of."

Afterwards:

Sai Sahan: "Yes, of course. The statue wears a mask, doesn't it?"

Speak with him about the statue after reading the inscription.

"What did the inscription tell you?"
The statue represents Ja'darri. The inscription mentions a red beast's horn and a divine mask.
"Ja'darri? As in the Horn of Ja'darri? It seems Nahfahlaar has some explaining to do.
This Ja'darri must be part of the Pride of Alkosh, perhaps even its founder. Why else would they so prominently display her statue"
And Ra'khajin wants this divine mask, though we're not sure why.
"The Clan Mother requested we find the mask before Ra'khajin does, so I can only assume it's a relic of great power. Something we wouldn't want in the cult's hands.
We need to find this divine mask before the Order of the New Moon beats us to it."
But we have no idea where the mask is.
"Then let's see what our resident red beast thinks of all this.
Hopefully, Nahfahlaar is still nearby. Let's ask him about Ja'darri and the divine mask her statue wears. Perhaps this time he'll be more forthcoming."

Sai Sahan delivers the news after Clan Mother Hizuni's death.

Aeliah Renmus: "The Clan Mother?"
Sai Sahan: "We were too late. She's dead."
Moon-Priest Nuziwa: "How could Ra'khajin do this? Hizuni was a mother to him. To both of us."
Sai Sahan: "Fate will catch up with Ra'khajin eventually. We'll avenge—"
Nahfahlaar: "Vengeance means little to the dead, Dragonguard."

Speaking with him after Nahfahlaar arrives:

"Let's hope Nahfahlaar proves cooperative. Without his guidance, we'll never be able to recover this mask."

After speaking with Nahfahlaar, he flies off.

Nahfahlaar: "Seek the mask if you wish. I will deal with Laatvulon."
Za'ji: "Ugh. Another trip to mother's temple."
Caska: "Oh, no. I am not dealing with another one of your bouts of depression. Aeliah will go."
Aeliah Renmus: "I will? I mean, of course I will!"
Sai Sahan: "It's settled. You two will head to Khenarthi's temple and search for the mask."
Sai Sahan: "Caska, Za'ji. You're with me."

Speaking with him after this discussion:

"If you discover the location of this mask, don't hesitate. I trust you to follow up on any leads you might find."

Return to Sai Sahan at the sanctum after you've recovered the mask.

"My friend, you look like you've been to Oblivion and back. What matter [sic] of trial did you face?"
Quite a few, actually. I recovered the mask and killed Ra'khajin.
"By my honor, that's good to hear. With Ra'khajin slain and the mask in our possession, we're much closer to victory. And it's all because of your efforts.
Here, take this. Another interesting item I found in the sanctum's vaults."

The DragonguardEdit

The conversation continues from the last time you spoke.

"With his Dragon priest defeated and his plans foiled, Laatvulon is more vulnerable than ever before. We can't let this opportunity pass us by.
The time has come to put an end to this Order of the New Moon."
Nahfahlaar challenged Laatvulon, but I don't know where they are.
"Sep's Scales. Why would he challenge Laatvulon on his own?
This is no time for anger. I may not agree with Nahfahlaar's actions, but we need him to defeat the cult. We must find our Dragon ally."
How do you propose we find Nahfahlaar?
"Journey to Senchal and speak with General Renmus. I don't expect him to join us in our fight, but he may have reports concerning Nahfahlaar and Laatvulon's battle."
I'll speak with Renmus and see if he has any information on Nahfahlaar.

Before you have the chance to leave, General Renmus himself arrives in Nahfahlaar's Chamber.

General Renmus: "No need to travel to Senchal, Dragonguard."
General Renmus: "I owe all of you an apology. I thought I acted for the good of Senchal, but there is blood on my hands."
General Renmus: "If you'll have us, the Shields of Senchal will fight alongside the Dragonguard."
Sai Sahan: "We've always been on the same side. I'm glad you finally realized that."

Speaking with him before talking to General Renmus:

"I'm glad the general has come around. With Imperial soldiers at our side, we might just be able to defeat Laatvulon's forces."

Speaking with him after General Renmus:

"You should go on ahead and travel to this sentry tower.
Meanwhile, I'll discuss our battle plans with General Renmus. We'll meet with you as soon as we can."
I'd like to go over all that we've learned so far.
"Given that this may be our last attempt to stop Laatvulon, that seems like a wise decision. What do you wish to speak about?"
Let's talk about Nahfahlaar.
"Yes, let's talk about our Dragon ally.
We know that Nahfahlaar was able to trap Laatvulon centuries ago with the help of the Dragonguard. But there seems to be more to this story than he has been willing to share."
Such as?
"The Khajiiti warrior Ja'darri, for one.
According to the priests we rescued, she was the founder of both Pridehome and the Pride of Alkosh. She's also known for defeating a Demon from the East with the help of a powerful red Dragon."
And you believe that Nahfahlaar was this powerful red Dragon?
"It's only logical. After all, the Dragonguard named Nahfahlaar's horn after Ja'darri. He must have a connection to her.
It's something I mean to ask him, should we all survive our next battle."
The mask I found is suppose [sic] to give me the power of Alkosh, but it hasn't done anything./I was hoping to use the mask in our next battle, but I haven't felt any of Alkosh's power in it.
"Ancient relics are tricky things, my friend.
I was able to ask the priests of Pridehome about the mask, but they knew little beyond legends and songs. It seems those secrets died with Clan Mother Hizuni."
If Laatvulon wanted this mask, he must have known how to use it.
"Perhaps, though I doubt he'll tell us.
For now, we just need to make sure that the mask stays out of the hands of those who would misuse it. And who knows, perhaps it will reveal its power eventually."

Arrive at Doomstone Keep and Sai, Aeliah, and Renmus will be there already:

Sai Sahan: "Look! Above the ruins!"

Nahfahlaar is attacked by Laatvulon, and falls behind the keep walls.

Sai Sahan: "Nahfahlaar has fallen. We need to get into that keep."
Aeliah Renmus: "What are we going to do now?"
General Renmus: "Without reinforcements, we have no way to take the keep."
Sai Sahan: "As long as the Dragonguard still stand, there is always a way."

Speak to Sai:

"Damn that Dragon's pride. If Nahfahlaar had only broken off and regrouped with us.
It seems we have no choice but to rescue the beast. Are you with me?"
I'm with you, but what about the others?
"General Renmus will lead a secondary team to keep the cultists occupied. That should give us time to search for Nahfahlaar.
By Leki's Blade, I just hope he's still alive. We'll be hard pressed to take this keep without him."
Any reports about the Order of the New Moon?
"The cult is gathering around Laatvulon, most likely to empower him using their aeonstones. Yet another advantage they have over our forces."
I'm ready to fight.
"This is it, my friend. Our chance to prove ourselves. To prove that the Dragonguard still protects the people of this world.
You scout ahead and find a way forward. I'll join you in a moment."

If you speak to him before leaving, you can recap the situation again:

"If you have anything to say to our companions, I suggest you do so now. The battle ahead will be long and arduous, and we may not all survive."
Let's go over what we know about the Order of the New Moon.
"It's a large cult that's fanatically devoted to Laatvulon. They wish for Dragons to rule over Tamriel once more, and don't care what atrocities they must commit to make that happen.
There's also the mysterious stone they mine. Aeonstone."
What do we know about Laatvulon?
"He's a Dragon of considerable power.
Long ago, Nahfahlaar worked with the Dragonguard to defeat him. They were able to trap Laatvulon for centuries, but he recently escaped his prison and formed a cult to do his bidding."
And what does Laatvulon want?
"Nothing short of world domination. If he succeeds, Dragons will rule over Tamriel once more.
How precisely he plans to do this, we're not sure. But he has killed many, including his own kind, in order to make that desire a reality."
Tell me more about aeonstone.
"Aeonstone has the ability to absorb magical energy and amplify it.
The Order of the New Moon has been feeding their own spiritual energy to the stone in order to empower Laatvulon and his Dragon allies."
So this aeonstone makes Laatvuon and his Dragon followers more powerful?
"That seems to be the case.
It's likely the cult is empowering Laatvulon using the aeonstone at this very moment, and that power will make him a formidable foe. That's why it's important we find Nahfahlaar. We need a Dragon of our own."
What has the cult done so far?
"We first faced the Order of the New Moon when we reached the Dragonguard Sanctum. They were sent to slay Nahfahlaar and had no compunction about killing us in the process.
Once we dispatched most of their number, they fled."
And then the cult captured Yahgrondu in an aeonstone mine.
"And again we were blind to the cult's actions. We had no idea that they were mining aeonstone, nor that they had captured Yahgrondu.
And as a result, the Dragon died before he was able to ally with us."
That was when you asked me to infiltrate the cult.
"And you learned much from that infiltration, including the cult's plan to attack Pridehome. We may not have been able to save the temple, but we did learn key information before the Clan Mother died.
And then there's the mask."
The Mask of Alkosh. I was able to find the mask and kill Ra'khajin.
"And by doing so, you struck a crushing blow to the Order of the New Moon.
Not only were you able to defeat their Dragon Priest, you also ensured that Laatvulon couldn't use the mask."
How do you think our Dragonguard will fare in this final battle?
"If you asked me that question when this began, I would have had few words of hope.
But we faced many trials together, this Dragonguard. We fought the Order of the New Moon and made it to our final battle."
But can we win?
"Hope is a flickering flame, Dragonguard. Do not let the winds of doubt blow it out.
We may not win, we may not live, but we always have the choice to fight. And so I shall, until my last breath."
So you would rather fight and die than give up now.
"Even if we die, the fires of our legacy shall burn forever. Others will be inspired by our bravery, by our willingness to fight against unbeatable odds.
If we are defeated here, the fight against Laatvulon shall continue. I'm sure of it."

Enter Doomstone Caverns and Sai will give you a warning.

Sai Sahan: "Stay sharp. We don't know what might lurk in these caverns."

Speak to him here and he'll say:

"By Leki's Blade, I just hope Nahfahlaar is still breathing. Without his aid, defeating Laatvulon and his forces becomes a far more difficult task."

Go to the overlook to the large room and Sai will announce:

Sai Sahan: "That looks like Nahfahlaar, down below! Let's see if we can find a way to get to him."

In the next room, you'll see a statue.

Sai Sahan: "Hold a moment. There's some kind of message written on that tablet."

If you speak to him he'll tell you:

"An inscription in a cavern like this could hold great importance. Let's read it before we proceed."

Read the inscription and he'll say:

Sai Sahan: "In a rather roundabout way, it seems like this tablet is telling us how to move forward."

Speak to him here and he'll say:

"It seems there's more to Doomstone Keep than first meets the eye.
The inscription says to create light with a divine mask, which I can only assume refers to the Mask of Alkosh. Did the Pride of Alkosh occupy this keep?"
The inscription also mentions a fight with the Black Beast.
"Yes, the Black Beast. One of the Dragonguard's greatest foes, a Dragon of mighty power. Which would indicate that this inscription was written by the Dragonguard. But what were they doing here?
The Dragonguard and the Pride of Alkosh …."
There must be some connection between them.
"We're getting ahead of ourselves. We need to find Nahfahlaar, first and foremost.
According to this inscription, the mask can somehow be used to light fires. We should search for unlit torches or braziers."

Speaking with him again:

"The Mask of Alkosh should be able to create a flame of some sort, which will allow us to learn about a battle with the Black Beast. Once we've lit all the fires, the path will open.
Or so the inscription tell us."

Find the first brazier and he'll say:

Sai Sahan: "There. Let's see if the mask responds to that brazier."

The flames light up a nearby tapestry.

Sai Sahan: "That must be the Black Beast facing off against the Dragonguard. It looks like a Khajiiti warrior is leading them. Perhaps she was a member of the Pride of Alkosh?"

While you look for unlit braziers he'll only tell you:

"We need to find the rest of the braziers and ignite their flames."

Light the second fire, and he'll remark:

Sai Sahan: "The Khajiiti warrior from before. She claimed the Mask of Alkosh, just as you did. Wait. Could she possibly be Ja'darri?"

At the third brazier, he'll say:

Sai Sahan: "That's Nahfahlaar. Ja'darri is offering him the Mask of Alkosh, but he's refusing her. It seems to symbolize something, though I'm not sure what."

At the final brazier, he'll say:

Sai Sahan: "By Leki's Blade, I understand now. The Black Beast is Laatvulon! The Dragonguard sealed him away, though it cost Ja'darri her life. And Nahfahlaar is nowhere to be seen."

Speak to him and he'll explain:

"Ja'darri joined the Dragonguard to take down a fearsome Dragon. The Pride of Alkosh called him the Demon from the East, while the Dragonguard named him the Black Beast.
But his true name is Laatvulon."
There was also a tapestry depicting Ja'darri with the Mask of Alkosh.
"Precisely. She must have needed the mask's power to defeat Laatvulon.
Ja'darri and the Dragonguard had another ally as well. Nahfahlaar. He gave them his own horn to use against Laatvulon, but he also refused Ja'darri something."
Something that involved the Mask of Alkosh.
"And then the final battle. Ja'darri fell, but the Dragonguard was still able to trap Laatvulon. For centuries he was sealed away, beneath this very keep.
Until he escaped, that is. Which leads us to today's battle."
Nahfahlaar may be able to tell us more.
"What I'm interested in is how Ja'darri was able to use the Mask of Alkosh against Laatvulon. Though I suspect Nahfahlaar may have some insight on that as well.
We should continue our search."

Speaking to him again:

"Let's make our way to the next chamber. With any luck, we'll find Nahfahlaar there."

In the next room, you'll be back to Nahfahlaar, clearly distressed:

Sai Sahan: "Nahfahlaar!"

Speaking with Sai here:

"Speak to Nahfahlaar, my friend. He seems gravely injured."

After talking to Nahfahlaar and having him awakening the Mask of Alkosh in The Spilling Sand, you'll return to hear Sai shout:

Sai Sahan "We can reach the surface this way. Let's move out!"

Speak to him and he'll say:

"The time has finally come to defeat Laatvulon once and for all! He falls this day or we do."

A little ways on, you'll see Laatvulon:

Sai Sahan: "The cultists use the aeonstone to empower Laatvulon. We must hurry!"

Make your way to Laatvulon for battle and Sai will cry:

Sai Sahan: "We must aid Nahfahlaar! Dragonguard, to me!"
Sai Sahan: "This way! Quickly!"

After you defeat Laatvulon, he'll eulogize:

Sai Sahan: "We fought hard for this victory, Dragonguard. To save the people of Elsweyr, of all Tamriel, from Laatvulon's tyranny."
Sai Sahan: "But our battle does not end here. Like those who came before, we'll fight the Dragons that plague this land until the day that plague ends."
Sai Sahan: "And for all those who lost their lives today I say this prayer. May your flames burn eternal."

Return to the Dragonguard Sanctuary and you'll find Sai in his "office".

Sai Sahan: "Just the warrior I wanted to speak to."

Speak with him.

"At long last, we defeated the Black Beast.
Today we finished a battle the Dragonguard began centuries ago. A fitting start to our own order, I must say."
Where's Nahfahlaar?
"Brooding, as usual. Nahfahlaar may have pulled through as our ally, but he's still not one for socializing with mere mortals.
He did say he wished to speak to you when you returned."
I'll go speak with Nahfahlaar, then.
"If the subject comes up, let Nahfahlaar know that he's welcome to recover in our sanctum. He's our ally and the Dragonguard takes care of its own."
How are you feeling after our victory?
"Far more confident of our Dragonguard, I must admit.
When we first formed our order, all I saw was a ragtag band of smugglers, ill experienced and naive in the ways of battle."
And one general's daughter.
"Ah, yes, young Aeliah. How could I forget.
But now I look around me and I see soldiers, tried and true. Warriors who were willing to lay down their lives to protect Elsweyr. And if that's not in the spirit of the Dragonguard, I don't know what is."
And what about you, Captain Sai Sahan?
"Captain. Yes, I suppose I am, aren't I?
It's been a long time since I last held that rank. I failed to uphold my duty, then. I allowed my emperor to die, and watched as our empire fell into the clutches of Daedra."
And now?
"And now I have another chance to make things right. Not in the empire, perhaps, but here in a land that has a great need for a Dragonguard to watch over it.
And I expect your help as well, my friend. As always."

Speak to him before starting the epilogue quests, and he'll say:

"For as long as Dragons ravage this land, our Dragonguard will be here to slay them.
I hope you'll continue to do your part as well, my friend. There are no shortages of tasks for someone with your abilities."

The Dark AeonEdit

If you exit the conversation from the previous quest, he calls out to you.

Sai Sahan: "Ah, the Dragonguard arrives."

Entering Nahfahlaar's chamber after accepting the quest from Sidura:

Nahfahlaar: "Hmm. That scent on the air. The mask-bearer approaches."
Sai Sahan: Good. Now we're just waiting for … him."

Speak with him. His greeting will be different depending on your progress in the Main Quest. If you haven't completed it:

"Just in time, my friend. When my old companion arrives, I'd prefer to have someone I trust at my side."
Our [sic] old companion?
"Abnur Tharn. According to his letter, the two of you worked together again after the Prophet incident. He even praised you. I know, it surprised me, too.
The old snake also said he's bringing a friend. That we have important business to discuss."
Important business? And what friend?
"I know as much as you do. He just mentioned a threat to Southern Elsweyr. Between Tharn's cryptic letter and Nahfahlaar's strange mood, I'm feeling uneasy myself.
Talk to the Dragon. Find out what troubles him while I wait for Tharn."
I'll talk to Nahfahlaar.

If you have completed God of Schemes, the conversation will go as follows:

"My friend, you arrived just in time. I'd prefer not to face our old companion without you."
Our old companion?
"Abnur Tharn. According to his letter, the two of you worked together again after the Planemeld debacle. He even praised you. Didn't think Tharn was capable of such a thing.
The old snake also said he's bringing a friend along to discuss important business."
Important business? And what friend?
"He didn't elaborate on either subject. Just mentioned a threat to Southern Elsweyr. Between Tharn's cryptic letter and Nahfahlaar's strange mood, I'm feeling out of sorts.
Talk to Nahfahlaar. Find out what troubles him while I prepare for Tharn."
I'll talk to Nahfahlaar.

If you've never met Abnur Tharn before:

"We served together as part of the Five Companions, helping Emperor Aquilarios recover the Amulet of Kings. I have conflicted feelings about those days.
We've been exchanging letters recently. I've informed him about Nahfahlaar and the Dragonguard."

You can ask him more questions before speaking to Nahfahlaar.

"I appreciate you dealing with Nahfahlaar. The Dragon senses my unease over Tharn's letter, which only makes his own anxiety more pronounced.
Meanwhile, I need to keep myself from thrashing the old battlemage the moment I see him."
I'm sensing that you and Abnur Tharn don't get along.
"Abnur Tharn is conceited, opinionated, condescending, and a pain in my arse. And those are his good qualities!
All that said, I have the utmost respect for the battlemage. When danger appears, we could do worse than to have Abnur on our side."
You said Nahfahlaar is acting strangely. How, exactly?
"He paces. He grumbles. He refuses to speak except in riddles. And he's only gotten worse since Tharn's letter arrived and my own mood soured.
We both know something terrible gathers strength in the wilderness. We just don't know what it is."
You have no idea what Abnur Tharn wants to meet about?
"His letter indicated a threat to Southern Elsweyr, but that was the extent of his revelations. I suppose he wants to tell us in person. Prudent, if frustrating.
After all, one should never commit certain details to paper."
Tharn's not the same man he once was.
"[sic] beginning to sense that. We've been corresponding. I told him about Nahfahlaar and the Dragonguard.
While he still punctuates every sentence with an insult, he seems genuinely concerned. That's different from the man we once adventured with."

A portal appears after you speak with Nahfahlaar.

Sai Sahan: "A portal? Here? See what you can make of it."

Speaking with him before investigating the portal:

"I've seen Abnur Tharn use portals. That does not look like one of his.
Be ready for anything, my friend."

Khamira and Abnur Tharn will appear in Nahfahlaar's Chamber after you investigate the portal. Khamira has used a portal to get here.

Khamira: "Moons, Tharn! How do you stand it? My head pounds like an Orc drum!"
Abnur Tharn: "You get used to it. And that was your best one yet."
Sai Sahan: "Abnur Tharn! you arrogant, vexatious, son of a bleary-eyed—"
Abnur Tharn: "Save your posturing, Sai. I missed you, too, but we have a bigger problem to deal with."

Speaking to him after Tharn arrives:

"Tharn … he casually picks up right where he left off.
You talk to the man. He appears to have some modicum of respect for you."

The following exchange will occur after you address Abnur Tharn:

Sai Sahan: "Strange green stone? Does that sound like what you're looking for, Tharn?"
Abnur Tharn: "Indeed! Since I read about it in your reports, I've wanted to examine it. Khamira, can you—"
Khamira: "No more portals, Tharn. Not right now. I have duties other than conveying you around, you know."
Abnur Tharn: "Oh, very well. Sai, let's talk. We'll meet our friend at the fortress."

Speaking with him after addressing Abnur Tharn:

"A Dragon that wants to be a god? As ridiculous as that sounds, Tharn's reaction tells me that this Kaalgrontiid poses a serious threat not just to Southern Elsweyr. He endangers the entire world!
We'll meet you at the New Moon Fortress."

When you arrive in front of the New Moon Fortress, it is clear that Tharn is exhausted.

Sai Sahan: "You need to rest, old man. Don't pretend otherwise."
Abnur Tharn: "If you … insist."

Speak with Sai Sahan.

"I expected the New Moon cultists to disperse after the death of Laatvulon. I suppose Kaalgrontiid has other ideas.
We need to determine how the cultists reach the Dragon's protected island."
The cultists were stockpiling aeonstone in some sort of amphitheater.
"And according to Tharn, the cult operates both here and on the island. They must have a way to get from here to there.
The stockpile of aeonstone and this amphitheater are as good a place to start our search as any."
Caska and I entered over there.
"That entrance has most likely been sealed in response to what you and she accomplished here.
A structure as ancient as this must have other entrances, though. Let's find one and make our way to the amphitheater."
What about Tharn? He doesn't look too well.
"Tharn will be fine. He just needs to catch his breath. Which means I get a few blissful moments without listening to his scathing observations.
Now let's move quickly. Kaalgrontiid must be dealt with before he can complete his ascension."
Any idea where we should look for another entrance?
"The fortress is built atop the cliffside and a river runs along its base.
There must be another way into the fortress along the river. I can feel it in my beard."

Reaching the river:

Sai Sahan: "We need to find another way in. Let's follow the river."
Sai Sahan: "Across here. I have a feeling …."

Reaching the bank on the other side:

Sai Sahan: "This looks promising."

When you find another way into the fortress, the following exchange occurs between Sai and Tharn:

Abnur Tharn: "You found a way inside. And without my help. Good."
Sai Sahan: "Back on your feet, old man? Let me know if you need a litter."
Abnur Tharn: "A jest? I find it hard to tell through all that facial hair. Now focus. We'll need your fighting skills inside."
Sai Sahan: "Hmm."

Speaking with him here:

"Tharn's stamina isn't as robust as I remember, but I'll never forget that acerbic tone.
Once inside, we'll need all our talents to navigate this nest of vipers, so stay alert."

Inside the fortress, Tharn begins to ruminate.

Abnur Tharn: "You never cease to surprise me, Sai."
Sai Sahan: "What now, old man?"
Abnur Tharn: "In the past, I considered you nothing more than Varen's muscle. But here you are, leading a new generation of Dragonguard."
Sai Sahan: "Your point, Tharn?"
Abnur Tharn: "Just contemplating how some people adapt to change."
Sai Sahan: "Some seek change, others have it forced upon them."
Abnur Tharn: "Wisdom from an empty well, here in the belly of our enemy. Let's stick to the matter at hand, shall we?"

Speaking with him:

"Stay quiet and keep close. At the moment, surprise is on our side. I'd like to maintain that advantage."

Speaking to him before entering the amphitheater:

"The prospect of meeting Kaalgrontiid fills me with a mixture of excitement and dread. I want to see what happens when he experiences a blast from the Horn of Ja'darri."

When you enter the amphitheater, Tharn confronts Kaalgrontiid, who is overseeing a portal to the island of Dragonhold. Kaalgrontiid flies off and his portal closes.

Abnur Tharn: "Kaalgrontiid!"
Kalgrontiid: "You shall be the first to behold the rise of the Dark Aeon!"
Sai Sahan: "The portal just closed. Tharn, can you open it?"
Abnur Tharn: "Perhaps, but not by myself. Champion, let's talk."

Speaking with him before Tharn:

"Our way to the island was just here! Talk to Tharn and get the old mage to open it while there's still time."

Speaking with him after addressing Tharn:

"Be careful. Magic is a tricky business, especially in Tharn's hands."

After you energize the aeonstone, Tharn opens a portal to Dragonhold.

Abnur Tharn: "Good, good. The aeonstones hum with energy."
Abnur Tharn: "That should allow me to open the portal to Dragonhold."
Abnur Tharn: "This is … harder than I thought …."
Abnur Tharn: "It's open … our way to the island. Sai, go prepare the Dragonguard …."
Sai Sahan: "Go? You can barely stand, old man!"
Abnur Tharn: "Don't argue with me. Kaalgrontiid's plans near completion … and it will take all of us to stop him. Go!"
Sai Sahan: "Damn you, Tharn. I'll go, but you better not die before I return."

You cannot speak with him after Tharn works his magic on the charged aeonstones. You rejoin him and Khamira on the mainland after Tharn sends you back down from Dragonhold, which Kaalgrontiid's minions have managed to lift from the sea through their rituals.

Khamira: "Over here! I told you I sensed Tharn's magic."
Sai Sahan: "Then where is—by the sacred sons of Yokuda! Up in the sky!"

Speaking with him before Khamira:

"An island … in the sky? I have no words to make sense of that."

Speaking to him after talking to Khamira:

"Queen Khamira speaks true. We must return to the Dragonguard Sanctum and gather our forces.
Go on. We'll meet you there."

When you arrive at the Sanctum, you will witness the conversation between the Dragonguard, Khamira and Nafahlaar before the dragon flies off to Dragonhold. You can then speak with Sai:

"That Dragon has no sense of propriety. Flying off without so much as a "by your leave!"
Without him or Tharn, we'll need to devise our own method for reaching Dragonhold, but by the Sword Saints, I have no idea what that might be."
There must be some way to reach the floating island.
"And we'll find that way. Somehow. For now, rest. Prepare yourself.
And take this for your efforts. Remember, you confirmed Kaalgrontiid's plan and removed Dragonhold's protection. We're one step closer to ending this, my friend."

New Moon RisingEdit

If you approach him he may utter, "There must be a way to reach Dragonhold." You can then discuss with him ideas of how to reach the floating island:

"I refuse to be stymied by a hovering land mass!
The floating island could be part of Kaalgrontiid's plan, but it could also mean he wanted privacy for his final push toward ascension. Either way, we need to find a way to get up there."
What about the portal at the New Moon Fortress?
"I considered that option, but without a mage of Abnur Tharn's abilities and experience, we have no way to activate the aeonstones.
No, we'll need to come up with a different solution."
Anything in the Dragonguard records you've been studying?
"As far as I know, this is the first time the Dragonguard has faced this particular obstacle.
We need to find a way to get up to that island and we need to do so quickly. Talk to Queen Khamira. Her portal magic may turn out to be our only option."
I'll talk to Khamira and see what she thinks.
"Talk to Queen Khamira. You're no Abnur Tharn, but you were with her when she gained her powers. Maybe you can help her come to grips with her portal magic."

When Khamira tries to draw on Anequina's memories through attunement, the Alfiq spirit will appear again before her.

Khamira: "Anequina … reveal your memories to me …."
<The Spirit Alfiq throws an orb of hazy blue light at her and then lies down watching Khamira. Anequina then speaks through Khamira.>
Khamira: "The answer you seek … resides in the cavern of the Moon's sacred light …."
<Sai Sahan then arrives, confused by what he just witnessed.>
Sai Sahan: "That was … I don't know what that was! Queen Khamira, are you all right?"

You can speak with him before Khamira:

"I heard rumors that Queen Khamira was moon-touched, but that was … disconcerting.
Tell me, my friend. Does she fall into trances like that very often?"
I've seen it happen from time to time.
"But what was that about the cavern of the moon's sacred light? Sounds like another riddle. I'm beginning to hate riddles."

After speaking with Khamira and learning the location of the "answer", Sai Sahan will mention he'll catch up to you.

"Moonlit Cove? Some sort of holy place, if I recall. Then again, you can't walk ten steps without running into a Khajiiti holy place. This land is full of them.
If that is where we must go, so be it. I will meet you there after I see to the queen."

When you arrive at Moonlit Cove, he will be waiting for you inside:

Sai Sahan: "Good, you found the place. Let's talk."

He will have additional information about what you are looking for:

"Queen Khamira recalled one last thing before I left her side. It took her a moment to understand what the vision was showing her, but she shared that knowledge with me.
I know what we're looking for in this place."
What are we looking for?
"A door. An ancient door hidden behind a waterfall. Somewhere to the southwest, she thinks.
But we're not alone here. The place is crawling with pirates. Be on your guard."

Sai will be enraged by the desecration of cove by the Ruddy Fangs:

"These … criminals! How dare these pirates desecrate this holy place!
Unfortunately, we have a bigger concern than a gang of pirates. Let's find that waterfall and the hidden door."

If you begin to walk in the wrong direction, you and Sai will momentarily part ways:

Sai Sahan: "That's the wrong way. If you have something else to do, by all means. I'll meet up with you later."

Approaching the area again:

Sai Sahan: "So good of you to return. Now let's find that door."

Once you find the door hidden behind the waterfall:

Sai Sahan: "Just as Queen Khamira said. A door hidden behind a waterfall!"

The door will have a ward on it, you can discuss with Sai your next steps:

"I'd say placing an ancient corridor and its matching door behind a waterfall counts as hidden. I wonder what's behind it that will help us reach Dragonhold?"
Let's open it and find out.
"Not so fast, my eager associate. See that tablet on the wall? It appears that parts of it are missing.
I've seen elaborate locks such as this in the past."
Can we force the door?
"Not with that aura of magic that surrounds it. I'll wait here and guard the place against those pirates. You go and find the missing pieces of the tablet."
I'll look for the missing tablet pieces.

Speaking to him again:

"You try to find those missing pieces of the tablet while I make sure those pirates keep their distance."

Once you have all of the missing fragments, you can return to Sai Sahan:

Sai Sahan: "Were you successful, my friend? I fear without the restored tablet we won't open this door."

Speaking with him:

"Other than dealing with a few stray pirates, things have been quiet here.
Tell me, were you able to find the missing fragments of the tablet?"
I found the pieces of the tablet.
"Good. Fit them together and see what the intact tablet has to say. Maybe it contains a clue as to how to open this blasted door."

After restoring the tablet:

Sai Sahan: "The fragments fit together? What does it say?"
Sai Sahan: "Anequina … Flinthild … Nurarion …."
Sai Sahan: "Those names. From the legends Abnur goes on and on about. The Khajiiti hero, Khunzar-ri."
<The ward on the door, disappears and the door unlocks.>
Sai Sahan: "Khajiit and their riddles. But when I said Khunzar-ri's name, the aura disappeared. Try the door now."

Speaking with him before entering the tomb:

"When I said the name, Khunzar-ri, the aura that surrounded the door disappeared. If that isn't an invitation, I don't know what is.
Go on. I expect we're about to enter an ancient Khajiiti tomb. Let's see what waits inside."

Once you enter the tomb, Sai Sahan will look around in awe:

Sai Sahan: "Could this really be the tomb of Kunzar-ri?"
<The Spirit Alfiq then appears on the path to the sarcophagus.>
Sai Sahan: "And a ghostly cat? Do you see it too, my friend?"

Speaking with him before opening the sarcophagus:

"We came all this way. You might as well see what's inside."

Once the spirit of Khunzar-ri appears, Sai will delegate the talking to you:

"You talk to the ghost cat. It seems to know you."

After speaking with Khunzar-ri he will be reluctant to technically defile the burial remains:

"I'm not touching the remains of a Khajiit legend! You grab the claw."

Once you take the claw, the spirit will take his leave:

Khunzar-ri: "Take Zar's claw to the Anequina of this age. She can use it to get your kra'jun to Dragonhold."
Khunzar-ri: "Now, accept this final gift. A quick path back to your kra'jun. That is where this story truly begins!"
<Khunzar-ri's spirit disappears and a portal to the sanctum appears.>
Sai Sahan: "All this way for the remains of a legend? I hope Queen Khamira knows what to do with it."

Speaking with him before entering the portal:

"Take the claw to Queen Khamira. Hopefully, it will provide her with the insight she needs to find us a path to Dragonhold."

Arriving back at the sanctum, Sai Sahan will apparently have been teleported into the sea:

Sai Sahan: "Into the bay? Really? I think the ghost cat did that on purpose!"
Sai Sahan: "Bring the claw to Queen Khamira while I rally the Dragonguard."

After bringing the claw to Khamira, you will need to report to Sai. As you approach his office, he cna be overheard giving orders to your fellow Dragonguard:

Sai Sahan: "General Renmus and the Shields will protect Senchal. If we can't assault Dragonhold, we'll direct our efforts to supporting the Shields."

Speak with him.

"Has Queen Khamira solved our transportation issue? The Dragonguard is eager to at long last take the battle to Kaalgrontiid."
Khamira is studying the claw now. What's General Renmus doing here?
"Despite our past differences, the general did come through when we needed him. I extended an invitation and he decided to accept.
Of course, he mostly came to find out what we could tell him about the floating island."
Do we have the support of the Shields of Senchal?
"General Renmus wishes us success in our mission, but he won't leave Senchal undefended.
It falls to the Dragonguard to assault Kaalgrontiid's stronghold. The general's forces will remain in reserve, protecting the city and ready to act if we fail."
Then we're on our own.

After this, Khamira will come racing up the stairs, she has figured out that she can use the claw for.

Speaking with him before talking to Khamira:

"It sounds like Queen Khamira has made some progress. Talk to her and find out if she can get us to Dragonhold."

Once you have spoken with Khamira, she will open a portal to the so-called Jonelight Path and order the rest of Dragonguard to stay behind to defend Senchal while you and Sai accompany her.

Sai Sahan will be concerned:

"Leave the Dragonguard behind? I hope Queen Khamira knows what she's doing. Still, I understand the precaution. She shows wisdom by formulating an alternate strategy.
The Dragonguard will stand ready. I'll join you in the portal."

Sai Sahan is welcomed to the Jonelight Path by the spirit of Khunzar-ri

When you arrive on the Jonelight Path, Khunzar-ri will appear again to guide you through. If you speak with Sai, he will be looking around cautiously:

"This place … I do not trust what my eyes see … and neither should you, my friend."

As you travel the path, he will occasionally comment on his surroundings:

Sai Sahan: "Don't look down … don't look down …."
Sai Sahan: "This place, it goes on forever! So many islands, but no way to reach them."

Once you reach the end of the path, you can speak with Sai Sahan before entering the portal. At this point, he is sick of them:

"Another portal! If we survive this, I swear to never step foot in one of these again."

When you arrive on Dragonhold, a quirk with portals will have you be the last one to exit. Sai will be waiting for you on the stairs:

Sai Sahan: "Portals. You enter first and emerge last. Even time refuses to work correctly around such magic. Come, Queen Khamira and Nahfahlaar are up ahead."

You will then be lead to Khamira and Nahfahlaar. If you speak with him before Khamira you can ask him about the dragon:

"Islands were not meant to fly and we were not meant to walk upon them while they do so! Let's get this over with before everything comes crashing down.
Nahfahlaar arrived shortly before you did. With a Dragon beside us, we may just stand a chance."
What's Nahfahlaar doing here?
"Our intention was always to attack Kaalgrontiid together. Nahfahlaar went to deal with the lesser Dragons, then came here to meet us.
Queen Khamira asked him to make a quick pass of the island. It appears he discovered something significant."
So Kaalgrontiid hasn't completed his ascension?
"If Kaalgrontiid finished becoming the New Moon—the Dark Aeon—we'd already be dead. If he becomes a god, all is lost.
We have a Dragonhorn, the Mask of Alkosh, and a moon-touched queen. Let's pray that's enough to stop Kaalgrontiid."

After hearing Khamira and Nahfahlaar's plan to deal with the aeonstone focal points, Sai will agree if you talk to him about it:

"I agree with Nahfahlaar and Queen Khamira. Destroying the stones at these focal points seems our most prudent course of action.
Let's get to it."

After you kill some of the Dark Aeon creatures, Sai will notice something happening:

Sai Sahan: "Every time you kill one of those Dark Aeon creatures, your mask glows with power!"

Once you destroy the first aeonstone formation:

Kaalgrontiid: "Who dares attempt to stop my ascension?"
Sai Sahan: "It appears our efforts have displeased Kaalgrontiid. Good."
Khamira: "Then let us press the advantage while we have it!"

Speaking with him:

"Nahfahlaar may have dissuaded the Dragons from aiding Kaalgrontiid, but who knew he could call forth spirits of Dark Aeon to fight for him?
Between them and the remaining cultists, we're certainly working up a sweat!"

Speaking with him after destroying the second aeonstone formation:

"It's strange for a Dragonguard to admit this, but Nahfahlaar has been invaluable to our mission thus far.
Let's keep going."

Entering Dragonhold Ruins:

Sai Sahan: "These ruins … could they be part of the complex you explored with Tharn?"
Khamira: "If tharn still lives, he could have taken refuge inside."
Sai Sahan: "We'll find him, Queen Khamira. I've seen Tharn survive worse things than a floating island."
Khamira: "Moons help him, but I suspect Tharn has more to worry about than the floating island."

As you approach the third focal point:

Sai Sahan: "The focal point should be just up ahead."

After destroying the third focal point, the path will be clear to the summit:

"We've dealt with more than enough of those Dark Aeon spirits. I want to see what happens when I sound my horn at Kaalgrontiid's black heart!"

As you continue along the path to the summit:

Khamira: "That was the last of the focal points. Now to deal with Kaalgrontiid."
Sai Sahan: "As you say, Queen Khamira."
Khamira: "I sense something up ahead …."
Sai Sahan: "Another obstacle? It won't stop us."

As you continue down the path, you will find who Khamira sensed, none other than Abnur Tharn. Sai will be thrilled:

"Tharn is still with us! By Leki's blade, that improves our chances a thousandfold!"

Speaking with him after talking to Abnur Tharn:

"I am ready, my friend. Leki guide our swords!"

On the final leg of your journey through Dragonhold, Sai will talk to Tharn, who waives off any concern:

Sai Sahan: "Are you up to this, old man?"
Abnur Tharn: "Don't concern yourself about me. Just remember, Kaalgrontiid is perched atop a gigantic shard of aeonstone that pulses with enough power to destroy the continent."
Abnur Tharn: "Concentrate on … the task at hand."

Once you arrive at the gates to the summit where Kaalgrontiid waits, the group will pause for some final words:

"We have reached the precipice, my friend. Whatever happens next will decide the fate of our world.
Either way, it has been a pleasure to fight at your side. May Ruptga guide our hearts."

Facing Kaalgrontiid

As you enter the summit, Sai Sahan will head to the central area where he will help you fight in melee. During the fight, Kaalgrontiid takes flight during certain points. Sai Sahan will point you towards the grapple points, one of which Tharn has placed a protective spell over.

Sai Sahan: "Champion, use your grapple-bow to get to safety!"
Sai Sahan: "Your grapple-bow! Use it to avoid his shouts!"
Sai Sahan: "Prepare your grapple-bow! A huge attack is coming!"

After Kaalgrontiid's death there will still be a major problem—the power Kaalgrontiid was gathering has not disappeared:

Khamira: "We … we actually did it. We killed Kaalgrontiid!"
Sai Sahan: "The island. It's shaking apart. What's happening?"
Abnur Tharn: "The energy in the aeonstone … we need to contain it before it explodes!"

Once you speak with Tharn, he and Nahfahlaar begin to contain the explosion.

Nahfahlaar: "I will do what I can, mage."
Abnur Tharn: "Get them out of here, Khamira. I know you can do it."
Khamira: "Tharn …."
Sai Sahan: "Tharn will do what he always does. He'll save Tamriel."
Sai Sahan: "We need to get out of here. Nahfahlaar, can you fly us off the island?"
Nahfahlaar: "I must aid the wizard or the explosion will destroy everything."
Khamira: "Moons take you, Tharn! I suppose I have to try …."
<Khamira opens a portal.>
Khamira: "Jode give me … strength …. There! Hurry, my friends, into the portal!"

After you enter the portal, you will wake up on the mainland where you arrive the last time you teleported off Dragonhold. Khamira will be looking out at where the island once was. When you talk with her, she will mention that Sai went back to the Dragonguard Sanctum ahead of you.

When you return to the sanctum, Aeliah and Sai will call you over.

Aeliah Renmus: "Look who's back!"
Sai Sahan: "Ah, the Dragonguard's finest! Let us talk."

You can then speak with Sai Sahan to confirm Kaalgrontiid is really dead and to receive a reward.

"Good to see you up and walking about. You were dead to the world after we escaped Dragonhold."
So it's really over? We killed Kaalgrontiid?
"After we finish saving Elsweyr from the Dragons. You are still with me in this, five-claw? You and Abnur Tharn both? We ended one threat but two more remain.
I will go on without you, but I would rather have you at my side for what is to come."
Tharn saved us all, but I can't help but wonder what comes next.
"Whatever it is, we'll be ready for it.
For now, though, I owe you a debt as well. Without your help, the Dragonguard would never have been reborn. We succeeded beyond my expectations. Take this. And know that there will also be a place for you here."

The Pride of ElsweyrEdit

Speak with him to start the quest.

"We did it, my friend! We reformed the Dragonguard and put an end to Kaalgrontiid. Not bad, if I do say so myself.
I do have one last favor to ask. It concerns Nahfahlaar."
What about Nahfahlaar?
"He returned shortly after we did, but he's been acting strangely. He won't talk to me. Won't tell me what happened up there after Abnur ….
He trusts you. Can you check on him for me?"
Where is Nahfahlaar?
"Upstairs, in his chamber. He seems … troubled about everything that happened.
Talk to him. Find out what occurred on Dragonhold after we left."
I'll talk to Nahfahlaar.

You can ask him a question before leaving to confront Nahfahlaar.

"Talk to Nahfahlaar. See if he can shed any light on what happened up there at the end.
And check in with the rest of the Dragonguard, if you have the time. They all want a moment with the hero of Dragonhold."
The hero of Dragonhold?
"Za'ji's words, not mine. Oh, you accomplished amazing things in your time with us … Laatvulon, Kaalgrontiid …. But such titles, they mean more to the admirers than they do to the admired.
Our Dragonguard is young. Let them have their heroes."

After speaking with Nahfahlaar, Sai Sahan enters the room.

Nahfahlaar: "We may meet again, mask-bearer. The world is not so very large. And do not worry about the mask. Like me, it will bide its time until it is again needed."
Nahfahlaar: "Tell the Dragonguard. They have my respect."
Sai Sahan: "Nahfahlaar … he's gone?"
"I heard the wings. Nahfahlaar has left us? Probably for the best, all things considered.
Were you able to get him to tell you what happened on Dragonhold before the island totally broke apart?"
He helped Tharn contain the explosion. They saved Tamriel. He didn't know Abnur's fate, though.
"Tharn's a tough old goat. If there was a way to survive, he'd find it. I just … I don't think there was.
Oh, I almost forgot. We received a summons from Queen Khamira. She wants to see us—all of us—in Senchal."
Did Khamira say anything else?
"She was being rather cryptic, but I think she wants to throw a celebration. Honor the Dragonguard and all that.
Beforehand, however, she wants to talk to you. You can find her in Senchal Palace."
I'll go to Senchal and find Khamira.

You can ask him a question before leaving for Senchal.

"Queen Khamira impressed me, my friend. It isn't every ruler who readily puts themselves in harm's way for the sake of their people. Tamriel could use a dozen more like her."
Khamira invited the entire Dragonguard to Senchal?
"She certainly did. We'll follow along shortly.
In order to make a good impression, the Dragonguard needs to be ready. I'll instruct Za'ji and Caska on proper etiquette and protocol. Hopefully, some of what I tell them will stick."

Sai at the ceremony in Senchal Palace

Speaking with him at the ceremony before speaking to Khamira:

"Leki's blade, Za'ji smells like a keg pulled out of a tavern fire! Please let this go well …."

During the ceremony:

Queen Khamira: "People of Senchal, let us recognize the efforts of the Dragonguard. They saved Elsweyr from the rage of Dragons."
Queen Khamira: "First, let us bow our heads and remember Abnur Tharn, who gave his life to save Tamriel."
Queen Khamira: "Second, it brings me great joy to mark the return of Sai Sahan and the Dragonguard. May you always watch over us all."
Sai Sahan: "The honor is ours, Queen Khamira."
Queen Khamira: "And finally, join me in honoring my friend and champion, who ended the threat of Kaalgrontiid once and for all. Three cheers for five-claw! Three cheers for the Dragonguard!"
Za'ji: "Three beers? No, Za'ji has had enough, thank you."

(Za'ji throws up over the side of the balcony)

Sai Sahan: "Dragons take me …."

After the ceremony:

"I need to find the queen's court historian. I want to make sure Za'ji's antics don't make it into the official record."
What's next for Sai Sahan?
"The Dragonguard still has much to learn. And there remain Dragons to deal with.
After that? I need to find my Snow Lily. Let Lyris know I'm all right. You won't believe how much I miss that beautiful half-giant!"

Red Eagle's SongEdit

GloomreachEdit

Deep inside Gloomreach, you'll find a Concealed Chamber with a Gray Host coffer. As soon as you retrieve the contents, an imposing voice can be heard behind you:

Sai Sahan: "I step away to deal with a stray werewolf and someone steals my prize? So, what did you find in the coffer?"

If you have not met Sai Sahan before:

Need additional dialogue variations for different quests you have or have not completed with Sai

If you have met Sai before:

"It warms my heart to see you again, my friend. I take it you came at Lyris's behest?
Now tell me, did you happen to find a letter in that coffer?"
Lyris said to look for a letter dealing with Rada al-Saran and a Reach hero. I think this is it.
"Let me have a look. Yes, this is what I was seeking. The third letter between the vampire leaders. But I was afraid of this. They don't tell the complete story."
Lyris mentioned this had a connection to your martial traditions, but she wouldn't explain further.
"That's my Snow Lily. She would never betray my confidence, not even to a trusted partner such as yourself.
I, however, will share what I know. I can't expect you to help if you don't know what's involved."
So, what do Rada al-Saran and a Reach hero have to do with Redguard traditions?
"Before becoming a vampire, Rada al-Saran was a Redguard swordmaster who once battled Leki to a standstill.
According to the letters, he lost his ability to manifest a Shehai, his spirit sword. Then he met the Reach hero, Faolan the Red Eagle."
What does a Reach hero know about Redguard traditions?
"That's what I was hoping to learn, but the letters fail to provide any detail.
I, too, have never been able to manifest my Shehai. I was hoping to gain insight from these letters. It seems we'll have to look elsewhere, though."
Do you have any idea where we can learn more about this connection to Red Eagle?
"Lyris went to Hroldan Ring to talk to a vateshran—a Reach lorekeeper—to find a local version of this story.
I suggest we go to the source. A sacred site dedicated to Faolan—Red Eagle Redoubt. Look for a vateshran and I'll meet you there."
Tell me more about vateshrans.
"It's what the Reachfolk call their lore keepers. They don't have a written language, so they remember history through stories and songs.
With any luck, we'll find a vateshran at Red Eagle Redoubt who knows the story of Rada al-Saran and Faolan."
How did you learn about this old story?
"It was purely by chance. When Lyris and I helped the people at the Reachwind Ritual Site, we discovered a letter on the Gray Host leader. A number of the vampire commanders were discussing the story through correspondence.
I was intrigued."
I don't understand how a Reach hero could teach a Redguard swordmaster anything.
"Anyone can learn anything from anybody, if they are patient and willing to listen.
I was hoping that the letters would reveal more of the story, but they lack the details necessary to understand how Red Eagle helped Rada al-Saran."
Do you think Red Eagle was a Redguard swordmaster, too?
"I'm not an expert on Reach lore. That's why we need to find a vateshran.
However, none of the legends I've heard suggest Faolan was anything other than a Reachman. The stories do say he was armed with a flaming sword. Maybe that's the connection."
Why do you call Lyris your Snow Lily?
"Because Lyris is as unique and as beautiful as the flower that blooms in the northern cold. It is a term of affection that suits her most admirably."
Will Lyris find us at Red Eagle Redoubt?
"I will make a slight detour and meet Lyris on the road or back at Hroldan Ring. Then we will journey together to meet you at Red Eagle Redoubt.
We shall not tarry, my friend."
Red Eagle RedoubtEdit

Speak to Vateshran Ovra at Red Eagle Redoubt and she'll give you some insight to the information you seek. Once you've finished speaking to the lorekeeper, Lyris and Sai will arrive:

"It took me longer to find my Snow Lily than I expected. Still, it appears you found a vateshran.
Tell Lyris what you have learned and see if it matches what she found at Hroldan Ring."

After speaking to Lyris:

"We're close to learning the secret of Red Eagle's connection to Rada al-Saran. I can feel it in my bones.
I will wait with Lyris and then meet you in the cave beneath the redoubt."

Enter the cave and Lyris and Sai will follow:

"This cave … I can feel it. This place was important. Sacred.
Talk to Lyris while I look around."

After speaking to Lyris:

"Do as Snow Lily suggests. Burn the dense foliage and reveal what's hidden on those stone pillars. We will react to whatever you uncover."

As you move through the cave, you'll come across several monoliths covered in vines and roots. Burn away the vegetation and Lyris and Sai will take note of the markings.

First monolith:

Sai Sahan: "Snow Lily, look! Is that … yes, it's a song!"
Lyris Titanborn: "(singing)'Reach out, Red Eagle, your destiny awaits ….'"

Speaking to him here:

"Interesting. The first stanza of an ancient Reachfolk song.
Keep going, my friend. Hopefully, the pillars will tell us more about what Red Eagle shared with Rada al-Saran."

Second monolith:

Lyris Titanborn: "Another verse. Your turn, Sai."
Sai Sahan: "(singing)'Clear your mind, Red Eagle, don't surrender to the fates ….'"

Speaking to him here:

"Will the rest of this song fill in the missing pieces?
Keep going, my friend. I feel we're getting close."

Third monolith:

Lyris Titanborn: "(singing)'Fill your heart with the song that makes it roar ….'"
Sai Sahan: "(singing)'… and let your spirit, your love, and your life, let it soar ….'"

Speaking to him here:

"Roar … soar … what are these verses trying to tell us?
There must be another verse. Let's keep looking."

Final monolith:

Sai Sahan: "(pseudo singing)'… then it will come to you, your love, your life, your sword ….'"
Lyris Titanborn: "Of course, Sai! Don't you see? You never fight for what you want, only for what others need."

Speaking to him after the song:

"This song … is this what Red Eagle shared with Rada al-Saran? What allowed him to reclaim his Shehai?
I must ponder this."

Talking to him after having a chat with Lyris:

"Lyris and I must discuss what you helped us learn here today. We'll meet you outside in a moment."

Leave the cave and Lyris and Sai will eventually join you. If you talk to Sai, he says:

"Both the words on the cave pillars and what Snow Lily said to me … I have much to consider. Much to think about."

After turning in the quest, Lyris turns to Sai Sahan.

Lyris Titanborn: "I think I understand, Sai. You need to put aside your duty, just this once, and focus on what you want."
Sai Sahan: "Duty isn't easily set aside for someone like me, Snow Lily."
Lyris Titanborn: "Focus, Sai. Just this once, fill your heart with what you need."

Sai summons his Spirit Sword

(Both begin to sing)

Lyris Titanborn: "Reach out, Red Eagle, your destiny awaits …."
Sai Sahan: "Clear your mind, Red Eagle, don't surrender to the fates …."
Lyris Titanborn: "Fill your heart with the thing that makes it roar …."
Sai Sahan: "And let your spirit, your love, and your life, let it soar …."
Lyris Titanborn: "Then it will come to you, your love, your life, your sword …."

"Sai! That's amazing!"

(Speaking)

Lyris Titanborn: "Sai! Your sword! It's working!"
Lyris Titanborn: "Sai! That's amazing!"
Sai Sahan: "The words, they led me to the true answer. The one thing I have always loved above all else."
Lyris Titanborn: "And what was that, Sai?"
Sai Sahan: "I thought of you, Snow Lily. I thought of you."

Speak to him again and he'll rejoice:

"I never imagined to find the means to summon my Shehai here in the Reach. But thanks to you and Lyris, I finally have my spirit sword.
And I have my Snow Lily. There's a song in my heart and life is good!"

Second ChancesEdit

After meeting with members of House Ravenwatch she can be found in company of Sai Sahan. You can overhear their conversation:

Sai Sahan: "I thought you might enjoy a welcome surprise for once, Snow Lily."
Lyris Titanborn: "Oh, Sai. You always know how to—oh. Uh, hello, partner."

Speak to him before attending the announcement by the ard. His greeting will depend on your past encounters with him. Dialogue needed for never met Sai Sahan before. Character tested with has completed God of Schemes and The Pride of Elsweyr

Met Sai Sahan previously:
Completed Red Eagle's Song:
"It's been some time since our paths last crossed. I'm happy to see you again—and to know that Lyris was in good company during her time in Skyrim."
"Thank you again for agreeing to help Lyris and I with our little problem. It seems there is always trouble that needs fixing, but it's good to find a moment for celebration now and again."
Am I interrupting?
"What—no! Never! You are always welcome in our company. Good companions are hard to find!
Don't let us keep you from your moment of honor though. There will be plenty of time to share stories after all the accolades."
What brings you to Skyrim?
"I had long planned to visit Skyrim and learn about their long history with the Dragons, to help in our battle against them. When I heard that Lyris was here, fighting a sword-saint no less, I decided now was the time make the journey."
Sword-saint?
"Rada al-Saran was an Ansei of great renown. A legend to rival Leki herself. The sword-saints are a lost legacy to my people. It's a shame that al-Saran did not devote himself to restoring that honorable tradition instead of his monstrous Gray Host."
What will you do now that the fighting is over?
"Lyris has promised to show me some of the Dragon Cult's ruins and barrows. With good fortune they may help us learn more about our foes in Elsweyr. I will return to my duties there soon."

Speak to him inside the Announcement Hall and he'll say:

"Don't let us keep you. We'll manage to keep each other company while you take your well-deserved bows."

After the speeches, you can speak to him again and he'll speak of his time in the empire:

"That was a heartening display. The Reachfolk are often dismissed as savage and beastly, but they have a strong sense of honor. I know that all too well."
What do you mean?
"Much Reach blood stained my blade during Varen's Rebellion. Not all were proud and noble warriors, but many deserved respect. It is the duty of those who fight to remember those who die. Even their foes."
Do you regret fighting the Reachfolk?
"No. It was a just war. Still, I bear no ill will toward the Reachfolk for the misdeeds of the Longhouse Emperors.
Look around. It is plain to see that they possess as much honor and goodness as anyone else. I hope they enjoy a lasting peace."
So what's next for Sai Sahan?
"Lyris wants to relax. See the world while we're not trying to save it.
She also mentioned that she wants me to sharpen her axe and polish her armor. Her most peculiar smile, though, makes me suspect there's more to these chores than she let on."

Deprecated ContentEdit

At one point, the following interaction was meant to play out during "Halls of Torment":

Tharn Doppelganger: "Your life is a lie, Sai Sahan. You failed to become a sword-singer. You failed in your sworn duty to protect your Emperor. To this day your former companions mock you for your incompetence and call you a fool!"
Sai Sahan: "No! You are not real! I have heard your lies and borne your torment, day after day, year after year! You will not break me!"

Cut ContentEdit

Some aspects of the game were cut entirely. Dialogue, quest stages, and journal entries left over from development can all be found in the text files for earlier versions of the game.

Daughter of Giants DraftEdit

The Update 1 text file contains dialogue from an early draft of this quest. Lyris Titanborn was an alcoholic before she met Sai Sahan. You would have interacted with her and a manifestation of a man from her past named Nogrond, who encouraged her destructive habits. You would have also seen Sai Sahan in this scene.

"Nogrond! Noggy, to my friends. And Lyris is my friend.
This pious sand crawler wants her to throw away our friendship as though it meant nothing. So, my Lyris enjoyed a drink now and again. Where's the harm in that?"
"What do I want? I want to toast our health and good fortune! I want her to remember the good times, and carry them with her. Maybe make the hard times easier to bear.
Let her take a drink. Remind her that life's too short to be taken so seriously!"

You would have had the chance to speak to the vision of Sai Sahan.

"I am an echo of the man she knows. I seek only to help her.
This drunken Nord was an undisciplined mess. He did nothing but encourage her to get drunk and act out. He is the very worst part of her personality."
"Perhaps, as you see her now. But she was not always thus. She eventually put aside the bottle and learned to take pride in herself.
She is beautiful, strong, and brave. Nogrond only saw her as a playmate, to share his debauchery."

God of Schemes DraftEdit

In one draft, it appears Meridia was supposed to speak with you and the surviving Companions alongside Cadwell following your return from the Colored Rooms.

I'm finally free of him!"
Sai Sahan: "My Lord Varen, are you injured?"
Varen Aquilarios: "I'm fine, Sai. But where is Tharn? I do not hear his steps or his breath."
Cadwell: "He vanished. Ran off, I think. And he took the amulet you chaps found, with him."
Sai Sahan: "I cannot believe Snow Lily is gone. Why did she do it, My Lord?"
Cadwell: "Here now, my good man! Lyris Titanborn is a hero! She gave her life for a noble cause!"
Varen Aquilarios: "Sir Cadwell is right, Sai. We will all mourn her, but it was her choice. Her sacrifice to make."
Sai Sahan: "I cannot believe she is really gone."
Meridia: "Do not despair, Sai Sahan, son of Yokuda. Lyris Titanborn's sacrifice brought about the salvation of your world."
Sai Sahan: "Who comes here? Which Daedric Prince is this?"
Meridia: "You know me as Meridia. I appear to you in a form you can understand, but I cannot stay long.
This page of history is concluded, but there are many more chapters to be written. I must leave you now, but will be watching."

If Varen was sacrificed:

Lyris Titanborn: "What … what happened? How did we get here? I remember being overwhelmed, but then …."
Cadwell: "Right. Sorry about that. I called in a bit of help to pull you out of there. I do hope I didn't overstep my bounds."
Sai Sahan: "Snow Lily, I …."
Lyris Titanborn: "I know, Sai. It's over. It's all over."
Cadwell: "Well then! Happy endings all around! Smashing! Who's got the brandy?"
Sai Sahan: "Wait, where is Tharn? Did he survive?"
Cadwell: "He vanished. Ran off, I think. And he took the amulet you chaps found, with him."
Meridia: "Your questions are many, but there is little time to answer them all. Your companion knows the truth of things."
Cadwell: "Ah! Radiant Meridia! So good to see you again, my lady. Truly!"
Meridia: "Yes, you know me as Meridia. I appear to you in a form you can understand, but I cannot stay long.
This page of history is concluded, but there are many more chapters to be written. I must leave you now, but will be watching."
