DialogueEdit
Upon entering the dungeon, Tharayya will be speaking with some of her expedition members:
- Tharayya: "What—may I ask—do you call that?"
- Ranja: "Ranja would call it fleeing with one's tail between one's legs."
- Landal Gevont: "Earning the trust of Goblins is easier than earning the trust of their durzogs. I almost got within shouting distance this time. I just need—"
Then, as you approach Tharayya:
- Tharayya: "The competition is here. You've squandered our head start, Landal."
- Ranja: "You there. Come have a word by our fire."
Or, if you did Depths of Malatar before:
- 'Tharayya: "Enough, Landal. Our escort has arrived."
- Tharayya: "Come over by the fire, I'll fill you in on the details."
Speak to him before speaking to Tharayya, and he'll say:
- "Once we've overcome the durzog obstacle, I'm certain I'll be able to reach an accord with the Goblins in short order."
- How do you intend to do that?
- "Talk to them, of course, but I imagine that's not something you've often tried in your field of expertise.
Landal Gevont, Goblin expert, at your service."- And your friend?/Is that how you met your friend?
- "My assistant is Burr. I found him half-dead in the snow while observing the local Goblin population and nursed him back to health. He's not accustomed to our cultures or manners, but his knowledge of the tribes here will be invaluable."
- Goblin expert?/You mentioned being a Goblin expert.
- "Yes, Goblin expert. Is that so strange? There are thousands of High Elves devoted to studying nothing but their own genealogy. Goblins are a diverse, intelligent people found nearly everywhere in Tamriel. There is a lot to know, and I do."
- You don't seem to have made much progress.
- "Oh, not you too! Goblin tribes are notoriously insular and wary of outsiders, not surprising considering their only interactions with people tend to be at the point of swords.
It took months for me to embed myself among the Sharp Stick tribe."- You lived among Goblins?
- "Of course! There's no better way to learn about a culture than to live it. Sometimes I miss the simplicity of hunting and gathering. I even miss the snow-ticks. Roast them when they're plump and you'll never go back to rabbit meatballs."
- And your friend?/Is that how you met your friend?
When you start to fight your way through the Goblins, Landal will protest:
- Landal Gevont: "Wait! Wait! Wait! What happened to reaching a peaceful resolution?"
- Alareth Spring-Fellow: "Sorry, Landal. We tried it your way. I'm not freezing to death out here over Goblin diplomacy."
- Ranja: "This one thinks the Goblins aren't interested in what you have to say. We have that in common."
IcestalkerEdit
Once Icestalker is dead:
- Tharayya: "That seemed to scare them off for now. Quick, get inside!"
- Landal Gevont: "Wait. Aren't these places usually trapped?"
- Soriel: "I hope so. What I wouldn't give for a nice warm steam trap right now."
If you talk him, Landal will be concerned about the ruins:
- "Am I the only one who gets the feeling that maybe the Dwarves sealed the vault for good reason?"
- What do you think is in there?
- "I know Tharayya would hate to hear me say this, but hopefully nothing. I would much prefer an empty room over unleashing some ancient evil that even the Dwarves feared."
Once inside the main chamber of the Crypt of Mhuvnak, after Tharayya activates the skeevaton:
- Burr: <Rude Goblin gibberish.>
- Landal Gevont: "Now, Burr, you wouldn't want someone to say that about your mother, would you?"
- Burr: <Flippant Goblin gibberish.>
- Landal Gevont: "What do you mean you ate your mother?"
- Burr: <Pouting Goblin gibberish.>
- Landal Gevont: "I'm so sorry, Burr. I tried to resolve things peacefully."
- Burr: <Dismissive Goblin gibberish.>
- Landal Gevont: "Oh, it means to resolve a conflict without violence. Yes, that's a good thing!"
- Burr: <Complaining Goblin gibberish.>
- Landal Gevont: "Well, they disappeared, Burr. Nobody knows what happened to them. That's why we're looking for answers."
- Burr: <Muttered Goblin gibberish.>
- Landal Gevont: "Well … I'm sure your tribe looked just as hard for you. I just found you first."
- Burr: <Gnawing, frustrated Goblin noises.>
- Landal Gevont: "Burr! Skeevatons are not for eating!"
- Burr: <Exasperated goblin gibberish.>
- Landal Gevont: "You shouldn't eat those either. Do you have any idea where they've been? Oh, you do …."
- Burr: <Suspicious Goblin gibberish.>
- Landal Gevont: "Hm? I just thought you looked hungry. You don't want to eat?"
- Burr: <Suspicious Goblin gibberish.>
- Landal Gevont: "For the last time, Burr. I'm not trying to fatten you up."
Warlord TzogvinEdit
After you enter the Vault of Mhuvnak, Landal and Alareth will follow you around while you find parts to repair the Dwarven Delver. When you approach Warlord Tzogvin, Landal will attempt to negotiate with him for the needed Soul Stone:
- Landal Gevont: "Wait! It's their chieftain! I might be able to arrange a truce, maybe even a trade for the stone!"
- Landal Gevont: <Flattering goblin gibberish.>
- Warlord Tzogvin: <Furious Goblin gibberish.>
- Landal Gevont: "Oh my, that was … detailed.
<Pleading Goblin gibberish.>" - Warlord Tzogvin: <Contemptuous Goblin gibberish.>
- Landal Gevont: "No, no, no, no! Help!"
- Warlord Tzogvin: <Mocking Goblin laughter.>
If you talk to Landal before facing the goblin warchief, he'll say:
- "You shouldn't have killed his people! Now he's going to kill and eat us—not necessarily in that order!"
An alternate conversation [verification needed — does it occur if you attack early?]:
- Landal Gevont: "Wait! It's their chieftain! I might be able to arrange a truce, maybe even a trade for the stone!"
- Landal Gevont: <Flattering goblin gibberish.>
- Warlord Tzogvin: <Furious Goblin gibberish.>
- Warlord Tzogvin: <Commanding Goblin gibberish.>
- Warlord Tzogvin: <Angry Goblin gibberish.>
- Landal Gevont: "Or you can just kill him. Nothing deranged about that."
After you have killed the chieftain:
- Landal Gevont: Are we just going to kill everything we come across? I came here to study the Goblins, not slaughter them!"
- Alareth Spring-Fellow: "If you want to run on ahead and make a peace offering, be our guest."
- Landal Gevont: "Let's just take the Soul Gem and go."
- Alareth Spring-Fellow: "Hold your horses. Tharayya also said we need to find an equilibrium sphere. Whatever that is."
- Alareth Spring-Fellow: "Hey the rat's moving again. I guess we keep following?"
- Alareth Spring-Fellow: "Damn, more Goblins. You go ahead, we'll catch up when it's clear."
You can talk to him before heading off to find the equilibrium sphere.
- "I don't know why I bothered signing up for this glorified treasure hunt."
- Why did you join this expedition?
- "I was enticed by the possibility of observing a Riekling tribe from the inside, and not just any Riekling tribe, but one that has settled on a Dwarven site. I could have observed—firsthand—Goblins making discoveries of an advanced civilization."
- You think the Goblins would be interested in Dwarven civilization?
- "Not immediately, but they are practiced scavengers and this vault has no shortage of machinery. They might have re-purposed some of the Dwarves' inventions, maybe even make inventions of their own.
We'll never know now."
After collecting the Equilibrium Sphere needed for the Dwarven Delver:
- "You really think Tharayya is going to get that enormous pile of junk working with a few of these tiny parts?
If we just massacred all these Goblins for nothing … I don't even know what I'll do."
When the items are found, you will need to return to Tharayya to see how she is going.
- Landal Gevont: "Tharayya? We have your parts. I hope they are worth decimating the local Goblin population."
- Tharayya: "The articulators are completely seized up. I can't get it moving again, but I might not have to."
- Landal Gevont: "Meaning?"
- Tharayya: "If I can channel enough energy through the tonal emitter on it's arm, it should reduce the vault door to twisted slag, but I'll need fresh shock conveyors to manage it."
- Ranja: "Ranja has let your toy rat through this door. No need to thank her."
- Tharayya: "Was it listening to us? I didn't know it could do that. In any case it must have detected something. Check it out."
If you talk with him afterwards, he will have the opinion that Tharayya doesn't know what she is doing:
- "I knew it! I knew it was going to be for nothing. Tharayya's grasping at straws now. This is a wild goose chase."
Rizzuk BonechillEdit
After you kill Rizzuk in the Coldsnap Scraphoard, you can find the needed shock conveyors:
- Landal Gevont: "How are we supposed to find anything in all this mess?"
- Alareth Spring-Fellow: "Trust the rat, Goblin-hugger … there! Let's get back these back to Tharayya."
You can talk to Landal before leaving:
- "See how the Goblins were hoarding this scrap? They were studying it. Given time, I'm sure they would have made some ingenious tools.
Of course, it's far more important to dig up a long dead civilization than observe the birth of a new one." - You don't think studying the Dwarves is important?
- "Not at the cost of something new!
I'm all for learning about the past, but this obsession to be the first to discover the secrets of a long dead civilization twists people into desperate fools and monsters. I won't be party to it again."
You can the return to Tharayya after finding the final part needed for the Delver:
- Landal Gevont: "We have your conveyors. It only took murdering every Goblin in this place."
- Tharayya: "Enough, Landal. You had your chance."
The WrathstoneEdit
After beating the Stonekeeper and retrieving the Wrathstone half.
- Tharayya: "Finally, the Wrathstone. Not what I expected."
- Landal Gevont: "Hardly looks Dwarven to me."
- Tharayya: "That's because it isn't I've never seen anything quite like it."
- Tharayya: "Soriel! Let's get this in the saddle bags. Carefully."
- Landal Gevont: "You can count us out of whatever you're planning next. I've had enough of this madness."
Or if you've done Depths of Malatar's quest before:
- Tharayya: "Finally, the other half of the Wrathstone. Just as I expected."
- Landal Gevont: "Hardly looks Dwarven to me."
- Tharayya: "That's because it isn't, but it is a match to this tablet."
- Tharayya: "Soriel! Let's get this in the saddle bags. Carefully."
- Landal Gevont: "Well, you have both hunks of rock. Have you laid the secrets of the universe bare?"
- Tharayya: "Not yet, Landal, but this will point the way."
- Landal Gevont: "You can count us out of whatever you're planning next. I've had enough of this madness."
If you talk to him afterwards he will say:
- "I don't know what's gotten into Burr. Something about this place spooked him. He's the only one of us with any sense."
NotesEdit
- He is mentioned by Asda during A Trail Gone Cold as being the foremost authority on Goblin culture.
