Detailed WalkthroughEdit

The jungle has taken over the bay

South of Brokerock Mine you can find Ilyes Maul's camp, near the entrance to Ghost Haven Bay. Ilyes Maul is not a prisoner of Amenos; he stowed away on a galley that stopped on Amenos Station and wandered off at the first opportunity to pursue a personal mission. Maul has a job for which a partner would be helpful: retrieving the fortune of his ancestor Vanisande Maul. Vanisande vanished many years ago with her ship, crew, and loot, and Ilyes intends to obtain the latter of the three. To begin, he wants to find evidence that his ancestor actually was at Ghost Haven Bay before her disappearance.

Agreeing to assist and going into the bay will take you to an area completely consumed by the jungle's vegetation. You will start at the western edge of the area, with a choice to either go to a northern or southern site to search. Both sites will need to be searched eventually to continue. Fighting, sneaking, or running through the threats will lead to you discovering Vanisande Maul's Cutlass and the Waterlogged Journal of Vanisande Maul. Ilyes will be happy to have proof, but feel slightly bad about how he has to go about recovering his "inheritance". With confirmation that she was here, Ilyes proposes investigating a large cavern in the bay, as it was big enough to harbor ships for the pirates.

Ilyes's instinct will prove to be correct. After investigating the very first portion of the cavern he suggests, you will run into the ghost of Vanisande Maul herself. The ghost will briefly demand Ilyes return her belongings before noticing that he has an unfamiliar necklace that bears her crest. Ilyes takes this brief opportunity to explain he is her descendant, and Vanisande quickly comes to her senses. Vanisande will explain that she and every ship that sailed under Commodore Malfairre's command has been cursed to linger as undead spirits due to "deep druid" magic. During a battle in which the Commodore was heavily outnumbered, he made this grave pact, allowing the pirates to rise from death time and time again. With no clear way to truly defeat them, they were all buried in this cavern to contain them. In the years since, their bodies have all decayed, leaving them as spirits but still trapped by their pact in Sea Haven Bay (as Ghost Haven Bay was known in their lifetimes). She agrees to part with her treasure if you help free her, and she suggests starting by finding the logs of the captains who took part in the ritual. The logs you need are in adjoining caverns, and Vanisande will show you ghostly projections of these dealings as you recover Debonaire's Captain Log, the Commodore's Diary, and the Dour Lady's Captain Log. The scenes and books will reference deep druid idols and an old tome, causing Ilyes to propose you find and destroy them all to break the curse.

A ghost ship departs for unknown waters

There are three deep druid idols to break. One is a crystal skull, one is a stone orb, and one is a crystal orb. All of them are guarded by ghosts. After destroying the idols first, you will then move onto your final task: the book. The commodore will personally protect the book as you enter the large chamber to the east, but he is less of a threat than the ghosts guarding the idols were. The book itself can be found by climbing a narrow stone stairway to where Ilyes is waiting. Once the book is destroyed, A portion of the cavern will collapse, opening it back up to the ocean and causing numerous ghosts to fly away free. Vanisande will confirm the curse is broken and tell you that she has revealed the treasure's location to Ilyes. She promises that if he tries to hold out your share, she will personally haunt him until you are paid. With that said, she also offers some life advice for to Ilyes before passing on.

Ilyes will suggest taking a rowboat out since the cavern is now open. Once you return to land, you will see a ghost ship set out to sea, and Ilyes hopes they will find peace wherever their voyage takes them. Although the loot was not as much as he was hoping, Ilyes is overall pleased with how things turned out and happily gives you your share and a standing offer to be his first mate once he gets his own ship.
