Quest-Related EventsEdit

When you first encounter Bosun Narz, he will be standing in front on the ship with a lantern. His crew are freezing and hungry and people are missing. If you haven't started the quest yet, he'll ask:

"You don't seem bothered by the cold, stranger. Perhaps you can help us.
We've been marooned out here in this gods-forsaken place for three days. Our food's run dry and I fear we won't last the night."
How did you get stranded here?
"We were bound for Solitude when this ice storm came out of nowhere. The Silver Cormorant was ice locked before we knew what was happening.
Trip was supposed to be easy. We weren't prepared for a delay. We're completely out of food.
How can I help?
"We're desert folk out of our element. Even worse, I've got missing crew, and injured people from running up against the ice.
We need meat. Anything would do. If we had someone who could brave the cold and hunt for us, we just might survive this."
I'll find some meat for your crew.
"We've already chopped up all the non-essential wood on the ship … chairs, benches, small crates."

If you start the quest through Deckhand Bazler, Bosun Narz will comment as you approach him:

Bosun Narz: "We're hungry but peaceful, my friend. Be welcome."

Speak to him and he'll say:

"We're so cold … none of us are well enough to hunt. If you could get us some meat, it might help us last a few more days.
Hopefully this storm breaks soon."

Regardless how you start the quest, you can then hunt some nearby animals and butcher them for meat and bring it back to the bosun and see what else you can do to help.

"Blade's edge, this is incredible! This meat will see us through the next few days. Longer, if we're careful. Thank you, friend.
Now that we're not in danger of starving, we need to find our missing crew members."
Who's missing?
"Four of our crew were taken from the ship in the night by some kind of … beast. All fur and fangs. It hit us after dark, so none of us got a good look.
The captain and first mate went to look for them earlier this morning and never returned."
What do you think happened to them?
"I fear the beast got to them. Or worse, they're lost in this damned storm and slowly freezing to death.
You've helped us once already … do you think you could search for them? I still have injured people to take care of aboard the ship."
I'll see if I can find your captain and crew.

You can then ask some questions.

"Last we saw the captain and Drigsen, they were following tracks due east."
Do you have any idea what took your crew members?
"Not really. Most everyone on the ship has a different opinion. Only thing we can agree on is that it was big. Real big.
But it was dark, none of us could get a good look. I know I heard snarling, but that's about it."
Could it have been a bear?
"No, it was larger than that. Smarter, too. No bear could have gotten up onto the deck and stolen our people from their cots like that."
What's your business in Solitude?
"Just trading. We came from Rihad, in Hammerfell.
It's too bad we weren't bringing food. I would have gladly paid for the lost merchandise if it kept my people alive for a little while longer."

If you return to the ship after finding First Mate Drigsen, he will report that the crew is getting better.

"The crew is starting to get a little color back. It's good to see Drigsen on her feet. I hope you're able to find the captain.
We've trusted you this far and you haven't failed us."

When you return from rescuing the captain and stopping the unnatural blizzard, the crew will be busy freeing the ship.

"We've got the crew working on cutting the Cormorant free from the ice.
I don't think I've ever seen them this eager to work. Now that they have their strength back, they're practically tireless!"

After you have spoken to the captain and receive your reward, Bosun Narz will thank you.

"We're all humbled by your help, stranger. It's good to know there's still good people in this accursed world."
