Alavlin Beetles are passive creatures farmed by Brodran. Their carapaces produce a shade of sea gray sought by painters. Recently, somebody has been sabotaging Brodran's stock by spreading fumes around the beetles that lowers how often they mate.
During The Perils of Art Brodran will tell you how he makes a gray pigment. Outside the quest, however, he makes a comment about them being delicious. It's possible they are both a source of food as well as pigments.
They are similar in appearance to sandroaches.
