Oblivion talk:Ulrich Leland

Essential?Edit

Is he essential before Corruption and Conscience? I may have killed him before...but I could have the quest gathering dust in my log, so...Robed Dawnbringer 05:55, 23 December 2007 (EST)

He is definitely essential until Corruption and Conscience is begun. See NPC summary. I don't know what happens if you kill him during the quest. There is a very similar doubt on this page. --Mankar CamoranTCE 08:57, 23 December 2007 (EST)

WeirdEdit

Ulrich seems to have some weird AI during the Allies for Bruma quest. Before I start the great gate quest, his AI is normal, but his dialogue changes to the normal one for the troops, and his lips wont move, and there's no voice.. After I start the quest, he seemingly teleports to outside Bruma, but doesn't follow the other soldiers to the battlefield. -Dan 9410 15:28, 24 March 2008 (EDT)

For the 'Allies for Bruma' quest, I have completed the Cheydinhal portion, so now I am wondering: Do all the allies walk over to Bruma? As soon as I finished, I went to looks for Azura's Shrine. Leaving and heading Northwards, I pass the nearby camp. At around this time, a message states 'Ulrich Leland is unconscious'. This happens a few more times at intervals, and then stops. Does he walk to Bruma? Because then he might have encountered a creature, and eventually killed it, which would explain the messages. At any rate, something is attacking him, and he does eventually escape or kill it as the messages have not appeared since.24.87.104.28 01:03, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

I wrote about this in the allies for bruma talk page but for me, I did all the cities and quest is done but he is sitting in his house acting purturbed at me and wanting to put me in chains. I assume he'll just sit out the entire great gate fight even tho he was promised by the count to be there. DoomSquirter (talk) 04:02, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

About that one note...Edit

I just tried killing him in prison for the other reward (ie, to get both, as mentioned in the notes section), but I didn't have the option for the reward as well (which I assume is because the quest marks itself as completed). However, I'm using the ps3 version so I'm not sure if it's different on PC --76.28.99.249 20:14, 11 July 2008 (EDT)

I just tried it myself. You get the update but Garrus simply tells you how disappointed he is and doesn't give you anything, and Llevana refuses to even talk to you. Neither option gives a reward so I'll take the note off. –RpehTCE 02:03, 12 July 2008 (EDT)

Arrest dialogue?Edit

On the page for Bittneld the Curse-Bringer, it's mentioned that the arrest script is specifically for Imperials and thus doesn't work on Bittneld because he's a Nord. Does that apply to Ulrich as well, being a Breton at all? He's dead now, so I can't try it on my PS3 game, but if anyone could confirm... GenocideHeart 16:48, 7 March 2009 (EST)

Correct. Through many a rampage in the streets of Cheydinhal that I've seen, Ulrich does not make arrests. He can even be affected by Frenzy, something that you can with civilian residents but will have trouble doing to common Imperial guards. —Dark Spark 05:56, 8 March 2009 (EDT)

Race and Name InconsistencyEdit

Okay, this is probably not very important, but why does he have a German-sounding name? All the other Bretons have French names, whereas Nords tend to have German or Scandanavian names. I guess it's the same minor thing that caused the Lucien Lachance to be an Imperial. Just a minor thing. — Unsigned comment by 63.160.236.90 (talk) on 25 August 2009

While Ulrich definitely sounds German, Leland sounds French. As you pointed out yourself, it is probably just a mistake from the Bethie name-generator. --SerCenKing Talk 13:07, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Is there an article describing how the Bethesda Name Generator works? Or would that just get us into relatively dull coding? I wonder about this because 1) I'm a nerd and 2) I just figured that all characters were named by the programmers.

I believe that by Bethesda Name Generator he was referring to a person. Ariseth 19:27, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

99 respons.Edit

it seems odd he only has 99 responsibility. i thought all guards, including the non-imperials, had a responsibility of 100.

Even odder is that it is still so high, judging by his role in Corruption and Concience. --70.184.239.162 05:46, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Ways to Kill?Edit

After sending Ulrich to jail in Corruption and Conscience, I decided to try some fun by giving him cursed headgear. I made a bound helmet and enchanted it with fire damage 5pts and named it "_A Burning Helm of Hell" and reverse-pickpocketed it onto Ulrich through the jail bars. He never wears it, even if I initiate combat with him or remove all other items, kill him, and revive him via console "resurrect 1". I assume that he doesn't sleep once he's been put in jail, and probably won't eat either. Is waking the only time a cursed item is equipped?

Slightly unrelated, but I noticed that once Ulrich is in jail, no matter how he dies, you get the quest update telling you that you are responsible for his death. It happens regardless of whether or not I initiate combat between him and the guard, or if I kill him (both via the console). I can even attribute the kill to the Adoring Fan and it still says I killed him. Talk about a lazy catch-all scripted death. I bet if I threw him outside (via coc) and gave him sun damage, the quest would say that I did it. I guess I have control over the sun now? lulz 72.94.190.169 22:25, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Quest conflicts affecting his schedule?Edit

I have Corruption and Conscience at stage 30, where I am supposed to talk to Aldos. I've left it there for quite a while because I don't want Aldos to die. Meanwhile, I just finished the Cheydinhal part of Allies for Bruma. The generic Cheydinhal guard was there, but Leland was missing. So I went to Cheydinhal, and found him snoring away in his bed. Doesn't look like he's heading for Bruma anytime, well, ever! Now I know that he loses his essential status at quest stage 10 of Corruption and Conscience, which is as soon as you get it. And people have had him at the Bruma fight, and die because he's no longer marked essential. This causes issues with the Corruption quest because they get infamy for "killing" him, Garrus never gets promoted, the fines in Cheydinal stay inflated, etc. I'm wondering if there's some point in the Corruption quest where he will no longer leave Cheydinhal for the Allies quest? Because that seems to be what has happened to me. People have also claimed he shows up in Bruma, but then doesn't fight or enter the gate. It seems like there are a lot of weird bugs where these two quests collide in Leland's life. Just a note for whoever works on his schedule for the ONPCRP. EmmBee 04:31, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

UPDATE: I just finished the Defense of Bruma. While Leland was nowhere to be found in town with the other recruited soldiers, it appears he is forcibly moved to the line of soldiers outside town as you depart for the gate. However, he immediately started walking along the road, presumably back to Cheydinhal. When I tried to speak to him, he stopped and turned, but he had no dialogue options, and said not a word. After canceling out of the dialogue close up, he resumed walking off. EmmBee 20:49, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Ulrich Leland is unconsciousEdit

I started getting the notification "Ulrich Leland is unconscious" seemingly out of nowhere on the PS3 GOTY edition. I was at the stables in Bruma during the Pale Pass quest. I figure this is weird enough that it's worth mentioning in the Bugs section. Dbbolton (talk) 07:52, 13 December 2014 (GMT)

Did you complete Allies for Bruma and got Ulrich moved there? Or was even the Defense of Bruma Quest active? That would explain why was able to get unconscious at all. -- SarthesArai Talk 12:02, 13 December 2014 (GMT)
