Oblivion talk:The Sword of the Crusader

There's actually no need to equip the sword: just head to the chapel in Cheydinhal, fight the aurorans with any other weapon you have, then click the altar and you'll have the non-cursed version of the sword appearing in your inventory.

Possible mod conflictsEdit

There's a chance if you have certain mods installed (maybe Obscuro's Oblivion Overhaul?) that you will be unable to consecrate it at the altar in Cheydinhal. I've had this happen to me twice now, but I don't know which mod is causing the issue. To fix it, you'll want to create a new save point, open the console and type "sqt" (without the double-quotes). You should see "GetStage >> 70.00", if so, go ahead and enter "player.SetStage ND08 80" which will consecrate the Sword of the Crusader. I'd suggest creating a 2nd permanent save point after using this command (although it has always worked for me, you have been warned). Snabbik 19:47, 11 June 2007 (EDT)

The conflicting mod is actually "Reclaiming sancre tor". That mod replaces the altar with a custom one until a certain stage in it's quest line. After that it reverts to the original KOTN altar. -Scarehawke

GlitchEdit

Ok, so I went to Underpall Cave, killed Sir Berich and took the sword. But when I go to Cheydinhal Chapel, I can't find Ohtesse or Errandil's corpses, and Kinther doesn't replace Ohtesse after I beat the quest line. Has this happened to anyone else? Aldage 18:48, 5 October 2007 (EDT)

It is very possible for Ohtesse and Errandil's corpses to be missing: if they are not killed during the attack, then they are disabled, which means that they will just disappear. Kinther should appear after Umaril the Unfeathered is complete, regardless of Ohtesse's fate. --NepheleTalk 13:18, 14 October 2007 (EDT)

The same thing has happened to me. After the attack (still during the Umaril the Unfeathered quest) I went around the chapel, and all of the priests were present and very much alive. Two of them were even sleeping. I spoke to all of them and they thanked me for saving the chapel, then I left. I have just returned to the chapel, and only Hil the Tall and Gruiand Garrana are here. No matter how long I wait, none of the other priests, whether they be the 'originals' or their replacements, will appear. I just find it odd that two of the original priests are alive and well, and the other two are nowhere to be seen. If this has happened to anyone else or someone knows a workaround (i.e. how to make the missing priests re-appear) please comment!

Blood WritingEdit

Just wondering what the blood says around the altar, if it means anything that is. --Dark Adro 01:43, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

It's the same as the writing that appears around the altar in Anvil, which the Prophet tells you translate to "by the eternal power of Umaril, the mortal gods shall be cast down". The writing is also mentioned at Dwemer Alphabet. --NepheleTalk 02:19, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

Going in to the cave before the questEdit

What happens if you go into the cave before you start the quest?99.237.148.26 15:28, 27 April 2008 (EDT)

The dungeon is pretty much as it was before the mod. That is, it's exactly as described on this site. The quest adds Lord Vlindrel's ghost and Sir Roderic's body, removes the Necromancer (forever), and apparently makes Lord Vlindrel's tomb a chest only once it is activated. 76.27.253.80 15:37, 13 December 2008 (EST)

Lathon disappeared on meEdit

we got to the cave and I went inside and he didn't follow, so I went back outside and he was getting off his horse. He took a step toward me, I reentered the cave, and he still didn't follow, and when I went outside he was gone.

Yes I've had a similar issue. I thought nothing of it and proceeded with the quest and at the end of the KotN questline he had been replaced by a Dunmer "Knight of the Nine". I think it's either a bug, or he saw a woodland creature and decided to go off and fight it, then got killed. I haven't looked for a body just yet! AzureSN 19:27, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
The same thing happened to me, the problem was that he got stuck inside the horse. Just kill the horse and he will be standing there. 13:52, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
Ditto. I told him to wait in the room with Roderic's corpse while I went into the next area to kill Berich, then once I'd gathered the sword and come back, he was nowhere to be seen. I searched the whole cave, went in and out numerous times, fast traveled back to the Priory - nothing. Weird. Nigelvibations 01:00, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Fayth NoorEdit

In Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, I'm pretty sure the boss necromancer Fayth Noor is in the Underpall Reflecting Chamber, possibly the same place where you fight the wraith for this quest. This means characters who haven't been in Underpall and defeated Noor before will be facing TWO major bosses. Maybe the article should warn readers about this since so many people have OOO. 68.13.72.138 18:34, 16 July 2008 (EDT)OddRobb749

This is true, and OOO players are warned about it (those that bother to read the manual, at least ;) ). We don't tend to mention mods in the location and quest pages here, though. --Gaebrial 03:25, 17 July 2008 (EDT)

Lathon won't enter cave; he stays on his horseEdit

Since he's always on his horse when following me, he won't go inside the cave. Is there a way to make him get off?—Moonraker0 16:43, 29 May 2009 (EDT)

is it possible to become friendly with him, hit him untill aggressive, then yield?24.111.209.63 18:45, 20 June 2009 (EDT)
Are you asking, or are you offering a possible solution? --Timenn < talk > 11:39, 22 June 2009 (EDT)
I had the same issue. He will eventually get off his horse, it sometimes just takes a while. I had to enter and exit the cave a few times before he finally dismounted his horse asnd followed me in. Phaid 16:52, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Lathon's Odd BehaviorEdit

Lathon seems to be a pretty strange fighter. He fought the first skeleton pretty normally, but then his sword disappeared and he started attacking everything hand-to-hand. I thought maybe he had been disarmed or his sword had 0 health, but after he was finally killed by one of the skeleton heroes his glass sword was still in his inventory with a health of 92. I reloaded from the autosave at the cave entrance but he did the same thing the second time. This makes it very difficult to keep him alive. -- Phaid 17:01, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Removing Lord Vlindrel's CurseEdit

A while after I completeled Knights of the Nine I was in a dungeon in Shivering Isle and the sword was disarmed off of me. I couldnt find it. Anyways I did the easy thing and added the sword (with the console), except by mistake I added the cursed one and received the curse again. I tried spawning yet another and taking it to the altar but it didnt work. Is there any way to undo this? — Unsigned comment by 76.88.48.217 (talk) on 28 July 2009

I think the console code player.removespell xx000E2D should work. See this about replacing the xx with the correct numbers. –rpehTCE 19:44, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Respawning corpseEdit

Does Sir Roderic's corpse respawn after 3 days like everything else or is it a Permenant corpse?— Unsigned comment by VergilSparda (talkcontribs) at 19;30 on 30 October 2009

A list of permanent corpses are linked in the Oblivion:Containers page at the bottom of the section that says "Using NPCs..."--Amsuko 04:35, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Lathon is falling through the floorEdit

When I enter the reflection chamber, Lathon disappears. I just have time to see the flame of his torch vanish into the ground. Then I hear a splash, and he's gone. I've saved just before this, so I've been trying to figure out a way to fix it. I've tried waiting, but he doesn't show back up. Help, please.

>So, I fast traveled back to the priory and Lathon was there. So it looks like he won't disappear forever. Hopefully when I go back now, he won't fall through the floor. I just want to get him to Roderic's body, for the added dialogue, and make him wait with it while I kill the wraith.

This has happened to me as well. I'm not sure how to go about it.. I want the dialogue, but I've exhausted just about everything I can do to stop him from falling through. Hmmm... Paramecium302 18:04, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
Aha! I killed a skeleton Champion that spawned nearby, and dragged the corpse to the spawn point that Lathon enters the room in. This caused him to have some footing, and NOT go through the floor. I think, that or I'm just lucky. Paramecium302 18:09, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
I had the same thing happen (on PS3 GOTY edition). My solution was to attack Sir Lathon in the room just before the reflection chamber to make him hostile, then open the door into the reflection chamber (which he will chase you into, but NOT fall through the floor!), then yield to him on the other side, at which point Lathon's script takes over and he leads you to Sir Roderic's corpse. Just be aware, you will generate a bounty of 40 gold when doing this. 18:31, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Two riders on one horseEdit

If you get on lathons horse before leaving the priory, then fast travel someplace. Both you and lathon will be on the horse

Take out Vlindrel - Navy Seal style!Edit

Equip yourself with the Talisman of Abetment, which allows you to breath underwater. Also take along an effective weapon, such as Jyggalag's sword. Once Vlindrel spots you just jump in the water and stay well submerged; he can't get to you! At your leisure rise up and smack him a few times, before dropping back if necessary to recover from his attacks. Once he's dead you can recover the Crusader's sword from the bottom of the pool.Mogul 15:49, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Moved note.Edit

  • One way to avoid the curse is to gain some Infamy; if your infamy is at least 2 when you equip the sword, then the curse will not take effect. (Of course, you will then have to redo the Pilgrimage in order to use any of the Crusader's Relics).

I just don't see any point in mentioning this on the page. Do you guys ? JackTurbo95 07:41, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

No point mentioning it on the quest page, but it is an interesting observation. I've added it here. Legoless 12:17, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

Zero Weight SwordEdit

The sword appears to be zero weight as the cursed version. This makes it an extremely OP weapon because of the max swing rate with long sword damage and enchantment. Is it supposed to be zero weight? I'm unmodded on PS3 so it'd be weird for this to be a glitch. Seems like a very valuable weapon, assuming you raise your infamy to avoid the curse and abandon the Knights of the Nine quest line. 107.192.31.26 05:04, 2 April 2014 (GMT)

What do you mean when you say zero weight? Weapon speed in Oblivion is set, and if you just mean for carrying around, then (though it doesn't mention it) I am sure the sword is a quest item (weightless and undroppable), so in the sense of "creating" inventory space it is valuable.
