Unable to take StoneEdit

I assume you're talking about a Sigil Stone. There is a bug involving being unable to grab the stones, which I have experienced many times first hand. You can try reloading if you have an earlier save, but chances are the gate you are in is simply broken and you will have to backtrack out of it.
