Oblivion talk:Milk Thistle Seeds

Comparison imagesEdit

I suspect the reason that people feel that Bergamot looks similar to Milk Thistle is that they are blind or partially blind to the color red. Telling them that Bergamot is more red will not help much. Everyone else can see that it is. I could only come up with the banal and yet confusing "Not to be confused with Bergamot" as a replacement caption, or I would have changed it. Perhaps the Bergamot pic should be removed altogether? As the person who originally placed the image I feel I need to defend my position on it. When I was making the pictures of the various plants found throughout Cyrodiil I simply noticed that some plants may look similar to various readers. The extra image doesn't disrupt the flow of text or anything, so I believe it's good where it is now. It's interesting you mentioned colour-blindness as quite a significant amount of people have it. Not to mention that different color effects (notably the Oblivion Weather around Gates) are present in Oblivion which may give a false color to the flower. There is also the common perception that people are blind for what they do not know. I think most viewers tend to look for the flower first, and not pay much attention to the leaves. Since the flowers look similar in shape viewers may mix them up (especially if the leaves are covered by grass). --Timenn-<talk> 13:08, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
Well, I am fine with it being there, which is partly why I asked. It just does not seem to as helpful as it could be to the people it is trying to help, is all. You make a good point about the leaves, I think we should emphasize that, and expand the descriptions a little, focusing mostly on light-dark contrasts and shapes. How about, "Milk Thistle has a magenta flower with a bright center, and serrated, moss-colored leaves" and "Bergamot, by contrast, has a redder flower, with petals that are light on the outside, and spade-shaped leaves". And is it permissible to increase the size of the Milk Thistle pic a bit? That would help emphasize the fact that the top pic is the one that the article is about. It's not easy to increase the size of the images, as they are provided with the Ingredient Summary box. I don't think it's necessary though, the plant is quite visible, even the details you describe.
The descriptions you give are fine with me, a bit too long perhaps but it's clear enough. --Timenn-<talk> 22:24, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
