IllusionEdit

Which mages guild has Illusion spells? Even if it's not their guilds specialty, someone should have paralyze and light effects

Don't know about spells but Bravil specializes in Illusion.

Isn't Paralyse dispelled the moment the paralysed person is attacked? --Vook 04:21, 19 May 2006 (EDT)

I'm pretty sure Parayze isn't affected by anything. That's why i think it has such a small duration and high casting cost. It's one of the most powerful spells, I've got it to work on every single creature, and it has never been absorbed before. Except on Vampires, since they resist it. And I figured out that Bravil has all the Illusion spells, at least they specialise in it.--ChristensenCT 13:47, 20 May 2006 (EDT)

CommandsEdit

Are all creatures/humans affected by the command spells, or are some immune? I would obviously expect Mehrunes Dagon to be immune, for starters.--Merco 06:54, 21 August 2007 (EDT)

Custom spells not workingEdit

All of my custom illusion spells do not work like they should. I made custom demoralize/command(creature and humanoid)/rally combined with frenzy spells, all on touch up to lv. 25 for 90sec. For frenzy and rally i added 10f. area effect. Problem is that the spell does nothing. It doesn't work on the University guards, Raminus Polus,... (i wanted to try it out immidiately, so used university npc's). It didn't do a damn thing. And yes, the target was hit with the touch spell. I had to reload to get rid of the useless spells. I want to know why in Oblivion they don't work. (I had looked foward a loooooooooooooooong time to be able to command guards and stuff...)--LordDagon 12:05, 15 February 2008 (EST)

By searching the WIKI, i've found a (possible) reason myself; spell effectiveness. Since i wore armor maybe the lv 25 was decreased, meaning guards would indeed not be affected at player lv. 50. I still have to check in-game tough. Any further ideas/comments are welcome.--LordDagon 07:59, 16 February 2008 (EST)
Yep LordDagon is right, even if you're a master of the armours it still decreases your spell effectiveness by 5% if you wear any armour piece. Think of Command or moral changing spells as a percentage. Command Humanoid up to lvl 25 would be 100% command meaning it could command anything. However with that 5% decrease in your spell effectiveness it results in a 5% power/area/duration decrease to all of your spells meaning that the spell is only 95% effective. A 95% effective command spell is rendered useless against most enemies if you're on a high level since it cannot command any enemies above level 24 while 100% can command anything.--Willyhead 07:50, 17 February 2008 (EST)

GotY Glitch?Edit

Is there an illusion skill level glitch for the GOTY edition? I bought the immobilze and the ghost walk spell that both require a 75pt. illusion skill level. My skill level is 77 and I have enough magicka but it won' t let me use either spell. Can anyone help me? — Unsigned comment by Brentonbabe (talkcontribs) on 9 February 2009

What do you mean "won't let you"? Can you select the spell at all? Does it make a noise when you try to cast it? –RpehTCE 14:54, 9 February 2009 (EST)
Are you sure your level isn't boosted by any fortify enchantments? You only get the effects of expert skill levels when it's an ability. If it's simply fortified past the 75 mark, you'll still have to boost it up to a point where you reach 75 without fortification. Say you have a piece of armor that boosts your illusion skill by 10 points and that puts you up to 77 in your journal. That doesn't mean you're expert in illusion, it simply means that your actual skill is 67 but the armor boosts it up. You'll still have to bump it up 8 more times to reach expert. -- Interrupt feed 02:04, 9 May 2009 (EDT)

MannimarcoEdit

I succesfuly used paralyze on him several times during the battle, so contrary to what is said in this article, he is NOT immune to paralysis.

Ridiculously UnbalancedEdit

Illusion is, by far, the most unbalanced ability set Ive seen in any game yet. It completely negates the need to use anything but illusion for a significant chunk of the game, and (along with Alteration) makes playing a stealth based character laughable. Why on earth would I spend all that time tryng to earn up unreliable skills that dont work unless I use that god-awful bluefield Nighteye spell. (Dear god do I hate Oblivion's Night Eye.) I like having my sicky greenish glow from light spells. Once you get high in the skills, you can just do Area paralyze on everything, meaning only Undead will cause you any trouble whatsoever.

Its far too tempting to use the power than to not. It almost feels like you're crippling yourself massively if you do. 74.128.56.194 05:00, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Though you have a valid point that illusion is overpowered, I can't really agree with anything else, you don't need night eye for sneaking, though it is easier if you use it, and light spells make sneaking much harder considering light is emanating from your body. More importantly you do need to learn other skills if you are using things like area paralyze as that sucks up a lot of magicka, and you'll need other spells, potions, higher stats to counter-act that. Some enemies are also immune to paralysis making it an inefficient tactic if that is your only crutch. More importantly you are nearly always a juggernaut of death once you get to end game, as if you use your skills right you are pretty much immortal no matter what your specialty is. For example, a character that leveled his Speech-craft skill, his restoration skill to boost it farther and has a high personality will be ignored by a good half of the enemies in the game, with even some undead leaving you alone. With your Mercantile skill at 100 money is no longer a problem at all as you can buy and sell everything at a flat rate. The high levels are intended to be overpowered.Alpha Kenny Buddy 05:45, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Permanent Command SpellEdit

Is it possible to create a permanent command spell? — Unsigned comment by Broxigar (talkcontribs) at 04:22 on 25 July 2011‎

Why Paralyze?Edit

Why is paralyze considered so powerful? There are lots of creatures that resist it and it doesn't last all that long. Why not consider command creature/humanoid as the most powerful effects? Heck, considering the duration, you might as well stick to calm, am I right? 174.24.77.72 04:10, 12 October 2013 (GMT)

Calling a spell "powerful" is a subjective term, but I think the average reader will agree that casting a spell that renders an opponent completely helpless, even for a short time, is pretty powerful. The command and calm spells don't really help you defeat an enemy all that much; they will immediately resume combat with you as soon as you hit them again. --Xyzzy Talk 04:22, 12 October 2013 (GMT)
