Oblivion talk:Claude Maric

Unexpected DeathEdit

"...when he's not treasure hunting in the area's Ayleid ruins..."

Is that true, does he actually go to Ayleid ruins? If so, is it possible for him to die there, because (according to this page) he is not essential? NOTE- This means on a NON-quest related basis (i.e. When not on the Nothing you can possess and Secrets of the Alyeids quests) --— Unsigned comment by Jiaan Phillida (talkcontribs) on 17 December 2007

I suspect that like all NPCs that travel to other locations, they're perfectly safe provided you're nowhere near them. Creatures and bandits and the like only appear when you're near, so provided you don't follow him to the Ayleid ruins, he can come and go completely unharmed. --TheRealLurlock Talk 23:41, 16 December 2007 (EST)

DestinationEdit

Where does he go if you decide to not give up the painting to him. He flees on his horse somewhere... — Unsigned comment by 76.66.8.98 (talk) on 19 December 2008

See the Notes on the relevant quest. He heads back to the Roxey Inn. –RpehTCE 04:22, 19 December 2008 (EST)
Is this the same as what happens at the very end of the whole Umbaccano questline, if he manages to still be alive?— Unsigned comment by 87.127.79.8 (talk) at 17:04 on 27 March 2010

Died more than once?Edit

When I first did this Quest, I had killed him and most of his men (Except the archer) at the end of "Nothing You Can Possess". However, he was alive and well when I did this quest. Has this happened before?58.178.82.19 05:33, 1 February 2009 (EST)

Could you be more specific about what quests you are talking about? I suppose the first 'Quest' is Nothing You Can Possess and I'm guessing that 'this quest' is Secrets of the Ayleids. If can point to a specific quest it will be easier to help you. --SerCenKing 08:29, 1 February 2009 (EST)
Sorry, I should have pointed that out. Yes, the quest I was talking about was Secrets of the Ayleids. I will try to be clearer next time. 58.178.71.80 06:20, 20 February 2009 (EST)

If you have killed Claude Maric before this quest, he will still meet you outside the ruin during the quest. He will not be hostile, and he will make comment on how you bested him before. Quite amusing indeed. — Unsigned comment by 84.209.0.208 (talk) on 26 May 2009
Does this mean that the Claude you meet at Nenalata is a different one than the one from Malada? Does the game disable one and enable the other? I suppose it is possible to kill Claude at Malada, if you paralyze him or one hit kill him.
It would be interesting because if hes a different 'spawn' at Nenalata, its no use to try and equip him with zero-weight armour before that, as it would dissapear. (I guess.)
I like Claude and have just enchanted a seven piece set for him. Ill give it to him before stage 60 of the quest at the Roxy and see if he has them at Nenalata, for my own curiosity. Ill print results here.
But maybe someone with access to the construction set can more easily figure these things out:) --Merari 02:34, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
It's not true. If he's dead, he's dead. rpeh •TCE 02:50, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

() Ok, thank you:) He is not at the Roxey during quest stage 10 though. I was there for an entire week. Baurion, Pranal, S'razirr, yes. Looks like hes not at 20 either. --Merari 03:21, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Ok, disregard that last one, Im pretty sure that on this game hes dead:(
He did not show up at Nenantala at all. My Claude must have died after Malada, so of course he didnt show up at the Roxey. On the plus side, S'razirr gets to live this time. I dont know how he (Claude) died, Im sure I didnt kill him, I saw him run off cloaked.

Random Illusion Spell, eh?Edit

I walked into Roxey Inn while playing today and saw a random invisible NPC in there. I thought it was someone from Aleswell, but it was Claude Maric, who for some reason had cast Invisibility on himself before I had arrived. I wonder what the heck he was fighting outside the Inn before I got there. Just thought I'd mention this, since NPC behavior gets strange like this sometimes. - KeitaKoneko 02:39, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

If you take a look at this discussion, you will see that you are not the only one who have met Claude wearing his chameleon-enchanted equipment (the same equipment he will use at the end of the Nothing You Can Possess-quest). Krusty 07:26, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

NotesEdit

Moved from article

  • Claude Maric is not flagged as an essential character and therefore can be killed prior to the related quest 'Secrets of the Ayleids'.

I don't think it is needed on the page as I'm fairly certain the quest is not affected by him being dead - Emoboy64 16:14, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

Bug or not?Edit

From the Bugs section on the Claude Maric page: If you raise Maric's disposition towards you and get him to tell you where Malada is, he will mistakenly say that it is to the far west of the province, when it is in fact to the east. Is this really a bug? Seems to me more like he's just trying to misdirect the competition, it'd certainly be in character for him to do so. 98.214.211.253 06:08, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

Chair Glitch?Edit

When meeting Claude for the first time, he invites you to have a drink at the Tiber Septim. Once there, however, he is suspended in a chair, displaying the falling animation. When one goes over and talks to him, the actor appears to hit the ground and die of fall damage, though he will answer any questions so long as you didn't leave the conversation. Easter Egg?Edit

As we know that the Quest in which you first meet Claude is a reference to Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Is it likely that Claude is a reference to Belloq, especially considering Belloq is French and Bretons [Which Claude is] are based on French. What do you think? --5.70.197.150 11:32, 15 September 2014 (GMT)

I think you're right. The title of the quest Nothing You Can Possess is also a line from the beginning of Raiders where Belloq says: "Dr. Jones. Again we see there is nothing you can possess which I cannot take away." --69.19.80.176 05:12, 20 October 2014 (GMT)
I see absolutely no other similarities between Belloq and Claude Maric, so come on and please try a little bit harder than some wild speculations based on an suggestion that Bretons are based on French. That could be just a coincidence, as Bretons are one of only ten possible races to chose from. —MortenOSlash (talk) 17:52, 20 October 2014 (GMT)
