Oblivion talk:Blade

Can we add formulas for the power attacks? Do they perform the same % damage increase for blades (and different size blades) as they do for blunts or for hand-to-hand? Also, has anyone found a good way to use the backwards power attack? Since the character moves backwards while performing it, even with a longsword I find myself out of attack range when I try to perform this style. It's only when it's timed perfectly, such as while an opponent is charging, or when I'm already backed into a corner and can't back-up any more, that I am able to use this very effectively. Nevertheless, the knockdown is quite useful and if I can get it off, I can often kill the opponent before they can regain their feet. Disarm looks cool but often its very difficult to keep the opponent from regaining their own weapon or finding another nearby. Krep 12:47, 30 October 2006 (EST)

Could someone find and put in the percentage for power attack perks? It would be nice to have. Vethrian 20:07, 6 April 2007 (EDT)
The construction set lists the following values:
  • fDamagePowerAttackBonus = 2.5
  • fDamagePowerAttackForwardBonus = 2.5
  • fDamagePowerAttackSideBonus = 2.5
  • fDamagePowerAttackStandBonus = 3
  • fDamagePowerAttackBackBonus = 2.5
A factor of three increase in damage from a power attack is consistent with the only tests that I know of (at Oblivion Talk:Molag Bal). I'm going to go ahead and add this information to the various articles, although if anyone else could confirm these numbers using in-game testing I'd appreciate knowing the results. --NepheleTalk 23:35, 8 April 2007 (EDT)

Practice ManikinsEdit

I'm sure we've all seen practice targets with archers shooting them, or manikins with an NPC wailing away at them. I was wondering though, can you use those targets to skill up in weapons, or are they just there for looks? --Mole126 04:42, 16 February 2008 (EST)

Looks only, alas. –RpehTCE 04:53, 16 February 2008 (EST)

Percentage?Edit

I got, from the article, that there was only a PERCENTAGE/CHANCE that it would have the special effects (Disarm, Knockdown, Paralyze) of the power attack, What is the % of this CHANCE? Jetty78.149.38.9 12:55, 11 December 2008 (EST)

Old question, but the article (now at least) lists the chance of the power attacks all having a 5% chance of applying the special effect on the target. I don't think this is right, though, or at least there must be other factors that also affect it. By my experience, the backwards power attack and the forward power attack work far more often than the sideways power attack. I even did a small test to confirm this, by summoning a skeleton hero, and trying the sideways and backwards power attacks on it 30 times each. The result: Skeleton was disarmed: 0/30. Skeleton was knocked down: 7/30. -Weroj 09:50, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Two-handed, useful?Edit

This may not be the place for it, but I'm unclear on the exact different between two-handed weapons and one-handed ones. Or rather, I'm unclear of any perks to using a two-handed weapon such as a claymore instead of a longsword and a shield, other than maybe one or two weapon damage in exchange for a much slower attack speed and rather poor blocking capabilities. The latter seems like it would come into play more for someone who attacks slowly, as they wait for the approperiate times to block and to strike. So I want to ask, could someone tell me why one would use a two-handed weapon instead of a one-handed weapon? — Unsigned comment by Lovless510 (talkcontribs)

Generally speaking, the benefits of using two-handed weapons are:
- Increased damage
- Increased range (you can hit enemies from slightly further away)
- Increased chance of 'staggering' opponents (due to the weapon's increased weight)
- Increased enchantment capability
The main disadvantage is that you can't use a shield with a two-handed weapon (but you can equip a shield to get the benefit of any enchantment).
Other than that, it's just a question of personal taste. I like the look/style of a two-handed sword, but prefer the protection of a shield. --Gaebrial 04:12, 6 January 2009 (EST)

BugEdit

I've got a little bug with my one-handed swords.Sometimes, when I make a power attack, the animation is the same as a one-handed blunt weapon's power attack animation. Also,I can't make a forward power attack.I'm sure that any of the mods I use are not causing this.Does anyone know why this happens? --Neekerisanni123 10:15, 5 February 2009 (EST)

Come on,help me :'( My weapons have worked fine until now,my one-handed swords refuse to work as normal, and the only power attack I can make is the basic one, wich has the same animation as the basic blunt power attack. Heeeeelp! --Neekerisanni123 13:47, 23 April 2009 (EDT)

If nobody replies, it doesn't mean that we're deliberately withholding information, it means that nobody knows a solution. My personal answer to the problem would be "don't use power attacks: they're rubbish anyway". Beyond that, I have no idea what might be wrong. –RpehTCE 14:04, 23 April 2009 (EDT)

Well, this bug has no effect to gameplay, but it's rather annoying. Usually it is fixed if I use the console to set my blade skill to 100 and back to what it was earlier. --Neekerisanni123 14:13, 23 April 2009 (EDT)

The answer to your question is well, depending on your blade skill. Anything below the directional power attack perk, all other power attacks basically look the same. The Grand Champ 22:48, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

MisprintEdit

I just thought it was worth pointing out that in the game, the definition it has for the Blade skill is, "Deliver the slashing and THRUSTING attacks of dagger and sword weapons more effectively". I wanted to note that, as far as I know, there are no thrusting attacks in Oblivion. I'm just saying it's Bethesda's bad, and was wondering if anyone else caught this?

Well, not exactly. You can push your sword forward, so you are prettty much thrusting with it. And I think Bethesda weren't being so Literal. --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 00:57, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Edit: If your blade skill is high enough there is a literal thrust attack when you do a forward power attack. I don't believe that it is a misprint.— Unsigned comment by 216.105.183.77 (talk) at 10:17 on 21 October 2011

Constant power attack?Edit

My Blade is up to 98, and the past few days it appears that my swords constantly power attack. Is this because my Strength stat is really high, or is there something that may have been toggled? I have tried other weapons, and I always power attack. It's mildly annoying, because it makes fighting fast foes a pain, but sneak attacks really wipe targets out. FMPhoenixHawk (talk) 16:08, 12 April 2013 (GMT) -Okay, looks like when in sneak mode, you use the Power Attack animation. Standing normally and everything is fine. FMPhoenixHawk (talk) 00:02, 19 April 2013 (GMT)

Paralyze durationEdit

The master level perk of Blade is a power attack that has a chance of paralyzing the target. But what I want to know is the duration of the paralysis. — Unsigned comment by 2.83.131.151 (talk) at 14:28 on 13 August 2014
