Oblivion Mod talk:Clean Save

Necessity of this pageEdit

I don't find this page to be necessary, nor do I find it notable. As stated in the lead section, "A clean save is always relative to the mod plugin in question. What it generally means is to remove the mod from your load order, load a save game, and make a new save that does not have the mod in it at all. If you are upgrading, then activate the new version of the mod, load the Clean Save file, test the mod, and finally create a new save containing the replacement." This little tidbit could easily go on one of our other Tes4Mod pages, if necessary. I don't understand why all the steps need to be painstakingly illustrated when that quoted explanation communicates the same information in three sentences as the rest of the page has. Renaming the save, heading to the testinghall, waiting at the end, and creating a "safe location" save all seem to be unnecessary steps. Backing up the ini might be worth mentioning, though, if this information is placed anywhere. Vely►t►e 01:59, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

I agree with your reasoning, and agree that the page should be deleted. Snowmane(talkemail) 02:41, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
I proposed this page precisely because the detailed steps go beyond the vagueness of the suggested three sentence summary. (Even that much does not exist on this wiki.) A summary presumes an understanding of the process that is unrealistic for someone searching on the subject. Given the style guidelines call for depth over breadth, more than three sentences seems appropriate under the circumstances. It was originally developed on the Bethesda Forums in response to questions as to what was exactly involved in the process. It seemed more appropriate to preserve it here than in a thread that is likely to be purged in a year. Every step was recommended by an experienced community member, and no one provided all of them. In the end, the concensus was that it was the most complete seen to date. That there is room for debate on specific steps is acknowledged by providing explanations for their inclusion in the interests of stability. It's much more difficult for someone to include a step they don't know about than to drop one they decide is not necessary in a specific situation. Moving it to another TES4Mod page would be reasonable, except that the subject seems to be specific enough to be considered 'off-topic' elsewhere. And, frankly, I couldn't find a page to add it to in that namespace. Dubious 04:47, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Cleanup?Edit

I've made cleanup changes such as removing manual numbering. Any further suggestions in that regard? Dubious 09:06, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
