Morrowind talk:Balmora

As the Morrowind Rework Project gets underway and quest pages are reworked, any "red" links showing up under related quests will gradually be filled in, along with any missing quests related to Balmora that aren't currently listed here. Thanks for your patience as we improve the site for our users. --Hoggwild5 16:24, 2 November 2006 (EST)

Commoners, Paupers and suchEdit

Why don't Commoners or Paupers get their own NPC page? I know they don't offer any services or are related to any quests but Oblivion has it's own page for each NPC commoner or not. --Matthewest TCE 03:46, 3 May 2008 (EDT)

See this. –RpehTCE 03:52, 3 May 2008 (EDT)

Pilot for town pagesEdit

This is a major cleanup attempt for the dismal, confusing and bloated town pages. Layout has been cleaned up, quests and people are offloaded to sub-pages. What else should be on a town page? Homes come to mind, for one. Love to get some input. --BenouldTC 21:53, 3 May 2008 (EDT)

Redesign FeedbackEdit

I like the new page layout... except for the navbar at the top. That's not to criticize Game Lord's design, more that there's nothing similar on any other page so it sticks out a bit. I also wouldn't have such a prominent section on Moonmoth Legion Fort, given that it's a separate location with its own page. As you've already noted, the Balmora Homes article should be linked somwhere too. Otherwise it's a great redesign of what was a rather text-heavy page. Congratulations! –RpehTCE 04:36, 6 May 2008 (EDT)

Thanks for the feedback, Rpeh. I toned down the Moonmoth Legion Fort references and removed its image. Balmora Homes are now linked in the navbar. Once the regional maps are implemented, the city pages are done. Any additional details can be added over time, I suppose. --BenouldTC 18:39, 9 May 2008 (EDT)

Council Club, Lucky LockupEdit

Noticed that these are red links; are articles planned for these locations? I'd be glad to get a couple of screenshots for use later on. – KJR1012 Talk Email Contribs 04:35, 10 May 2008 (EDT)

Yes, they are going up pretty soon. Balmora needs a new main image to replace the gif/yellow shot, Hlaalu council hall, the Council Club and Lucky Lookup. Take a look at the fiximage list, basically all the MW city shots tagged needs replacing, since they are either from outside sources or Gifs. --BenouldTC 04:59, 10 May 2008 (EDT)
What is wrong with GIF-formatted images? I though we accepted them. --HMSVictoryTalk 05:01, 10 May 2008 (EDT)
Gifs are max 256 Colors, not really great for Beauty Shots of City vistas. -BenouldTC 05:05, 10 May 2008 (EDT)
I see. Sorry for yet another senseless waste of your time. --HMSVictoryTalk 05:13, 10 May 2008 (EDT)
OK, I'll get on it. Will have a go at the others on the fiximage list, too. – KJR1012 Talk Email Contribs 06:50, 10 May 2008 (EDT)
Bear in mind that you don't want to completely clog the page up with images, so take it easy. --HMSVictoryTalk 06:55, 10 May 2008 (EDT)
Yeah. I imagine that most of the places in Balmora might have their own pages, where the individual images would be more appropriate. – KJR1012 Talk Email Contribs 06:59, 10 May 2008 (EDT)

New ImagesEdit

In addition to replacing a few, here are a couple of new ones for use later on:

KJR1012 Talk Email Contribs 07:29, 11 May 2008 (EDT)

Since the pages for The Lucky Lockup and The Council CLub are now up, I've deleted the images here to save space. – KJR1012 Talk Email Contribs 02:33, 12 May 2008 (EDT)

"Notes" DiscrepancyEdit

Under the section Notes, it says "You can steal anything from the crates outside the buildings without getting a bounty. This is the only town in which this is possible."

This is not so; I can steal from crates in Pelagiad without consequence. Nobody202 13:23, 19 May 2008 (EDT)

Did the Guards see you when you looted the crates in Pelagiad? Most other containers belong to someone in Morrowind, hence it is a crime to loot them.--BenouldTC 13:43, 19 May 2008 (EDT)

Removed the "This is the only town in which this is possible." bit, since most containers outside in cities don't belong to anyone. -Meisterdieb 06:39, 24 December 2008 (EST)

I've used the Good Question template (with the latest date - please correct me if I should have used the date in May) to flag this for attention as it's the sort of thing that would be useful on the various getting started in MW pages. The containers in Balmora look to be 100% unowned, same with Pelagiad and Ebonheart. The ones in Gnisis are mostly owned, but then they're usually an obvious part of stores. Somebody better with the CS than me might want to take a look. Dr Jones 06:55, 24 December 2008 (EST)
Meusterdieb has answered it, there are certainly other places with free garbage crates. I would suggest to any new player to use "TFH" console command for checking ownership, rather than looking at all the towns in the CS, as even in Balmora there are a few items outside which randomly belong to a faction. Lukish_ Tlk Cnt 23:54, 24 December 2008 (EST)
Yes, except people playing on the XBox can't use the console. It's the sort of information the wiki should display - at least for the major towns. Dr Jones 05:03, 25 December 2008 (EST)
I was under the impression that XBox had a quicksave. If you want to start a guide on free junk in towns, don't forget about Vivec. Some of the cantons are well stocked with crates in the plazas. Boats in towns very rarely have ownership. There are a lot of small caches of equipment in towers and forts, though they sometimes have ownership. Lukish_ Tlk Cnt 14:40, 25 December 2008 (EST)
You've missed the point there. Many new players will head straight to Balmora so the information that there's loads of free money around is valuable. That same new player may well take Cossades' advice and join a guild... perhaps head to Gnisis or Sadrith Mora on a quest, and try to grab some more quick cash only to be attacked by everybody.
In other words, we need to try to strike a balance between useful information for new players and maintaining lists of every unowned crate in the game. Saying "use quick save" isn't very helpful either, I have to say. Yes, it works, but you can say that about anything in the game, and it's... well... cheating. I'd say that the note should come off this page and go on the Starting out page along with a brief note about a couple of other cities that offer freebies. We're trying to help but not put everything on a silver platter. –RpehTCE 16:28, 30 December 2008 (EST)
I remember having a list of free loot locations, was that on the wiki somewhere or did I just fail to finish it by myself? Perhaps one of you was part of that project, or saw it on the official board. Lukish_ Tlk Cnt 08:08, 20 May 2009 (EDT)

Missing "horizontal TOC bar"Edit

Hello, sorry if this is a stupid question but I did notice that the page for Balmora appears to be different from those of Ald-ruhn, Pelagiad or Caldera, that is, the "horizontal TOC bar" seems to be missing. I was trying to restore/create it but I'm not sure exactly how to go about it. I am unable to see any code that could be copied from the other towns and, when I looked at Balmora's history, I found a somewhat hard-coded "horizontal TOC bar", similar to that of Vivec's page (the city, not the Chimer) It was removed on April 22, 2011, revision 659729, if it helps. Anyway, I was just about to do some revisions on <<Town_Name>>_Homes pages and I was just wondering where Balmora's "horizontal TOC bar" went. Salamangkero 13:32, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Hey, nice catch! Turns out the TOC you were talking about is just part of the {{Morrowind Town Table}}. All it needed was a little |header=yes and it's good to go again ;). Thanks for pointing it out! eshetalk 13:38, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
Return to "Balmora" page.
