Lore talk:The Doors of Oblivion

Nietzsche reference easter egg?Edit

The quote at the start sounds much like Friedrich Nietzsche's quip "If you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes into you". Is this notable enough for a mention on the page? — Unsigned comment by 207.228.60.204 (talk) on 29 August 2010

It could be a reference to a dozen different warnings that prolonged contact with X will make you more like X. I don't believe it's definitely a reference to Nietzsche, or that it's noteworthy. rpeh •TCE 07:46, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
Further research shows that, yes, there are all kinds of different flavors of that comment, from "gaze into the abyss" to "he who fights dragons". Nietzsche was just what sprang to mind. Thanks for pointing that out and holy Sithis did I forget to sign that?! oops. 207.228.60.204 22:17, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Divine ComedyEdit

This story of someone passing from one Oblivion realm to the next is very similar to the book Dante's Inferno when Dante and Virgil travel from one circle of Hell to the next.

Could be a reference, inspiration, or maybe just me. — Unsigned comment by ‎Winch1990 (talkcontribs) at 01:50 on 17 November 2012

This book first appeared in Oblivion, so if you're looking for this to be mentioned somewhere on the wiki, Oblivion:Easter Eggs is the page you want. That being said, I've read Dante's Inferno, and the similarity is superficial. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 02:06, 17 November 2012 (GMT)
