Lore talk:Sithis

Ixtaxh-thtithil-mehtEdit

So this rather obscure bit of lore originates from a bit that was present in the French edition of the Morrowind Monomyth, which includes the line (translated): "Even Hists recognize this strange entity they call Ixtaxh-thtithil-meht or "One who breaks the Egg"".

Understandably this isn't mentioned in the UESP, given that it was cut from other language editions and therefore shouldn't necessarily be considered canonical.

However, this isn't the only source from which we receive the name.

The Imperial Library references a now lost source (The Three Booksellers Interview is cited wrongly) for the literal translation of Ixtaxh-thtithil-meht as "Exact Egg-Cracker."

Ixtaxh-thtithil-meh is also, in a much more recent development, mentioned in Greg Keye's Infernal City novel. The line quoted verbatim: "An image arose behind his [Mere-Glim's] eyes; the great stepped pyramid of Ixtaxh-thtithil-meht."

Now while the original source for the TIL translation is vaporsource, and the novels mention no connection to Sithis, the original French edition of the Morrowind Monomyth does directly connect Ixtaxh-thtithil-meht as the Hist/Argonian equivalent of Sithis. I think it should be included on the page but I would like to hear what everyone else thinks.24.165.197.90 02:27, 22 January 2015 (GMT)

VerificationEdit

Some links to give some kind of background here are almost essential. At the moment all we have is a mass of claims - totally unsupported. I know this isn't Wikipedia, but still! --RpehTalk 18:57, 7 September 2007 (EDT)

Well I saw his info on The Imperial Library, but put it more into my own words really.--Willyhead 06:21, 8 September 2007 (EDT)
However since there are many myths about Sithis conflicting with each other, the Imperial Library had to try to put them all together and say what roughly happened in the Creation- so it's not 100% accurate.--Willyhead 06:32, 8 September 2007 (EDT)

I read the entry on Sithis in the link you provided. You really did put it into your own words. It doesn't reflect what's written here at all. 68.166.66.23 03:03, 22 July 2008 (EDT)

serpent god of entropy?Edit

When is he ever called this? When is he ever even called a god? A TIL search yields nothing, and this sounds like a forum description. — Unsigned comment by Temple-Zero (talkcontribs)

That's because it is. Someone posted that entire first sentence in a thread on Gamefaqs, liked the way it sounded, and decided to post it here too. In a wiki =/ It means absolutely nothing, and is never so much as uttered in game as far as I am aware⅝.--94.171.184.82 21:16, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Sithis and ArgoniansEdit

Shouldn't it be mentioned that Sithis seems to have a connection to the Argonians? I mean, Argonians who are born in the Shadow birthsign becomes Shadowscales, who then becomes members of the Dark Brotherhood (if they survive), which, as I see it, indicates that Argonians are very willing to serve Sithis. If you agree with me, I could add it, but of course, I want to see what you think first.

Also, Argonians worship the Hist, and the Hist worship Sithis. --Macros the Black 17:21, 21 February 2009 (EST)
Yeah, that too, thanks for bringing it up :P --81.237.203.10 17:39, 21 February 2009 (EST)

So, should I assume that I'm free to make those edits now? BTW, the IP in the above two comments are me, just in case you wondered.

Sithis' formEdit

Yea, when i played Oblivion and accidentally "betrayed" the DB. when i woke up in my bed in Battlethorn sithis in his spirit form came and attacked me, i got a nice knife but i wondered if someone could maybe go play Oblivion and possibly hurt someone with their fists and then sleep (i can't really remember how) and try to take a pic of sithis, i believe that would be kinda cool to post on this page.

PronounsEdit

While we wait for more people to talk on the Padomay page about the page merger (cough cough), I wanted to see what consensus there is on pronouns for Sithis, since that's been a bit of a debate on the page apparently. Argonians have primarily used 'it' for Sithis, Fadomai is referred to with she/her, the dark brotherhood uses he/him for the Dread Father, and 'they/them' has been occasionally used at various points. Should we continue using he/him for Sithis as a whole, just since the DB version is the most familiar, or should we switch it to they/them or it to incorporate the lack of a consistent gender? Jacksol (talk) 00:39, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

It can be noted for sure, but Sithis the Dread Father is always a him so I would go with that. —Legoless (talk) 00:55, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
I'm fine with "him", but I wouldn't be opposed to using "it" or "them". --MolagBallet (talk) 05:44, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
Return to "Sithis" page.
