Lore talk:Greybeards

TagEdit

This article has been tagged for cleanup on the grounds that Skyrim may change its content considerably, but I was under the impression that Skyrim was more or less being ignored until release and the hard facts that would follow. On these grounds, I think that it should be untagged from cleanup. Apollo Quinn 18:25, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

What I meant with the tag is that this page is a high priority for someone to go through existing Lore and add everything relevant (with references) so that people looking for information on Greybeards before TESV is released can get accurate info. rpeh •TCE 19:12, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

3-1-12Edit

I added some information, pictures, and did some editing. We still need a lot more for this page. — Unsigned comment by Tsxgrimreaper (talkcontribs) at 00:36 on 2 March 2012

Too specific?Edit

I believe this passage,

"The two groups vied for influence over the champion, but eventually, the Blades shunned the Dovahkiin, refusing to provide assistance so long as Paarthurnax remained alive. The Greybeards, naturally, continued to protect their leader, believing his experience invaluable and his nobility beyond reproach."

may be a bit too specific for a Lore article, seeing as whether or not to kill Paarthurnax is a choice made by the player. This passage seems to specifically state that the Dovahkiin spared Parthurnax. Schiffy (talk) 13:49, 28 October 2012 (GMT)

Hmmm...I don't think it really states that the Dragonborn spared him or killed him. It doesn't specifically say one thing or another. The Blades do kind of shun you right after giving the you the quest and the Greybeards continue to protect Paarthurnax. It's neutral in my opinion.--Skyrimplayer (talk) 13:54, 28 October 2012 (GMT)

Evidence for Balgruuf?Edit

"Renowned figures such as Balgruuf the Greater and Ulfric Stormcloak have either failed to develop their skills or failed to live by the Way."

What is the evidence that Balgruuf the Greater has any aptitude for the Voice? He says in MQ104 that he made the pilgrimage to High Hrothgar, but this does not mean he went there for training or because he had aptitude.— Unsigned comment by 71.198.141.161 (talk)

It's a good point. He says "To climb the 7,000 Steps again... I made the pilgrimage once, did you know that?" which doesn't really suggests he failed to develop his skills or failed to live by the Way - as the articles states. I have no problems if this is reworded. --Jimeee (talk) 09:54, 17 June 2014 (GMT)
What evidence do we even have that he trained with the Greybeards in the first place? It might be better to remove the mention of Balgruuf altogether. ThuumofReason (talk) 12:24, 17 June 2014 (GMT)
There was previously an error on the wiki regarding Balgruuf's association with the Greybeards. Someone (forgot who, might've been me) made the bad assumption that since he made the pilgrimage, he attempted to train with the Greybeards. This was eventually fixed, but evidently this page was overlooked at the time. So here we are. It's wrong; Balgruuf shouldn't be mentioned here. Note about Elder Scroll dislikeEdit

Not really sure how much relevance this has, if it's even true. I always took that dialogue to mean that they disliked the mages of winterhold for dealing with all-powerful objects like the elder scrolls, an act which they consider a blasphemy. Plus, just seems a little random. --PsychoMantine (talk) 10:58, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

I tried to make it more precise, but it's certainly relevant to this page, and the Notes section embraces random facts. [1] In response to where to find a scroll, which Arngeir doesn't know how you plan to utilize, he says, "Such blasphemies are the calling of mages, not followers of the Way." Any criticism he might be implying against the College would basically be derived from their handling of the Scrolls and similar such "blasphemies". He might be referring to the Elder Scrolls as blasphemies, or to any and all uses of them as blasphemies, but that becomes a distinction without a difference. OblivionEdit

I think it might be worth noting that the Greybeards were mentioned in Oblivion in random NPC conversations (exclusively by Nords) - the Greybeards were said to be declaring the end of the world was coming. — Unsigned comment by Desterine (talkcontribs) at 10:57 on 16 June 2016 (UTC)

According to cslist, the line is said by Nords and Orcs: "There are foul tidings from Skyrim. The Greybeards speak of the end of all times.", so yeah I think that's relevant info. --Jimeee (talk) 16:33, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
