Lore talk:Caldera

Caldera: Etymology discoveryEdit

Upon some research (due to noticing that the toponym is somewhat misfit among others like "Balmora" or "Ald'ruhn") I found out that the word has a Wikipedia and Wiktionary entries. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caldera https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/caldera And that it designates a special kind of landform that is related to volcanic activity - something that is quite prominent as a theme in Morrowind (-glances at Red Mountain-). Should this interesting fact be added to the article(s) on Caldera? --Teogara'is Beoganiusa'i (talk) 20:07, 26 May 2024 (UTC)

I always assumed Caldera was named after the depression in which the Caldera Mining Company is located, which does indeed look like a volcanic caldera, and that it wasn't noted because it was obvious. --Enodoc (talk) 21:29, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
Must be me being not familiar with the word then, so far two native English speakers (which I am not) knew its meaning. Oh well, :p
There might be others not aware of the definition, and since the Pages are about documentation (and, perhaps, education) it could be an addition still. Up to the decision of the elders, not some apprentice (me) --Teogara'is Beoganiusa'i (talk) 20:12, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
Yeah, it's just a normal English word. It would fall under "trivia" which we generally don't allow on the wiki, and especially not on lore pages. It would like be explaining was a "Sea" was on the "sea of ghosts" page. Jeancey (talk) 20:53, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
Return to "Caldera" page.
