Ysgramor's Teeth[1] is a mountain range in southeast Skyrim between the Throat of the World and the Velothi Mountains. This range marks the border between Eastmarch and the Rift, and it is because of this range that the Rift can maintain its temperate climate and avoid the cold winds of the Sea of Ghosts.[2] The main road runs along the base of the mountain and branches separately into either a pass that leads into Shor's Stone, or a sharp incline past Snapleg Cave and toward Lake Geir. There is a series of uncharted dirt roads on the western alps that come together at the north end of Ivarstead.[3]

HistoryEdit

The mountains were first discovered by the original Companions of the Fallowfire, who also coined the name. They spent quite some time trying to get over it and when they did, they discovered the Rift. When their war against the Snow Elves finished, they built a mead hall and mortuary for the fallen called Fallowstone Hall.[1] Over time, the Ancient Nords settled throughout the mountain and exploited resources underneath it. High on Ysgramor's Teeth is an Ancient Nordic monastery called Mistwatch, the home of the Ternion Monks, monks who continued to worship the Three Old Gods of the Nord's ancient totemic religion.[4][5]

At some point in time, the Ancient Nords also built a monument on Northwind Summit but whatever it was dedicated to is unclear.[6] They also built a temple in the mountain and near the waterfall that drains into Darkwater River. After it was abandoned, it was taken over by the Falmer.[7] There is an isolated tower called Nilheim found on the western main road, between the cliffs of Ysgramor's Teeth and the northeast shore of Lake Geir.[8]

Ragnor Stormcrag opened a series of mines throughout southeast Eastmarch and turned one of them at the base of Ysgramor's Teeth into his family crypt. It was a grand project that he could not live to see completed. He was buried in its deepest confines by his son, Agenor, who saw it finished.[9][10] Sometime ago, there was prospector named Sord Pot-Helm who singlehandedly dug out a cave bearing his name until his death at the age of 103. He believed that if he dug any deeper, it would reveal a rich ebony lode.[11]

Striped Fawn from Clearspring Tarn, a spring on the mountain, migrated south across the provinces and found a home with the Bosmer of Falinesti. They can be spotted anywhere but retain their original name.[12]
