Source: | The Elder Scrolls Whiterun Honorary Citizen Chest |
Because of your invaluable services to me and my city, and knowing that your unique skills may be decisive for the future of Whiterun Hold, I, Balgruuf the Greater, by my right as Jarl of Whiterun Hold, welcome you as an honorary citizen of our city and name you Thane of Whiterun. This is the greatest honor that's within my power to grant.
A personal housecarl will be assigned to you and a weapon from my armoury will be awarded to you as your badge of office. My guards will recieve immediate notification of your new title.
In the meantime, accept this chest which, in addition to a map of our city and the title to the property you have just aquired, contains our most precious symbols.
The medallion with the horse emblem.
Only two were forged in the time of Rasman the Red, first Jarl of Witerun. One has been passed from Jarl to Jarl, but so far no Jarl has ever considered giving the other one to a deserving person. It would be petty of me not to see that you are the one worthy of it.
The Whiterun banner.
The horse, symbol of our city, represents freedom, as well as the nobility, strength and loyalty of our people. Let it preside over your home in a visible place and let it fly at the head of your retinues as an ambassador of our community.
The key to the city.
Reserved only for the Thanes of Whiterun, it bestows upon you the quality of guardian of the city, while symbolising that henceforth, Whiterun is your home and its citizens your family.
The coins.
These unique pieces, taken from the city's treasury, were minted under Jarl Olaf One-Eye to commemorate his victory over the dragon Numinex. May they serve as a reminder that, as Thane of Whiterun you will never suffer hardships.
The ring.
Forged exclusively for you at the Skyforge by Eorlund Gray-Mane, this ring is engraved with the name of our city in Dragon Language and is a token of our thanks for delivering us from the threat of the dragon Mirmulnir.
Forever at your disposal,
Balgruuf the Greater, Jarl of Whiterun Hold
