Saint Pelin the Martyr was a Breton priest of Stendarr that ascended to the role of sainthood following his divine act in the defense of the Bangkorai Garrison in 1E 1029, which in turn, brought the province of High Rock into the First Empire of Cyrodiil.[1] He had become a folk hero to the Bretons of Evermore and the greater region of Bretonic-Bangkorai, memorialized by the chapel of St. Pelin in Evermore, the Order of Saint Pelin, the knightly order of the Kingdom of Evermore, and the great cemetery called Pelin Graveyard.

Blood BenedictionEdit
Pelin was born in the early First Era when the world was more untamed and the surrounding region was riddled with minotaurs and centaurs. At some point, Pelin was indoctrinated into the Temple of Stendarr, at their chapel in the Bangkorai Garrison. He was a beadle and tended to the spiritual needs of the soldiers and the guards, but he would also bring water to the sentries. In 1E 1029, the Gray Host, led by King Styriche of Verkarth invaded the garrison. As the enemy besieged the stone walls, Pelin ran into the chapel and prayed to the divines and the saints. Not long after, he was tending to the wounded and learned that soldiers lost their blood from bat-men. He ran up the garrison and offered his blood to the horde, who drained him dry. Crippled on the floor, Pelin prayed to Stendarr for an ocean of blood to flow out of him so that the monsters can be swept away. It was at that moment, blood came out of his decrepit body like a great flood, providing the horde a great feast and the soldiers a perfect distraction. The horde was nearly defeated, until the armies of Empress Hestra came to finish the fight. Pelin has since been remembered as a lesser-known saint.[1]
LegacyEdit
Saint Pelin's deeds are celebrated in Evermore. Every year at the Bangkorai Garrison, the people host the Red Parade, which has a re-enactment of Pelin's sacrifice.[2] His portrait is put on display throughout the stronghold,[3] and even a great tapestry is draped, depicting his heroic sacrifice.[4] Some depictions of Saint Pelin portray him praying to Julianos.[5] Some of his holy relics can be found in the St. Pelin Chapel, located in the main square of Evermore. One of the most illusive crimelords of Evermore, Splendid-Paws was said to have interest breaking into the chapel.[6] St. Pelin's Clods is a crude gemstone that is carried by the Order of Saint Pelin and even bears their insignia. It is made from Pelin's blood and the soil of Bangkorai.[7] Several of them are converted into necklaces, which can be recognized by the Pyre Watch.[2] In 2E 582, one of the rarest items in circulation was a crystal vial of St. Pelin's blood. Even if it was emptied the blood always magically comes back.[8]
Pelin's sacrifice is discredited by some as being fanciful.[9][10] The true history of what actually happened may never be known as the true account was lost to history, only fragments of what happened during that time are known to scholars. What is known is the combined might of the Bangkorai Garrison and the Alessian Empire played a pivotal role in the Gray Host's defeat. Magic also played a role in the events that transpired, but its unknown if the magic involved came from actual Divine invention as the stories of Saint Pelin claim, or if it was Alessian Sorcery.[11] However, Pelin's blood has magical properties as stated above, giving credence to his power.[8]
One of the pieces of the Tales of Tribute, a popular card game originating from the Systres Archipelago played continent-wide during the Interregnum in Second Era[12] bore the image of St Pelin. A deck themed after him and Knights of Saint Pelin was part of the game.[13][14]
