Lore:Ring of Phynaster

Lore: Artifacts: R

The Ring of Phynaster is an artifact of Phynaster, the Hero-God of the Altmer. The ring was created by Phynaster who needed security while surviving his adventurous lifestyle. Because of this, Phynaster lived for hundreds of years, and it has since been passed from people to people. The ring has become synonymous with Phynaster, so much so that it will not stay with anyone, other than Phynaster himself. When it is kept long enough, it will disappear to another resting place, for the next adventurer.[1] The ring was lost to Phynaster when he was killed by the Wharf Rats, a group of outlaws and cutthroats. The ring would be passed through the hundred of Wharf Rat headquarters, and a charm was cast onto the ring, so that it would always move to another Wharf Rat storehouse.[2]

During the Imperial Simulacrum in the late Third Era, a traveler had ultimately found a map to the Ring of Phynaster's resting place, and transcribed the location to the Eternal Champion. After delving through the dungeon, the champion had retrieved the Ring of Phynaster, breaking the charm and the group's grasp on the artifact.[2]

By the Blight outbreak in 3E 427, the Ring of Phynaster was located at the Senim Ancestral Tomb on Vvardenfell, Morrowind, on the corpse of Pop Je.[3] The Mentor's Ring was later found in a body of water by the Last Dragonborn while fishing circa 4E 201.[4]

NotesEdit

  • In early cut drafts for ESO's south Summerset zone of Varyllis, the Maormer had banished Auri-El from his place in the sky, so High Kinlady Astraela of Dusk helped in forging Phynaster's Ring from pieces of the Shattered Crown, which was spread throughout crypts in the city, to return the deity to his rightful place.[UOL 1]
