Lore:Masons' Guild

< Lore: Factions: M

The Masons' Guild is an officially sanctioned guild that has been active since at least the Second Era. As their name implies, they employ masons from across the Empire.[1] One of the only known positions in the guild is the Guild Historian, who is responsible for maintaining the records of the guild and studying the history of masonry in general.[2]

During the Akaviri Potentate in 2E 321, Versidue-Shaie gave his approval for the Guild Act, which sanctioned numerous guilds and businesses. Although Mason's Guild was not among the guilds sanctioned by the first act, many new guilds, that followed by later sanctions were formed.[1] Masons' Guild was already established and employed Guild Historians as of 2E 580.[2][3][4] All the sanctioned guilds named in the Guild Act, and those formed later were hence protected by the Empire of Cyrodiil, even into the Third Era, but would be required to pay them if they wanted to expand their influence. The Empire had subsequently strengthened since the Guild Act was passed,[1] and the creation of guilds was considered beneficial for the Tamriel as a whole.[5] The Guild Historian of an unknown branch of the guild, Gastinus Florus, authored a treatise on Altmeri architecture,[2] which was later cited in The Improved Emperor's Guide to Tamriel by Flaccus Terentius.[3] As of 3E 405 masons in the region of the Iliac Bay were often hired to repair stonework at various temple holdings, estates of the local lords and cities.[6]

NotesEdit

  • An organization known as the Stonecutter Guild was active in Markarth circa 4E 201. They were responsible for floating the quarried stone slabs down the Karth River to other cities on barks.[UOL 1]
