CaimanEdit
Caimans are predatory aquatic reptiles that are similar in appearance to crocodiles and alligators. Quickwater Caimans are a variety that can be found in Quickwater Cave in Cyrodiil.[1]
CamelEdit
Camels are ornery mammals found in the deserts of Hammerfell and Elsweyr. They often serve as mounts and beasts of burden. Camel hide can be used to make heavy leather that helps insulate the wearer against the desert heat.
CanahEdit
Canah are an exotic bird species of Summerset Isle which are bred for their beauty.[2] Shrines of Kynareth have been known to bless individuals with the ability to transform into one if an appropriate offering is given.[3]
CanaryEdit
Canaries are small yellow birds that can be found throughout Tamriel. Canary down is sometimes used to make pillows.[4][5]
CandleflyEdit
Candleflies are tiny flying bugs that glow a variety of colors.[6] They are similar to torchbugs but are much smaller, only being visible due to their glow. Breton families host annual reunions during the summer, where they gather candleflies to serve as a source of natural light during dinner before releasing them into the evening sky after dessert.[7]
CaracalEdit
Caracals,[8] also known as caracal lynxes or desert lynxes, are felines native to south central Tamriel, roaming the savannahs from Corinthe in Elsweyr as far north as the West Weald in Cyrodiil. They are the totem animal of the pastoral Khajiiti tribes, and assist with managing their herds.[9] Some Khajiit have fur patterns or ear tufts that make them ressemble caracals.[8]
CardinalEdit
Cardinals are small red birds that can be found in Skyrim, the West Weald, and the Wrothgarian Mountains.[5] Their feathers are commonly used to make quills.[10]
CatEdit
Cats are domestic felines that are usually found in populated areas. They come in several colors, such as brown, gray tabby, and seal point. The Khajiit share many feline features with cats, particularly the Alfiq, who are often confused for house cats outside of Elsweyr.
CaterpillarEdit
Caterpillars are minuscule, many-legged[11] larval insects found throughout Tamriel which eat leaves.[12] They can sport a variety of colors and patterns, including green,[12] orange and purple stripes,[13] yellow, and red.[14] Types of caterpillar are often incredibly diverse from one another, with some possessing furry backs[14] and others having up to sixteen eyes.[15] In nature, they are preyed upon by robins,[12] while Argonians are known to prepare them in their cuisine[11] and beverages.[14] Bosmer smoke caterpillars through bone pipes.[16] Inferniums closely resemble large caterpillars.[17]
At some point in a caterpillar's life, they develop a cocoon,[18] from which a butterfly or moth may emerge.[13] Caterpillar farms can be found in Black Marsh, where they are raised until they become moths and butterflies, at which point they are eaten.[13] Silks may also be harvested from caterpillar farms, which are spun into rough linens.[19]
Habanoo caterpillars are a rare species found in Betnikh that can have sixteen eyes.[15] Frondfire caterpillar cocoons are sometimes given as donations at the temple of Y'ffre.[18]
Caverns FishEdit
Caverns fish are strange, slug-like creatures found in the Goblin Caverns of Stros M'Kai. They live in rivers of acid and can be stood upon for safe traversal.[20] They do not appear to be actual fish.
CavyEdit
Cavies are small herbivorous rodents found in northeastern Blackwood, the West Weald, and central Northern Elsweyr. It is hard to win the trust of a cavy, but if one does they can make very affectionate pets.[21]
CelestialEdit
The Celestials are powerful ethereal beings formed by the power of the stars. The most powerful Celestials represent the Constellations. It is unknown if these beings are from Aetherius or if they are mortals who have achieved a state of ascension. Celestials can only manifest on Nirn through the use of Apex Stones, and the destruction of even a single Apex Stone can have devastating consequences to all of Mundus.
CentaurEdit
Centaurs (sometimes called Horsefolk) are a nomadic, intelligent, and spiritual beast race that possesses the head and torso of a tall powerfully-built man and the lower body of a horse. They are legendary creatures who are worshipped by some and despised by others. Considered to be ancient and mysterious, centaurs are capable of sophisticated speech, have their own language, and refer to others as "mortals", suggesting that they possess a greater lifespan. In Valenwood, centaurs were one of the many civilizations inhabiting the province's vast jungles, predating the elven inhabitants arrival. Following the fall of the Second Empire, they came to inhabit the abandoned human trading posts, and families of centaurs attended revelries in Falinesti alongside Bosmer, Wood Orcs, and Imga. The Elden Hollow beneath Elden Root was the final resting place for generations of centaurs and minotaurs. In High Rock, centaurs made their homes in the woods and hills of Bangkorai, having been more commonly found in the First Era. By the late Third Era, they were still encountered in the Iliac Bay regions of High Rock and Hammerfell.
CentipedeEdit
Centipedes are small creatures usually found in wooded areas. Centipede legs are sometimes used to make writing utensils.[22] The marsh centipedes of Black Marsh are massive specimens with nasty temperaments, and are eaten by the native Argonians. Marsh centipedes are used by some Argonian tribes during maturation rites.[23] Glow Bugs are a species of centipede that can be found in Evergloam.[24]
ChalassEdit
The Chalass is a mythical serpentine creature with a feminine form that is said to inhabit Black Marsh. Scholars regard them as fictitious folk tales, particularly when compared to the similar, credibly accounted Wispmother of Skyrim.[25]

ChameleonEdit
Chameleons are relatively small lizards known for their ability to blend in to their surroundings with color-changing skin.[26][27] Their eyes are known to look in opposite directions, and are sometimes referred to in metaphor.[28] The magical effect Chameleon is named after them, emulating their color-changing ability.[29][30][31]
ChaurusEdit
Chaurus are large hostile arthropods found in caves deep below the surface of Skyrim and in some cases on the surface. They possess highly poisonous saliva as well as a powerful bite. Chaurus are bred and raised by the Falmer, later to be killed and have their chitin used for armor. Ancient legends tell of the Snow Elves who allegedly raised colossal insects within the depths of caves, nurturing them until their nearly impenetrable exoskeletons could be harvested. The Gray Host tamed Chaurus in their experiments in Blackreach, using them as guards. Their meat is used in Nordic cuisine.
Chaurus HunterEdit
Chaurus Hunters are large hostile flying insects found in caves deep below the surface of Skyrim. They possess a highly poisonous ranged attack and a powerful bite. They are the second life stage of the Chaurus, which transforms into a Hunter after several days of death-like stillness.[32] Because Chaurus are commonly bred by Falmer for their chitin, Chaurus Hunters are often found living in close proximity.
CheetahEdit
Cheetahs are a species of spotted feline,[33][34] known for their speed.[35] Cheetahs are the subject of paintings popular in the Iliac Bay, depicting a woman laying naked next to cheetahs.[33] Many Khajiit have spot patterns resembling that of a cheetah.[34] They are the namesake of the "Boots of the Cheetah" a pair of fur boots that increase the wearer's speed.[35]
ChickenEdit
Chickens are docile, domesticated birds common throughout Skyrim and High Rock. They are bred for their eggs and meat. Although mainly encountered around farms and smaller settlements, they can often be found within cities and towns. Female chickens are known as hens, while males are known as roosters or cockerels (or simply cocks).
ChimeraEdit
A Chimera (also spelled Khimera) is a dangerous fantastical, ever shifting and changing creature "patched together" from different sources. In ancient times, they were dark forces in the wilderness around Tyrigel that the Altmer knew to avoid. The Druids of Galen created chimeras to function as guardian beasts. They were given form through Blood Magic in honor and sacrifice of Y'ffre. All chimera are claimed to have been created by the Druid King himself. Physically, these chimeras had the heads of a gryphon, a lion, and a snake or wamasu. After their exodus to the Systres, the druids created chimeras to safeguard their newfound home, influenced by the trials that they had already faced. The purpose of the Chimeras was to guard and preserve ancient druidic relics and sacred locations, ensuring their utmost safety and sanctity. Chimeras are fiercely territorial, and the wounds inflicted by them tend to heal slowly, but alchemical concoctions utilizing components harvested from chimeras' heads can aid in the healing process.
ChipmunkEdit
Chipmunks are small, striped rodents. They can be found in the Iliac Bay,[36] Elsweyr,[37] Blackwood,[38] and are said to be particularly abundant in the Reach.[39] Certain Orcish totems were known to make sounds similar to the chirping of chipmunks when cleansing the corruptions of nature.[40]
Chub LoonEdit
Chub Loons (also called chubloons or loons) are small, flightless birds native to coastal regions and usually encountered in frigid environments. They are primarily encountered along Tamriel's northern shores and ice floes, specifically in High Rock and Skyrim. They make an audible honking noise when startled and will run away from known dangers. They can often be found huddling in large groups in order to retain body heat. Chub Loons do not flee from danger and are often caught and eaten as food as a result. Though clumsy and awkward on shore, Chub Loons fly gracefully and are nimble swimmers. Their diet consists of small sea fish of all types. They are also known to make affectionate pets.
CicadaEdit
Cicadas are a species of burrowing winged insect. Natives of the Reach traditionally used the husks of cicadas as offerings to the Daedric Princes. Cicada husks represent rebirth to the Crow-Eye Clan.[41][42]
ClamEdit
Clams are a species of bivalve mollusks found commonly in Skyrim.[43] They are capable of producing pearls and are considered akin to kollops.[44]:315 Their meat can be used as a source of food. Giant Clams can be found on the beaches of the Summerset Isles.[45]

ClannfearEdit
Clannfear are ferocious reptilian Daedra that resembles a lizard with a large, bony crest on their head, as well as a sharp beak and talons. They have tough scales on their body, and their mouths are lined with razor-sharp teeth for tearing flesh. They are generally thought to be of animal intelligence, though it is possible that they are intelligent enough to speak. Clannfear are of low status, and are sometimes branded to reveal their loyalty. Clannfear cannot use tools, so they attack their foes through biting, clawing and lashing with their tail spikes. They can be formidable, but they are by no means clever. They are known to serve many Daedric Princes and can be found throughout the various planes of Oblivion. In-fact every Daedric Prince is said to possess legions of clannfear among other common Lesser Daedra. Despite this, some attribute them to Mehrunes Dagon. They can occasionally be found lingering near Daedric Ruins on Nirn.
ClawrunnerEdit
Clawrunners are small, pale-scaled, orange eyed, horned bipedal creatures native to the area of the Western Reach region that overlaps with Hammerfell. They are part of the Fanged Gouti species, their relatives being Wickeders and Bounders. These creatures collectively have appear to have backs that are lined in plates of armored scales, pointed mouths that are almost as large as the rest of their body, and they all have an area of exposed gums visible from their face. Clawrunners have the ability to paralyze their opponents. Their skin is known to have powerful alchemical effects. The creatures weren't commonly heard of.[46]
Cliff DarterEdit
Cliff Darters are small, feathered flying reptiles that can be found throughout Morrowind. They are related to Cliff Racers, Cliff Striders, Bantam Guars, and Scuttlers.[47]
Cliff RacerEdit
Cliff Racers (also spelled as Cliffracers or Cliff-Racers), known to consist of species such as Long-tailed Cliff Racers and Girdle-tailed Cliff Racers, are large flying reptiles found throughout Morrowind. They possess long tails and large vertical sails along their spines. They are closely related to Cliff Striders and Cliff Darters.
They are very aggressive and will attack anyone in sight. Cliff Racers have good vision range, and will often detect and follow travelers without being noticed. This can result in swarms of them descending upon the unwary adventurer.
Cliff StriderEdit
Cliff Striders are a species of large, winged, reptilian creatures once found in Vvardenfell and the Telvanni Peninsula. They are related to Cliff Racers and Cliff Darters, and the three species coexisted contemporaneously. Unlike Cliff Racers, Cliff Striders have great difficulty flying despite their wings, and consequently spend their lives on the ground, while using their wings to glide from cliff heights. This lack of true flight does not stop them from being successful predators however, as they prey on much of the local wildlife, including man and mer. Their young are known as Cliff Skippers and are hatched from large nest mounds built from dung. After hatching, the young enjoy some measure of protection from at least one of their parents, but it is unknown whether both guard their progeny or not. Despite their aggressive nature, and distasteful attributes, they are still admired by Vvardenfell culture, and some are tamed as pets.
CoagulantEdit
Coagulants are gelatinous creatures made of coagulated blood, similar in appearance to Voriplasms. They can be created or summoned by powerful Vampires.[48] Weak Coagulants are known as Lesser Coagulants.[49] Virulent Viscera are another type of ooze of similar origins, though they are purple in coloration rather than red.[50]
Cold-Flame AtronachEdit
Cold-Flame Atronachs are a powerful Elemental Daedra native to a pocket realm of Oblivion called the Fourth Sinus of Takubar. The cold-flame atronach summons an essence of cold fire, and has a freezing ambiance that notably drops the temperature nearby, the same way the flame atronach gives off heat.
Cold-flame atronachs came to serve Molag Bal after an incident involving a flame atronach which led to their banishment from Coldharbour. A concerned denizen wanted a hovering sentry that possessed the flame atronach's same expressionless violence to fill the void they left behind. After searching over 37,000 planes and realms, he found a suitable replacement on the Fourth Sinus of Takubar. Cold-flame atronachs served as sentries in Coldharbour during the Planemeld.
Like other atronachs, it can be summoned in different forms: Peregrine Direnni was the first to summon one in the shape of a wolf.
Coldharbour SentinelEdit
Coldharbour Sentinels are Daedric constructs that can be found in Coldharbour. Within the realm of the Daedric Prince Molag Bal, they hold a pivotal role in guiding his vision throughout this plane of Oblivion. Through the aid of these constructs, Molag Bal can observe and monitor the activities of his prisoners, who are scattered throughout Coldharbour's various dungeons and prisons.
Coldharbour Sentinels are not simply independent entities but are interconnected through a complex system of magical bonding. Thus, the destruction of one Sentinel inevitably leads to the impairment of other Sentinels bound to it, as this disruption fractures the network of magical connectivity that exists between them.
They possessed varying roles or purposes, as there were at least four types of Sentinels in Coldharbour: the Sentinels of Debilitation, who are capable of inhibiting movement speed of those they behold, the Sentinels of Dissipation, who can drain life force out of those they gaze at, the Sentinels of Enfeeblement, who are capable of reducing battle prowess of those they see, and the Sentinels of Vulnerability, who make those in their line of sight more susceptible to physical and magical harm. Smaller, but mobile eyes of Molag Bal were known as Coldharbour Ocular Observers. Some of them had a reputation for being more curious and less vigilant than Molag Bal would have like.
CootEdit
Coots are water birds that are known to inhabit Lake Rumare in Cyrodiil.[51]:Part 3, Chapter 2
Coral CrabEdit
Occasionally referred to as the "Coral Mudcrab",[52][53] the Coral Crab is a type of sandcrab native to the beaches of the Summerset Isles and Systres Archipelago. They can also be found in the Inner Sea of Morrowind. Usually blue, purple, or red in coloration, these crabs are distinguished for the large coral growths on their shells. Both the crab and the coral can grow to significant sizes, posing a danger to gourmands who attempt to harvest their eggs from the sandy beaches where they are buried.[54]
Corprus HuskEdit
Corprus Husks are deranged victims of the dreaded Corprus disease, which has no known cure. Their skin becomes stretched by great purple boils and they attack everything in sight.[55]
They are similar to the Corprus Stalkers created by Dagoth Ur's iteration of the disease, with the main difference being they expel infected bodily fluids and vapors, in combat and in death, causing a great risk of infection for their victims.[55]
Corprus StalkerEdit
Corprus Stalkers are deranged and deformed victims of the dreaded Corprus disease which has no known cure. Great care must be taken when confronting these creatures as they have become incredibly tough due to the disease, and may infect you with Corprus. They are capable of regenerating damaged health. Lame Corprus are those in a more advanced state of the disease.

CowEdit
Cows are female cattle, large, docile, domesticated animals common throughout High Rock, Hammerfell, and Skyrim, especially on farms, where they primarily eat hay. Males are known as bulls. Cows from Skyrim are also called highland aurochs, and are used for their meat,[56] dairy,[57] and hide.[58] They are sometimes given to Giants by local farmers as an offering.
CoyoteEdit
Coyotes are canines which can be found in Hammerfell. Proverbs involving coyotes, such as "If a goat introduces itself to a hungry coyote, it will be consumed," are used among the Redguards.[59]
CrabEdit
Crabs are crustaceans that possess two front-facing appendages with claws on the end. There are several known species of crab, with the most prevalent being the mudcrab. Other crabs are typically considered lesser than mudcrabs in aspects such as ferocity. Most crabs have hard shells, but softshell varieties also exist. Crabs of all species can grow to absurdly large sizes.
CrayfishEdit
Crayfish (or crawdads) are a type of crustacean. They moderately resemble lobsters and shrimp. The Gold Coast Crayfish can be found in the sunny waters of the Gold Coast. The Pearlescent Crayfish can be found on Artaeum. The Shalk-Brother Crayfish can be found in Vvardenfell. The Karth Crayfish can be found in lakes around The Reach.[60]
CricketEdit
Crickets are small insects[61] renowned for their spryness.[62] They are known to loudly chirp.[63] In Orsinium, small house crickets are kept in cages for good luck.[64] "Crispy cricket legs" is an expression used to convey frustration.[65]

CrocodileEdit
Crocodiles are large reptiles that can be found in swamps and near rivers throughout Tamriel. There are many uses for the parts harvested from a crocodile. Necklaces made from these teeth may be worn by young Argonians during their maturation trial.[66] Crocodile hide makes for both sturdy and attractive armor, while baked crocodile tongue is a dish commonly found in Black Marsh.[67][11] White crocodiles are extremely rare.[68]

CrosswingEdit
Crosswings are insects that inhabit Valenwood. They are believed to have a fierce bitterness when they die afraid. The Bosmer use spells to attract them as part of the process for brewing beer from meat.
CrowEdit
Crows are black birds that can be found all over Tamriel. A group of crows is called a "murder". They are commonly associated with the Daedric Prince Nocturnal.[69][70] They should not be confused with their Daedric counterparts, Crow Daedra. Crows are sometimes cooked and eaten, and some Nordic platters exist to serve them in three ways: stuffed, roasted and boiled.[71] Scarecrows are kept in fields to keep crows away from crops.
Crow DaedraEdit
Crow Daedra, also known as Night's Messengers, are one of many Daedric species that mimic those found on Nirn. They are associated with the Daedric Prince Nocturnal. They differ from real crows in that they can talk and they have unnatural glowing purple eyes. They have their own feudal courts, the most notable of which are the Blackfeather Court and their rivals, the Exarchs of Dross. They do not consider themselves Daedra and instead think themselves to be real crows. They enjoy eating fleshy bits of mortal bodies, such as eyes. They also have a tendency to collect shiny objects. Crow Daedra procreate and lay eggs in order to hatch more of their kind.

CrystaljackEdit
Crystaljacks are venomous Daedric insects that resemble large dragonflies, though they are often referred to as wasps.[72][73] They are native to Mirrormoor, a lost Daedric realm. Unlike some of the other denizens of that realm, Crystaljacks appear to be organic in nature, with shimmering skin that simply mimics the appearance of mirrored surfaces.[74] They are known to emerge from cocoons.[75] They are creations of the lost Daedric Prince Ithelia, and can generally be found anywhere she or the forces of Mirrormoor have exerted their influence. Crystaljacks could be found throughout the West Weald circa 2E 582 during Mirrormoor's attempted invasion.
The Imperial Legion had interest in studying their crystallized venom.[76] Mortals are capable of training the creatures and keeping them as pets.[77][73][74]
CuckooEdit
Cuckoos are a type of bird. They were linked to certain gestures.[78] The term "rat-cuckoo" was used as a derogatory label.[79]
