The Augur of the Obscure is an immortal entity who resides in the Adjacent Place but manifests as a skull-shaped crystal.[1] He can perceive the world around him beyond the limitations of third dimension. Because of this, he has made many observations on seemingly static things such as mountains and trees, noting their ability to speak and the musical tastes they have.[1] He has been described as near-omniscient, capable of perceiving time differently from mortals, seeing it in all directions, and being fully knowledgeable on almost all things.[1][2][3] It was for these useful traits that he was summoned to Artaeum by the Psijic Order. There, they performed a ritual that bound his crystalline aspect to Nirn and ensorceled him to be compelled to tell the truth whenever asked a direct question.[1]

Circa 2E 582, the Vestige was initiated into the Psijic Order by Loremaster Celarus and tasked with finding the scattered and lost pieces of the Staff of Towers. The Vestige brought the Augur on this journey, where his supernatural, trans-dimensional abilities were put to use. Together, they traveled Tamriel, sealing all of the time breaches and locating every piece of the staff. The reassembled staff was subsequently stolen by Josajeh, a Psijic who intended to use the staff to alter time and undo the misfortunes that had befallen her family. The potential consequences of tempering with time in this way were severe and Josajeh was apprehended by the Augur and the Vestige, and she was exiled from Artaeum by the Psijic Order. It is assumed that the Vestige decided either to send the Augur along with Josajeh or to return him to confinement on Artaeum. However, the Augur defiantly chose to instead remain in the company of the Vestige.[4][5]

NotesEdit

  • Some believe that the crystalline skull through which the Augur manifests was once the skull of an old, dead mage.[3]
