Detailed WalkthroughEdit

As you head up to Bthanual, you'll hear a dark elf bemoaning his fate. Talk to him to start the quest:

"Stranger! Stranger! Stranger! I require your immediate assistance."
What happened to you?
"It's not important. My sister Kireth went into that Dwemer ruin, but she forgot to take my new control rod. I built it to deal with the spider constructs that infest the place.
She may not believe me, but she needs that rod."
So you want someone to take this control rod to her.
"Precisely. I'd do it myself, but one of those fetchers stabbed me when I tried to go after her.
Besides, I, um, forgot to take the control rod and had to come back for it, anyway. Here."

You may press him further for information as to why they are here, if you'd like; regardless, press on into Bthanual. Inside, dispatch any Dwarven Spiders in your way and you will soon find Kireth kneeling behind a pipe right outside the first chamber.

"About time you got here! I've been dodging spiders for what seems like forever.
Wait, you're not Raynor."
Not at all. But he did send me to bring you this control rod.
"Did he? I bet he got hurt fooling around with the spider constructs."
That's not exactly how he put it, but yes.
"How typical! Listen, this ruin is a two-person job. I need someone to cause a diversion so I can sneak into the next chamber.
Could you test that control rod on the spiders inside?"

With little chance to press her with questions, Kireth disappears. Her plan is for you to create a diversion by testing Raynor's control rod on the ruin's spiders and for her to sneak into the next chamber. Combat with the spiders is unnecessary —- though there is a fairly long cooldown between each activation, so you may have to engage a few of them. All you need to do is to come within mid-range and use the control rod. If it fails, the spider will crumble into a pile of scraps, but, if it succeeds, the spider will become your temporary follower. Head into the next chamber, where Kireth will be waiting for you in the entrance of the second chamber. After commenting on your new friend, she will discuss more of her plan:

"Look around! I had a quick peek at the machinery in here while I was waiting for you.
I think this entire chamber is some sort of complex Dwarven device."
What does it do?
"I have no idea! It might open that big door over there, or it might unleash a giant walking teapot with razors for arms.
There's only one way to find out, right?"
How does it work?
"I'm not sure. Its emitter ... thing ... is broken. I could fix it if I had some spare parts.
Hmm. Maybe we can get your sparky little friend to help us."

Kireth wants you to backtrack to the first chamber and destroy the automata there. Once you finish doing so, use the control rod and your friendly Dwarven spider will start to collect the scrap Kireth needs to repair the Dwarven relic she found. This time, the control rod has no cooldown, so you can destroy the spiders you need and do it all in one fell swoop. Return back to Kireth, hunched over the relic in the northeast corner of the second chamber, and give her the parts:

"Good timing. I think I almost have this contraption figured out. Did you get the parts?"
The spider did most of the work.
"So Raynor's control rod actually works. Do you believe it?
Let's see those parts. I think I know how to fix this thing."

After you're done handing her the parts and completing the quest, you can talk to her further to see what the device does.

Quest StagesEdit

The Dungeon Delvers
Finishes Quest Journal Entry
I need to enter the ruins to begin my search for Kireth Vanos.
Objective: Enter Bthanual
Kireth entered the ruins without her brother, who was injured trying to follow her. He invented a control rod to deal with the constructs inside. I need to take it to his sister.
Objective: Find Kireth Vanos
Kireth wants me to create a diversion so she can sneak through the next chamber. She suggested I use her brother's control rod to capture a Dwarven spider. She thinks it might take a few attempts.
Objective: Use Rod Until You Capture a Dwarven Spider
Hidden Objective: Use Rod To Capture a Dwarven Spider
After a number of attempts, I finally got one of the Dwarven spiders to follow me around like some kind of pet. So that's what the control rod does! I should find Kireth Vanos in the next chamber and show her.
Objective: Find Kireth Vanos
Kireth needs spare parts to repair the Dwarven device. Since Dwarven constructs scavenge parts from broken automata, I need to break a few spiders. Then I can use the control rod to direct my follower to gather the parts.
Objective: Use Rod on Defeated Spiders: 0/3
Finishes quest  My spider collected the parts Kireth needs to repair the emitter. I should find Kireth and give the parts to her.
Objective: Find Kireth Vanos

* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
