Low Leveled Gold

Angwe dances for Veenaza because of a bet.
The drunken cook, Angwe, is in trouble. She bet her hunter friend that she'd collect ingredients from beasts all over Shadowfen and cook him a feast in Hissmir. Now sober, she is afraid to venture out into the fen, for fear of these same creatures.

Quick WalkthroughEdit

  1. Talk to Angwe.
  2. Find Veenaza on the outskirts of the city.
  3. Find the creatures and collect the ingredients.
  4. Meet Angwe and Veenaza in Hissmir.

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

Speak to Angwe, not far from the Stormhold Guild Hall, to start the quest:

"If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times ... no more drinking! My head's splitting, my mouth feels like a kagouti nested in it, and I'm in serious trouble.
I don't suppose you'd care to help out a down-on-her-luck chef, would you?"
How can I help you?
"Go back in time and cut out my tongue! No, then I wouldn't be able to taste my wonderful cooking.
Last night, I made a terrible bet with a hunter friend of mine, Veenaza. I told him cooking was art and hunting was peasants' work. He took offense."
Tell me about this bet.
"I boasted I'd hunt Shadowfen, collecting ingredients from exotic animals: an alit's heart, a kagouti's ribs, eggs of a giant wasp, and delicious mudcrab claw meat. I'd meet him in Hissmir and prepare a feast to prove it.
But I can't hunt!"
I'll hunt these creatures and meet you in Hissmir.
"That's one of the problems. I know you can find these beasts all over Shadowfen, but I don't know where. And I'd get killed if I went roaming around the swamps!
You'll ... you'll have to ask Veenaza. But don't let him know I sent you!"
How do I do that?
"Just appeal to his vanity. The old lizard's pride got me into this--I don't see why it shouldn't get me out, too!
He's probably just outside the city, hunting. That's what he does all the time. Thinks he's the greatest gamesman in Shadowfen."
By the way, what are the terms of your bet?
"Don't ask! What I have to do if I lose ... it doesn't bear thinking upon.
Just know that if I lose this bet, I'll have to stay drunk for the rest of my life to live down the shame!"

Veenaza is just outside of Stormhold, hunting at the city's eastern edge. You'll find him crouched over a dead guar. Talk to him:

"This guar gives its life so we may have meat. Now, I give you my time. Why?"
I need help with my hunting. I was told to talk to you.
"Oh? Do the winds speak my name? Or the birds? Or is there, perhaps, someone else who told you to speak with me?
My adriotinosity is known throughout the fen, of course, but it whispers only to its creatures. And me, of course."

At this point, you have two choices, but they only affect Veenaza's response and not the rest of the quest:

I asked around. Everyone told me to talk to Veenaza.
"Everyone? The metropolinia hum with tales of my vigoritude. Well, who am I to deny them?
Go ahead, ask your questions."
I need to know where to hunt the creatures of Shadowfen.
A cook named Angwe. She told me not to tell you.
"What? Ah, the rivers grow torentious stories of her perfitudinousness. Let me guess: She's asked you to hunt for her, fearing to brave the fen she so easily mocked while in her cups.
Go ahead, ask your questions. I will deal with her later."
I need to know where to hunt the creatures of Shadowfen.

Either way, Veenaza will instruct you on the creatures of Shadowfen:

"The fens speak to me readily about their bountinosity of beasts. Please, ask me about any of these and I will stupendify you with my knowledge.
But know that most beasts of the fens can be found anywhere ... if you are wise enough to find them."
Tell me about the giant wasps.
"Interesting, but deadly insects. They can be found singly or in swarms. Beware the wasp queen! She has a mighty sting and is often protected by her lesser drones.
Wasps dwell mostly in the Venomous Fens, the southernmost region of Shadowfen."
What can you teach me about mudcrabs?
"Mudcrabs live all over the world, but the sweetest of the hard-backed beasts live here, in the Reticulated Spine.
The foul-tempered creatures can be found all along the northern region of Shadowfen."
Is there a difference between alit and kagouti?
"Larger and more deadly predators than the kagouti, alit hunt the Venomous Fens, along the southern edge of Shadowfen.
Be careful. These beasts carry a disease called ataxia. You'll find yourself staggering and weak if you let them bite you."
What about the kagouti?
"They are two-legged predators, more aggressive than guar and similar in some way to alits. They eat anything they can fit in their large mouths.
To hunt them, search the central regions of Shadowfen, in Leafwater."

Once you're thoroughly stupendified, travel to each location in turn. Kill at least one of each creature, and harvest at least one of each ingredient. Then, head to Hissmir. At this point, you can still choose who to aid: Angwe or Veenaza.

If you speak to Angwe:

"You made it! I wasn't sure if you would. I haven't had a drink in days, but if you've got the ingredients I need, it's time to celebrate!"
I did your hunting. Now what?
"Give me the meat ... quietly! Veenaza is here, and he's suspicious. But if he doesn't see you pass me the ingredients, he'll have to admit I won the bet."
Glad I could help.
[side with Angwe and complete the quest]
Let me think for a minute.

If you speak to Veenaza:

"What a fortunitious event, meeting you here! I hope your hunting went well."
It did, thanks. And what are you doing here?
"Settling a bet with my friend, Angwe. She disparulted my profession and I mean to see that she is properly punished. You know something about our wager, I believe?"
Yes. In fact, she had me do her hunting for her. Here's the meat I found.
[side with Veenaza and complete the quest]
Let me think for a minute.

Helping out either character will complete the quest.

Siding with VeenazaEdit

Veenaza will be quite happy that you've helped him:

"My gratitudinous knows no bounds. I'm not certain my reputation would survive the humiliation of paying off this bet."
"Here, take this. It may not help a hunter of your obvious adroitinosity, but you deserve something for your efforts."

Once the quest is completed, Angwe and Veenaza will approach each other.

Veenaza:

"Your perfitudity has been explosited! Now, pay up, Angwe!"

Angwe will begin dancing and singing:

"Veenaza is a hunter, he hunts both east and west! If you ever need a hunter, Veenaza is the best! I'll never be able to show my face in Hissmir again...."

Siding with AngweEdit

Angwe will be quite happy that you've sided with her:

"Help? You saved me from a fate worse than death! What that Argonian had planned ... well, you'll see. The claw's on the other foot, now.
Please, take this reward. It's not much, but you've earned it tenfold."

Once the quest is completed, Angwe and Veenaza will approach each other.

Angwe:

"All right, you lizard! Here's the meat I collected. Pay up!"

Veenaza will immediately begin dancing and singing, sheepishly:

"Angwe is a hunter! A hunter of great skill! She always gets her quarry, and she always, always will! Oh, the humilitude ..."

NotesEdit

  • The quest will mark locations on your map to check for the various ingredients you need to gather. However, these locations are sub-optimal; the entire region for mudcrabs seems to contain only a single mudcrab spawn point; the entire region for kagouti seems to contain only a single kagouti spawn point; et cetera. It can be tempting to hunt outside of these regions for the needed specimens; however, the various animals will not drop the needed quest items until you have visited at least one of the objective locations. Once you've visited at least one of the quest locations, the animals will spawn the proper quest items no matter where you find and kill them.

Quest StagesEdit

Shadowfen Smorgasbord
Finishes Quest Journal Entry
Angwe doesn't even know where to hunt alits, kagoutis, giant wasps or mudcrabs. She want me to talk to the very person she made the bet with, Veenaza, and get him to tell me what I need to know. She's begged me not to tell him why.
Objective: Talk to Veenaza
Veenaza says all these creatures can be found all over Shadowfen, but that they're most populous in the following areas: kagouti in Leafwater, giant wasps and alits n Venomous Fens, and mudcrabs in Reticulated Spine.
Objective: Collect Wasp Eggs
Objective: Collect an Alit's Heart
Objective: Collect Kagouti Ribs
Objective: Collect Mudcrab Claw Meat
I've collected all the cook's ingredients and I need to take them to Hissmir. But I also need to decide: Should I take them to her so she can win her bet, or should I give them to Veenaza and reveal his drunkard friend's plan to cheat him?
Complete one: Talk to Angwe or Talk to Veenaza
Finishes quest  I've chosen to help Angwe win her bet. I just need to give the ingredients to her.
Objective: Give the meat to Angwe
Finishes quest  I've decided to give Veenaza proof his friend is cheating to win their bet. All I need to do is hand over the ingredients.
Objective: Give ingredients to Veenaza

  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
