Solve a riddle to find an inheritance.
Zone: Stormhaven
Location(s): Wayrest
Reward: Very High Leveled Gold (if the inheritance is kept)
Average Leveled Gold (if the inheritance is given to Donel)

In the Wayrest graveyard, I found the last Will and Testament of a scholar named Frodibert Fontbonne. Frodibert challenged his son Donel to solve a riddle to claim his inheritance. Donel gave up, but maybe I can solve the riddle.

Quick WalkthroughEdit

  1. Solve the Riddle
  2. Follow the Streetlamp Trail
  3. Search Under the Street Lamp
  4. Search the Attic Room (Cloudy Dregs Inn)
  5. Open Frodibert Fontbonne's Chest
  6. Find Donel Fontbonne and Give Him the Inheritance OR Keep Donel's Inheritance
  7. Ask the Wayrest Recruiter About Donel Fontbonne

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

As you walk through the Wayrest cemetery, you'll notice a scroll resting on a grave:

"<You see a note scribbled in the margin.>
'Father, I now realize what a disappointment I was to you—a brilliant scholar and his thick-headed son. Was this puzzle in your last will a joke? Either way, I give up. I'm enlisting tomorrow.
Goodbye.'"
<Read the Will.>
"'In death as in life, I would dedicate all my resources to supporting my dear son Donel and specifically to expanding his intellect and furthering his education.'"
<Continue reading.>
"'In that same spirit, I would like to pose a challenge of wits for Donel to claim his inheritance. The clue to begin the challenge is this:
'After day turns to night, you must follow the light.'
Good luck my son. I am proud of you.'"
This sounds like a fun challenge.

In order to Solve the Riddle, you should Follow the Street Lamp Trail. The first streetlamp you should interact with is just northeast of the quest starter. Upon walking to the first streetlamp you can follow the trail of streetlamp up to the last one, or simply walk to it.

First street lamp:

"<You find an arrow carved into the wood of the lamppost.>
<This arrow points south.>"

Second:

"<This arrow points north.>"

Third:

"<This arrow points east.>"

Fourth:

"<This arrow points north.>"

Fifth:

"<This arrow points east.>"

Sixth:

"<This lamppost has an X carved into it, and an arrow pointing down.>"
I should search around the base of this streetlamp.

Once you reach the last streetlamp you are supposed to search under it in tall grass.

"<You search the tall grass beneath the lamppost and find a key with a small note attached.>
'You found the key in streets, but now you must search the sky. No time for sleep or drink, go straight to the top of the clouds.'"

This gives you another objective: Enter Cloudy Dregs Inn and its second floor. There are doors to the Attic Room. Search the Attic Room by examining "For Donel from Father" note on a desk. This makes nearby Frodibert Fontbonne's Chest lootable.

"<You find a pouch filled with gold inside the chest.>
<This is obviously the inheritence of Donel Fontbonne, left for him by his father.>"
Donel gave up on his inheritance. I'm going to keep it.
"<You've taken the money. Donel Fontbonne will never know what his father left him.>"
This money belongs to Donel Fontbonne. I will try to find him.
"<You've taken the inheritance, storing it carefully to give to Donel when you find him.>"

This is where you decide whether to keep the inheritance or not.

If you chose the second option, you seek out Recruitment Officer Orgak.

"Hm. Don't get too many seasoned warriors showing up as new recruits, but we'll take you.
Or were you here about something else?"
I'm looking for a new recruit named Donel Fontbonne
"Yes. I remember him. Who could forget a name like that?
Fontbonne enlisted a few months ago and asked to be sent straight to the front lines. May be hard to find. What do you need with him?"
I have his inheritance from his father.
"You have his inheritance? That's certainly something he'll want to receive.
I'll send word out to get his location, and then I'll send a special courier to ensure this gets to him."
There's a note from his father as well.
"Thank you. I'll make sure that gets to him too.
Don't know if you're a friend of the family or what, but we appreciate you going to so much trouble. Take this for your efforts.
I'll let you know when I've tracked down Scout Fontbonne."

Notes
* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.

NotesEdit

  • If you read the will a second time <Read the Will.> will change to <Read the journal.>.
