Malanwen

Malanwen is a female Wood Elf ranger and arena fighter that can be first encountered during either A Question of Murder or Pool of Despair. She is found in Town after this.

In the arena, Malanwen uses an elven war axe and an elven shield. She is weak to fire damage. She can use poison cloud, blind, and consuming inferno.

Malanwen fought in the Great War on the side of the Empire against the Aldmeri Dominion, she and Henrik Seven-Swords fought alongside each other. In one battle she went toe-to-toe with a Thalmor swordmaster when an enemy mage conjured a Dremora to flank her, however, Henrik came from behind and cut down the Dremora in an avalanche of mighty blows. Henrik then picked up the Dremora's sword and slew the conjurer with it. After the Great War, they trained together in arenas.

A Question of MurderEdit

If you have already met Malanwen in Pool of Despair she will say:

"Hello, <PlayerName>!"
Malanwen?
"In the flesh! I wasn't sure I had heard correctly when they told me you were participating in the tournament."
You're a combatant?
"Occasionally...This is how Henrik and I originally met, you know? Before the war, I mean... He fought quite a bit back then... Hearing of this tournament made me feel nostalgic for those days, so I signed up."
We may have to fight each other.
"Oh, I know. I hope you'll still talk to me afterward if I win..."
Good luck.
"Oh, I'll be fine."

This will lead to the same conversation that takes place if you haven't met her before:

"Are you investigating the fighter who was found dead?"
I am.
You heard about it?
"Everyone is talking about it. I heard he was part of the grand champion's entourage, is that true?"
Yes.

Either will lead to:

"Dreadful business, that. I hope it's not the doing of one of the other combatants."
You think it's possible?
"Some people take this whole business much too seriously. We're here to entertain the people. Getting addicted to the glory of victory can make someone forget that. I'll keep my eyes peeled for anything that might help you find those responsible. Take care, Warrior."

Tournament - Round 2 FinalsEdit

When approached in the arena if you have never met her before:

"Hello, <PlayerName>. I wish we met under different circumstances. I am the ranger Malanwen. I'm a good friend of Henrik's. Well, I was..."
(?)

When approached in the arena if you have met her before:

"I had a feeling we'd meet again soon. Now I'll see if Henrik was telling the truth about your prowess!"
He was.
"Good! Let us begin, then!"
I'm a better fighter than him.
"So am I, Warrior!"

Once the fight is over:

"Henrik was right... You really are an exceptional fighter. I'm glad we fought here, in the arena. I wouldn't want to have to face you outside of it."

Pool of DespairEdit

When first approached if you have completed A Question of Murder: (?)

When first approached if you have not yet completed A Question of Murder:

"Hey! Are you Henrik's protégé?"
Shouldn't you be thanking me?
"For what? You're just doing your job, aren't you? I'm joking. Thank you very much for saving me. My name is Malanwen. Let me tell you what's going on here."
I was. My name's <PlayerName>.
"Brilliant! I thought you might be the one to save me. It's amazing to finally meet you. I'm Malanwen. Circumstances could be a little better, of course."
Do I know you?
"You do now! I'm Malanwen. Henrik is a friend of mine. Well...he was. I'm still not used to thinking that he's gone. I would thank you for saving me, but..."

All choices will lead to:

"There's a crazy little cult hiding in this cave, and you have to stop them."
Cult?
"Yes, they're insane. And the leader gives me the chills. They've been kidnapping people and sacrificing them in the waters of this cave. I haven't seen it myself, but I can hear everything from here."
That could be why the crops are dying.
"What? Crops are dying now? How long have I been in here...?"
That's awful.
"Yes, and I would have been next."
Okay.
"Do you... want to know what they're doing?"
Okay. (This will lead to the dialogue above)
Not really.
"Suit yourself. It's quite awful, anyway."

All the options will lead to:

"Please stop that cult. I would help but I have been here so long without food that I can't fight. Also... I think I heard some footsteps behind you. Be careful on your way out."

If spoken to again:

"Go deal with that cult! We can talk later."

Once you're both back at town:

"Ahh. I don't say this often, but I'm glad to be back in civilization. What a horrible situation. Many of those villagers owe you their lives, Warrior."
As do you.
"Yes, I was in a bit of trouble, wasn't I? I'll return the favor some day."
They owe me nothing.
"Henrik must be proud of you. You're just as stoic and honorable as he is!"
"Thank you for getting me out of there. Anyway. Let's see each other again in less exciting circumstances, yes?"

Like Father, Like SonEdit

"Hello again, Warrior. I don't remember if I mentioned this, but your mentor Henrik and I... we were dear friends. I have a request for you. It's about Henrik's son, Jonathan. He's a priest of Talos, so he's been hiding from the Thalmor since the war ended. Their agents are finally searching this kingdom, which means it's time for him to move. Would you go and bring him safely to me?"
I will.
"Thank you. I'd go myself, but I'm afraid of a run-in with the Thalmor. You're better equipped to deal with them than I am."
No.
"I see. Please reconsider. We don't have much time."

You can also ask:

How can I trust you?
"Well, I was there when Henrik received his prized Ebony Longsword. Shall I tell you the story?"
Sure.
"He and I fought together in the war. When we were back to back, nothing could stop us. One day, I was going toe-to-toe with a Thalmor swordmaster when an enemy mage conjured a Dremora to flank me. I would have been done for, but Henrik came from behind and cut down the Dremora in an avalanche of mighty blows. Henrik then picked up the Dremora's sword and slew the conjurer with it. I'm sure I don't need to tell you how much he valued that blade."
Okay, I'll help you.
He never told me you were there.
"We've kept our friendship quiet. But I knew him most of his life. He was one of the best of us."
Not necessary. I believe you.
"Very well. Then you will help?"

If accepted she will say:

"When you're ready, I'll show you the way."

If spoken to again:

"Thank you for agreeing to help Jonathan. It's a relief to know he'll be safe."

Once you return:

"So the Thalmor were already there... damn! I wish I had come with you. But I suppose there was no need. You took care of it handily. You have my thanks."
What will he do now?
"He and I will venture north for a bit. We will find some sympathizers and he will find a place for himself. I look forward to our next meeting."
You're welcome.
"Frankly, some society will be good for him. He's been alone too long..."

If spoken to again:

"I think I might come back here once Jonathan is safe..."

DialogueEdit

When spoken to in town:

"This town is more beautiful than I remember."
"I hope the townsfolk are treating you well."
"I can see why Henrik stayed here. It really is beautiful."
