Concerning SkoomaEdit

Not that it really matters to me any, but the reason I changed the "Oblivion:Skooma" link to "Lore:Skooma" is because the 'Oblivion specific' version doesn't really exist. There's a page on it, yes, but when you try to edit the Oblivion:Skooma page, it makes changes to Lore:Skooma instead. This means that the 'Oblivion specific' page contains things that are not Oblivion specific (Such as Skooma prices in Morrowind), and makes it impossible to change. In fact, after having tried to edit the Oblivion version of the Skooma page to make it more 'Oblivion specific', I had to revert my changes since it made them to the Lore version instead.

Again, it doesn't really matter, but I thought it would be less frustrating to potential editors if it was done the way I had. Simply 'fixing' the Oblivion page would work too, but I don't have the authority or knowhow to do that. 67.60.187.161 18:24, 13 April 2009 (EDT)

Actually, it does contain plenty of Oblivion-specific information: the sections on Skooma in Oblivion and Skooma Availability contain information that are only pertinent to the game of Oblivion, and therefore that information does not appear on other pages such as Lore:Skooma. Oblivion players who want more information on Skooma are going to find that information only on Oblivion:Skooma, which is why that is the appropriate link to use on any Oblivion page.
The first section of the Oblivion skooma article is transcluded from the Lore article -- which is commonly done on many of our articles. However, that is just one section of the article, and clicking the edit link at the top of the Oblivion article allows you to edit the Oblivion article, just like any other article on the site. --NepheleTalk 19:03, 13 April 2009 (EDT)

Unnecessary DeletionEdit

Hey, You made me a little mad, so I'm going to probably make you a little mad by writing on your profile. It's fair right? Earlier today I posted the following under Proposed Glitches in Oblivion: "== Staggering Back == First off, this glitch happens to me on the 360.

So I started a new game (Keep in mind, this is not the first time I've played Oblivion, I've logged over 300 hours over several game saves), because I got tired of my "kill everyone in one hit because I'm way too high of stats" game. So I followed Septim and he's silly noob guards through the sewers, where one got owned in the face by a Dawn member. Well they ditch me, the wall crumbles, and rats come out.

Now this is where it gets weird. The rats attacked really fast. So fast I couldn't attack them back, block, or even run away. I just went stumbling backwards until the rats finally drained my health and I died a horrid death. So I reloaded and tried again. But yet, it still occured. Someone over on Gamespot made a thread about this, but there was only one worthwhile reply, which said it was called a stagger loop, but didn't say how to fix it. So any help is apprechiated. I did try starting another new game, but that didn't help any. " You said it wasn't a glitch, so either you read it wrong, or I needed to explain it better. It sent me into a continuous loop, it didn't just happen one time. This essentially made it impossible to do any combat.

Sincerly, Person that writes on your profile

What I gathered from your post is that (a) you're being staggered, which is a game feature not a glitch and (b) it's happening repeatedly because the rats are faster than you are which, again, is a game feature not a glitch. I've been killed many times by the first rats in the tutorial, especially when playing at maximum difficulty, and what you're describing sounds like what I've experienced as part of standard gameplay. If that's not the case, then your explanation needs serious revamping to make it clear what exactly is supposed to be a glitch -- where a glitch is a coding error, not just a standard game feature that happens to make the game difficult. It would probably also help if your post didn't ramble on with unrelated facts, personal opinions, and other distractions that make it very difficult for readers to figure out what parts of your post are actually relevant. The purpose of wiki articles is to help other readers -- they're not supposed to be forums where you make personal requests for assistance. If other readers can't properly understand your post, then it's definitely not going to help other readers. --NepheleTalk 23:55, 14 April 2009 (EDT)
you know, neph is right, dont just ramble stupid crap that doesnt make sense only Daniel Tosh can do that :D. anywho. try going to the door. when the guards start going thru it step back to the beginning part and look towards where the hole comes from. when the wall crumbles use flare to kill the first rat and block for the next one, dont worry about charge attacking him just hit him twice and block. repeat this until he dies (this is how i got thru that difficult time). not a glitch its just annoying.

MediaWiki PagesEdit

Hey Neph, I'm not sure if you know about this and are currently coding the fix, but with MediaWiki:monobook.css blanked, the wikitable class has dissapeared, and all the tables that used this class stand out completely against the site's skin. See here. If you're not already, could you see into getting that back to normal? Thanks! - Game LordTalk|Contribs 21:43, 17 April 2009 (EDT)

I'm seeing the page still looking like normal, and the wikitable class is still defined, just in a different file than previously -- what happens if you hit Ctrl-F5? --NepheleTalk 22:08, 17 April 2009 (EDT)
Oh, my bad. Though I dunno why they'd appear like that suddenly. Probably some cache problem. Oh well, fine now :) - Game LordTalk|Contribs 22:10, 17 April 2009 (EDT)

My badEdit

yeah soz bout the insults but dear lord you really need to clean up that page its not clear at all whats going on, and since i have discovered the corruption duping flaming weapons and perma cloning and now statues how bout a little respect aye? — Unsigned comment by Wolfgangster (talkcontribs) on 21 April 2009

did you know? that if you critisize how the site is setup they ban you from this site? well its not like it a real ban, they went for ip so a fast connection can just prozy it like me but jesus christ what a bunch of insecure dickheads. — Unsigned comment by 67.159.5.99 (talk) on 21 April 2009

You're absolutely hilarious! The subtle irony of asking for "a little respect" while simultaneously acting completely disrespectful. The overblown hyperbole of your claims. The wonderful absurdity of asking other editors to grow up while using grammar and spelling that implies you're still in grade school. LOL;)
Except it's a bit hard to laugh after realizing the sad reality that you're probably not trying to be funny. In which case, I pity you. And hope that there's someone out there who cares enough for you to put you in anger management classes before your antisocial behaviour really messes up your life. --NepheleTalk 12:06, 21 April 2009 (EDT)

Search IssuesEdit

A few minor issues regarding searching that I noticed recently. I know the first issue list below seemed to only occur after we added UespCustomCode (was working about a week before that).

  • rsync -- This used to result in UESPWiki:Mirror_Plan but now gives no pages at all. In fact, other unique words from that page don't seem to work either (like mysqladmin).
  • oblivion artifact -- Doesn't give the expected Oblivion:Artifacts result with the title only search. I've done a few searches like this that don't give the obivous result that they should.
  • oblivion artifacts -- Just tried this and it only gives me the category and not the obvious result (title only search).

-- Daveh 10:19, 27 April 2009 (EDT)

The problem with Mirror Plan isn't something I introduced: there's a bug in the code producing the search index terms that drops the entire page contents if the page contains a "<" symbol without any subsequent ">" symbol. The bug's always been there, so I'm guessing that between your two searches you added one of the two sections of text that contains "<".
Similarly, the problem with namespaces in titles has always been there. I tweaked the code so that at least if you do "oblivion:artifacts" the search (or go) will work (see my comments in the code for UespSpecialSearch.php about "fails miserably" -- that exact same set of code and comments had previously been in my modifications to SpecialSearch.php). I could potentially change that tweak to work even without the colon, i.e., so that it always checks the first word of a search to see whether it corresponds to a namespace. Although that would be a lot trickier to implement correctly: you wouldn't want searches on "Redguard" or "Arena" to always be forced to those specific namespaces. Alternatively, if I'm going to be messing with the search index code anyway (to fix the Mirror Plan bug) I could also add the namespace into the indexed version of the page title -- which might be a better all around solution. Except that it won't take effect until a page has been re-indexed, i.e., edited or purged.
I'll think about the second one some more, and in the meantime work on a fix for the Mirror Plan bug. --NepheleTalk 12:42, 27 April 2009 (EDT)
OK, turns out I did introduce a bug that's further complicating things: the "UESPWiki" box on the search page is broken. Once I'm done with my eye doctor appointment I'll get fixes posted for this whole set of problems. Unfortunately, it's going to be a pretty broad update, because I've been doing some code reorganization/efficiency improvements over the last week. --NepheleTalk 15:14, 27 April 2009 (EDT)
