SpellsEdit

Anyone know if Vampire Lords can use Destruction/Conjuration/etc spells in addition to their Vampire spells? — Unsigned comment by 71.22.83.197 (talk) on 11 June 2012

-No, Vampire Lord's can only use blood/night magic. — Unsigned comment by 220.236.226.82 (talk) at 10:51 on 7 July 2012
Is Destruction or Conjuration skill raised by casting the Night and Blood magics? Do these skills decrease the spell cost? Has the One-Handed skill any inlfuence on ground fighting damage for the Vampire Lord? Will it increase after striking with the hands? Aran Mafre 23:24, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
no Skills are raised when in Vampire Lord form 89.240.229.39 16:09, 22 August 2013 (GMT)

NPC Vampire LordsEdit

The only NPC I ever saw in Vampire Lord Form is Lord Harkon, but I wonder is there any notion towards the possibility that there are others with the same power? Does Harkons family have it? What about his advisors? Or is the PC really the only other Vampire Lord. — Unsigned comment by 178.190.201.183 (talk) at 21:45 on 2 October 2013‎

Theoretically going by the lore, Serana and Valerica are also Vampire Lords. However neither of them ever transform. It is not clear what the exact status of the other vampires at Castle Volkihar are; none of them disclose the exact method used to make them vampires, but it is strongly implied by Harkon's dialogue that they are also "true" vampires, i.e. Vampire Lords. None of them ever transform either. --Morrolan (talk) 00:26, 3 October 2013 (GMT)

Not just according to him ~Edit

"...only the more pure-blooded vampires such as those of Lord Harkon's court have this ability and, according to him, the family's vampirism was a gift directly from Molag Bal himself."

Serana says it originated from a ceremony with Molag Bal as well. Also she mentions the ceremony was rather degrading, and fun for the whole family. :P

Carry WeightEdit

While in Vampire lord form my carry weight is 1000. Martingolding96 (talk) 12:00, 24 February 2014 (GMT)

vampire hostilityEdit

will NPC attack a vampire lord in regular form — Unsigned comment by 173.224.1.47 (talk) at 19:05 on 15 April 2014

No they shouldn't attack you at all even if you are a stage four vampire with Dawnguard installed, unless the UESP patch or mods messes with the the AI behavior on pc or modded consoles. Wrath425 (talk) 03:43, 16 July 2014 (GMT)

Argonian Vampire Lord GlitchEdit

Does anyone have a fix for disappearing whenever an Argonian character build enters Vampire Lord mode? — Unsigned comment by Darth Exsecratus (talkcontribs) at 01:11 on 26 June 2014 (GMT)

Odd Bats when Within the Black BooksEdit

I noticed the other day that when you use the Vampire Lord form while within the Black Books from the Dragonborn DLC, the bats that surround the player when you enter melee range are a solid white rather than the usual bat color. I haven't had a chance to re-test this to see if it was a one time thing or to see if the "Bats" power is also affected, but if this is consistent, then it may be worth putting in either the "notes" or "bugs" section depending on if someone can look at the game files and see if it is intended as a unique visual effect to go with Hermaeus Mora's realm or just a glitch caused by being there. I intend to replicate it and test it again when I get a chance, however I can't access the game data as I play on the 360. It didn't seem to have any effect on the gameplay at all, so if it is a bug then it's of the purely graphical sort...... Gamer3427 (talk) 01:22, 30 July 2014 (GMT)

I haven't seen this, but it sounds like a fairly common graphics issue. I've seen similar behavior on PCs in areas that have a lot of visible objects. The graphics system doesn't keep up with putting textures on objects so they turn out as simple one color objects or pure white. On a PC you can often fix it by turning down the graphics settings a bit. I don't know if you can do anything like that on an XBOX. Mudeye (talk) 18:37, 27 October 2014 (GMT)

Specifics on what counts and what doesn't for Perk progress when using Vampiric DrainEdit

I've noticed that some undead actually count towards perk progress when killed with Vampiric Drain. Specifically: draugr and other vampires. Dragons do not seem to count for perk progress - or at least you don't get the "Life's Blood absorbed; vampire perk progress increased" message when killing them with it. This is with nothing but the base game, all expansions (DG, DB, and HF), and the unofficial patches for the above. - 74.83.238.53 01:11, 29 January 2015 (GMT)

I've noticed much the same myself. It seems that anything with flesh counts for it, besides dragons of course. Skeletons don't work because there's no getting blood out of raised bones (though occasionally I've gotten one out of a skeleton, seems rare though), but dragur, corpses raised by necromancers before you enter the area (like the ones around and in Ustengrav) and other vampires count, as do the death hounds. 50.53.40.142 22:41, 22 July 2018 (UTC)

Additional uses for Vampiric GripEdit

I don't know if this should be in the notes or not, but Vampiric Grip will work on any enemy that can be ragdolled, up to and including giants. It can be used to inflict moderate fall damage on enemies encountered anywhere outdoors, or in areas with high ceilings. Catch an enemy, aim up, and launch them into the air. The heavier an enemy, the more fall damage they will take, and I've managed to kill giants with just a couple of throws. FrozenWolf150 (talk) 05:07, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

Invisible Vampire Lord FormEdit

Can anyone please help? Every time I change into the vampire lord form I'm invisible. I can see the spell glows in the hands, but the body itself is completely invisible. I see the body just as I change into the vampire lord form, but then it goes invisible for some unknown reason. — Unsigned comment by Darth Exsecratus (talkcontribs) at 02:10 on 13 December 2015

If you're on PC, you might try extracting the contents of Dawnguard.bsa (more precisely, the meshes\actors\vampirelord\ folder) into Skyrim\Data. If you have any mods affecting the vampire lord form, try disabling them first. On all platforms, you could try redownloading Dawnguard -- SarthesArai Talk 11:19, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

Either Or Choice?Edit

I was under the impression that becoming a vampire didn't preclude you joining the Dawnguard but given I've The Bloodstone Chalice rather than A New Order quest am I mistaken? I've been doing a tonne of regular missions and played around a little with the Vampire Lord figuring I could max out the skills then cure myself and rejoin the Dawnguard. Did I mess my character progression up? I'm supposed to be a good guy so playing Vampire Overlord isn't really what I was intending. If becoming a Vampire Lord does preclude you from being Dawnguard then this page really ought to be corrected as it's misleading :-C 118.208.155.2

If you become a Vampire Lord by accepting Harkon's gift, then you've sided with the Volkihar. —Legoless (talk) 16:00, 24 April 2016 (UTC)
It really isn't apparent that it's an allegiance choice. Since I want to play Dawnguard I guess I'll have to see if it's possible to restart the questline somehow. Be useful to add a warning to this page IMHO. 118.208.154.51 03:30, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
How's this? —Legoless (talk) 09:05, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
Cool. I truncated it a bit though as I thought that sounded stronger. 118.208.81.98 04:44, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Lack need for feedingEdit

I've been doing a little research while playing the vampire side of the Dawnguard questline, and it seems that Vampire Lords don't actually need to feed to retain their sanity like normal vampires do. Right after Harkon turns you into a Vampire Lord, while talking about thralls, he says if you need to feed "like baser vampires". That really strongly implies that Vampire Lords don't actually need to feed. Also, both Valerica and Serana lasted thousands of years and completely retained their sanity without feeding. I've added a note about this to the main page. — Unsigned comment by 98.28.225.144 (talk) at 20:03 on 12 June 2016 (UTC)

This is speculation, and would be better suited to lorespace or the forums. I've removed the note. —Legoless (talk) 21:13, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
I'm aware that it's speculation, but given the amount of evidence and the fact that it's implied numerous times throughout the Dawnguard questline, I think there's nothing wrong with stating in the Notes section that it is possible that Vampire Lords don't require feeding. I've seen numerous pages on this wiki that point out a possibility because of evidence suggested during gameplay, and this is no different. — Unsigned comment by 98.28.225.144 (talk) at 22:37 on 12 June 2016 (UTC)
I don't see enough evidence to conclude that. We don't know anything about how vampires go mad from hunger, aside from the fact that a good few have. Why does this not happen to Valerica and Serana? Probably just lazy plot design, but if we're looking for an in-universe explanation it could just as easily be accredited to the fact that they're pure-blooded, which isn't the same as being a vampire lord. There's simply no way of knowing what the factors involved are. Why would Harkon point out the thralls if feeding wasn't something vampire lords did? All we can conclude from this evidence is that "vampires are often driven insane by confinement and lack of blood, although for powerful vampires this is not always the case". A note like that belongs on Lore:Vampire, not this Skyrim article. —Legoless (talk) 22:53, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
Right, there isn't enough evidence to conclude that, but there is enough evidence to justify noting it as a very strong possibility. I wasn't trying to say that ingame evidence means that Vampire Lords not needing to feed is fact; it's a theory. And you have to admit it's a likely one. I only figured it was noteworthy on the main page because it's a possibility that shouldn't be ignored, and a substantial amount of ingame evidence supports the theory. It's sort of like the reason why Sheogorath's Skyrim page states the possibility that he's the Champion of Cyrodiil. Sufficent evidence ingame justifies stating on his page that it's possible that that's who he is. I'll admit that there is less evidence in this case, but I still believe the possibility is too strong to not at least note on the Vampire Lord page that it's a possibility, espically since it's implied during the game to a notable degree. — Unsigned comment by 98.28.225.144 (talk) at 01:35 on 13 June 2016 (UTC)
The Champion of Cyrodiil thing is notable. Speculation about vampire lord feeding habits really isn't, and has nothing to do with the game. —Legoless (talk) 02:07, 13 June 2016 (UTC)

Vampiric Grip works on dragons?Edit

Has anyone else tried it before? (probably have)

Obviously they can't be "gripped" but i could drag one back to the ground when it was trying to fly up.

Can anyone confirm this?NeonRaven94 (talk) 12:26, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

Blood Magic referenced but never definedEdit

Blood magic is referenced several times in the page, but there is no definition or list of spells. The definition and list of blood magic spells should be added.Mudeye (talk) 19:57, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Blood magic isn't anything special, they are just a cosmetic type of spells available. Those spells are the three on the right-hand side of the perks; Vampiric Grip, Summon Gargoyle, and Corpse Curse. As you can see in the description section underneath the image, each of these is prefixed with "Blood Magic", and they are described as Blood Magic in the description for Unearthly Will.
