Requirements to activate?

Got Hearthfire today on a brand new character and I'm wondering if there are any requirements to begin this questline.

Do we have to beat Dawnguard expansion if we have it?
Do we have to get at least at a certain point of the main quest?
Do we have to be known enough ((Thane level)) in at least one major hold?
Do we have to uninstall Dawnguard entirely because the basic unpatched version of Hearthfire might be glitchy and won't work while Dawnguard is installed?

I have visited Falkreath, Dawnstar, and Morthal and still havn't met this courier to begin this quest line and spoken with the stewards not one has any new options. I have the money for the base 5,000 cost but I'm not sure what we have to do in order to start the Hearthfire and ultimatley getting what looks like a great house/cross with Oblivion's Warrior Stronghold.--67.185.108.121 13:19, 4 September 2012 (EDT)

You need to be thane to purchase the plot of land, but you will get a letter from a Jarl to come to the Hold anyway. The Silencer (talk) 13:21, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
Thank you unfortunatly Sigdeir is broken and isn't opening up for Thane quests and I have no idea why.--67.185.108.121 15:43, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
As far as I know the reason Siggdeir doesn't give quests and calls you a miserable wretch is as part of the Dark Brotherhood quests you kill his male advisor and somehow he knows it was you, therefore he doesn't like you. He also doesn't give anymore radient quests and the ones the steward gives you don't seem to help. The Source (talk) 18:20, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
I havn't even started the dark brotherhood quest line on this character and his advisor is still alive. Also after turning in the kill vampire quest in Morthal, helping the people is stuck at 2/3 and won't increase. I gave Lami Song of Alchemists and wood to the Vampire Chick's Thrall so it should of been at least 3/3 not stuck at 2/3. I'm going to remove Hearthfire and see if this fixes these glitches.--67.185.108.121 18:23, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
Slightly dis-heartening update- I loaded a much older and less advanced saved game from my first character in the hope I'd not killed Halverd and therefore not made Siggdeir hate me yet. Unfortunately it seems I had killed Halverd in that game but strangely Siggdeir spoke to me much more politely and WAS willing to allow me to buy the land and therefore the house via the steward although he had no more dialogue options than my borked game. I've tried doing many more Falkreath radient quets from around the town and re-checking with Siggdier but nothing has changed yet.The Source (talk) 19:31, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
I have never ever killed Halverd. I'm wondering if I actually have to do up to Diplomatic Immunity and talking to Delphine again to address getting in to the Embassy. Basically complete up to Kynes Grove of the Main quest and then check with Siggdeir. He almost always opened up with judging me and then having me get the whine for him. I'm not exactly sure why he's not being his usualy judgmental mean self but if he doesn't give me what I want ((thane stuff)) soon I'm going to uninstall Dawnguard and see if that's causing the glitching with all minor hold thane tasks but I doubt it.--67.185.108.121 21:06, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
I'm having the problem where Siggdeir doesn't have any options to buy land, and I've completed all quests imaginable in Skyrim and Dawnguard. My journal entries literally only has radiant quests in it and nothing more. I was able to buy property from Dawnstar and Morthal with no problems. 68.227.51.216 22:16, 4 September 2012 (EDT)

() I uninstalled Hearthfire and I'm tempted to uninstall Dawnguard or at least remove the hardrive which it's saved on. I have never had this problem before and I don't want to rely on killing the bodyguard. I'm going to see if it's one of the expansions or if it's one of the patches.--67.185.108.121 00:56, 5 September 2012 (EDT)

Try asking the Jarl of Falkreath if there is any work to be done, he should ask for some mead and then ask you to take care of some bandits. After killing the bandits he should say you can now buy land or at least he did for me and I had only helped out one person in falkreath. — Unsigned comment by 70.36.223.250 (talk) at 05:39 on 5 September 2012‎
He doesn't have that option only that he's young for a jarl and how did he get to be a jarl.--67.185.108.121 14:33, 5 September 2012 (EDT) **UPDATE* I uninstalled Dawnguard and the Jarl is fixed! I did have to make sure I save before meeting him for the first time and load back to it when he was broken but it took uninstalling Dawnguard for him to work!!!
Is uninstalling Dawnguard going to mess with current saves involving Dawnguard quests? 68.227.51.216 17:26, 5 September 2012 (EDT)
It is but unless you do so you will be unable to get thane quest or land from jarl of falkreath, and now I learned Dawnstar and there seems to be issues with Morthal yet with Morthal the thane quests are given but the counter for helping 3 people doesn't tick correctly. Uninstalling Dawnguard seems to fix these issues.--67.185.108.121 22:51, 5 September 2012 (EDT)
i have a similar problem, but it is skald that wont let me buy land — Unsigned comment by 71.161.122.219 (talk) at 15:59 on 6 September 2012‎
I have found a possible solution to the Falkreath dialogue issue. I was having the same trouble with Sidgeir in which the dialogue option was simply not there. I had not yet received the Black Briar Mead request from him, which was essentially the problem as I had another RARE GIFT quest active. Once I went and got an amulet of Arkay, delivered it to Torbjorn Shattershield in Windhelm and then I travelled to Falkreath and the dialogue with Sidgeir appeared. On the other elder scrolls wiki these quests are listed as rare gift quests. Apparently only one of the Radiant quests can be active at a time. I will list them below NPC and item
Captain Aldis, The Mirror
Lami, Song of the Alchemist
Rustleif, Night Falls on Sentinel
Torbjorn Shattershield, Amulet of Arkay
Ysolda, Mammoth Tusk
And of course the final is the Black Briar Mead quest for the Falkreath Jarl. Bottom line: if you have any of the above quests active you will need to complete it before you can activate the necessary requirements to purchase the property in Falkreath. Hope this helps. Credit must be given to [1] 4meridia7 (talk) 22:41, 10 September 2012 (EDT)

() What if one of these quests is failed? Lami was killed either by a vampire or a dragon (I can't remember) before I could get the book to her and the quest failed. Deanmakoma (talk) 05:57, 11 September 2012 (EDT)deanmakoma

This question might be better fit for the Rare Gifts quest page. — ABCface 10:05, 11 September 2012 (EDT)
I'm not sure what would happen if Lami would die. My assumption would be that if the quest is still in your active list then you might have some trouble although I have no way of verifying that. All I know is that this was the fix that worked for me. I never would have figured it out on my own. @alphabetface: yes this might be appropriate for the RARE GIFTS page but I also think it needs mentioned here as it can potentially cause trouble for people who want to buy property in Falkreath. Probably also appropriate for the Falkreath Thane quest. Thanks 4meridia7 (talk) 13:22, 11 September 2012 (EDT)
The rare gifts could very well been an option save for one thing, I didn't have a single rare gift quest in my log at the time. I uninstalled Dawnguard and the Jarls worked like they should. It only seems to affect the Jarls and "help people stats" of the holds with the hearthfire houses.--67.185.108.121 00:40, 12 September 2012 (GMT)
Selling wood at the mill northwest of Falkreth unglitched my stuck 2/3 counter. Selling to farmers may also work, though I havn't tested it myself. There is also a rumor involving dropping armor in front of citizens and letting them have it if they ask, but again I havn't personally tested this. — Unsigned comment by 24.243.16.207 (talk) at 03:40 on 4 October 2012‎

Pets?

It said we could allow the adopted children to have pets? What kind of pets and how do we get them? — Unsigned comment by 74.45.39.186 (talk) at 20:01 on 4 September 2012‎

Have not confirmed myself yet (I'm still at adoption phase), but I am seeing reports that a) you can bring in a dog such as Meeko or Bran that the child will accept; and b) that a child will bring in a random potential pet (e.g., mudcrab, skeever, fox, rabbit) that you can accept or decline. Also, for the latter fast travelling back to the kid at home may give you a different random animal choice. Further, the child will name the random animal.Lottery Discountz (talk) 09:33, 5 September 2012 (EDT)
My character's daughter just brought a fox back and asked to keep it so I'm guessing that's how it works. I'll try it out with Meeko and see what happens. Edit: I brought Meeko to the house but there was no option with either daughter to let them keep him. Not sure how to do it... AyaHawkeye (talk) 16:56, 5 September 2012 (EDT)
Was there no dialog with Meeko cause you already had a fox as a pet?? Anyone try the death hounds from dawngaurd yet? — Unsigned comment by 74.45.39.186 (talk) at 22:02 on 6 September 2012‎
I had 2 daughters, only one had a pet fox. The other one came up to my character later and asked if she could keep Meeko so it's obviously the child who has to initiate the conversation, not your character. Maybe it's one pet per child? AyaHawkeye (talk) 21:39, 7 September 2012 (EDT)
I adopted Lucia and Runa. I brought Meeko home and Lucia asked if we could keep him, which we did. A little while later I came back home and Lucia told me she made a "new friend" and asked if we could keep her rabbit. (Yes, she has a bunny following her around) So far, Runa has yet to get interested in a pet. — Unsigned comment by Magskall (talkcontribs) at 22:29 on 10 September 2012‎

Game Freezing Bug

I'm running into multiple game freezes in my Lakeview manor. Some details: Xbox 360, 320gb HD, game installed to HD, have not cleared cache or reinstalled game (waiting for other possible workarounds, as on limited bandwidth internet and reinstalling each patch for the games I play regularly can get expensive). I've bought the armory (two mannequins equipped), trophy room, and greenhouse, and have all house furniture except wall-mounted animals. The game doesn't freeze when I enter the house, or with any particular action, but it just does 'eventually', often before I can exit again. I.E. I can't stand in my home for more than a minute or two, usually. A dozen solid freezes within a few hours, all inside my home. Even loaded earlier saves, still happening.Ruze84 (talk) 19:13, 5 September 2012 (EDT)

I'm reading reports on other sites that the major freezing bugs in Falkreath and Morthal may be related to one of two things: Having a greenhouse installed (possibly the additional light sources generated by the large planters) or the number of people in the house, after you take into account housecarls, kids, wives, etc.
From personal testing, my game is freezing near dark, with all occupants in the house as well as the greenhouse installed. Earlier saves exist before adding greenhouse or bringing wife into home. Will test more later.Ruze84 (talk) 13:19, 6 September 2012 (EDT)
It seems as if the collection of NPC's in the house, specifically concerning followers, is being traced as a major cause of this bug. Dismissing followers before entering the house might be a solution. Details and testing are showing that it's almost always when the follower crosses the door from the entry to the main hall, though this isn't 100%.Ruze84 (talk) 15:25, 7 September 2012 (EDT)
Yes Ruze I agree it's the follower. When I had my follower wait at the door after entering the house, then it didn't crash. --Darkgoob (talk) 19:24, 20 September 2012 (GMT)
I'm getting the same thing, but it is happening outside of my house. Extreme lag, stutters, etc; I've reloaded saves, started new ones, deleted old ones, waited, and so much more but nothing is helping. Also, I do NOT have the greenhouse installed. Instead I have the Armory, Trophy Room, and Enchanting Tower; all of them are fully furnished save a few mounted heads. — Unsigned comment by 67.142.163.24 (talk) at 00:49 on 9 September 2012‎
A possible solution to the freeze inside the Lakeview Manor may have been found by wdm12 on gamefaqs: use the drafting table to remove the workbenches inside the house. This cured the freezing issues for me. — Unsigned comment by MEnTL32 (talkcontribs) at 02:54 on 9 September 2012‎
Let me test this to confirm as at the moment my Lakeview file is unplayable. Any save of it I load since having it freeze the first time has a repeat if I enter Lakeview. I've got Greenhouse, Kitchen, Storage and Cellar. Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 01:13, 9 September 2012 (EDT)
Okay so tested both clearing the cache and removing the workbenchs and neither fixed the problem. I actually am now freezing a few seconds after loading in no matter if I'm at Lakeview or not. Game ender it seems! Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 01:21, 9 September 2012 (EDT)
Okay so after trying one more time I did get it to work. You have to make sure the workbenches are removed, since it doesn't always seem to register you telling it to remove them the first time. Make sure the option at the drafting table changes. Once the workbenches are gone and the cache is cleared it does indeed seem to fix the freezeups. Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 01:33, 9 September 2012 (EDT)

() One possible way to fix the freezing issue is to delete your workbenches in your house. Then using 1 room at a time. It works — Unsigned comment by 98.236.47.50 (talk) at 06:24 on 10 September 2012‎

My freeze issue eventually came back after removing all the workbenches. I fixed it by sending my family to live in another home. — Unsigned comment by MEnTL32 (talkcontribs) at 05:28 on 12 September 2012‎
I've tried everything but clearing the Cache (i'm in the xbox beta and can't find it yet.) i have dismissed Lydia, removed my workbenches, and entered lakeview during the day. all i have in there is Rayya, my housecarl and steward, and lucia, my daughter... and her pet fox... how vital is clearing the cache for this?--Wolf Redbeard (talk) 05:16, 14 September 2012 (GMT)
clearing the cache seems to help when done on conjunction with the other steps. If you need to clear the cache and can't do it through the dashboard you can do it the old way by holding down the A button from the moment the console starts until you see the Bethesda logo. That also resets the graphics caches and a couple other hidden temp folders. Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 15:58, 16 September 2012 (GMT)

In response to previous post. I had the same issue and eventually signed into the only account that has a Xbox live. When starting the game it asked for an update and a short loading screen. Hope this helps.65.41.50.1 12:33, 16 October 2012 (GMT)

Missing Steward Uthgerd the untamed(I believe that's her name)

I got her to be my Steward, after a lot of renovations to my house she started walking towards the door, I was all "Wtf?" so I went outside after her, gone. Waited ingame for days, checked that bar she's in, checked her house. She's wiped off the face of Skyrim. — Unsigned comment by 142.68.73.39 (talk) at 09:05 on 6 September 2012

I have this too! I made Lydia my Steward of Windstad and both she and Valdimar poofed into nothingness. I tried all sorts of different ways to make them come back (resting, sleeping, leaving and coming back) but nothing worked. Then I popped into the Winstad and it was under bandit attack. Valdimar appeared and helped saved the day. He's back to normal again but Lydia is still gone.Akey (talk) 19:01, 13 September 2012 (GMT)
I also had Lydia as my steward and she disappeared, but on a lark I checked Breezehome and she had moved back in there. Had her follow me back to Heljarchen, dismissed her while inside and she went back to being my steward. She must have needed a vacation. Rouxez (talk) 18:07, 19 September 2012 (GMT)

Gifts?

I'm wondering if anyone knows the full lists of Gifts that can be given an adopted Orphan? The vast assortment of food-items and clothing aside, I've only found two available 'toys', the Toy Sword and the Child's Doll. I've also found that they will accept daggers as a gift, which they will use to practice on the straw dummies instead of the wooden swords. What I'm really curious about is if any sort of bow can be given to them, given all the archery targets one can make around their home.--Grieves (talk) 20:41, 6 September 2012 (EDT)

I had all varieties of bows in my inventory because I wanted to find out this same thing. But, unfortunately I was not able to gift a bow to my child. I found some types of sweets that you are able to gift your children though, some of which are: Long Taffy Treat, Honey Nut Treat, and Boiled Creme Treat. KunvuloninKünvülänin 15:43, 7 September 2012 (EDT)
The only bows in the game would be too big for a child to wield. The Wooden Sword, the Child's Doll, child's clothing, sweet treats, and daggers of any kind seem to be the only things you can give a child. --DaedalusMachina (talk) 21:09, 7 September 2012 (EDT)
You can also give them apples, if you want a healthier alternative for your virtual children Deanmakoma (talk) 18:42, 8 September 2012 (EDT)deanmakoma

() books are also an option Katiebugg (talk) 23:34, 9 September 2012 (EDT)

Yar, I've seen no evidence that books are an option myself, unless there's a very select few books that are viable.. in which case, could they be listed? --Grieves (talk) 11:17, 13 September 2012 (GMT)

As far as I can tell, any dagger, no matter the type, is giftable. Were you able to see them use it? I was able to watch them beat on the practice dummy in the basement, but all I gave them was an iron dagger, and later a wooden sword. I think it would be cool to give them an enchanted glowing dagger and watch them wield that. :) Runa is a beast! ~FiveCentFather (Ken N.) (talk) 17:02, 20 September 2012 (GMT)
confirmed that Books are indeed giftable, but only very specific volumes. The Yellow Book of Riddles is indeed among them, as well as A Children's Anuad. That's all I've personally confirmed so far. As far as I can tell so far, there is no 'reading' animation. --Grieves (talk) 22:01, 28 September 2012 (GMT)
If you have a bookshelf it's possible for them to stand in front of it and "read". But even if you don't give them any books, they still do that occationally. Fireanddream (talk) 20:53, 6 October 2012 (GMT)

Items that should replenish that aren't?

Is the butter churn supposed to be able to churn milk into butter, or provide butter on a regular basis? I haven't been able to use it at all since I first collected it, and I don't see the point of having a cow and a butter churn if it cannot be used. The apiary has not replenished either and I am not sure if it is supposed to or not. The same thing goes for the hawk's nest, chicken's egg, as well as the mead barrels. Has anybody else encountered this? Is this a glitch or just not possible? --174.112.217.1 22:37, 7 September 2012 (EDT)

Yup, been waiting many days and months (in game) for my churn to have more butter in it, but nope. I want to make more Jazbay and Snowberry Crostatas! I too find it pointless to have a cow that you can't milk to fill up empty Jugs (that's how I thought it was going to work in the first place) or use to churn into butter. Guess it's not that realistic after all. — KunvuloninKünvülänin 22:48, 7 September 2012 (EDT)
I got to add: 3 chickens but only one egg? --174.112.217.1 22:52, 7 September 2012 (EDT)
I had mentioned this in the Hearthfire Items discussion thread, but you can actually buy Butter and Sack of Flour from Food vendors, Innkeepers stand a higher chance of having them in the food though it's usually 1 each. My churns still havn't reset, both of them, yet another individual said his reset for him but he mentioned having the kitchen furnished by his steward. I waisted the 1,500 gold it took for this and my churn didn't reset on me.--67.185.108.121 01:42, 8 September 2012 (EDT)
I will also confirm that these items do not replenish: chicken nest (also have one nest, three birds), butter churn and mead barrels. I don't have an apiary, so can't speak to how that should work. The fish hatchery seems to work great, though. Haven't seen any other items (ingredients, food) that I have collected from my house respawn, either. ~FiveCentFather (Ken N.) (talk) 02:18, 12 September 2012 (GMT)

() Some things do respawn, the food on the table in the original house respawns, as does garlic in the greenhouse, yet the hanging moss did not. I've only taken a few things because I don't want to leave the house bare. The goat hide in the Armory room also respawns. Not sure of the timimg, but when you enter the house and the inside doors are closed, things seem to reappear. Deanmakoma (talk) 02:14, 30 September 2012 (GMT)deanmakoma

New Glitch, 'Invisible Shadow Follower' ?

Alright I'm unsure if this is a Hearthfire Glitch or a Glitch that presented itself with both Dawnguard and Hearthfire installed but I just noticed it today.

I have my current character in 3rd person view with the camera zoomed out to the max. While escorting Serana to the castle, I used the boat in Dawnguard to speed things up. While running along the beach near the waters edge I noticed something strange. I noticed the water moving, as if you were playing Oblivion and had 100% Cameleon + Water Walking and clicked to third person to watch you run along the water with the ripples. Well it's the same thing here only this water is about 6-8 feet away from me. Whenever I move forward or back this ripple follows me. At first I thought it was Serena swimming, but that princess sticks to land as much as possible and I saw her following behind me on land. It does this to me while I'm at the Castle as well. I'm not sure what's causing it but If I enter the water I make two ripple effects instead of one.--67.185.108.121 22:45, 8 September 2012 (EDT)

An update to this, I turned off my counsel, let it cool down, loaded up the counsel and cleared out the cache of both the hardrive and the external memory then reloaded my game and now the Invisible Shadow Follower on the water is no longer following me.--67.185.108.121 23:25, 8 September 2012 (EDT)
I can confirm that I had the same glitch, and before I installed Hearthfire. Therefore I do not believe this bug is related to Hearthfire. (as a sidenote, I did experience the glitch after installing Dawnguard, and specifically with Serana in tow, which tallies with the above). Threepwood87 (talk) 22:59, 9 September 2012 (EDT)
Maybe it's Dawnguard then? So many glitches with it. --67.185.108.121 01:17, 10 September 2012 (EDT)

Well, I do know that children's beds will always show up as owned, even if you haven't got children living there. Pretty sure it's scripted to the item. Not sure about the adoption side of the problem though, have you added the children's chests as well? I thing they're needed for adoption too. AyaHawkeye (talk) 18:58, 25 September 2012 (GMT)
I had this problem too, make sure to remove the workbench from the room or else the game will think the room isn't finished. Stupid I know, but I removed it and it fixed everything. — Unsigned comment by 74.69.184.116 (talk) at 08:35 on 29 September 2012‎
I actually think that make senses because children's beds are always ready for children, and our adult characters shouldn't be able to sleep on them. I got two "owned" children beds too, but whether or not I remove the workbench, children sleep normally on those two bed. So they are probably set as owned on purposed. New Characters Bug

I've hit a snag where I apparently can't start new characters. When Alduin attacks, he just behaves like a normal dragon instead of following the special script, so I'm stuck crouched on the executioner's block with no way to progress. (Curmudgeon (talk) 00:36, 10 September 2012 (EDT))

I had this issue too. I emailed Betheseda about it and they said to clear your Xbox 360 cache under the settings, storage, HDD. They also suggested deleting the save (if you're working from the save just before character creation). Deleting the cache worked for me.Akey (talk) 18:38, 13 September 2012 (GMT)
I'm working from a save just after character creation that I had before installing DG and HF (which are installed now) and the unbinding scenario played out as intended. I believe this lends much credence to what Akey has shared with us. Skysword (talk) 19:57, 29 September 2012 (GMT)

Can't get Salmon Meat from Salmon

I'm unsure of why this is happening, have both Dawnguard and Hearthfire installed right now. I have done this both before and after a clear system cache, but for some reason whenever I try to capture swimming salmon either in sea, lake, or my fishery I get no meat or anything from them. But if I fish them from the rivers while they are swimming I get some meat. Same with the jumping fish swimming upstream. Just not when they are in lakes or in the ocean or in the fishery.--67.185.108.121 01:16, 10 September 2012 (EDT)

I'm also not getting any meat from salmon in my fishery, while I was able to out in the world. I can't confirm the specific locations mentioned above, though. Annoying to have a fishery, but not get any meat from it. It's a minor annoyance compared to some others, though. ~FiveCentFather (Ken N.) (talk) 00:54, 17 September 2012 (GMT)

Keep a Death Hound in House

Just curious if, rather than keeping a pet dog in your house, you could keep one of the Death Hounds from Dawnguard? — Unsigned comment by 203.129.49.85 (talk) at 08:13 on 10 September 2012‎

You would need to have the Death Hound follow you like any other dog would, so I doubt it. 173.74.58.197 20:52, 10 September 2012 (EDT)
Actually, after looking at the followers page, the Death Hounds are listed there, so maybe. I still think it's unlikely, but it's not impossible. I'd check myself, but I chose the Dawnguard, and already had Bran become the pet anyway. 173.74.58.197 21:07, 10 September 2012 (EDT)

Mikeyy, I think you can only have a pet if you have adopted a child; I could be wrong, but I know for other pets (such as wild animals) it's in dialogue options with your children that you can keep them. — ABCface 19:57, 17 September 2012 (GMT)

Still having issues "Steward/Jarl at Falkreath doesn't sell land to some players."

Okay I have read the original post on this issue. At this stage of my game all these quests have been completed and were completed prior to installing Dawnstar. Apiary and Chicken Nests

Does anyone know if these respawn? Specifically the apiary, do I need to leave bees and honeycomb in there to get more??? — Unsigned comment by 94.173.8.140 (talk) at 16:23 on 11 September 2012‎

Not sure about the Apiary since I don't have one, but it's been many in game months, and my chicken nest has not re-spawned with new chicken eggs. — KunvuloninKünvülänin 16:39, 11 September 2012 (EDT)
The Apiary doesn't respawn nor does the Chicken Nest, though they should. Other things that don't respawn that should:
  • The Clams in the Fishery ((Apparently they don't respawn in the world either))
  • The Churn for butter
  • The Hawk nest on the Alchemy Tower
  • Vegetables and Wheat on an NPC farmland
  • Giants and Mammoths in camps ((usually if you have cleared out a camp they sometimes won't respawn))
Meh.--67.185.108.121 00:45, 12 September 2012 (GMT)
My apiary respawned the 5 bees and 1 honeycomb after about a month and a half of in-game. I never once visited the house and when I did return, I was tipped off by the fact that all the doors inside were closed. Checked the apiary and bingo. I cannot confirm the exact amount of time, but it did. I am currently keeping an eye on both the apiary and chicken's nest, with no results as off yet. --174.112.217.1 16:37, 12 September 2012 (GMT)
Well after waiting a month or close to it I found that the following things have respawned for me:
  • Chicken Nest
  • Apiary
  • The feathers around the hawk nest but not the egg
  • The clams in the fishery
  • The Churn!
--67.185.108.121 22:09, 16 September 2012 (GMT)
So I take this to mean that Bethesda expects us to visit our houses only once a month of game time? That seems pretty silly. I visit my house after nearly every quest I go on, and they usually only take a day or two. I'm assuming that since visiting it resets the timer, that I will NEVER have anything respawn in my house. Is this a correct assumption? ~FiveCentFather (Ken N.) (talk) 01:00, 17 September 2012 (GMT)
I'm assuming this is why they gave us 3 houses instead of just one, so we visit each one once a month :/ the timer is too long. However this seems to only affect the items above ((the timer for the greenhouse and for the gardens is alot quicker like 2-3 days or so)) However all the other containers are safe such as where I put my stuff or my sack near the small alchemy station with thousands of septims worth of ingredients. The timer needs to be sooner and even so it appears as though the churn can glitch, so even if you wait for a month ((too long in my opinion)) it may or may not give you any butter. Which is rather ridiculous. Not sure on the egg in the hawk's nest though.--67.185.108.121 02:31, 17 September 2012 (GMT)

() As far as I can tell, visiting the house does not reset the timer for the respawn. There are still a few bugs to work out. Thankfully, many users in the modding community write bug fixes. This doesn't help those who play on the 360 and PS3, unfortunately. --ThatNateGuy (talk) 15:50, 3 October 2012 (GMT)

Everything in the house outside of containers will respawn after being absent for 10 days, butter churn, apiary, local ore veins and fish hatchery all respawn after 10 days as well. The chicken nests usually respawn, Heljarchen Hall sometimes does not in my game (Xbox 360), if you lost your chickens they will respawn as well. The hawk nest on the roof sometimes respawn, but might have different eggs, if it had feathers they will respawn. Visiting the house will reset the timer, you have to be absent for the full 10 days. -aussie500 — Unsigned comment by 58.169.148.24 (talk) at 10:51 on 17 October 2012‎

Just discovered this interesting bug after installing Heartfire and playing the game on an existing file. None of the characters available for marriage seem to respond to me wearing the amulet of Mara even though I've completed their objective. I also have Dawnguard installed on this file as well, but I doubt that has anything to do with it as this wasn't an issue before Hearthfire. Bug found and fixed: Pet under house

At one point, the family pet (a fox) was nowhere to be seen in my house, until I cast detect life from outside and noticed it seemed to be under my house. Using the wooden bowl glitch, I went under the house and found the fox. At first, I just fus'ed it out of the perimeter of the house, but when I went back inside the house, it didn't follow me. In fact, when I went back outside, it was under the house again. In order to fix the bug, you have to fus the pet out of the house and be sure to cast Animal Allegience on it before going straight into your house. Thanks for the pictures - looks great. Having seen your pictures though I realise I have a bug... I have the wraparound patio but you have to hurdle a fence between the armory terrace and the storage room terrace as they don't join up. NPC's are as surprised at this as I was as both my steward and wife walk into the fence between the storage room terrace and armory terrace clearly expecting it not to be there. Until I saw your pictures I thought this was by design rather than a bug and it's too long ago for it to be worthwhile reloading an earlier save. annoying. No one told me...

No one told me I was going to need that much iron, but the bonus to this is that my smithing skill was raised by a few levels before I even got all of the walls up. (New Toon, Low Smithing) Perhaps this could be noted on the page so players know that they can build and level smithing at the same time? --FubarFrank (talk) 23:33, 14 September 2012 (GMT)

I don't think anyone had any idea how much iron one would need for just one house. Before Hearthfire, Iron was worthless to me save for making daggers and lvl'ing up smithing or turning the ore to gold. Now, after Hearthfire, dear gosh Iron is worth to me than ebony for the moment.--67.185.108.121 03:36, 15 September 2012 (GMT)
I can agree with this. If you look at it, making nails and such are better for leveling smithing earlier than iron daggers due to them adding up to the same value (1 gold each with a group of 10 being made each time) but with one less material (no leather strip needed) and weighing far less than a dagger allowing you to carry more. The hinges, iron fittings, and locks don't really seem worth it as much though due hinges and fittings being worth less per item produced since they are worth 4 and only one is made at a time. Locks may be worth it depending on whether you think corundum is easier to find than leather (most likely not due to animals being literally everywhere) though they are the same value as iron daggers and weigh one quarter of the weight of an iron dagger. This really should be added to the exp farming of the smithing page. WolfMaster91 (talk) 15:44, 16 September 2012 (GMT)

The only other thing that I can suggest is to turn up the brightness in the menu. If it is only in the cellar that it is happening than let me just say that cellars are usually kind of dark anyway and maybe Bethesda wanted it that way.--FubarFrank (talk) 17:47, 15 September 2012 (GMT)
I was forced to turn up the gamma all the way on my 360 because of the dingyness of the basement. Otherwise, I couldnt tell a barrel from a chest in that corner area to the right of the safes next to the smelter. I was really wishing I could mount torches or light lanterns and stick one in that corner. There is actually a lantern there (nearly impossible to see), but it's not much help if you can't light it. Just tweaking the whole basement up a couple light levels really couldn't hurt. ~FiveCentFather (Ken N.) (talk) 22:07, 18 September 2012 (GMT)
While experimenting, I found one way to increase lighting in your home: Drop a torch within your house or cellar and then exit (via any door that causes a loading screen). Upon re-entering your house or cellar, you will find that the torch is now aflame and casting a remarkably warm glow around it. You will also be able to move this torch around and place it without fear of the torch teleporting back to where it was originally dropped in the first place if you leave your home or cellar and re-enter (as long as you don't ever add the torch back into your inventory, that is). Most people will find it hard to get the torch to sit in a position that does not appear like the torch should be setting something ablaze (the torch is top-heavy and will tend to just flop its burning head on whatever its allowed to rest on). To encourage "willing suspension of disbelief", I suggest that one places this torch in a fireproof container such as a kettle (to explain why the house isn't being set on fire) and perhaps even filling the kettle with fire salts (to help explain this everlasting smokeless fire). One can even top their "torch kettle" with a centurion dynamo core to create a warmly lit and visually alluring area. I'd imagine that there happens to be some object (which isn't normally prone to bursting into flames) out there which allows one to properly mount a torch upright, yet I've not discovered it yet and the kettle works for now. Display Cases not safe?

I have lost items from both the display case by the double bed in the bedroom wing and the display case in the twin beds side of the upstairs part of the great hall so am starting to believe that display cases may not be safe. Weirdly in each case I have a save file just after putting the item in the case yet despite the save file image showing the item in the case even when I reload those save files the items are still missing. Anyone else had a similar experience... I suggest not putting rare or important items in display cases, I've now lost Savos Aren's amulet :( Paul. --176.251.21.177 13:23, 17 September 2012 (GMT)

While I haven't had items in cases completely disappear, I have had them shift around and even end up BEHIND the case, nearly hidden from view (had to stand on the case to grab it). Seems the positioning of items in cases is not very accurate and depending how they materialize, they may "pop" out of the case. This seems to continue/progress with each visit to the house. People should check their cases fairly often to ensure the items have not "wandered" to a nearby location. ~FiveCentFather (Ken N.) (talk) 16:36, 17 September 2012 (GMT)
Update - Having read FiveCentFather's post I've had a search and he is correct. in both cases I have found the items some distance away across the rooms, it just took a little while because in each instance they are small (amulets) and thus easy to miss. Paul --176.251.21.177 17:58, 17 September 2012 (GMT)
One of the most unfortunate differences between Skyrim an Oblivion/Morrowind is that placed items next to never stay in the exact position you placed them in, and placing items is a far more frustrating process as the point at which you 'grab' the item, and the way you move it while trying to place it, no longer have any real bearing on the physics of seeing it placed in the position you want it. The display case 'glitch' is just an example of this, with items placed either dropping through the case as your house re-loads, or being spawned in your entry hall even if you placed your items in an entirely different room. I learned this the hard way trying to fill one of the display cases with 'treasure', I.E all my flawless gems. After about eight minutes spent placing the gems individually, I walked back in to fin them all laying on the floor. Booo. — Unsigned comment by Grieves (talkcontribs) at 10:15 on 19 September 2012‎
Totally agree. The item grab and placement subsystem was designed and implemented extremely poorly. The odd grab placements (bottom) coupled with the completely unrealistic physics of items makes decorating your house at best a tedious chore and at worst, a frustrating impossibility. Let us hope that Bethesda notes these shortcomings and this system is given a complete redesign and rewrite for the next game, as I highly doubt any "update" will fix these issues.~FiveCentFather (Ken N.) (talk) 13:12, 19 September 2012 (GMT)
To place items within your home without fear of them teleporting around, simply drop the items within your home and then exit your home via any door that prompts the loading screen (the cellar door is the most convenient for this due to a fast load time). Then simply re-enter your home and head back to where you dropped your items which will still be where you left them but they can now be reliably moved and counted on to stay put. If you hadn't exited and re-entered before moving these items where you wanted them, you would have found that the placed items will have teleported back to where you had dropped them in the first place. It is paramount that these items are never placed back into the player's inventory if they are to retain their ability to stay put (re-doing the whole process will cause the items to once again reliably stay put).
As for placing items, there are reliable techniques to get various objects to do what you want. I'd have to make a video about it to successfully convey the skills yet it can be done quite well. In fact, my house is filled with decorative touches. When you walk into the main hall, you're greeted with a perfectly set table showcasing four things evenly spaced along the centerline of the table: An inviting bowl of apples, an apple pie, an ieder cheese wheel with two slices placed neatly on top, and a perfectly upright bottle of argonian bloodwine. Under the staircase to your left you'll find a well lit and tidy serving table (with no chest or other clutter, just the table) with three mugs next to three bottles of nord mead along with a small wooden keg next to a barrel with a nice jug placed on top. Under the staircase to your right, you'll notice that nothing was added to that area from the workbench (no chest, no low table, no untidy sacks, etc.) but instead it's been converted into a pantry filled with things such as a jug of milk and a plethora of neatly placed baskets of various sizes and shapes that are filled to the brim. Each one filled with either tomatoes, potatoes, cabbages, or a gourd. The hearth has things such as rabbit haunches on a plate, a pot full of potatoes, a wooden ladle, and a nice jug that all look warm due to the proximity to the fire. There is so much neatly placed and visually enticing food in my main hall that one barely notices that the astute father of the house chose a library for his kids instead of a kitchen that would have merely been redundant in terms of keeping a well fed family. Anyways, I hope this helps. Skysword (talk) 19:09, 27 September 2012 (GMT)
I'm personally far more interested in the specifics of your placement technique than I am in what you've done with it. For most of us just getting a flat-based object to stand up straight is murder. --Grieves (talk) 19:42, 29 September 2012 (GMT)

Enchanting Weapon Plaque ate Mehrune's Razor

So, I put the Razor on the weapon plaque across from the alter in my enchanting tower, and when i reloaded the cell, it was gone, not on the floor, or floating in the air like Grimsever's done a few times in my bedroom, but it's just gone. To note, maybe related, when i placed the Razor on the plaque in the first place, my tower wasn't fully furnished, then i payed my steward to furnish it. Could it be a problem with the plaque somehow reloading? Dagon's none too happy with my failure. :( -- Mikeyy (talk) 18:35, 17 September 2012 (GMT)

I had a similar issue with a different plaque, the one in the basement next to ladder "ate" my Shield of Solitude. Steward Furnishing Options

Based on my observations I'd like to propose that maybe there is a reason why stewards may not furnish (or may not appear to do so) a room. I think it may be based on how much furniture you had already built in the room you told them to furnish. My entrance way was bare and was furnished immediately. My storage room was pretty much all the way built and here is what happened: I went to the Soul Cairn to go get Valerica and tell her Harkon was dead. I walked all the way to Castle Volkihar on foot from the Falkreath house in order to discover more locations on my latest file, get more dragon souls, etc. So this definitely took a few game days, especially considering I got a little side tracked. Then when I walked all the way back home after all of this and went into my storage room there was a mannequin and a chest that weren't there before. So maybe the more you already have built, the longer it takes for your steward to furnish the room? Though I really don't know if the time only counted when I was away or not as I asked my steward to furnish the storage about a month ago in game. WolfMaster91 (talk) 13:59, 21 September 2012 (GMT)

Yeah, that's pretty much happened to me. Every time I come back to the house there is something added in. Maybe they're trying to be "realistic" with it and adding in each piece at a time. I'm also fairly certain you have to be away from the house for things to be added. It doesn't work if you stay there. Maybe just a little patience is required for this option :) AyaHawkeye (talk) 19:14, 25 September 2012 (GMT)

I can only adopt one child

I have one child already in Hearthfire it's the little boy from Dawnstar. I've tried adopting the girl from Whiterun however the option of adopting her hasn't come up. I also tried in the orphanage in Riften however I'm told already have children.

I have Lakehouse Manor and another in Dawnstar and they both have bedroom wings, both with a double bed, two children's beds (both say owned), two children's chests and two children's wardrobes. One house has a housecarl (Lydia) and the other one doesn't. So why can't I have two children?

I'm also married to Farkas and playing as a dark elf. — Unsigned comment by 94.174.223.71 (talk) at 01:43 on 2 October 2012‎

When you tried to adopt Lucia in Whiterun, did you give her a gold coin first? I don't know if this is a prerequisite to adopting her or not, but I didn't get the dialogue option to adopt her until after doing so. I gave her one gold piece, then asked why she was begging. After listening to her story, I had the option to offer to adopt her. If this doesn't work, perhaps you should try traveling to a location away from your home and waiting in that location for a day or two, then returning back to your home. It's possible that the game somehow registered a child you had spoken to as adopted by you without you realizing it, and they just hadn't gotten there yet. Also, I've seen other reports of the beds being marked as owned even when no one else is living in the home (as in, no housecarl, steward, child, or spouse) so that part might be normal. — ABCface 02:16, 2 October 2012 (GMT)

I'm having trouble where I built a big family house with everything but the inside decorations. I made lots of beds to help too. So my problem is that my family won't move to the house I built! Every since I adopted a child the "I'd like us to live somewhere else" option from my wife is gone! I want to move to the house I built from the house I bought in Whiterun. PC version. I had the same problem with my husband. While child adoption went without a problem (I could select my Lakeview Manor as a homebase during dialog), my husband, Farkas, didn't have correct dialog option after and before an adoption. During that time Farkas lived with me in custom house and I was using SPOUSE CAN LIVE EVERWHERE mod. When I move my husband to his own place, save the game, unsuscribe that mod and than load, suddenly correct dialog option appeared and I was able to move him to Lakeview Manor (my child was there already). To anyone with the same problem - look at your mods. 178.218.233.191 19:13, 7 October 2012 (GMT)

Invisible clothing

When I adopted a boy and a girl, I went to Radient Raiment in Solitude to buy and give them clothing. I bought 2 dresses for the girl and 2 tunics for the boy. When I gave them both of the clothes at the same time, they imediately put them on. Now I cant see their torso, just there faces, hands, and feet. — Unsigned comment by 76.8.221.183 (talk) at 01:45 on 3 October 2012‎

This has apparently happened to others as well, as it was brought up previously on this talk page. The bug is noted in the 'Bugs' section of the Child page. One user reported that giving their child another dress worked to fix it, while another said doing the same thing didn't work for them. A third user reported that telling her child to do her chores made the clothes suddenly appear. If I were you, I would try either reloading a previous save, or going through all possible dialogue/gifting options again until it resolves itself. — ABCface 02:36, 3 October 2012 (GMT)

Confirmed uninstalled Unoffical Skyrim Patch from Nexus it works, Unoffical Dawnguard Path seems to work — Unsigned comment by 79.240.63.179 (talk) at 06:04 on 6 October 2012‎

() I just confirmed both issues. I saved the game right before buying the Breezehome with The Unofficial Skyrim Patch installed, purchased everything and as soon as I entered the home it exited to desktop. I then reloaded the saved game without The Unofficial Skyrim Patch, purchased everything again and went right into Breezehome with no problems. Something about the Patch causes an error with Hearthfire. I even had another choice which was to Replace The Alchemy Lab with a Child's Room in the lists of decorations to buy. Doing a bit of digging I found that this is the way it is supposed to be. When you have the Patch installed you get a different choice of just Purchase a Child's Room and when you buy the Alchemy Lab the choice doesn't disappear as it should. Instead it is moved down to the bottom of the list and you can re-purchase it over and over again. So you have to make a choice at this point. Do you want what the Patch will do or do you want Breezehome. For now, I am going to stick with the Patch as it does so much other good stuff that it overides my want of Breezehome. Chris McCallum (talk) 14:38, 6 October 2012 (GMT)

I just did some furthur digging and found an Unofficial Skyrim Patch Version 1.2.2 Beta that fixes the Crash to Desktop problem with Breezehome and Hearthfire and confirmed it. While you can now enter Breezehome with this Beta Patch you still can't purchase the Alchemy Lab nor the Child's Room. Seems like these two items are caught up in a bug somewhere but at least with the Beta in place you can enter Breezehome. If these bugs carry over to other Hearthfire stuff I will disable The Unofficial Skyrim Patch as that seems the only way to fix everything at this point. Chris McCallum (talk) 15:16, 6 October 2012 (GMT)
I disabled the unofficial patch and it worked. It seems there is an unofficial patch for Heartfire on steam now but I don't know exactly what it fixes. --Sencilia (talk) 15:02, 7 October 2012 (GMT)
I did not have the unofficial patch but was experiencing this problem as well. I discovered that I had a mod which fixed the top step of the ladder, and that's what caused the CTD at Breezehome. I guess I can live with tripping over that top step every time I go up to the bedroom. — Unsigned comment by 66.91.48.115 (talk) at 08:33 on 8 October 2012‎

BYOH?!

While working on a patch for Imps complex needs, I noticed that everything seems to start with the prefix "BYOH" (IE: BYOHFoodappledumpling, BYOHSalmonRoe01, BYOHHouseFalkreath, etc). It's very much unlike Bethseda naming conventions (which usually take up "DLC0X" as a prefix) and seems to be much closer to what a lot of third party modders do. (edit conflict × 2) It's likely "build your own house/home", though that's purely a guess. It's not really relevant in gameplay, though, as it only affects the naming scheme in game-data. — ABCface 19:40, 5 October 2012 (GMT)
If that's the case, I'm guessing it's a shout-out to [Build your Own Home]. Possible easter egg? I mean, I do find it rather strange that they'd use that sort of acronym rather than the usual DLC0X prefix. Though then again it is a small dlc.--Rylasasin (talk) 19:47, 5 October 2012 (GMT)

I was having the same problem and found out that instead the Lakeview House was build by the bench that is suposed to build the Windstad house. () I believe that it this bug is a quest error. When I first installed Hearthfire, I was already the Thane of Morthal so I went there to start building my house. When I fast-traveled to Morthal, I ran into the courier who gave me messages from the Jarl of Falkreath and the letter from the orphanage. So I read the letter from the Jarl, which started the quest to build Lakeview. But instead of traveling to Falkreath, I started building Windstad. Unfortunately, I encountered the same bug where no matter what you build, nothing appears. After seeing the comment about the bench being for Lakeview (Falkreath), I realized what was happening. So I started building Lakeview first and it works now. In theory, I could see if I can build Windstad before reading the letter from the Jarl and see if that avoids the bug. — Unsigned comment by 66.91.48.115 (talk) at 02:08 on 8 October 2012‎

I have had an identical issue to this, but it also affects Heljarchen Hall, I build but nothing appears. I don't have Birds and Flocks installed, so it must be several mods that affect it. I would recommend giving up the house you are working on and build a new one with beds, and see what happens. Try deactivating the modification (Outside of your hearthfire home and without any NPCs as stewards or housecarls for those homes) load the game with it deactivated correctly, and then save (if it doesn't crash), exit, then re-load the modification again and re-load your save (it may crash here forever depending if that worked or not.) Response from Bethsoft support : Freezing, Lighting, and Sound

Response from Bethsoft support (Tue, Oct 9, 2012 at 1:52 AM)

Hi, Cody,

If you're freezing while entering your Hearthfire houses, we recommend taking the following steps:

1. Clear the cache on your 360 system. To clear the Xbox 360 system cache go to the Dashboard and press the middle "Guide" button on your Xbox 360 controller. Scroll to System Settings, Storage, then highlight the HDD, press Y… and then simply select “Clear System Cache”. Select Yes when prompted to perform Hard Drive Maintenance.

  • = Deleting the cache will remove temporary game files and updates. Saved games, profiles, DLC etc will NOT be removed.

2. If you have the game installed on the hard drive, try uninstalling it and reinstalling it. You already mentioned that you've done this with the DLC, so we'll cut that step out.

3. Remove the workbenches from the house's interior using the drafting table outside.

The lighting is a known issue that is being investigated by our development team. The Bard issue is throughout Skyrim and not just Hearthfire. They are made to provide an ambiance to the house, but they do not override the game's default soundtrack. This is due to the default music having a set volume level, and the bard is based on how close you are to him.

Best regards, Greg A.

Adopted Child Won't Come Home?

I've been having an issue with adopting kids from the streets, with both Lucia and Alesan. After I agree to adopt them, they say they'll get their things and say goodbye and then come home, but they never do. I've waited and waited and I have no clue whatsoever as to how I can fix this. I've already adopted one child, and I really want to adopt another one. Also, I assume that since the adoption process at Honorhall Orphanage is essentially the same as adopting a child from the streets that this glitch would come up there, too. PLEASE, HELP! I really, REALLY want two kids, not just one, and I can't find any way to fix the issue no matter how much googling and research I do. This is a huge pain in the ass. 75.186.4.71 02:49, 9 October 2012 (GMT)

Where are you waiting? I would try to wait in an area away from where you talked to them and away from the home where they're moving. Wait for a full day or two (in-game), then return to your home to see if they're around. Keep in mind that they may be in any part of your home, not just one particular room (sometimes not even inside, they can wander the "yard" or outside of your house as well) — ABCface 03:04, 9 October 2012 (GMT)
Are you sure that they are going to the right home? As in, Lakeview Manor, not Breezehome or Honeyside? Check your other houses, to make sure that they haven't lost their way. • JAT 03:06, 9 October 2012 (GMT)

A few questions about kidnapping?

I've been trying to find out more about kidnapping and ways to prevent it. I've written my questions below:

1) Can children be kidnapped? 2) How often does kidnapping occur? 3) Will getting a housecarl protect my wife and kids from being kidnapped?

Thanks in advance. Admittedly I think someone ought to write an article on the kidnapping thing, since technically it is a quest. Anyway, any help on this subject is GREATLY appreciated. I really don't want to have to hang around the house protecting it all the time so if I could take some measures to prevent or reduce the odds of my wife/children being kidnapped it would really help.75.186.4.71 03:32, 9 October 2012 (GMT)

So far, all we have is this ransom note, though I think the user who created that page is currently making a page for the NPC who does the kidnapping. I'm not sure about the other details yet, but once information is known, it should be added. Since the content is still fairly new, a lot of the HF stuff isn't documented yet. — ABCface 03:36, 9 October 2012 (GMT)
I see. In that case, I might create a page about kidnapping myself, just for the heck of it. I know enough about it to get a basic page up, and I suppose I'll just edit it as I find out more about it. 75.186.4.71 03:40, 9 October 2012 (GMT)

Decorating Proudspire Manor doesn't work

I have bought Proudspire Manor after installing Hearthfire and tried upgrading it: It seems that the Living Room and the Child's Room options have no effect (it removes the gold but they are not added to the house). Both upgrade options don't disappear and can be selected again (still without an effect other than wasting gold). As I didn't purchase that house before I cannot guarantee that it is purely Hearthfire related, but as the Child's Room has been added with Hearthfire it seems highly likely to me. 85.177.164.234 15:04, 9 October 2012 (GMT)

Hired Sven to be steward, although I pay him for furnishing, the furnishing doesn't come, or rather, everytime I travel out of the manor and back, only one piece of furniture is added (fireplace - travel - table - travel - display etc.)Is this how it's supposed to work when you pay your steward for furnishing? Also, is there any location that's glitch proof?

Yes, this is the way the furnishing options come when you hire your steward to do it for you. If you want them all there instantly, you must build them yourself. As for glitch-proof locations, I haven't had any *major* issues on any of the three houses and I've had all three on multiple characters, so you may have to look into bugs on an individual basis rather than asking a general question like that. Also, if you're playing on PC, there have been many reports of other mods conflicting with parts of Hearthfire, so disabling mods to figure out what causes certain issues is a good place to start. — ABCface 18:36, 12 October 2012 (GMT)

Steward wandering around / following me?

When i am walking through Skyrim (most time without fast traveling) and i come back to my manor (Heljarchen Hall) i find both my houscarl and steward (illia) sometimes absent. If i use the console i find Gregor a few 100 meters the road ahead (seems to patrol up to the whiterun guardtower (this one in the north of WR) When i used it for illia i was teleportet to (!!!) Labyrinthian. — Unsigned comment by 84.191.49.146 (talk) at 23:55 on 13 October 2012‎

One more bug?

When I am building my home (Lakeside Manor, in Falkreath), when it comes to the time to put on the front door, the game crashes to desktop. I'd like to see this added to the list of bugs on this page, if it's happening to others as well. I tried starting a new game, and it still happens! :( — Unsigned comment by 27.252.93.156 (talk) at 05:59 on 15 October 2012‎

Do you have any mods installed, other than DG/HF? Many users have reported issues with various mods and Heartfire, even with well-known/popular mods such as USKP. Also, if the bug occurs with no other mods installed, and it does get listed somewhere, it should be on the Lakeview Manor as it's more relevant to that particular home than the game in general. — ABCface 06:07, 15 October 2012 (GMT)
