Lockbox

It seems to me that the heart within the lockbox is most likely the Heart of Lorkhan, as Septimus Signus states that it is the heart of a God and was thought destroyed by the Nerevarine... 138.16.28.109 01:22, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Septimus is mad, and what lies inside is the Oghma Infinium. No hear of any God. — Unsigned comment by 50.90.12.213 (talk) at 20:18 on 20 March 2012

Image

This article might need a picture of Oghma Infinium from Skyrim. Unfortunately i forgot to make one or save the game before using it --Electricitydrive 22:53, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

If you're talking about the images displayed in the book, they've already been uploaded. See Skyrim:Oghma Infinium. --NepheleTalk 23:12, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
No i meant image of a cover, or maybe a book on pedestal, maybe even the box itself? --Electricitydrive 00:08, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Prerequisite Quest

You don't need to have finished the Throats of the World quest to start this quest. I've not finished the quest yet, but I have got this quest without finishing Throats of the World. Hellfire29 03:01, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

No prerequisite quest just go to septimus' little cave and get the quest. — Unsigned comment by 50.90.12.213 (talk) at 20:16 on 20 March 2012

Sphere artifact - useless?

When I was given the quest to take the lexicon into Alftand, Signus gave me two artifacts, the lexicon itself (cube) and a sphere supposedly used for 'attunement'. Did anyone else finish this quest without even looking at the sphere? It's now stuck in my inventory - have no idea where it was supposed to be used! Fallimar 16:30, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Attunement sphere is used to open passage into Blackreach. In fact - i've used it twice. Once to upon the passage from Alftand Cathedral to Blackreach and the second time to open passage from Mzinchaleft to Blackreach. --Electricitydrive 01:07, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Question about perks

Does anyone know if the stat progression rewarded for successfully completing this quest will count towards your level progress? I don't want to miss more perks. — Unsigned comment by 83.86.23.4 (talk) at 18:09 on 22 November 2011

Yes they count towards you level progress. Why would you miss any perks? Unused perk points simply stay there until you decide how to use them. Even if you already got enough points to progress towards next level but did not choose to increase health/stamina or magicka you can still increase your points safely and they will count towards next level once you actually level up. --Electricitydrive 01:07, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
If he gained skill levels without experience, it would result in less available skill levels resulting in experience and therefore less perks. — Unsigned comment by 24.17.224.194 (talk) at 07:25 on 15 December 2011
I don't know where you got that info from, a new perk point is always added at levelup. Training skills and skill rewards don;t change that. And please sign your comments. --211.26.203.82 00:22, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Oghma Infinium

Can anyone verify that the bug mentioned has worked for them? I have tried, however it does not give me multiple bonuses... — Unsigned comment by 99.248.236.185 (talk) at 22:06 on 25 November 2011

I tried it too, but could only do it twice. The method described didn't completely work for me. When I take the book from the shelf to my inventory again, I can read it but not get any statups. I got it twice by activating the bookshelf, reading the book in my inventory, storing it into shelf, exiting and taking the book from shelf (but not by activating the inventory screen for bookself, but reading it directly). Then the book would disappear. — Unsigned comment by 88.194.192.8 (talk) at 23:11 on 26 November 2011
--Edit: The method below works, thanks! This should be edited to main page too, to avoid confusion. — Unsigned comment by 109.240.155.72 (talk) at 12:03 on 27 November 2011
I can confirm it works. I couldn't get it to work at first, but the instructions i had read are totally wrong, now i've seen how its actually done.
You have to open the bookshelf, then read the book while it's in your inventory and pick a skill set, then drop the book into the bookshelf.........then exit the bookshelf.........you then pick the book up off the shelf and not from the inventory of the bookshelf. Do not read it, just pick it up after selecting not to read it........then you can start again from the beginning.
Hope that helps  ;) Citti 00:05, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
For me, utilizing a bookshelf for this broke the bookshelf. Placing it in a chest in my house also worked, and did not break the chest. — Unsigned comment by 99.48.254.60 (talk) at 19:36 on 2 December 2011
Have you applied the last patch? Bookshelves are broken for me since the last patch that's why i ask. Seems i can use them once then they break and i can't access the shelf or the books on it Citti 15:27, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
I also can confirm that it works. To get around the current broken bookshelf problem, I just stored the book each time in my safe at Proudspire Manor. I would then take the book out and add it to my inventory. I then accessed the book from my inventory, chose the path, and immediately dropped the book from my inventory. Then, I would pick it back up and store it back in my safe, and repeat the aforementioned steps to continously recieve the 5 skill points from the related chosen path(s). -Pitt; 3 December 2011 — Unsigned comment by 76.101.139.228 (talk) at 19:30 on 3 December 2011
I used the book in my inventory and didn't gain any skills, nor did the book disappear. --— Unsigned comment by 67.170.96.83 (talk) at 09:13 on 5 December 2011

() Need new conformation on the above-mentioned bookshelf bug / glitch. I am on the 360 and it does not appear to work for one very simple reason... There is no way to obtain a book without "reading" it. When you press the "A" button, it "Reads" (Opens) the book before allowing the prompt to take it. I've tried it in both a bookshelf I own (Emptied first) as well as a bookshelf at The Arcanium in The College of Winterhold. It should be mentioned that the book does NOT vanish off the bookshelf, but merely becomes a simple unscripted book (In terms of prompting the "Paths" one can choose.) 3:22am, Dec 7th 2011. — Unsigned comment by 50.44.13.162 (talk) at 09:22 on 7 December 2011

I was not even aware it was possible to pick books up without reading them on any version of the game. Seriously, can you actually do that? --Dorsal Axe 13:19, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
I have still refused to download the latest patch on PS3, thankfully...so I can confirm that the bug works without the 1.2 patch, and all my skills are now at 100. When you pick up/activate Oghma Infinium you will "read" it, however, a dialogue box will open that asks you what "path" you want to take... this dialogue box also gives you the option to "not read" the book, which you can select, and then nothing will happen and it will leave it in your inventory until you decide to select the "path" in the book... which, for the bug to work, requires that you be in the bookshelf-inventory screen while the book is in your possesion — Unsigned comment by 108.71.171.169 (talk) at 18:35 on 8 December 2011

Still Works with v. 1.3

I just tested this out on the latest update for PC in the bookshelf in the middle of the main room of Hjerim.

Step 1: With Oghma Infinum in my inventory, I click to activate the bookshelf.
Step 2: I click to Read the O.I., and select the path I choose.
Step 3: Immediately exit out of reading the O.I. then click to Store the book on the shelf.
Step 4: Click to Read the O.I. from the shelf, but select Do Not Read then Take.
Step 5: Rinse and Repeat.

I hope this helps, as this is an awesome exploit. Voraxith 04:32, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Confirmation that this is still spot on for v 1.4.21 Steam PC -- stuwade 86.171.10.111 14:53, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

High Elf Location

I found a high elf (Altmer) while acquiring the Skull of Corruption during the Waking Nightmare daedric quest. One of the first five or so non-Orc characters to awaken is able to be used for Altmer blood. — Unsigned comment by 99.177.172.253 (talk) at 21:01 on 26 November 2011

Took me ages to find the High Elf (i'm not that far along in the main quest so didn't want to go to the embassy just yet), just found a dead one in the basement of Pinewatch though so that was handy. Pinewatch cabin is just a short way North East of Falkreath. Citti 00:10, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
Really? Do you happen to remember where? I just ran through it but wasnt able to find one. 76.126.125.93 12:26, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
When you get into the basement there is a bookshelf with a switch at the side, that then leads to the underground part (sorry should have mentioned that), the dead high elf is at the beginning of that underground part. Citti 11:13, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Altmer, Dunmer can generally be found anywhere mage enemies can be found. Fellglow Keep is a good place to look, as it's relatively close to Whiterun.--DaedalusMachina 03:37, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Please refrain from recording personal experiences into the wiki

I would like to advise others to avoid opinionated strategy when adding to the wiki. Please avoid phrases like "Just a note on using Liar's Retreat, when I entered there are about 5-8 leveled Falmer that are attacking the Bandits in the place, which eventually leads back to a leveled chest at the end of a short cave inhabited by Falmer. Basically, just be prepared to fight off a pretty big swarm upon entering the cave." The wiki is not a message board so if you have any additional details to discuss besides the specifics of the quest please post them on the "Discussion" tab only. 96.238.44.206 01:43, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Gave blood to septimus signus then left to come back once my levels were up higher.

I gave the blood to septimus signus and opened the cube. But then i decided I would wait to read the book until I had leveled up some more so i left to come back later. Well now it's many many hours later and I return... to find the cube isn't open anymore? wtf. I can see the arrow pointing to the book, but the cube will not open. Am i fucked? Is there anyway to reopen the cube. Is this some sort of glitch preventing me from completing this quest? Help! — Unsigned comment by 173.48.250.205 (talk) at 17:42 on 3 December 2011

I have had the same problem. Firstly, I had the but where Septimus doesn't get killed, so I went away thinking that maybe if I went back later it might work. Went back later, having read this discussion tab with the intention of killing the annoying prick myself, but he's now trapped in the cube and I can't get in. Any suggestions? Earlier save not an option, at least 20 hours back! --Rob — Unsigned comment by 80.6.103.250 (talk) at 00:17 on 12 December 2011
I also have the same problem dumb game, they could at least worn you if you leave the cube will close. Does anyone know how to fix this????????-Matt — Unsigned comment by 64.180.190.86 (talk) at 06:06 on 13 January 2012
If you have the PC version, turn off collision, go to Signus, and kill him. That will advance the quest. If you don't have the PC version, you're out o' luck. (Bear in mind that taking the Infinium doesn't mean you have to read it...at least, it didn't for me. Maybe you have to screw up the quest like we did, I dunno.) Harvesting Blood

So how exactly do I "harvest" blood? I've gotten the quest from HM and Septimus and I have the Essence Extractor in inventory, but when I come across or kill one of the required species I can't use the Extractor or access the person's blood in any fashion I can discover. -- Wordmama 18:09, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Figured out what I was doing wrong, I think. I killed the Dunmer who runs the arms shop Fletcher in Solitude and the game didn't give me the option to harvest blood from him; later on, I killed an unnamed Dunmer in a cave, and when I went to search his body it asked if I wanted to harvest blood. So perhaps it only works on unnamed or nonessential characters ... Any further info on this would be helpful, i.e., what exactly makes an NPC harvestable or not. -- Wordmama 18:44, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
As far as I can tell, it must be a naturally hostile NPC. I.E. - Bandits. Easy locations for all are simply any Bandit-ridden mine / stronghold, any Conjurer / Necromancer fort, and any Falmer-ridden keep. Finding a Wood Elf is rather tricky though, but Bandit Archers seem to spawn as them a decent chunk of time. 3:20am, Dec 7th, 2011. — Unsigned comment by 50.44.13.162 (talk) at 09:22 on 7 December 2011
I was able to harvest Faendal's (Wood Elf) blood in Riverwood. This was in a video I found. You will have to kill him and pay the bounty etc. He is a potential follower. --136.1.1.102 16:53, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Harvesting Blood from Eaten Corpeses

I went back to harvest the Alftand expedition's corpses, and found that the system didn't offer me the option for two of them. Then I realized that I had eaten them as I went along for the health boost due to my Ring of Namira. Anyone else run into a corpse you didn't have the option of harvesting for the same reason? Is there any fix for this? —Yoda8myhead 08:09, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Odd occurrence with the Oghma Infinium

I know that this sort of thing is frowned upon on this Wiki, but if you would all allow me to explain the situation I would like to start an interesting topic point. I have finished the quest needed to obtain the Oghma Infinium and have attempted several different variations of the exploit on the Xbox 360. None of them have worked. Absolutely none of them. I have not tried on several different profiles, because I only have the one character. I understand that with the 360, patches are automatically updated and the game can (In theory) change over night. Here is the strange thing though. Although I am a subscribed member of Xbox Live, I do not have Internet connection at the moment. Membership became to expensive and meaningless after some time to me and so I ran out my last month over a year ago. I bought the game and it updated without me turning back to Gold (Still Silver) and what's even more strange is that I have no Ethernet Cable nor WiFi Router connected to my system. So how I got the patches updated on my 360 is beyond me since I am not connected at all. In addition, I'd like to point out something that may or may not be related toward the possible issues related toward the exploit not working. In my travels in the game, I have failed to get the Elder Scroll out of my inventory. Is the exploit not working possibly related to still carrying the Elder Scroll, and is there any way to check? — Unsigned comment by 50.44.13.162 (talk) at 09:55 on 7 December 2011

You can sell the Elder Scroll to the Orc in Winterhold College after you've finished the part of the MQ that requires it. Torinir 16:54, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
First, you don't need Gold to get patches or other downloads. Silver membership is free and does all that. Second, patches are not automatic on the 360 as they are on Steam. On the 360, you get a message saying a patch is available and you can choose whether to download it. If you say 'no', you are disconnected from Xbox Live and can continue to play Skyrim on your current version. I (and a lot of others, I'm sure) did just that when patch 1.2 came out. Oghma Infinium skill glitch

I don't know if this is known yet but there is a simpler way to keep the book after reading it. Simply get any follower to follow you (save first just to make sure) then open their inventory and go to the Infinium. Read it then give it to your follower WHILE YOU ARE IN THAT FOLLOWERS INVENTORY. The book won't dissapear and you can just take it back and repeat. This worked every time for me on the 360 but I highly suggest saving first. This is easier and safer than the bookshelf glitch because it does not render the follower "broken" — Unsigned comment by Sul (talkcontribs) at 13:41 on 12 December 2011

Doesn't work for me either on Xbox with no patches applied. The book is still readable but the menu with the three paths doesn't show up anymore after using it. — Unsigned comment by 188.193.203.13 (talk) at 19:37 on 18 December 2011

Is this bug confirmed?

"After obtaining the Elder Scroll, if you immediately go to The Throat of the World and read the scroll then go to Septimus and give him the lexicon, the quest will say "wait until he has figured out the lexicon and then he will contact you". He never will, making the quest uncompleteable." Cause of this bugnote I did a setstage two times cause I was thinking I had this problem, Now I'm very possitive it is cause I wasn't yet at lvl 15. I'll rewrite it so the difference is clearer. But my thought is, cause the lvl 15 requirement isn't visable in game, perhaps people just thought they where bugged cause they weren't lvl 15 yet...???82.170.196.12 05:42, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

i can confirm this bug... i just sat here for like 1hr trying to get level 15 from 8 and then found out about this bug... im on PS3 so i can't set stage and the last time i saved was in alftand... 174.110.217.29 19:42, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

bug: Signus does not die

At the last step, Signus might not die. I just killed him myself which made the quest advance — Unsigned comment by 86.42.241.32 (talk) at 16:12 on 21 December 2011

I had the same problem: I gave the blood to Signus and he proceeded to open the cube. However, my journal still had the last objective (i.e. give blood to signus) as uncompleted and Signus stood before the pedestal with the book and nothing happened. I've waited several hours, exited and re-entered the location but it didn't help. The only thing that did help was killing Signus. 83.6.26.53 21:30, 26 December 2011 (UTC)wasienka

Uttering Hills Cave Altmer Corpses

When I did this quest I was looking for altmer bodies so I took the suggestion on this page of Skyrim:Uttering Hills Cave, went through it and found no altmer, and subsequently removed what I thought was a wrong bit of information on this page about the altmer bodies there. However I think there are some quest-related altmer there from the thieves guild quest Skyrim:Summerset Shadows, possibly only if the player is in the thieves guild. Can anyone confirm under what conditions the cave holds altmer? Niffweed17, Destroyer of Chickens 01:22, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

You can not harvest blood from Nurelion. I tried killing him as well but he is invincible and doesn't take damage. — Unsigned comment by 81.216.211.203 (talk) at 17:18 on 16 January 2012

Attunement Sphere Stuck in Inventory

I know there is another discussion section which mentions this, but that person seemed to be asking what it was used for rather than what I'm wondering about. I just completed this quest, but am unable to remove the Attunement Sphere from my inventory because it is considered a quest item. I know that the 'Bugs' section of this article has a note about the sphere(s) being permanently stuck in your inventory if you pick up the additional sphere from Sinderion's building, but there isn't anything mentioned about the original being stuck on its own. Does this item lose its status as a quest item when you do the part of the main questline related to this? Or is it there permanently? Maybe something about this should be mentioned in the 'Notes' or 'Bugs' section of the article. Thoughts, anyone? Alphabetface 05:39, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Just a guess, but maybe it's permanent so that the player will be able to use all of the Blackreach entrances. Maybe it even loses its Quest Item status when they're all open. Can somebody check this? 74.162.83.216 17:55, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
I have opened all the Blackreach entrances and the sphere is still a quest item and stuck in my inventory. I'm on PS3. DeeLow 01:40, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for checking this out, DeeLow. I'll make a note on the article if it isn't there already. Alphabetface 06:13, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
I tried unlocking the other 2 entrances to Blackreach as soon as I reached Blackreach through Alftand (before getting the Elder Scroll), and discovering all 3 of the great lifts in Blackreach before going back to give the blood to Septimus, and the sphere is still stuck in inventory. This is on Xbox 360 with a playthrough that started with patch 1.4--24.92.180.9 04:43, 24 February 2012 (UTC).
