Skyrim:Loading Screens

< Skyrim

These loading screens appear when a new area is loaded. A message and related 3D model are displayed that can often be of help, especially to new players. Depending on how long the game takes to load, multiple messages may be displayed. Some messages only appear under certain conditions. If a condition is satisfied, that image will appear (e.g., the character generation message will always appear during a new game). Most of the load screens with conditions therefore have a percentage chance of appearing, in order to make them more or less likely to appear under certain circumstances, but still allow some randomness. If no conditions are satisfied, one of the remaining load screens is selected at random.

If you have an enchanted weapon equipped, its current enchantment level is shown above your Stamina bar or Magicka bar. Weapons\Elven\1stPersonElvenWarAxe.nif
Inns are a great place to pick up rumors. The innkeeper can usually point you to local quests. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenArgonianBarkeep.nif
Items can be stored safely in any containers in your own home. But items kept in any other containers may not be there later when you go to retrieve them... LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenThief01.nif
Magicka is the energy used to power spells. The higher the magicka, the more spells that can be cast. Weapons\Staff04\1stPersonStaff04.nif
Most friends and hirelings that are following you can be ordered to interact with the world. They can unlock doors, pick up objects, go to specific locations, or attack enemies. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenMaleNord.nif

Once you've helped someone, they will like you. Some people may even be willing to follow you and carry out your orders. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenArgonianBarkeep.nif

Sleeping in a bed applies the Rested bonus. Sleeping in a bed you own applies the Well Rested bonus. Weapons\Orcish\1stPersonOrcishGreatsword.nif

Wearing heavy armor or using heavy weapons will slow you down. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenDwarvenArmor.nif
When your Magicka or Stamina bar flashes, it means you cannot perform the action you just attempted. Power attacks become regular attacks, and spells fail. Weapons\Forsworn\1stPersonForswornStaff.nif
(CC)You can cook some meals over the open flames of your campfire at campsites that you build. Cameras\LSCameraPanZoomInSmall.nif (?) In Tamriel or Solstheim, 5% chance.
You move more slowly with your weapon drawn. Weapons\Daedric\1stPersonDaedricGreatSword.nif

Leveling up grants a bonus to your choice of Health, Magicka, or Stamina. Choosing Stamina also increases your carrying capacity. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenLogo.nif
Quest-RelatedEdit
If you have too many quest targets, check your journal to see if you have more than one active quest. In the Miscellaneous category, you can turn each objective on or off. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenLogo.nif
When you get a new quest, it will not become active unless you have no other active quests. Check your journal to see which quests are active. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenLogo.nif
ShoutsEdit
After you use a Shout power, the compass outline will glow brightly. It fades from the center, indicating the time until you can Shout again. Actors\Male\GreyBeardStatic.nif

You can learn up to three words for a Shout. Each word adds to the power of the Shout. Actors\Male\GreyBeardStatic.nif

CombatEdit

A greatsword swings faster than a battleaxe, and a battleaxe swings faster than a warhammer. Weapons\Orcish\1stPersonOrcishWarhammer.nif
Any attacks done while both sneaking and undetected will do extra damage. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenKhajiitThief.nif
Any inventory item marked with a small arrow indicates it is probably more effective than what you currently have equipped. Weapons\Steel\1stPersonSteelWarhammer.nif
Combat-based magic only improves when used against valid opponents. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenBretonMage.nif

Two-handed weapons do more damage than one-handed weapons, but don't block as effectively. Weapons\Daedric\1stPersonDaedricBattleAxe.nif
ArcheryEdit
A readied arrow will be put back into its quiver if the bow is sheathed. Weapons\Draugr\DraugrBowSkinned.nif
To get the maximum range and damage with a bow, hold down Attack until the bow is fully drawn. Weapons\Ebony\EbonyBowSkinned.nif
ShieldsEdit
Attacks can be blocked with either a shield or a weapon, but shields are much more effective. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenDwarvenArmor.nif
Bashing with a shield will stagger an opponent. If timed properly, it will also interrupt a power attack. Armor\Daedric\1stPersonDaedricShield.nif
Blocking with a shield or weapon will recoil an attack, and stagger the attacker. Armor\Elven\ElvenShield.nif
Successfully bashing with either a shield or weapon will always stagger an opponent. Armor\Elven\ElvenShield.nif
Power AttacksEdit
A power attack against an opponent who is blocking will break through the block, without staggering the attacker. Weapons\Dwarven\1stPersonDwarvenGreatSword.nif
A power attack might stagger an opponent, preventing him from immediately counteracting. Weapons\Ebony\1stPersonEbonyMace.nif
A successful power attack has a chance to stagger an opponent who is not blocking. Weapons\NordHero\1stPersonNordHeroBattleAxe.nif
A successful power attack will always break an opponent's block, and cause a stagger. Weapons\NordHero\1stPersonNordHeroGreatsword.nif
Moving while holding down Attack results in a power attack. Moving in different directions creates different power attacks. Weapons\Daedric\1stPersonDaedricWarhammer.nif
Power attacks use Stamina. If the Stamina bar is flashing, any attempted power attack becomes a regular attack instead. Weapons\Glass\1stPersonGlassMace.nif

CrimeEdit

A guard may stop combat if his attacker sheathes any weapons. But even if the yield is accepted, the guard will still attempt an arrest. Weapons\Elven\1stPersonElvenSword.nif   In a city, 4% chance.
An excessively high bounty will cause a Hold's guards to attack the wanted person on sight. Weapons\Imperial\1stpersonImperialSword.nif
Each Hold tracks its crime separately. A wanted criminal in Whiterun might have no bounty in Solitude, and so on. Clutter\CivilWar\CivilWarMap01.nif
Pick someone's pocket by activating them while sneaking. Looking at their inventory is harmless - taking anything is a crime. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenKhajiitThief.nif
Serving jail time causes some skills to lose their accumulated progress to the next value. The longer the sentence, the more skills that are affected. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenMetalCage.nif

MagicEdit

All currently active magic effects, including diseases and armor enchantments, are shown in the Magic inventory, under "Active Effects." Armor\Glass\M\HelmetGlassGO.nif

Enemies are displayed onscreen differently than friends when you cast Detect Life or Detect Dead. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenSpellTomeAlteration.nif
Fire burns for a while after the target is hit, doing extra damage, and is useful against all types of opponents. Weapons\Dwarven\1stPersonDwarvenStaffGem.nif
In addition to doing regular damage, Frost attacks deplete the target's Stamina, and slow them down. Use them to prevent enemies from doing as many power attacks. Weapons\Staff02\1stPersonStaff02.nif
In addition to doing regular damage, Shock spells also deplete the target's Magicka. They're particularly useful against wizards. Weapons\Dwarven\DwarvenBowSkinned.nif
Rune spells create magical traps, but only on surfaces close to the caster. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenShopsMagic01.nif
Spellbooks can be purchased from the court wizard in the Jarl's palace. LoadScreenArt\LoadScreenShopsMagic01.nif   In a city, 4% chance.

BugsEdit

  • The two Labyrinthian load screens will display randomly for the remainder of the game once triggered, rather than only during the relevant quests, as seems to have been intended.
  • The New Game and Blindsighted load screens will do the same and also display randomly for the remainder of the game once triggered, instead of only during the relevant quests or times.
  • The two load screens added by The Cause are set to display once the global variable ccBGSSSE067_ShowLoadScreens is set to 1, but nowhere is it changed from its default value of 0. ?
  • You might get loading screens even when you don't fulfill the criteria for seeing them (such as Thieves Guild screens when you're not even part of the Thieves Guild). ?
