Find The Rat in his hideout near the Imperial Arena
Someone calling themselves The Rat left a note claiming that the Daedra are slaughtering people in the Imperial Arena. If I slay the Daedra, instead, The Rat promised to reward me with a secret about Molag Bal's plan for Imperial City.

Quick WalkthroughEdit

  1. Read the Bloody Scroll at the Alliance Rally Point in the Arena District.
  2. Defeat the Devourer, Uzzai, Migoruz and Dredaza the Ringmaster in the Arena.
  3. Talk to The Rat in his hideout.
  4. Report to the Drake of Blades in the Alliance Base.

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

To start the quest, read the notice left by The Rat in the Arena District. The note is on the floor upon exiting the sewer through the ladder in the Alliance Base.

Bored! The Rat is so very bored! No more fights in the arena—no, no. Just Daedra feeding people to their ugly pets. Day and night, it’s nothing but merchants, and tailors, and stable boys screaming and soiling their pants. What sport is that?
<Keep reading.>
If you are a true warrior, go to the arena. Kill their gladiators. Slay their stupid beasts. Put on a show. Do this, and The Rat will tell you a secret about Molag Bal's plots. It’s one you won't want to miss.
The Rat is waiting! Start killing!
Killing Daedra in the Imperial Arena might give me some insight into their plans.

This Rat is very bored, and wants to see a real sport. Furthermore, they claim to have crucial insight into Molag Bal's schemes. If you can slay the Daedric ringmaster in the Imperial Arena, perhaps you'll be able to learn something useful.

Defeat the Ringmaster's champions to win the right to intel

The Arena is the focal point of the Arena District—you can't miss it. You can enter the Arena through the northeastern entrance (across from the Ethereal Trophy Vault or traverse the Daedra-filled underhalls after entering through one of several holes in the wall. All you need to do to gain access to the Rat's hideout is slay Dredaza the Ringmaster. You can piggyback off of a larger group or ask others for help if that's what gets the job done. However, not everyone is fortunate enough to have people available online (strangers, guildmates or otherwise) who are willing to help them complete the Arena, so you might need to brace yourself to complete the challenge alone.

The first fight is against the Devourer, a giant armored Clannfear. The Devourer can lift her head skyward and screech, summoning two Dread Clannfear. Try to avoid her landing on you when she pounces; she'll pin you down and begin chewing on your flesh, immobilizing you and rapidly dealing a lot of physical damage over time. She can also charge at you. The Ringmaster is holding several Imperial citizens captive, releasing them one by one to fight the Devourer.

Once the Clannfear is dead, a Harvester named Uzzai is summoned into the ring. She occasionally disappears; when she does this, she summons and compels unwilling gladiators to fight, pitting them against you. These gladiators will apologize profusely as they attack you. Once all of her summoned gladiators are killed, Uzzai returns to the ring. Once Uzzai goes down, the Ringmaster teleports a giant Ogrim named Migoruz down into the ring from the stands. The Ringmaster's hands will begin to glow blue after she brings Migoruz into the fray; she's calling down cold-fire meteors to bombard the battlefield. Stay out of the red circles that indicate where these are going to land. Migoruz himself is physically powerful. Get out of the way when he charges at you.

When Migoruz's health falls to 50%, the Ringmaster enters the arena and absorbs his essence. The Ringmaster will summon three to four flame atronachs every now and then, so be sure to coordinate your attacks, pull them in if you can, and try to focus your attention on the Ringmaster as much as you can. Once the Ringmaster falls, her second-in-command informs the crowd that the games have been temporarily postponed. The Rat then approaches you. Follow him through the wooden door on the west side of the arena, beneath the Ringmaster's perch and behind each boss's spawn point. This door leads to the Arena Storage Room, which contains a trapdoor that takes you to the Rat's hideout. You'll find him in front of the fireplace. Talk to him.

'"The Rat was entertained! Oh, most entertained! The Daedra … not so much. No, they weren't entertained at all."
In your note, you claimed to have information about Molag Bal's plan for Imperial City. What is it?
"Yes, yes! The Rat has ears to the ground. Ears to the walls! My little friends are everywhere and they hear secrets whispered by Daedra big and small. Tasty secrets.
These Daedra plot and whisper, you see, and The Rat listens. He always listens."
That's great. So what has The Rat heard these Daedra say?
"They speak of the Dragonfires! They seek to snuff them out forever, oh yes. The Rat heard this quite clearly.
No Dragonfires ever again. No more Dragon-God promises. No more Eight-blessed emperors in shiny hats. Just death and slavery, forever!"
But the Dragonfires have already been extinguished.
"For now. Only for now! Don't you know the story? When Alessia's heirs wear the Amulet of Kings, the fires will burn again! Even a mighty Daedric Prince must hide from such a light!
Unless Molag Bal erases them, of course. Unless that happens."
How could Molag Bal "erase" the Dragonfires?
"You beg The Rat to share all his crumbs? No, no. The Rat has said enough!
You want more, greedy one? Find the Drake of Blades. She's close, very close. Down in the sewers. She would like to nibble on this crumb, oh yes. Tell her the Prince's plan!"
Fine. I'll speak to the Drake of Blades in the Imperial sewers.

The Rat tells you that Molag Bal plans to snuff out the Dragonfires forever, so the covenant between Akatosh and mortalkind can never be renewed. The Rat wants you to bring this news to the Drake of Blades, who is in your Alliance base. Once you exit the Rat's hideout, you can exit the Arena Storage Room through one of the side doors. Return to your Alliance base and speak to the Drake of Blades, who rewards you for bringing her news of Molag Bal's plot.

NotesEdit

  • Unlike the Imperial Arena Champion achievement, you don't have to participate in all four Arena waves in order to complete this quest. Simply killing Dredaza the Ringmaster will suffice to gain access to the Rat's hideout.

Quest StagesEdit

The Watcher in the Walls
Finishes Quest Journal Entry
I must travel to the Imperial Arena, enter the Daedra's bloody martial contest, and defeat all comers.
Objective: Defeat All Daedra in the Arena
I've slaughtered all Daedra in the Imperial Arena. Perhaps this will catch The Rat's attention. I should wait to be contacted.
Objective: Wait for The Rat to Contact You
After I slaughtered the Daedra in the Imperial Arena, a threadbare figure appeared outside the arena and called to me.

This may be The Rat. I should follow him.

Objective: Find The Rat's Hideout
I've discovered The Rat's hideout, a small room beneath the Imperial Arena. I should see what he has to say about Molag Bal's plans for Imperial City.
Objective: Talk to The Rat
The Rat told me that Molag Bal somehow plans to "erase" the Dragonfires, which prevent Daedric invasions so long as an emperor descended from Saint Alessia holds the throne. He suggested I bring this news to the Drake of Blades in the sewers.
Objective: Talk to the Drake of Blades
Finishes quest  I told the Drake of Blades about The Rat's claims that Molag Bal has a way to extinguish the Dragonfires forever, even if a new emperor is crowned. We should plan our next move.
Objective: Talk to the Drake of Blades
