Kantav Cheynoslin; his behaviour seems to be caused by a Chapel Explore package that has a higher priority then the Sleep package. The Explore package has a duration of 2 hours, but can be activated anytime. It's condition is a random chance of 33%. So anytime his AI packages are evaluated, he has a 33% chance of waking up and starting to wander the Chapel. His claims of ownership may be caused by the same package that has the "Unlock Doors" flags checked (usually intended for Merchants to open their shops), but I'm not sure what the conflict is precisely. --Timenn-<talk> 12:19, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for looking it up, Timenn. And let me get this straight: that "Chapel Explore"-package is active for an entire 24-hour day? - or is it only active at night time? The shop-thing sounds plausible enough. I'm going to pay him another visit, just to check if he gets "ownership" at the same times every night - or if that too is interrupted by the Chapel Explore-package. The package can be activated all day, but only the Sleep package has a lower priority. The other packages have a higher priority, and aren't interrupted by it (like it works with most AI schedules). --Timenn-<talk> 11:31, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

It took some time, but I finally figured out how to deal with him. As far as I'm concerned, his schedule looks like this:

  • 6am: Gets out of bed, wanders the Chapel Hall (throws you out at random times if you enter)
  • 12pm: Eats his lunch at the Three Sisters Inn.
  • 2pm: Returns to the Chapel Hall and wanders around (still throwing you out if you enter)
  • 6pm: Eats his dinner in the main part of the chapel.
  • 8pm: Returns to the Chapel Hall (guess what? He still throws you out)
  • 12am: Goes to bed for a long night of getting up, wandering, sleeping ect ect

One other oddity:

  • 6am: Gets out of bed, heads upstairs and spends two seconds in front of the Altar of the Nine before returning to the Chapel Hall.

What we need to learn from the CS is why he throws you out when he is in the Chapel Hall, why he keeps getting up all through the night and why he makes such a brief visit to the Chapel. Also worth checking is, if he has some kind of different schedule on non-rainy days (it rained when I followed him, like always in Leyawiin) - and, of course, if my times are correct. Right. There are 8 AI Packages. I will address them in the order I believe they apply to your given schedule.
  • LeyawiinChapelSanctuaryExplore - applies to every moment of the day. There is 33% chance this package is performed, otherwise LeyawiinChapelHallExplore is performed. The former makes Kantav explore the chapel itself, the latter makes Kantav wander the Chapel Hall (not Undercroft). These two packages are the fallback behaviour.
  • 8am-10am, on sundas ony; LeyawiinPrimateSundayWorship: He will travel to the altar in the chapel, seems normal.
  • 12pm-2pm: LeyawiinLunchThreeSisters12x2: Seems normal.
  • 2pm-6pm: LeyawiinWanderCentral14x4: Wanders around town, only if it doesn't rain.
  • 6pm-8pm: aaaEat18x2: Default Eat package.
  • 8pm-10pm: LeyawiinWanderCemetary20x2: Wanders around the cemetary, only if it doesn't rain.
  • 12am-6pm: LeyawiinChapelHallSleep0x6: His troubled sleep. We discussed this, he seems to be interrupted by LeyawiinChapelSanctuaryExplore everytime his packages are evaluated, and the 33% condition is passed.
Now I believe that LeyawiinChapelSanctuaryExplore is the cause of the territorial behaviour. I'm not sure how many times packages are evaluated per game-hour, but I think it's more than a few times. That would explain why this package starts so often. 33% is not a big chance, but enough repetition will make sure it's passed. Only this passage has the Unlock doors flag checked, which is usually used for shopkeepers to open their shops in the morning. All right, I have checked the schedule in-game from the CS data above, and it seems like we have it more or less nailed:
  • 6am; Starts his day with a quick prayer in front of the altar, then wanders the chapel hall with an occasional visit upstairs
  • 12pm: Eats lunch at the Three Sisters
  • 2pm: Wanders the area near the House for Sale (heads back to his 6am routine if it's raining)
  • 6pm: Returns to the chapel and eats his dinner in the main hall.
  • 8pm: Strolls around the graveyard near the chapel (heads back to his 6am routine if it's raining)
  • 10pm: Returns to the chapel and falls back to his usual routine.
  • 12am: Goes to bed.
  • On sundas, between 8am and 10am, he prays in front of the Altar of the Nine.
When writing the page, we will probably need two bug-notes. One explaining why he wakes up at random times during the night - and one explaining his hostility against you being in the Chapel Hall. The first one is solved in the explanation above - the hostility is an odd one, but could have something to do with the lock/unlock door package. But why? And does it happen to everybody or just me? Ironically, Silana Blandia (a resident of the same chapel) asks you to leave as well, and as it turns out, she has the same unlock-package. Maybe it's a bug in the KotN-plug-in? - Krusty 20:39, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
Ah, well, this is my personal theory - it might be stupid and everything, but what if Kantav and Silana isn't affected when you install the KotN-plug-in (which makes the undercroft and chapel halls available to all members of the Nine Divines-faction) and keep their lock/unlock package as the only chapel members in the game? That would explain a lot! Of course, I can't check it - but I think it's worth checking out. Krusty 21:21, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
Okay, getting up in the middle of the night is easy - the Sleep package should really be bumped up by one in the list, otherwise the LeyawiinChapelSanctuaryExplore code kicks in any time its 33% condition is satisfied, just as Timenn mentioned.
As for the Chapel Hall, I'm not understanding the problem. It's an off-limits area, so they should be territorial about it. —Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 23:55, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
It's not off-limits if you have Knights of the Nine installed (as explained here) - then you get access to all chapel halls and undercrofts. What's puzzling me is, that I have access to all halls in Cyrodiil but this one. Oh, and the getting-up-at-night problem is solved. I tried to make a bug note on his page, just to get some kind of explanation on the page - I might have failed miserably, though. --Krusty 00:16, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
Well, I took off the "Continue if PC Near" flag in the ChapelExplore package and that seems to have fixed it for both of them (since they both use the same package). I have no idea why that flag would cause that effect, but it does. (Probably the same way the "Must Complete" flag makes Jeanne Frasoric constantly get out of bed when she sleeps.) —Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 01:20, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, that's odd. Without knowing what that flag originally does, I have another question: What about all the other chapel residents in Cyrodiil? When KotN is installed, they should loose some kind of territorial package, so you can enter the Chapel Halls and Undercrofts without them throwing you out, right? Is there any difference between another NPC like Gruiand Garrana (who spends a lot of time in the restricted areas) and Kantav Cheynoslin? And do you have any idea as to how we can write a decent bug description on Kantav's page? Thanks for the checking! Krusty 09:59, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
What the flag is supposed to do is to allow NPCs like merchants to continue to offer services if the PC is nearby even after the schedule would normally expire. Assuming that that is indeed what fixed their behaviour, it's clearly not having its intended effect in this case. As for the chapel residents, what's happening there is that you're being added to the NineDivines faction, which owns most of the chapels, so the chapel halls and undercrofts essentially become the same as the upper floors of the Mages or Fighters Guilds. Because of that, NPCs like Gruiand Garrana require no changes at all. The only NPCs changed by KotN are those that are used in the quest in some way - Silana and Kantav, for example, are used in the The Path of the Righteous quest.
